When I first got Mogs from the rescue she had no idea that when she'd had enough of being fussed she could walk away from me and I would let her. Instead she let me know she'd had enough by hitting me and wrapping her mouth around my hand. She never actually closed her mouth fully to bite me or have her claws out. She did relax eventually and now is quite happy to be stroked but still doesnt do picking up and knee sitting.
I hope Meeko is ok

I have a Meeko too and he's a biter! Mostly when you touch his belly or he's just had enough of petting. My Belle also hates being picked up, always had, he squeals as if you're really hurting him although I know I'm not, he just doesn't like to be lifted.

I hope things get sorted out with your Meeko

A while ago he went missing for 24 hours and we were worried sick, we searched until it was pitch black and no sign of him, when he did come back he was very clingy for a few days and im wondering if he got shut in somewhere and it knocked his confidence? We are going to try and handle him as if he was a kitten again, nice and gentle with no sudden movements, it doesnt matter how long it takes he is a huge part of our family and his happiness is priority  :)

I was wondering if part of his body might be hurting him but if you've had him to the vet that can't be it.

My last cat and my latest one don't like being picked up and scream and struggle when I do. Bonnie lays all over me and sleeps next to me in bed but will not let me pick her up.

Maybe try giving him a treat and then trying to give him a little stroke always put your hand in front of him face down to let him smell you first and then he will know it's you - could be he's been hit by someone maybe?

Good luck

Mary

Thanks for replying, we have had Meeko since 8 weeks old and we took him to the vet for a thorough check over recently as he was getting over a virus and thankfully all is ok now...no matter what his behavior he is still my little monkey hehe

Hi,

Have you had Meeko long?  and has he always been like that? if he has suddenly changed then there could be something wrong healthwise but some cats just are less affectionate unfortunately.  I usually find that if they are like that it is sometimes better to let them approach you or as soon as they have had enough to let them be.  Sometimes cats like that can turn around, our Schui used to lash out but in time he turned into a real cuddle puss.

Meeko's behaviour

Hi everyone

Just wondered if anyone elses cat behaves like Meeko.

He doesn't really like being stroked and is very bitey, ie. when you stroke him he'll just turn round and bite you and everytime you try and pick him up he scrtahces and bites us.

Has anyone overcome behaviour like this with their cat?
