Title: My Cat Phoebe is missing - Rochester Kent
Post by: le chat noir on October 13, 2007, 11:54:03 AM
Hello everyone, My cat Phoebe has now been missing for a month and I am at my wits end. She disappeared on the 16th September 2007 and was last seen by a neighbour on the following morning of the 17th. She is a young (approx 4 year old), sweet natured cat and it is totally out of character for her to stray. Phoebe is a DSH black cat with a hint of brown in her coat and a few white hairs on her chest. She also has a nick in her left ear. Since her disappearance we have been searching high and low - we have a poster campaign in our village, we have door knocked, put leaflets though doors and stopped near enough everyone we meet. We have hung our smelly socks out by access points at the front and back of the house, even done this down the street and have emptied the hoover contents out in the same places. We had been tracking a sighting of a cat similar to her and had managed to encourage it to come and feed - but alas after 2 weeks of going out at all hours - we used a cat trap to get her and it was not her - how upset I have been this week. I have contacted local rescue centers, vets, the council and even tried to get a freebie in the local rag who then changed their minds. These people get a call every week - I do not care if they are fed up with me. We are out at all times everyday as we just want her back. Beginning to think someone may have pinched her!!

I thank you for taking time to read my story - please let me know if you have seen her or know her whereabouts. I am so glad that there is such a strong community of cat lovers. Thank You

Sorry to hear Phoebe has not returned yet.  I've seen your notices round the village and have been keeping my eyes open.  There're quite a few black cats around here which makes it hard to know if it's her or not.  I do hope she turns up - perhaps someone is feeding her nearby.

puddypaws! le chat noir! both medwayites and I didn't know. Double welcome both of you. Le Chat noir, so sorry to hear about phoebe. There are quite a few black cats in my street but they all seem attached to particular houses - I see them on my way to the train in the mornings. And then of course there is Esther who lives with me. PM me and maybe all three of  us can get together and form a posse to look for your pussy. How heartbreaking for you. Have you also contacted Medway Council? The dog warden there is very sympathetic to people who are looking for their cats, they were very helpful when Smidgen went walkabout. You seem to have done all the things you should do, so perhaps some active kitty=hunting may be in order...

Oh wow - understanding cat lovers in my area - just great. thank you both for your thoughts and kind words. We have been concentrating the last 2 weeks on a cat in the area between the white horse pub and the row of terrace houses down from it. The cat only seemed to appear during the small hours of the night and we had encouraged it to come to our carrier box and feed. We were so sure it was her - but alas not - we used a trap to get a look at her - what a lovely animal - do not know if she was a stray or not? I am going to be putting some new posters up tomorrow as some of them have been ripped. I have been phoning the council each week to see if they have picked her up from an accident - can I actually get to speak to the dog warden? We also have been searching on the cow field behind our house - it is such a vast expanse of area to cover - but have done scent trails back to our garden - we also keep looking in the old village school - you can still get in there - not a very nice place now. we have also got the postie on the case - he thought he saw her down the side of the coop going towards Cordelia crescent - we have searched all round there - spoke to everyone we saw and ruled out the 2 black cats we found.

Thank you once again for reading my story and being so kind - please keep them peeled and let me know about anything you see.

I did not get to speak to the dogwarden but they sent me a lovely message when I first contacted them by email. And promptly too. You are way the other side of town from me, I am actually in Chatham, near Maidstone Road, and don't have a car, but my dog, who is intensely cat-friendly, is quite good at following smells. I have not tried giving him a scent off something and then getting him to find it, but it is possibly worth trying at least? Does Phoebe like dogs? or would he frighten her? he is quite big ... but completely hen-pecked by my cats (Smidgen uses him as a trampoiline or a step when getting off the bed ). Really feel for you as Smidgen did a runner recently and had me worried sick.

Hi blackcat, Not sure about Phoebe and dogs - I do not think she has ever come across one - all our neighbours are cat owners. My other cat whiskers (no longer with me - passed away a year ago) did not like dogs at all, one time he was being hassled by a snappy yorkie dog and suddenly he turned and attacked it. If you think your dog could help me that would be wonderful - if you are serious about it - let me know and perhaps we can arrange something - of course no obligation.

of course i am serious. I have just been through hell and gone with Smidgen missing for 36 hours. I don't know how you are remaining rational at all in your circumstances. If your cat has not met dogs then Shadow might not be a good introduction. He is very big. But more than happy to find my way over there and we can have a look around together. Don't know about you but I felt a right fool wandering the streets by myself yelling 'smidgen' at ten at night!! Now. how will I get over there. Is there a bus service? I am only two months in Medway and still working out how to get around ...

