All food should have a country of origin on it, although companies apparently find it easy to circumnavigate this.

If countries are in EU, presumably there is free trade between each as in most others things??

However if Zooplus are selling things with the wrong description, then this should be contravening the sales description act.

I think it was established on another thread (also about zooplus "foreign" food) that they are allowed to sell foreign food made for foreign markets to the UK and without any special labelling.

I can't remember which thread it was though but think Mark may have started it...

Did you ask Zooplus what their stance on it was? I'm genuinely interested.

if you buy the sweedish or german food it is clear what you are buying.

the problem i have is when they sell german applaws to a uk market - it should be clearly marked.

Many companies make different products for different markets. My lot get Swedish and German food from Zooplus, their pet food standards are actually much higher than UK regulations.

I would have been interested to know the ingredients listings on those tins your parents originally had, texture has little to do with quality.

We also buy food made for other markets, ever been to Lidl or Aldi?

Applaws Kitten Food Warning

My parents recently got a kitten and asked my where i bought my cat food.
I usually buy from zooplus as its cheap and have never had a problem.

So they bought some applaws kitten food.

When they opened the tin it was like a mousse ! I had bought them some tins for them from petsathome to get them started, so they knew it should look like shredded chicken.

At first they thought they may have had a bad batch and phoned zooplus who asked them to email photos.

My parents aren't technical so waited for me to pop round and help them.

They then noticed the label said kitten chicken and NOT kitten chicken breast. They phoned Applaws direct. Applaws said it sounded like counterfeit ! and sent a courier round to collect the tins.

Today my parents spoke to Applaws to be told applaws make several varieties for different countries and that they had the one they had should not be sold in the UK.
Applaws are going to send my parents replacement tins so they don't loose out.

zooplus website does say kitten chicken breast.

Im posting this to let everyone know because if zooplus do this for Applaws, what other products do they do it to ?

Does anyone know if they have broken the law and if so who should they be reported to, as they are a German company ?

At least we know what happens to the rest of the chicken if Applaws only sell the chicken breast in the UK.
