Hi,
Here is an update on Smudge and Willow. They have been here for almost a week now and are both thriving! They are such friendly and playful kittens, it's a pleasure to have them here.  :Luv:
My existing cat Ronnie has been ok with them so far but they haven't met without a barrier as yet. We're going to try this out at the weekend as they've all seen each other and spent time in the same room (with the kittens in a large carrier to be on the safe side!). Anyway, here's some photos of them in play mode for you to see how they're doing....

Willow and Smudge are currently settling into their new home (well, the spare bedroom for now!) and they are absolutely adorable!  :Luv2:

Julie has done a great job over the last few weeks looking after them, they are such healthy and happy little kits!  :)

I'm going to get some photos of them tomorrow and will post them here as soon as I can.

Well,  the kits are on the way to their new home.    :Sad Bye:

I wish them a happy life and I hope they settle in very very soon.

I cried like an idiot!     :stupid:

Sorry Dee!!    :sorry:

Give them lots of love and cuddles from me please?   x x

No need to be sorry, I would have been the same! I felt for you when we took the kittens out to the car.  :'(

The fact that they are lovely, friendly and playful cats is testament to how well you loved and cared for them.  :Luv:

They will get lots of love and cuddles from you via me!  ;) ;D

Hiya all,

Just thought I would post an update.

Dee will be Willow and Smudge's new mummy as from tomorrow evening!   Yaaaayyyy !!

It has been a bit frustrating for us getting to this point for reasons I won't go into  :shoosh:, but Dee knows what I am referring to?! but it's all now sorted.

Although it will be a very very upsetting day for me  :'(   I am glad for my 2 babies, Dee & her partner, and also the one that has caused all this.....Cookie!    :-:

I want to thank Dee with all my heart for wanting to adopt them and I hope she has many many years of love and purrs.  X

 :thankyou:

Hi All,
just to update you on the current situation regarding us adopting Willow and Smudge. I had a call from the Cat Protection asking me to leave my details with them which I've done so I'm waiting on them now to contact me to arrange a home visit. They were supposed to ring me but that never happened  :-:

Never mind, I'm sure it'll all be sorted soon and I'll post again when I have further details.

Dee  :)

I bet if my kits were with a fosterer that would make the homing officer work a bit faster cos they would want the space they were taking up?!

With their rescue you go pick your cat and take it straight home with you.

I have been with a couple of people to their rescues and they don't ask any questions regarding where you live, other animals, children, busy roads etc..

We got our Smoke from one like that. Nice folk but they didn't tell us anything about her and when our Vet found out where she was from the Vet confirmed that's how they work.

Pitty too as they're right down the street near Castleford.

There are 2 local rescues in my area that to be honest I wouldnt use as they do not do home visits.  So I can't see that me asking them to do a home visit will do any good.   I know it sounds awful but I wouldnt trust them to pick a suitable home.

When I adopted the kittens I signed an agreement that if things didnt work out for any reason I would hand the kittens back into the care of CP and NOT rehome them myself.   I don't want to hand them back as I can't bear the thought of them going to a fosterer to be kept in an outdoor pen or in a room, maybe to stay there for weeks, months or even years?  I would rather them stay here until a home is found then they can go to their new home from here.  I want as little upheaval as possible for them (plus I get to be with them for longer no matter how much this is hurting me......I just don't want to let them go)
Surely they must home check where Dee lives?   I looked at their website and Adel Leeds branch is the closest to Dee and myself so its not like they can pass the home visit onto another branch.    The homing officer did not say they won't home check there.......I think she is dragging her heels a bit thats all.
Will see what happens when Dee rings the homing number.
I don't think where Dee lives being the problem, I just think the homing officer (won't mention her name just in case she or any of her colleagues come on this website!) is a bit slow.
She told me on sunday that there had been 2 others interested in the kits........well, one was only interested in Willow with her being grey, but I have stressed that they MUST be homed together.  I dont want someone taking both just for Willow then getting rid of Smudge as Smudge is just so adorable.  I can honestly say she is the sweetest, cutest, most affectionate little kitten I have ever known.  And the sad thing is she loves me so much and I love her to bits back.  As she is playing she will jump up on the arm of the settee where I am sat, rub her face against mine then go back to playing (ive got big tears dropping out of my eyes here!).  She does this a lot.....

The other person that was interested in them the homing officer said......"by the time I got back to her" she had got herself a kitten.

In a way its a relief as these 2 people must not have been right for my babies.

They need to to go to someone that REALLY wants them and is willing to sit this process out and will love them as much as I do (if thats possible?!)........which Dee seems to be that person.

Lets see if Dee ringing the rehoming number direct gets things moving a bit.

Oh that's a shame, I was hoping they'd be snuggled up with their new brother by now.  I really feel for you Julie and in a way I think this situation is sadder than most, the majority of people rehome their cats because they can't be bothered with them anymore, a puppy, a move where cats aren't allowed (obviously didn't try very hard to find somewhere) and their 'new' home is almost certainly better than their 'old' home but with these two they already have the most fantastic loving home and you love them to bits but still have to let them go.

Was just wondering, do they have to be rehomed through CP?  If CP are unable/unwilling to homecheck Dee due to distance then could you do the rehoming yourself?  To put your mind at rest you could ask for a vet reference and maybe offer a more local rescue a small donation in return for a homecheck on your behalf if you didn't feel confident doing the homecheck yourself.

Give Cookie a gentle kiss from me, still got everything crossed that this works out for the little ones.