Wow, I feel so choked that you want to come over and help me. There is a bus service from chatham station that runs directly into my village or I could collect you if your dog will fit into my car.

the dog is a labrador Rottweiler cross. The labrador looks and temperament. Rottweiler body size. When do you want us? What number bus? Would I just get off the bus at the White horse pub? Will PM my contact details to you. That is the fine print at the top of this page that says 'hey le chat noir you have x messages ...' when a number comes up my message will be there.

Just a thought Chatnoir - the path that runs from the Canopus to Sidney road - when I'm walking the dog I often see cats (mostly black) around there.  If you need any help with your search pm me.

thank you puddypaws. We do walk that path most days and have seen 2 suspects. the owner was identified of one of them and the second one we saw yesterday was in a garden down the alley but just looked too big for her. Please keep looking and let me know if you see anything.  I have posted leaflets in both of the St Johns ways up there and now intending to do mount road and the st matthews drive - not too sure if they are too far afield - but you never know.

A Phoebe Update for everyone. Firstly a very big thank you to blackcat and shadow the doggie for spending their afternoon with me searching for Phoebe. We walked and called in all her favourite places and did a complete tour of the area. NO PHOEBE. I am beginning to think that some has now picked her up and taken her home - I know people may do this with good intentions - but I wish they wouldn't. I am renewing my posters today as someone has decided it would be fun to rip them and widening my search. I also spend my Monday's ringing all the vets, rescue homes, council etc for an update. Does anyone know how to get the RSCPA at Leybourne to answer the phone? - all they have is recorded messages - I'm probably going to have to visit them.

Again, a great big THANK YOU to blackcat for coming over to help me and giving me support. :thanks:

I'm off to visit them tomorrow - I have been phoning them for near on 3 weeks now and it doesn't matter which option you select - you still get an unhelpful message that then hangs up. I did write to them with her photo and description and I have to say that the RSPCA are none too helpful. Each week when I call their national helpline for an update - they never have my details registered and I have to go through it all again - lets hope that this doesn't let too many animals slip through the net.

Hi Cheryl - have you contacted the local RSPCA at Strood? They seem a little more helpful.

Hi, I have contacted a cattery that is RSPCA in Strood in Sycamore Road by phone and letter - they are linked to the local RSPCA center in walderslade who I have also contacted by phone and letter. They do get a call from me each week. If this is not the one you are thinking of let me know details. Thanks

Our neighbour told us this afternoon that he had seen her on his way home from work this lunchtime. It's quite a stretch from our house - down at the bottom of shorts way where it bends into the esplanade there is an opening  to a track that leads into the bottom of the village by the marina - still a trek from our place (think that puddypaws will know where I'm on about). He had seen her siting by the entrance to this footpath - he said that he even took a second look  - wish he had got out of his car. Funny enough we had been down that way this afternoon putting up new posters and walking this path not knowing any of this. We of course went back down there and had a good look around shaking our biscuit box - thought we could hear some kitty sounds - not too sure. Again, we met some really nice people, and one guy took our poster to put in his house window as he lives in the village near the footpath. We are off back down there later tonight/in the wee hours.  I just want her home. Will keep you all posted

Whilst out looking in this area we met a dog walker who told us about a black cat that her dog walking crowd have seen regularly in an area of land opposite the priestfields entrance (not the canopus end), again its seems a bit far for her to wander, but we going to have a look tomorrow morning as this is when the dog walkers have seen this cat. It's all go here - just want her back

cats cover an amazing amount of ground. You would be surprised just how far they travel when we are not looking - especially if they get a fright. Hope it is your wee girl, and an ID by the neighbour is certainly encouraging.

My neighbour's eyes are probably fresher than mine at the mo - believe me I'm running up to every black cat I see. As previously mentioned we had been tracking a cat for 2 weeks in our village which we were so convinced was ours - this same neighbour also saw this cat and kept saying no its not her. Keeping everything crossed. I visited the RSPCA in Leybourne today as I could not get a human to answer the phone - She is not there - they do have my letter on file and assure me that I will be contacted if she comes in. I also prized a number out of them where I can get a human. I did have a look around the cat pens and left there in floods of tears - so many young cats and kittens that had been abandoned, dumped and bought in as strays - all so loving - where are these irresponsible people they make me mad. Of course I met a special little fella there, the spit of my Phoebe when she was a kitty, I would love to give him a home not to replace Phoebe - just because I can and I want to. Phoebe is use to other cats in the house as she shared it with our Whiskers for 4 years before he sadly died.

