Been a day since the injection and this one is definetly working ... though how do you tell a kitten to 'rest' ... she's currently running around the house chasing one of her older brothers!!!

The vet could feel swelling today - at the hock part of the rear leg, right where a long tenden is - and she could feel that it was swollen (so at least we know it's a sprain)

The vet gave her another anti-inflamatory injection (which apparently has part pain killer in it - I didint know that), we've got to keep her in for the next few days as 'rest' is the best thing to heal it (she is a kitten!!!  ) and if in 3 days time she's still hobbling but looks much better we just need to let the vets know, if she's still hobbling and looking like it's not getting better she said we need to ring up for a course of anti-inflamatory tablets to be taken over 7-10 days and see how that works out (anyone used these tablets before?).

She did recommend that to help we could give her Omega 3 or Omega 3 & 6 as that will help (so I think we'll be off to the health food shop if Tescos dont sell it - if anyone does know of a supermarket that does I would appreciate knowing, otherwise it's a trip into the city!) The vet said we need to get the ones that DONT have the extra vitamins in it.

Anyway - shes having her tea now, and hopefully have a nice long wash and a snooze

Well we're going back this afternoon to the vet. The nurse on the phone said that the injection she had on Saturday would had worn off now, so if theres still some inflamation that will be why she's still hobbling - so I think she's going to have a pain killing injection (they did say tablets - but I'd rather know it's in her system). HOpefully that will help her use her back leg properly again.

I would think possible yes but just to put your own mind at rest give the vet a ring

It's the third day since Molly probably sprained her rear leg - and she's still hobbling - wondered if anyone can advise if this is normal?

I know we will give the vet a call in the morning if she's still hobbling to see what they say also - it mght be the case she needs a pain killing injection

Does sound like a possible sprain if she's not cut it, having said that I have been stung with little swelling.  I would think it may take a while for her to stop limping if she is putting more weight on the other leg, I would keep her safe too xx

Just wondered how long it should be before she's using her leg as normal?

With our other cat, when he's sprained his leg and had the injection he's usually back ot normal 24hrs later - though mollly is limping, though it seems more pronounced now. Could that be a good sign in that she's trying to use her leg and hobbling whilst doing so, rather than walking and limping as she's still hurting?

I dont think it was a bee sting, as her leg hasnt swollen up at all, so can only think it was a very bad sprain.

I think we'll be keeping her inside as it is possible she could get out of the garden and am worried she's not be able to climb/jump back over a 6ft fence

Tiggy - I know the vet said to keep an eye out for a 'fat leg' that would prove she'd been stung - no sign of any swelling as yet.

Poor Molly, give her a gentle from me and the boys.  Hope she's racing around on it in no time 

I would have thought a sprain was more likely than a sting on the back foot, Riley was stung 7 times last year and always on the front paw where he's gone to catch or swat the bee/wasp.  It also swelled up to triple it's normal size although I'm not sure if this is 'normal' - maybe he is superallergic?

She woke up a little while ago, and is still hobbling, but at least she's using it.

Our kitten, Molly, came in after being out in the garden this morning, but she was 'hopping' and holding her rear right leg in the air, and not wanting to put any weight on it.

We know from experience of one of our other cats that they can sprain their legs/paws as Jasper has come in before doing this (we have always taken him to the vet to get an anti-imflammatory injection to help anyway) but the thing that worried my husband and I was that when she was sitting - her right rear legs was at an awful angle, not how it should be.

Thankfully the vet had an appointment and we got her down there. The vet said it's not broken (phew!), but he thinks she's either sprained it or she's had a bee sting (which is quite possible!). He also said as she's young (9 months) it may well be the frist time she's ever sprained her paw, and was just not sure or aware what to do with it, and may had been putting it at this odd angle as it was more comfortable for her.

Anyway - she's back home, having a snooze under the bed, with 2 very relieved parents!
