Do try and make sure not to force her outside btw, some cats just don't like the outdoors and making her go out will do more harm than good (not saying that you would force her though!). Let her take things at her own pace is what I'm trying to say, albeit rather poorly!

Some cats are just scaredy cats. My two are, we've had them from kittens and they have always been totally spoilt. So it's nothing to do with the way they are treated. They also don't want to go outside, Buffy goes outside with me sometimes and sits on the step but Xander won't come out of the door. They also hide when we have visitors. Buffy actually gets under the duvet. My parents are coming to look after them in a couple of days while we go on holiday and I'm worrying that they will be ok. Hope they don't try to hide all week.

Maybe a more confident cat would help yours as I do think my two make each other worse. One panics and runs and the other just follows. Hopefully they would be a calming influence.

It won't be for ages yet, she is a very fat girl....8kilos! So we want to concentrate on getting her to slim down first. And we want to buy a house as we are renting at the moment. When we buy we can put in a cat flap so it won't be for a long time I just like planning ahead  :naughty:

Thanks for your advice everyone  :briggin:

I would just hang fire on getting another cat just yet - older cats often take a lot longer to settle in and her being a scaredy cat means she will probably take just that little bit longer!

Maybe just leave it a few more months and then go for a slightly younger cat (4-6) that will accept her dominance and isn't overly boisterous.

HTH   :)

She is definitely not an adventurer! I was terrified when we first went to let her out that she would run away and never come back, I couldn't have been more wrong!
She is getting better and I guess we haven't had her that long. I'm a first time cat owner and already want more cats!  :) we shall see........ 8)

Not all cats are big brave adventures.  I have a brother and sister 13 yr olds .. Zephyr (male) has always been up for an asventure, off exploring and generally getting in trouble and giving me sleepless nights and constant worry.  His sister , Foxy, has never been further than the bottom of my very small garden.  She hates being outside on her own and will cry the second the backdoor is closed.  They have both been brought up ecatly the same but she is just an "at home girl" with mild agoraphobia

I would much rather have a kitty that has no desire to go out and get in trouble than King of the Jungle  ;)  Give her plenty of toys and encounrage her to become queen of the castle ... it won't take long  ;)
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

Scaredy cat!

Hi

I adopted my cat about 5 months ago now, she is 7 years old and doesn't seem to have seen much of the world. She hides upstairs under the bed whenever anyone but me and my partner are in the house and doesn't really like going outside, she will wander around for five minutes or so if I'm out there but then soon wants to come back in. But otherwise if all is quiet and within her normal routine she is a very happy girl :)

I would like to get another rescue cat at some point and was wondering if this may help her confidence? I have no idea how she would react to another cat and the last thing I want to do is set her back again; but I also don't want to get a cat and have to return it if it doesn't work out.

Has anyone had any experience with this that could give me advice?
 :thanks:
