Title: VetUK now stocking Iams :-(
Post by: Mark on November 20, 2007, 13:58:28 PM
I just received the latest email from VetUK

'We would also like to give a big Vet UK welcome to Iams Cat Diets"  >:(

I have emailed back expressing my disappointment that they have started to stock it with links to websites with info. I also said that as I avoid companies that sell it, please would they remove me from their mailing list.

I know that Tesco etc sell it but most vets have stopped. As they are supposed to be vets themselves, they should be aware of the issues.

Edit - I just got a reply from them (after 10 minutes!)

"Thank you for your email. We have been fully aware of Iam's testing
methods history. However, they have admitted to this and do not use
 this
testing methods any more. However, if you still wish, I shall un
subscribe you.
Kind Regards, Vet UK Customer Services"

Not sure what to think - any ideas?

Rest assured it's not just Iams - Hills, Purina, RCW.. all the big companies conduct cruel and unnecessary testing on lab animals. Hills are massive culprits and stocked by most pet shops.

I feed Burns and Denes.

I did think of you this morning Mark when I did a litter tray round and decided to put it all into an IAMS bag I was given at the supreme and it was all it is good for  ;)  (I didnt buy IAMS of course but the store I bought from had no other bags!)

A woman in PAH told me she uses IAMS today and I told her why I don't. I am a woman who likes a bargain but I didn't even want the free samples in PAH. I wonder if its on offer quite alot because people are becoming more aware?

It is a shame Vet UK now stock it  :(

I also wondered if that was why it constantly seems to be on offer Dawn - I was telling my neighbour I had stocked up on dry food at PAH and she asked if it was Iams, and got a very stern no!! Plus some explanation of why. Mind you, she thinks Whiskas dry is good.

Mind you we've also noticed that the Buddy packs now contain Iams instead of Whiskas food now....  we did wonder why especially as nothing was said... ???

Great  >:( >:( >:(

I think rescues should also boycott the main culprits for these activities. If everyone sent their buddypacks back and said no more until you change them back then it would sort that problem out  :evillaugh:

That is naughty - we have been told we cna't have more buddy packs, will get the rescue to check with the vet (my vets dont seem to stock them).
Dawn, they are a pack given with kittens, contain a good magazine, toy, food and some money off vouchers.

What do you do if your cat has recurring cystitos without him having the special hills formulas -Smartie had it 2/3 times when i first got him and now (touch wood ) not had it for several years since being on hill s/d and now c/d ?
I am totally against any animal testing.

If Royal Canin are better, you could try their foods

You feed them a good quality meat flavour wet food  ;D (fish not so good for bladder cats)

See this post http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,11904.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,11904.0.html)  main jist of things is that once the stones are gone, you maintain a good bladder by a high water turnover, the diets have high salt to make the cats drink more.

If ph is a problem there are supplements available to help.

Gillian had cats with bladder issues, switched them to a mainly raw diet and so far so good. You could PM her for advice as feeding a raw diet is more than just giving meat  ;)

I have tried him on all sorts of food inc raw mince, cooked meats, hundreds of different cat foods , fish etc and all he will eat is whiskers supermeat chicken -everything else he just ignores .
I make sure he eats a lot of it though - more so than the biscuits .

I've just had a good read through http://www.iamscruelty.com/ after seeing this thread. It's terrible that a company who has an image of carring for pets can be so horribly cruel. I certianly won't ever be buying from them.

Knew about Iams a long time ago -never bought it for a good few years now -in fact did a protest about it at a cat show on a couople of occasions and also told the people selling it and the ones buying it about the cruelty involved - hopefully put a few people of buying.
