Ok, thanks a lot for that. I thought it must be an allergy. I'll take her to the vet at the beginning of next week (unfortunately the old vet, as I'm now moving on wednesday  >:( I hate letting agents!)

I hope it goes away soon, she looks really pathetic like that poor little baby. I had a very bad skin reaction myself very recently (to medication) so I'll understand that as a sympathy reaction from her  ;D

We've just taken Dinah to the vet something that looked very similar.  She was going bald round her eyes and near her whiskers.  Vet thought it was an allergy (not a flea allergy) and she's had a steroid injection which seems to have done the trick.

Looks like a vet trip is on order....

When I saw Sam begin to groom, I just said "Samantha....." in a warning tone. This eventually broke the habit. It helps that I'm able to spend lots of time with my cats and watch them, so I could catch her when she began washing. Also, I think her lips became so sore that it deterred her from grooming.

May be wise to take puss to the vet, just in case it's something else, like ringworm, as Lynn mentioned.

Well, that's the thing, I haven't noticed anything like that at all, and I've been watching her! She behaves completely normally.

How did you resolve Sam's problem? Did it go away on its own?

Sam's had a similar problem in the past. She has tended to overgroom. When she's done herself she starts on Polly. This has lead to her losing fur round her mouth and looking a bit sore there.

The loss of fur round Mia's eyes could be the result of over-washing her face with her paw. (When they use their paws as a flannel.) She could be over-rubbing that area.

Have you noticed whether she grooms a lot?

What a great idea - I'm sure a lot of cats get upset with dogs around in a vets. I know mine do. Also more specialist. I want one here!  ;D

Ah, well. I also find it very weird. I had planned to take her to the vet early next week anyway. I found one near to my new flat and it's a cat only clinic, it really looks great!

i'd be awfully suprised if it was a flea allergy..just doesnt fit the bill at all.  before seeing the pics i was wondering about ringworm altho she's not a likely candidate it wouldnt be impossible, however i dont think it looks "typical" of that.

allergy to something else ? possibley i dont know

Whatever it is , its quite unusual and most certainly a vet visit is required i think deborah just to add to your hassles at the moment.

(she's still beautiful though  :Luv:)

Is she up todate with flea treatment? Which brand do you use?
Her lip looks like she overgrooming, could be stress from you going away?

Its odd that its under her eye tho.   :-:

Ok, I got pictures, they're really really crap though, she wanted to play. I err had to hold her on the third one, I'm sorry...

So you can see the things, whatever they are, under her eye and under her nose. Any ideas?

ok, now the digital camera is messing up. I'm recharging the battery, I hope that what it is.  >:(

I got the fright of my life when i came in: I came in through the back door, I called Mia, and normally she comes jumping and meowing, but she didn't, and then I saw that the front door was open!! I had just starting having a heart attack when she came bouncing in through the door.

What happened is that last night I came in through the front door with my big bag, and we forgot to lock it again, and it was windy this morning....

Mia's fine (and nothing was stolen either or anything like that)

Yes it's on her top lip, up to the nose. She also got a tiny bit of the same just below her right eye and on her nose. Maybe it's some kind of skin disease/allergy?

Pictures as soon as the damn thing is working!

heh, I know it's weird.

I'm going home now, so I'll try to post a pic as soon as possible (if I can manage to take a pic of the little monkey. I think she sleeps in the afternoon so it should be ok  :shify:)

The hair is gone, the area is entirely black now.

Hiya all,

I have noticed that Mia seemed to have lost all the hair on her top lip. It is very noticeable because the hair there was white/light brownish and her skin is black. It started a couple of weeks ago with just a small spot but while I was in France it seems to have spread. Now it's a bit under an inch across, from her mouth to her nose. It doesn't appear anywhere else, is not sore (she lets me touch it no problem) and she doesn't scratch/clean that bit. I'll take her to the vet as early as I can next week (I should be moving to my new flat on monday - fingers crossed).

Have you ever come across that? Should I be worried? I'll try to take a picture later on today.

Thanks,

Déborah xx
