I think the key is for me to get the medicine quite far down in the food as opposed to on the top, where it is going into an empty stomache. The night before he hadn't ate it all so I put it on top last night - and he was sick! So I just need to make sure I position it well enough and see how that goes!

Oh I'm sorry to hear. Hope there is no more sickness. At least there was no blood this time. Dragan's vet warned that Metacam can upset the tummy and said to give it with Zantac (but Dragan did have pancreatitis so I am not necessarily saying you should use Zantac)

Day 4 back on the medicine and he has been sick again - but no blood and face looking better - but not as great as before

Well one of them was sick with dry food this morning - but just a wee bit and it is difficult to tell which one it was (the problem of having two cats!!)

I know Oscar has a hair ball brewing so could have been him. Edgar also eats too fast so may have been him - either way there was no blood in it so thats the main thing and it was right after eating so hmmm we shall see!

So after a two day break, back on the Metacam tonight but 0.3 rather than 0.45 and I buried it right in the middle of his wet food. That was two hours ago and no vomitting - so thats a starts!!!

Will give it another couple of days before I start to feel we are out of the woods!

I know the vet seemed to think it was unusual too. I had been a bit worried about putting him on it after I googled it (big mistake) and read all these scare stories about it and lo and behold my wee man has a reaction to it!! Vet thought it was unusual too but thought it could still be effective with a smaller dose so fingers crossed.

He has now been off it for 24 hours and no blood in sight - I just hope it stays that way after tomorrows dose!

me too. It's just awful when you have to cut medication that is working because of the side effects. Hope it continues to work for Edgar and he stops vomiting blood, poor mite.

Morning all, just back from Vets and he could find no sign of a problem tooth in his mouth so thinks it is the medication. He has suggested we cut his dose from .45 to .3 and not start him back on it until tomorrow so we will see.

He was actually sick last night after I fed him and there was blood in it so it would appear it is the medication. The problem is until this the medication had really made a difference to his tumour. His eye was no longer eatering, his nose was not snuffly and the eye that was obstructed by the tumor was fully open again. So we shall see how he gets on with the lower does.

He has really been himself, eating normally and using litter box etc and there is still the chance the blood is from the tumour as it shrinks so we shall see -

I had a look again at the photos of him before i adopted him and the tumour in his face is down a lot, I really hope this is the source of the problem.

I was in a panic as to how I would get him to the vet as I am meant to be working and hadn't arranged any lifts (I don't drive) and Saturday buses to the vet would have been a nightmare but my brilliant brother who lives on the other side of Edinburgh is taking me

I just hope it is actually the tumor and not the medicine causing the problem as his face and condition has really improved from this med!!! Will update all tomorrow

I am a wee bit worred about my cat Edgar who seems to have had blood in his mouth the last couple of days.

I noticed on Wednesday night he had a funny coluor on his front leg (his is mostly white) but I just thought he had just ate his food and slobbered some down his leg whilst licking himself clean. Then last night I noticed the same thing except it had a pinky tinge. I looked closer and decided it was def blood and tried to look on his leg, no sign of anythign there and then I had a peer in his mouth and there was blood there.

I called the vet this morning and spoke to them. They suggested I monitor it and keep an eye on things as he is his normal hungry as a horse, talkative and friendly self. I then came home today and there was spots of blood on the couch where he normally sleeps - obviously from his mouth. I checked his mouth and there was nothing there then looked a wee bit later and there was blood again. So I have called the vet and he is going in tomorrow at 9.45.

I am so so worried just because of how quickly my wee man Bertie went down hill I am prob being over cautious!!

Has anyone ever had this before?

He just started on new medication last week - Metacam - which I read some dreadful things about on the internet from people who had problems with it but likewise a lot of people praised it and the vet nurse said it was unlikely this was causing it!

He does have a bening tumor in his nose and was put on Metacam with the hope of reducing. It may sound silly, but I am not sure what a tumor is made up of and hoped it could actually be this breaking down - the medication has made a significant difference to his face I think and the tumour has came down. The vet nurse said it may well be this too!!

I know I am at the vet in the morning but I am so worried - arrghhh
