Yep, Egypt still has street cats which is where pretty much all domestic cats originated.

The first domesticated cats were egyption, and most people tend to think that all our comesticatd cats started out there, but thanks to bredding etc colours were developed . There's quite a lot of information on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cats) and stuff, trust me, you could spnd hours reading up, lol.
