Thanks Rosella, I was sure that was the case  It was the same with M&S as they were telling me I had to take out a new policy for the sex changing Lukey and I argued that I'd gone through the 14 day period and what would happen if he had an accident while I was waiting for the 2nd 14 days to pass, they said accidents/injury were immediate cover in any case.

Certainly Axa cover starts straight away for accidents.  This is taken from an email I had from them in response to me asking if Polydactyl puds are treated in any differently (I know I'm a crazy mum)....

"I can confirm that the extra toe will not cause any problems in respect of your cover.  It will be treated the same as any other accidents or illnesses, so as long as there is no illness relating the the extra toe before the policy starts then any illness i.e infection that occurs in the future will be covered, accidents on the other hand are covered from the day your policy starts."

Good news!!! The little monkey is complety fine! The vet asked me to keep him in is carrier so he didn't hurt himself more and when I let him out to use his tray, he was jumping about like a madman and signs of limping completly gone  Sadly for Basil it doesn't mean he gets out of a visit to the vet though, he gets his kitty jabs today 

Looking after Henry(we only had him 10 days before he got ill and tested postive for CRF) who got sick so quickly taught me a lot but esp that insurance isn't something I wanted to procastinate over. Also watching Basil throw himself about the room I kinda guessed he would most likely be the one to hurt himself so though better safe than sorry.

You cant claim at all in the first 14 days on most insurances when they are new.

I hope Basil is fine tomorrow and you are definately a good meowmy, to look after them with insurance and also contacting the vets so quick

Hope it's nothing serious  I'm sure my insurance only excluded pre existing conditions/illness in the first 14 days, so new accidents/injuries would still be covered.  I know he'd get care regardless but worth checking to put your mind at rest

My poor little newbie has done something to his paw, just got off the phone to the vet who said it was not an emergency but to keep him confined so he doesn't do more damage and to go in first thing tomorrow. There doesn't seem to be any blood so I don't think he has cut it and vet says he might have staved it and will probably be fine tomorrow.

I can't help but worry about the poor wee man though, I'd really like to know what he has done to it so I make sure it doesn't happen again. Just glad I insured him the minute we brought him home, when I watched him dashing about I knew he was going to do himself an injury but OH said I was stressing too much 

It's also very deja vuish, Henry got ill before his 14 days insurance was up so I'm hoping it's not a bad sign, also makes me feel like a really bad cat mummy that 2 cats have been taken into the vets within a couple of weeks of living me with me!
