To you all a very big THANK YOU.

I, myself do not normally read these posts but from now on I will and I will also post because it is very comforting reading everyones kind words.

We have a very busy household, we still have 7 cats and 4 young children, but somehow an era has now passed and the house isn't the same without our little cat.

We all miss you Bonnie R.I.P

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. She sounds like a wonderful little lady and a true friend to you. I'm glad you had the strength to give her that last great gift and walk a little way along the path to the bridge with her.

RIP Bonnie safe and sound at the Bridge by now xx

The Greatest Gift

I always knew this time would come,
From the very instant our eyes first met.
How I loved you then! How I love you now!
I made a promise then, and I will keep that promise now...
You will not suffer from a pain that will not heal;
You will not know the loss of a life remembered, now gone.

It is for me alone to make this decision,
The price for the bright joy and pure laughter
You brought me during the time we shared.
I am the only one who can decide when it is time.
When my hope dies, and my fear rides high,
Just when I need you most, I must let you go.

It is for you alone to tell me when you are ready
For without your guidance, I will not know
When to lay my grief, my guilt, my anger
My sorrow and my selfish heart aside
And give you this last gift, this greatest gift.
Your eyes will speak to mine, and I will know.

The pain of this moment is excruciating.
Tears stream down my face in a river of sorrow.
And my heart drowns in a pool of grief.
For you have spoken and I have listened,
And unlike other decisions I have made
This one brings no relief...no comfort...no peace.

For if there´s one thing you´ve taught me,
If there´s only one thing I´ve learned...
Unconditional love has a condition after all,
I must be willing to let you go, when you speak to me
I must be willing to help you go, if you cannot go alone.
And I must accept my pain so you can be free of yours.

Go easily now, go quickly now,
Do not linger here, it is time for you to leave.
Go find your strength, go find your youth.
Go find the ones who've gone before you.
You are free to leave me now, free to let your spirit soar
Rest easy now, your pain will soon be gone.

I pray I will find comfort in my memories...
In the dark and lonely days ahead.
I cannot say I will not miss you, I cannot say I will not cry.
For only my tears can heal my broken heart.
But, I promise you this; as long as I live,
You will live, alive in my mind, forever in my heart.

So I give you this last gift, all I have left to give,
And this will be my greatest gift...sending you away.
It is the measure of my unconditional love...
For only the greatest love can say,
"Good-bye, go find the bridge, we'll meet again,
Loving you has been the greatest gift of all."

Forever and Always... Until Rainbow bridge....

The story of Bonnie started in 1996.

A friend of my in-laws witnessed a little cat being run over twice, she was the third car and stopped to find the cat. She found her under a bush badly hurt so she took her straight to her vets. The vet didn't think she would make it through the night but agreed to operate on her if she did. She made it through the night with a broken jaw hanging off and a badly broken leg.

The next day her jaw was wired and her broken leg was pinned. She also had 4 broken teeth removed.

The vets put her at no more than 2 years old and thought she had been straying for some time as she was quite thin. They tried for a couple of weeks to locate owners but no one came forward.

This is where I was brought onboard. The family friend knew we had and liked cats so she asked me if I would give her a home when she was ready to be homed. Of course I said yes. I was in weekly contact with the rescue. The time came for her leg to come out of plaster then she could come home. However, her leg had not healed, it was broken in 8 places so they had no choice but to amputate it.

I collected Bonnie 1 week later, her jaw was still wired but she was doing great with only 3 legs.

She has been a complete joy to have, she would always 'talk' to me when I entered a room and always get up (even with 3 legs) to come to see me. She got on well with all our other cats and even new additions she welcomed. Even when the children came along she would always let them stroke her.

Sadly, a couple of months ago she started to loose weight and was sneezing.

Off we went to the vets, blood test was done and she had thyroid problems. The sneezing the vet said was either an infection or nasal cancer. If it was an infection then it would clear up with the steroid and antibiotic jabs, if nasal cancer then sadly nothing could be done for such an old cat. She didn't even advise to have an xray because of Bonnies age and the risk going under.

We went back 3 weeks later to check her blood again, it still wasn't right so the dozage was increased. The sneezing and discharge hadn't stopped so it was agreed to make her as comfortable as possible for the time she had left.

She had another set of jabs which seemed to last for 4 weeks before she started to deteroiate. We then had another set 2 weeks ago and the last set on Thursday last week.

When I took her last week the vet did say these would not last as long because her illness was rapidly deteroiating.

We went to the vets for the last time this morning and the vet said he could give her one last set of jabs to take us over the weekend but probably by Monday/Tuesday that would be it and she would need to be pts as it would be the kindest thing for her.

I made the decision with tears streaming down my face that the best thing for Bonnie would be to go to Rainbow Bridge.

I will really miss my beautiful 3 legged Bonnie. She was all black, which is my favourite. I know it was the best and kindest thing to do but I am heartbroken.

Thank you for reading this.

Julie
