Stroke him firmly along the back. If you can feel the ridges of his spine very prominently, then he's underweight. But if there's a good covering over his spine, he's fine.

That's how I check my cats.

He has an 'oriental' body line, so will always looks slender and svelte (lucky him), he looks in peak condition to me!! ;D

He looks fine to me too.  It's up to you really.  He will be fine staying on kitten food for a while longer if you want, but he will also do fine on adult food.  I switched Mosi from kitten to adult food at about 7 months (and he's a slow maturing breed).

Shes beautiful but she doesnt look underweight there, she might be small framed but not underweight by any means IMO :Luv2: :Luv2:

Gwen, you're going to give the poor boy a complex.
That is the handsome, super masculine Milo  :Luv2:  I also think he just looks small framed, Lucas is much smaller than Riley too but not underweight.  The kitten food I was feeding said for up to 12 months so I think whatever you choose he's not going to come to any harm.  I'd still stick with the kitten food for a bit longer if I were in your shoes.

ooops I am so sorry Milo, please forgive me :-[

Its really hard to tell to be honest, so I've attached a pic   ;)

We were concerned at how small he is so when he was neutered in April we asked them to check him over, and the vet said we just have a really small slinky adult cat, (his a real mincer when he walks). Sometimes I think he looks smaller as Jess is so big, we have real extremes.

We switched at 7 months with the recommendation of the vet when we got our boy neutered.  He was already a pretty hefty big boy at the time.  How is the build of Milo, is he well built and the physique balanced, even if he is smaller framed?  Then he should be okay with adult food, maybe he is naturally of smaller size, but he might need the kitten food a bit longer if he is really scrawny.

I switched at just before 6 months. When they get neutered they really don't need the extra calories from kitten food.

lay me down, let me go, feeling heavy the ground is cold,
lay me down take it slow I'm ready to stumble, sing & then swing low

I switched the boys over at around 8 - 9 months, if Milo is still on the small side I would be tempted to stick with the kitten food as it has more calories.

Milo is almost 9 months, his a tiny cat, but still on Kitten food.

Jess was on kitten food till he was a year, but I don't know whether to introduce Milo to it earlier?
