We've both got Fucithalmic eye drops, Milo still seems to be squinting so I'm keeping an eye on him (excuse the pun) and I'm back at the doctors tonight too!

Hope Milo's eye is soon sorted. Try not to worry too much. Both my Maddie and Dragan had chlamydia - I almost lost Maddie but both recovered and never had a recurrence of problems with their eyes. Big hug to Milo and one for you too

Having just been thru this with one of my rescues, one eye infected means that it is just probably conjunctivitis, both eyes mean that there MAY be an underlying viral infection. In the case of my rescue lad he had both eyes infected and it was just bad luck that both eyes were that bad. This was due in part to his being homeless during a cold snap and trying to survive. He was knackered poor thing and just totally exhausted which meant that his defenses were low. He has know been give a clean bill of health and is ready fo rehoming after 10 days of antibiotics, 8 days of cream, blood tests and plenty of love and good food.

However the vet did bear in mind that 2 eyes mean the possibility of a viral infection and this was eliminated as a routine precaution.

Having just read some articles on feline Herpes & Chlamydia I really don't think this is what Milo has, he is completely fine in himself and is showing no cold symptoms.

Milo has an eye infection, vet agree he is likely to have caught it from me as I'm still suffering with one, and he does lick my face most mornings to wake me up (this is also when my eyes are at their worst)

Alice checked for scratches and there wasn't any but the eye is inflamed, we've got fucithalmic (same as me). This is what we also had for Milo when he had the same thing back at the beginning of the year.

Jess is showing no signs of it, despite giving Milo a head lick when we got home.

I'm quite sure that he has a simple unforunate eye infection, and scare mongering isn't really helping the situation.

I really hope so Gillian. I am in the same boat to some extent and praying that my new kitten is not viral but only time will tell. I was just pointing out the possibility.

Totally agree. Skye had a runny eye about a year and a half ago. Vet gave me drops and it cleared up quite quickly. Never had any problem since (touch wood). The other two didn't catch it either.

Herpes and Chlamydia are 2 seperate conditions, one winky eye is much more likely a scratch during play has caused infection. So to say its fairly certain they are now infected for life is OTT.

That is simply not true, Herpes-clamhydia is one of the main feline virusus.

It depends - if its simply bacterial conjunctivitis, it will eventually clear up, although it can be really persistent - if its due to something like chlamydia it may recur, but it doesnt always.

Sadly due to the lower standards of vetinary practice in the UK it is common for vets not to tell people the truth; in fact many of them are unable properly to diagnose or prescribe in the first place.

It must be fairly certain that both your cats have now been infected for life and that any cats who come into close proximity of them will also get the virus.

But you will get a good deal of advice from others on the forum who are in the same position on looking after them long term.

I've been struggling with Zeta's conjuctivitis for a while now, she has a course of antibiotics and eye drops, it clears up, then it returns, so we start all over again!

I've had this persistently for 2-3 weeks, I've been really careful with the cats trying not to spread infection.

He keeps licking my eyes in the morning to wake me up and I susect that may have been where he caught it from.

But Saturday Milo had a gunky eye (more so than normal sleep) and was squinting a lot. Yesterday it seemed a bit worse, so we're off to the vets tonight.
