I so sorry these nob socks managed to get away with it, but like others I sort of expect it with the way the system is set up. I feel sorry for the dogs though because its not reallly there fault. My friend has an English Bull Terrier (bit like a shark with legs) and he adores his cat brother, and lets him jump all over him. Some people will say its a time bomb waiting to go off but if you saw them it you would understand there is nothing to worry about. Infact I love the fact they are so alike but so very different at the same time.

I'm sorry you didn't get the right result, but well done you for trying   A lot of people would have been too scared to go ahead with a court case.

Thanks to everyone for your kind words and support. Rosie is physically 100% now, but mentally obviously still scarred. She has no want to go outdoors and is quite happy to just sit on the window ledge. If I open a window slightly for whatever reason, she runs and hides.

I will not let her out again.

The dog's owners are from the dregs of society, the woman is a perpetual baby making machine and her boyfriend is a thug. I have stood up to them and not backed down despite the harrassment, damage to property and threats.

I agree that animal licensing should be law. There should be strict guidelines and all potential animal owners should be assessed.

Unfortunately, the Staff breed as become a 'status' symbol amongst young adults, but most of the people lack the knowledge and respect to care for these animals.

And these people must class themselves as animal lovers to some extent or they wouldn't have a dog!!!!  .

No, I don't think it's about loving animals.  I think it's a macho, power thing, you know ... "look how hard and big and strong I am cause I got a dog that will rip your throat out if I tell it to!  Oh I know!  I'll show just how hard I am by setting my dog on a defenceless cat!"

Pathetic.  Their mothers must be so proud.  Actually, their mothers probably don't actually care.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts for Minnie.  She is absolutely fine now physically but has gone from spending 23 hours a day outdoors to only being out for a couple of hours, which I'm sure is due to the attack.  When it happened I was mainly worried sick about Minnie but also felt sick to the pit of my stomach that anyone could think it was funny to set such a large, nasty dog on a cat.  They MUST have known that the dog could rip Minnie limb from limb and obviously didn't care.   No cat would have stood a chance if a dog was thrown on top of it, but Minnie had even less chance of escaping in time, being partially blind and deaf. My stomach still turns now if I think what would have happened if my neighbour hadn't intervened.  And these people must class themselves as animal lovers to some extent or they wouldn't have a dog!!!!  i do agree with behaviour assessments for potential owners, particularly those adopting big dogs with the potential to attack.

I am so sorry :(

I can't tell you how  :censored: incensed if feel right now, on both Rosie's and Minnie's counts.  What is it with some people?   :censored: :censored: :censored:

I agree, every pet owner should have a licence, and that licence should be earned.  Mind you, I think that people should have a baby licence too!  If that was the case, you wouldn't get these unbelievably cruel and irresponsible  :censored:'s being spawned in the first place  >:( >:( >:(

A judge should weigh the evidence and reach a conclusion on the basis of what the law says and how the evidence supports or fails to support a case. Sadly, they are human and can, in their inexperience make errors. In this case it was a pretty dreadful error as you had evidence and witnesses. The others had a lawyer, albeit an incompetent one. But that may have been where the problem lay. You presented evidence on the basis of what you felt might carry the most weight. Their's was argued on the matter of probability, whether or not you were a reliable witness. Clearly from your report, their behaviour should have alerted the judge to who was the more reliable witness, but it did not. Bad result and I do hope that this ends their harassment. If not, then keep records so you can follow up. Any chance of an appeal?? Sorry, silly question as these things cost money ...

Sorry for you honey

That's terrible! I've never had much faith in the judicial system, but that is just sickening. >:( I think your friend may have a point that the judge, in her inexperience, erred on the side of political correctness rather than common sense.
I was so annoyed with the police, as they made me feel as though i was just being a dog-hating cat owner and kept saying over and over that "dogs do chase cats - it happens."  They just didn't seem to understand that Minnie was NOT chased but deliberately attacked, right on my doorstep, while the dog owners stood on my land without my permission  >:( >:(
That is just shocking - I hate such vicious indifference and apathy. I have had, and trained, dogs. Properly. No dog of mine has ever chased a cat. They knew better, and I would have them under control at all times.
Yes, poorly-supervised, poorly-trained, irresponsibly owned dogs, not kept under control, do chase cats, but it doesn't just "happen", it is "allowed to happen", and that, to me, is just not acceptable as an excuse or as an explanation. >:( >:(
People like this give dogs, and responsible dog owners, a bad name. Bring back dog licences, I say - then you ARE directly responsible for the conduct of your animal.
Poor Rosie and Minnie - these sort of things shouldn't be allowed to happen. Dogs get behavioural assessments before being rehomed - I would suggest certain people get behavioural assessments before being allowed a pet - dog or otherwise!

