I also read an article that said guilt-tripping people into not buying these things would be catastrophic for the workers as although they earn very little, it is their only income so by taking away the business, they would be out of a job and starving. It said they had to educate or force manufacturers and buyers into paying better prices for the goos so they could pay a higher wage. I think it is a really complicated subject. I know companies like Tesco have a lot to answer for as they dictate prices.

oh I know but I think the programme JS was talking about was one of those that was meant to make us feel guilty, I read an article in the times a couple of years ago in a similar vein, criticsing people who got clothes in tesco because it fuelled the sweat shops the person then went on to say she couldn't understand how you could buy clothes at the same time as bread when there was couture in the world - different planet clearly

The thing is, maybe Primark buy cheap and sell cheap but don't forget the big brands who buy cheap and sell dear - if anything it is worse as they have a lot of profit they could give back to the workers.

I
PS - I should have said not to forget to take some Sainsbury's bags for life to save being seen with a Lidl carrier  :evillaugh:

Are you off again, Mark? ;)

I bought one of those throws too, in burgundy. I put it on the end of my bed at Christmas for the cats.....yep, festive coloured bedding. I'm that into Christmas!

Regarding Primark, there was meant to be a programme on C4 this week called The Devil wears Primark, but it got taken off the air. :-:

I do believe a few years ago there was a couple named their daughter Ikea!

Dawn - don't know where you live but the one in Bradford and the one in the White Rose Centre in Leeds are great - are you sure you're not thinking of TK Max?  That gets on my nerves, I don't have the patience to rummage around no matter how cheap stuff might be.

Leigh & Mark - why is it that when you 2 get together on a post it all goes daft??  Carry on the good work boys.

Attached pics of my darling Bonnie on my settee with the blankets from Primark - I caught her in the act as you can see.

The one in the bottom pic said he will get the Umbro shirt when next week's giro arrives  :evillaugh:

You changed the pic  :-[

Wasn't that girl that was disqualified from x factor or one of those shows, seen making a nuisance of herself in Hackney Primark? (The one I use to be a regular in, along with Les McKeown  :evillaugh: )

My mum tells me the 99p shops are selling 1L cans of Dulux Heritage paint - I hope they haven't discontinued it  :scared:

Hiya,

The boys are very good they have never scratched the settee however they do jump up onto that arm and Frankie uses it as a launch pad for his "special" safe place under the shelving unit when Alfie is chasing him and he wants to get way from the world for a while so his claws dig into it and it's getting a little "scuffed".

A friend of mine at work was talking about naming children after shops like "Laura"/"Ashley", "Marks"/"Spencer" I said jokingly that if I had kids they would have to be named after my favourite shops "Wilkinsons", "The 99p shop" and "Primark" ;D ;D ;D

Yes Dawn, Primark is a real "chav-jungle-fest" here but their prices are very good and generally their quality is pretty good.

Fairly typical Primark shoppers :

Cheers

I got 2 of those blankets from Primark in beige - BUT when I put them over the arms they slid off, with a lot of help from Bonnie of course and she still scratched the settee arms - will send pics as evidence when I get home this evening.

My friend bought a new bedroom carpet and as it was the same colour as my settee she suggested putting some of the spare bits on the arms - worked out well - looks ok without the blanket over it but if I do put the blanket over it, it doesn't slip when she jumps up because of the carpet.

That's the most "animated" I've ever seen her. Normally she just sits and holds CDs as that's her raison d'etre. She was given to me by a friend for my mum in her nursing home but she didn't have the room for another "kitsch" item so I adopted it  ;D

Did you tell them?

They bash things through the checkout so quickly it's hard to keep track. That is one thing with Lidl. You have to be organised as they really rush you. I sometimes just throw it in the trolley and pack afterwards  :evillaugh:

PS - I should have said not to forget to take some Sainsbury's bags for life to save being seen with a Lidl carrier  :evillaugh:

One thing I am getting excited about is I went to Canterbury last week and there are huge posters saying "Everyone deserves good food" - yes.... Waitrose  ;D
I'm sure they wouldn't advertise here to get people to go to a shop 20 miles away? - I googled but can't find any info. I am really hoping they open one  :)

I wonder if I can persuade OH to go to Margate at the weekend if it's nice. It's only 1/2 hour in the car but OH won't go to places like that unless it's sunny. I don't have a problem with Primark and Peacocks as I have had some real bargains from them. I still have a favourite red t-shirt that I bought in Primark about 6 years ago for £1 and it irons up perfectly yet I bought some M&S "premium" ones for about £10 each last year and they went out of shape after one wash. OH has a female colleague who is a real snob on a 6 figure salary who was delayed in London at the weekend. She texted saying she got a new outfit including underwear and a swimsuit and it only came to £22 in there  :evillaugh:

Thanks Leigh - If we don't go at the weekend I will take up your kind offer. At that price, I would mind getting a few as spares for when visitors come round  :evillaugh:

Good morning folks,

Yes Mark it is a C H O C O L A T E coloured ribbed throw, I have a very large red throw over the settee and red and terracotta coloured cusion covers so brown is a good choice of colour IMO. I paid the princely sum of £2.00 at Primark for it and it comes with a large colour matching ribbon tied in a bow which the boys like playing with so even better value. If you haven't got a Primark nearby I could get one for you and pop it in the post it's not very heavy so shouldn't be too expensive to send. The throw is big enough to have folded double to give extra thickness and protection.

Very true about the cat hair Sam, Alfie did his very best to help it blend in with all my other "fluffy" soft furnishings. It was funny he jumped up onto the arm of the settee and the look on his face was priceless sort of "Whoooooooooooooooooooooow this is nice" and then he flopped down and had a snooze  ;D when he woke up it looked like the aftermath of a sheep-shearing contest. His hairstyle is pretty trendy isn't it Gill, it cost me an absolute fortune as he will only go to the trendiest hairdressers in Sloan Square  ;D

Cheers

Leigh

I am looking for one to complement a dark red sofa funnily enough (rather than trying to get one to match)

Where did you get it?  :shify:
