Well done for being this babe's slave.....I have an ex feral and he would do a runner upstairs if there was too much moving around going on! Now that peeps understand the situation fully what you are doing for him is suitable indeed! 

Dont know if he is still intact? If he is not then it will make him accept his situation more readily! Good Luck with the move!

He will need to be kept in the new house for about 4-6 weeks to get used to his new home and if he isnt neutered then he really needs to be.

When he is confined he also needs playing with and to be loved.

Sorry don't mean to be judgemental  .  You are obviously doing your best for Tackle and TBH, can't see much difference between the outhouse asdescribed and a cat pen at this time of year.

Have you planned for what is going to happen when he moves into your new home?  He will certainly need more than most cats to stay in for some time if he is semi feral.  We had a cat who came to us from RSPCA and used to throw himself at the window in an effort to get out. We let him out far too early as he was so distressed and kept our fingers crossed that he would come back. Thankfully he did but it could easily have worked out very differently.

He is semi ferral, we move house on saturday if I let him out he will be homeless as he goes off for weeks on end, I need to keep him in the house
until we move 50 miles away


he was in a large lounge 24ft long but as we rent he has already ruined the carpets and I cannot have him in there any longer, he will be in an out house that is cool, has tiled floor, windows and an air flow, he has a cat litter tray,water, food, bed, he will be allowed into the house for some time each day to stretch his legs. i cannot do any more I have tried to rehome him, I have tried to get friends to help this is the best I can offer without having an irate landlord and our deposit taken.

Its not perfect but I think its better than him being left here on his own without an owner, do you not agree?

I don't understand how you can consider keeping your cat in a tiled room 6ft X ?ft for the next 6 days. Am I missing something? How long do you intend to let him out of his 6ft x ?ft room each day? Perhaps you are just thinking of putting him in this room overnight?

We are moving home saturday hence keeping him in, if we dont he can go off for weeks at a time. When I say let him out I mean letting him in the rest of the house not outside. thanks

Thats ok, don't worry about repeating, not everyone will have read every post so might not have caught up with all threads.

I understood what you meant about letting him out in the rest of the house, just wasnt sure about the reason for confining, but I see about the house move and he's a bit of a wanderer! I guess as long as he does have 'time out' of confinment and that its only temporary, it should be ok, but obviously you'll need to make sure he has his litter tray, food and water etc in his room, plus some toys to keep him amused (perhaps one of those food treat balls) and scratch post - and keep any eye on him to make sure he's not going 'stir crazy' LOL! I cant have tackle in the lounge any longer, hes ruined the carpets and made a complete mess so the only thing I can think of is having him in the outhouse at the back of the kitchen, its about 6 fot long and not quite as wide, but has a tiled floor and no where for him to drag up the carpets, Is this too small? its until saturday am and I will let him out daily for a wander around the house.

Not quite sure what you mean - is this a temporary measure for some reason? as you say its until Saturday, but then you say you will let him out daily. Is he scratching the carpets? If so, has he got some scratching posts? Could do with bit more detail, ta!