I am just waiting for the dogs to attack another human - it came out in Court that the dog had already attacked it's owners!

The main thing is that Rosie is well and healthy - I just hope that now the Defendants have the result they wanted -  and they will leave my Son and I alone now.

That's dreadful.  Minnie was attacked by a dog back in August - she was sunning herself on my front step while I was at work, and my neighbour saw two lads with a big Staff carry the dog down my garden path and throw him at Minnie.  By the time she got outside to chase them off, the dog had Minnie in its jaws.  She (very bravely and stupidly) hit the dog with a walking stick and it dropped Minnie, who hurtled away.  She was missing for 3 days and I didn't know if she was badly injured or even dead.  I called the local police station, who put me through to the dog warden, who then put me back through to the police, who then transferred me to the dog warden again - basically no one seemed to know whose responsibility it was to pursue the owners.  In the end, after asking around locally, I was able to find out the dog's name and the street where the owners lived, and passed this onto the dog warden.  To my knowledge, they never chased it up, and my focus shifted to looking after Minnie, who turned back up shaken and with a nasty bite to the ear but amazingly unharmed otherwise.  We later heard that the owners had been jailed for something else, but there was a very scary interim where no one with cats would let them outside in case they also became prey to these  :censored:s.

Thanks everyone for all your support and kind words. I had a 'buddy' in Court with me and she made notes during the case. She has written what is below. Mark - the Judge was a young female - I don't think she had much experience - I think I would have faired better with an old codger!

I think it is very important to remember that the judge did not decide that the defendants were right or that you were wrong Den. She has decided that on a balance of probabilities, she could not agree that it was the defendant's dog who caused the injury. A lot in your case depended on personal statements; yours and the defendant's - there was no direct witnesses, beside you and your son. But you have conducted yourself brilliantly; you were calm, collected and dignified. You were well prepared - for a lay person, whilst we know what an almighty fluffybanana-up was caused by the defendant's solicitors (it was un-bloody-believable- the solicitors write a defence which basically destroyed defendant's case that they haven't got a dog! But sadly, the judge let it pass- as the case was not really about that).

Whilst I understand judge's hesitation which made her unable to find for den, i feel that it was a very disappointing outcome - achieved by defendant's shocking lies, bare-faced dishonesty, breathtaking and shameless porkies.

The judge opened by clarifying what she will deal with and what she will not. That meant that most of the witness statements, including huge chunks of Den's neighbour's statement were not considered. The judge then permitted documents which she did not see, which were submitted by the other party. She was very frustrated by the defendant's lack of preparedness, her solicitor's slackness- in my mind she has tried too hard to accommodate the defendant. Maybe she took one look at the gum-chewing, perpetually pregnant, hardly out of childhood herself, tracksuit clad , "innit" defendant and thought to herself: "disadvantaged person alert, better be extra nice, in case they torch my Lexus later on!"

OK. Bygones. We have gained new knowledge which may help in making the life for the defendant that little bit more difficult.

 "The law is an ass"

No doubt some senile dog-loving old codger made the judgement. I have no respect for the police or courts as the whole system is corrupt.

The law is supposed to protect the innocent  >:(

The only consolation is that gorgeous Rosie is well now

Ditto I do hope there is such a thing as Karma too, It makes me so mad that animals don't t times have the same laws as humans surely if someone came into your house and beat you up they would get prosecuted or even a custodial sentence.......At least justice would have been done for beautiful little Rosie

Take care

What was the actual outcome? I'm confused that they didn't get charged in any way, with all the veterinary evidence regarding Rosie you must have.

I'm so sorry. Don't worry, karma will bite them on the bum when the least expect it, that's usually the way life works.

Hi Guys

I was in Court earlier today, taking the people who's dogs attacked Rosie.

Sorry to say, I lost.

They were full of lies, brough all their young children into Court, sniggered all the way through when I was being asked something by the Judge and did the same when I answered the Judge.

My faith in the British Justice system has vanished completely.
