I could just put £50 a month in a savings account, but I'm worried in case something happens before a decent amount is built up. Toby is FIV+ and  has proved to be expensive vet bill wise - which is fine, its what I expected - and I want to make sure I can always pay the bill at short notice! So, I am considering pet insurance.

You might want to consider still putting an amount aside each month just in case something comes up that your insurer does conside FIV related. If you havn't managed to build up a large enough sum and something does go wrong, I'm sure any decent vet would let you pay the balance off in monthly installments. Not ideal I know, but chances are the situation won't arise anyway.

I agree with MM that you need a vet who is sensible and doesnt blame everything on FIV and if you have Axa are ceratinly good  ;D

If you have a good vet who wont blame every illness on his fiv then its worth insuring, the companies will take your vets opinion as to whether its related or not

Same as most to be honest.  Can't claim within first 14 days of signing up, excess is now £75 I think (double check), and generaly they pay very quickly.

I had no complaints whatsoever  :)

Oh, that certainly sounds promising. What are their terms and conditions like?

Defiitely insure

I had Max insured with Axa, and everything was paid for relating to his kidney and thryoid conditions, as the vet considered them age related as opposed to being due to his FIV.

pet insurance for FIV kitty?

I've been trying to sort out my finances recently and have effectively paid for and canceled my credit cards, but my credit rating is shot at the moment and therefore I'm not likely to get any more credit cards (other than the really expensive ones!) for some time to come. So, I need an alternative 'fund' for vet bills.

I've looked into it before and I can get it, but of course 'FIV-related conditions' will not be covered. I've always shied away from insurance before because of this, on the premise that the insurers will claim everything is 'FIV related'. I dont know this for sure of course, but its a worry.

What are peoples thoughts on this? Is it worth getting out insurance for the ginger terror or not? Any recommendations?