Hiya Helen,

I rang homing officer on sat and left a couple of messages to which she rang me back on sunday morning.
I told her of Dee's interest in the kittens and gave her Dee's contact number.   As yet she hasn't contacted her.
She didnt seem too happy when I told her where Dee lives as it means she will have to travel a little bit further, she let out a looooooong drawn sigh.  I asked if that was a problem and asked if she would do a home visit there or not?   She said yes if it sounded promising.....which it does to me.
So why hasn't she called her yet?   She knows my current situation and that I need to find these kits a home asap.

In all honesty im a bit annoyed about it.   I know she will be busy and will have other commitments but she could at least give her a call and acknowledge her interest.
If she doesn't ring her today Dee will ring the rehoming number direct herself,  surely they will need to act on it then??

I have this morning got a very very unhappy hissy, spitty Cookie as its chucking it down with rain and I wont let her out.  She is now forced to stay in, which normally wouldn't bother her but with the kittens being here she just doesn't want to be in, whether its raining or not.
As usual she is hunched up on the bedroom window will sulking.

Lets see what today brings eh?!

We have another cat aside from Cookie called Jessie.
She is a black/white female who is a big softie.    She was a year old when we got Cookie, so Cookie has grown up with her.
They get on ok, but since getting the kits Cookie goes off on one with her too.   Its like everyone and everything is now her enemy.

Basically Cookie is acting like a spoilt little brat!

This has now taught us a lesson (a very upsetting one at that!) that we can never get another cat/kitten while we have Cookie.

Awww, I really hope this means these babes have got a home  :wish:  They do look absolutely gorgeous and it must be heartbreaking having to rehome but it sounds like Cookie needs to be an only cat, and although upsetting for you and the kittens, it's probably for the best.  I hope it all works out for them, and Julie well done for doing what's best for both Cookie and the kittens, xxxxxxxxxx

Aww, Julie I don't blame you for being upset as you're obviously attached to them but it shows how much you love them that you're willing to let them go in order for Cookie to be happy again and Willow and Smudge to be happy in a new home.  :Luv:

I can't say 100% but I'm fairly certain that Ronnie will be ok with the kitties, he's friendly with other cats nearby and he has a really nice temperament. He was never aggressive to Mathers even when Mathers was ill and quite irritable with Ronnie.

I'm happy to have a home visit from the CP as I agree with you that it's a good idea and if they were my cats, I'd feel better for them to go to a suitable home and owner. We don't have any kids and have a cat door installed. We're not near any main roads or shop etc. so hopefully there'll be no problems. Could you ring them first and explain the situation about a home being offered for them so that when I contact them, they'll know the score? I'll PM you with my phone number if you could pass it onto them.
Best Wishes,
Dee

I want them to be happy, they deserve it.  They are the loveliest kittens ive ever known.
Smudge (the black/white one) is very sweet, affectionate and very gentle.  Willow is like a little bull in a china shop.  We nickname her silverbullet cos she runs at everything guns ablazing! When she gets affectionate it overwhelms her!   Bless their little hearts.  :Luv2:

Hiya Dee,

Bless your heart, thank you.    Im crying my eyes out here as I really dont want to be doing this.

I have to rehome the kits through Cats Protection (Adel Branch) so they can do a home visit as it is their policy to ensure that all homes are suitable, which in all honesty I agree with.
Would you consent to a home visit?   If so can you contact CPL on:  Offering a Home: 0113 2610694 ext: 1

The CPL homing page has the following details regarding the kits: (http://www.catsprotectionadel.org.uk/ if you would like to see the advert of the kits)
Willow and Smudge
4mths at 9 Jan 08
Willow and Smudge are beautiful kittens who are looking for a home together. They are playful and affectionate and would fit in to a household with older children, with a catflap already fitted so they could have the freedom of coming and going when they are neutered. They are used to having the run of the house, and we are therefore looking for a home where they can have equal freedom to run around and display their lovely kitten temperament!

Do you mind me asking a question?  Will your existing cat be ok with them?  I would hate for the same thing to happen again and they have to go to another home.

I would love for you to see the kittens,  but unfortunately the decision regarding homing them would depend on the home visit.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.  x x x

Hi Julie,
I saw this thread about an hour ago and have had a long chat with my partner and we've agreed that we'd like to offer Willow and Smudge a permanent home.
We currently have one male cat who's two years old and is very friendly and playful and is good around other cats. Sadly, we lost our other rescue cat, Mathers, to mouth cancer in December so we have more than enough room for two more cats. We don't have any other animals here and we live in a house with a garden in a quiet area. We've both always had cats since we were children and know all the associated joys and frustrations of having feline friends!
We could come over tomorrow afternoon as we're not that far from Bradford? If you're interested in us taking them, maybe you could answer this message on the forum and from then onwards we could communicate privately with details such as addresses etc.
I can assure you that Willow and Smudge, should they be re-homed with us, will have all their needs taken care of and tons of love as well  :Luv:

We have the plug ins.  Plugged them in about a week before we got the kittens so they could "warm up"!, needless to say they haven't done a thing!

We have just got back from shopping, let the kits out of their bedroom, one ran in view of Cookie and she let a little hiss.....we thought great....but she is now cowering on the window sill.    Its just not going to happen, she isn't having a bar of them.

She wont come into the part of the living room where the kittens normally play or sleep, not even when they are locked in their room. Its like there is now an invisible barrier that she wont cross.   cats eh?!

and feliway plug-ins? have you tried those, they may help your cookie to feel less stressed, at least until you have sorted out the problem. I have found them invaluable in the past ...
