Dont really think anyone should be expected to take back after 12 years. In the event things don`t work out in a new home I insist the cat is returned to me but must be honest if peeps wanted to return in 12 years time I just wont be around 
The CP cat I had a run in over had been rehomed 2 weeks when request was made to return,refusal meant cat was dumped.

Fingers crossed for them - we do take cats back, and last year we looked after one for 5 weeks while her owner was in hospital to prevent her having to give her up (there was a chance she wouldnt recover, in which case we would have found her a new home), but I have taken in a cat that was homed by our local CP 12 years previously, they stated they dont have a duty to take them back after that length of time, and that they would struggle to home a cat of that age - she was only here for 8 weeks and 4 days, I have had younger cats here longer than that.

If you adopt from FoalFarm the cat always remains the property of FoalFarm, They are chipped to Foal and that cant be changed. You are not allowed to rehome them, give them away or PTS

I only have a rehoming officer email address from when I sent Battersea some feedback on Lexy, to let them know how she's got on. I will PM that to you. I am also going to look through Lexy's adoption paperwork to see what they say about having to rehome any of their adoptees.

I have to say that if the animal is due to be spayed in two weeks then the animal should be spayed before homing - what a ridiculous approach. RSPCA in Oz used to provide a voucher but the uptake was so low that now they do not rehome an animal until it is neutered. All mine from RSCPA have been neutered, and stitches ready for removal when I take them home. And yes, that means that kittens and puppies have to be fostered until they are old enough, but it also discourages the spontaneous 'I want a kitten' person as they have to be prepared to wait.

I was not homechecked for any of my animals (well, I was for Esther, but that was here), but they indicated a homecheck would be required for a few of the animals I have homed. They have simply changed their approach when they have met me. When Shadow was adopted I was accompanied by two friends who kept up a running commentary on the sorts of things i needed to have addressed (and how they had been addressed) and so it was clear this was an unrehearsed and disinterested discourse. So I assume they judged my suitability on the basis of my response to the matters my friends raised and the fact that I had friends who were dog owners and clearly responsible ones ... who knows?

in the case of our local rspca I can see why people why not want to if you know what I mean!  but yes it is a matter of trust, you'd think it would be easier taking them back than trying to find somewhere new I think the girl I know felt embarrassed like she had failed

I know it's hard to police but also if this was the agreement, it would then at least prevent some of the animals going elsewhere by "decent" owners doing the right thing.  I took Jake and George back not so long ago, their dad had work problems and I tell anyone who has cats off me that they must be returned.  I had someone a while ago who had a couple of kittens off me, sadly their dog wanted to kill them so they had to be returned and he told me his sister in law would have take them, I refused and told him a homecheck will still have to be carried out etc, funnily enough she never got in touch

we had to sign with the blue cross and the rspca to say we would give them back - however there is no way of policing it I'm sure I know that someone I know rehomed a cat to a breed rescue that she had got from the rspca

My two boys were rescued with 19 others from a tiny flat and the two original cats were kittens from Battersea. The owner had mental health problems and a few years ago had got 2 kittens, boy and girl, from Battersea. She never took them back and eventually got evicted. When the council went in they found all the males in a tiny bedroom and the females in the rest of the house. One of the young males got picked on by the others so she had put him in a cage and he had been in there for 12- 18 months! He was terrified. There were no litter trays, just newspaper on the floor.

That situation arose because no one checked that the kittens came back for the snip. And there were more cats but she had given some away in the years before she completely lost it. The original mother cat was PTS as she had bad tumors, malignant. THe others have all been rehomed. Riley and Digby are lovely and I have had no problems with them. Always used the litter trays, not destroyed anything yet, but still timid when I'm walking around and don't really like being picked up.

I don't understand how places like Battersea can't check that the animals come back for spaying. It's ridiculous.

It is quite suprising just how many rescues claim they will take back an animal but when its put into practise they dont; I had a run in with a CP HQ over this a couple of years ago and their main concern was to keep the story from the papers( cat was very cruelly  abandoned when they refused and he suffered badly)  though they claim they reprimanded the branch concerned. Also got a rescue not far from me who last year refused to take one back despite the fact he was living on the streets in a bad area; I know I ended up rehoming them and others too. as for checking up on neutering 2 years ago  of 3 kittens homed by a rescuelocal to me to same house, 1 male ended up killed on road entire tom age less than 1 year, 1 female spayed at my expense and 1 female pregnant and later rehomed by me along with her kittens.
Most rescues are careful about checking but sadly some believe if you charge a big fee on adoption the people are ok , what a big mistake.

CP also have a policy where the cat has to be returned to them - that kind of policy is almost impossible to police with the best will in the world though

The rescue i got mine from thou i got a sort of homecheck hasni bothered  finding out if i got them nuerterd or even if i still  have them......& its  small  one like yaself dawn not that far from me so I guess its not only the big rescues.   Also not bothered about homeing kittens as young as 6 weeks

Any of mine are rehomed on the condition they come back to me if there are any problems, so they are not pushed from pillar to post.  They are also spayed/neutered if old enough and I get them sorted when old enough if not, and of course homechecks are done.  I think by not taking them back, it's leaving the whole system open to abuse

I do beleve that the big rescues dont take animals back...once you walk out the gate then thats it i know sspca dont take back...nither homecheck or neuter before rehoming hoping that the folk will come back a week/fortnight later to get it done......now whos going to do that...very very  few...& they cry about over breeding

I find this quite worrying really but today I had an email about these two persians that are being rehomed due to an allergy    They have had them 4 years and initially they came from Battersea.  Someone is concerned that these babes end up in the wrong hands and it turns out Battersea apparently have no policy for reclaiming animals once they have been rehomed and the people no longer want them    I always thought most rescues especially the bigger ones have an ongoing commitment to the animals that have been in their care    In effect, people could get animals from Battersea and sell them on

This isn't for me but someone concerned about a 2 persians that were rehomed from there 4 years ago, they are now being rehomed    If anyone can help, can they pm me please