I was the Same when My Hamish had His second Adventure " Chasing B/W cat's through Peoples Back Yards "
I remember I had about Five Houses in a Row with the People coming out asking WTF was I doing ??
But they were more than understanding once I explained.. and even Helped !!
I Never realized there was so Much Black & White Cat's in the area, Till Hamish Went Missing
One guy I worked with was a taxi driver and He said He seen a B/W cat sitting by the side of the road
between Fraserburgh and sandhaven, about a mile and a half from my house, That night I walked all the way
to sandhaven and Back Shouting His Name and Rattling the Biscuit's (no sign of Him :( ) I feel for You cause
when our furbabes Disappear, You kinda Go through Stages of Grief with not Knowing where they are :'(
3 week's later Hamish came Back by Himself, a scratch on the nose and one on the ear and visable weight loss
He was Real Glad to Be Home ;D

It Is Good that People a reporting Sighting's of Phoebe, It Probably is Her, and She's still in the Area. It's Just
a Matter Of Luck and Timing, And Who Know's? She may come home by Herself too

Keeping my finger's crossed that you will be Posting Good News on Here Soon

A Phoebe update. We got home at about 2.30am and did not have any sighting - it was raining hard so if it is her down there she probably would be sheltering. Been back again today around the same time our neighbour thought he saw her - not a cat in sight. Also ventured to the other site that some dog walkers had mentioned to us - but not a cat in sight.  I am so down again today - going back out later tonight. I just want a positive sighting.

Sorry hun.  I've been looking and OH keeps his eyes open on dog walks but the ones we see are local ones and we know where they come from.  I promise we will keep looking.  I've also asked my daughter to keep her eyes open because she backs on to the farm field you searched.
Title: Re: My Cat Phoebe is missing - Rochester Kent

thank you. That field is enormous - so much to cover - we have spent days and days going over it. My mum has even been out walking around there. We back on to it as well and it was Phoebe's hunting ground with her pals from next door - she never went far though - even when we went for walks on it - she would only come so far and then stop. Blackcat and shadow had a good walk round it at the weekend - we did see a tabby cat up by the fort - never seen it before. I have finally got a local rag to put in an advert (only lineage) for free and I'm thinking of asking them to do a piece on stray/abandoned/homeless kitties - to highlight the upset and stress it causes and what can be done to try and find your kitty or find a kitty's owner - I'll let you know what they say.

Still looking for my little one. A new lead on Friday evening took us to another area in our village. A lady rang us to say that her friend had seen a black cat in her garden which was not one of the regulars - also she said that the regulars  did not come into her garden as she has a dog. Had a look around this area and met Puddypaws - she lives in the row of houses that we were looking around - such a lovely lady. We had no luck in find Phoebe and will be back out today taking the grand tour in search of our furry little one.

Hi

Don't know how far away Orpington is from where you are but there is a 4 ish yr old female black cat at Foal Farm who was found as a stray in Orpington...  Scroll down to the very bottom - Faith.

Sorry if it's not her but thought it was worth a look.

Thank you for this. I had been looking at Faith earlier on today - but was thinking that Phoebe could not have got to Orpington under her own steam - still you never know - I'm still thinking that someone may have taken her and perhaps dumped her. I have emailed the farm with Phoebe's details and photos and asked for more info on Faith.

Good morning to you all. Yesterday I started to widen my poster campaign and spent the afternoon putting them up quite a distance from our home and chatting to a few people about Phoebe. My weekly calls to all the vets, rescue centers and council (if you are interested in what our council do with RTA's - have a look at my post in the petition section for micro chipping)has all drawn blanks - I have made sure that I ask each vet surgery and rescue center to keep her details until I let them know what has happened. These posters in vets do work - we had a call this morning from a chap (he had seen our poster in his vets)who has alerted us to a small black cat that he saw last night running across a dual carriage way in front of him (its up by Bridgewood - Puddypaws will know of this area) - it would not be impossible for Phoebe to get there and do it by avoiding all main roads. From our house you can walk through woodlands right up to this area - its a fair distance and could be done by a cat - there would be plenty of wild food on the way to keep her going. We are going to go up there and have a look and put up some posters - I do know that it could be any black cat - but I need to look.

Last night we went for a look around the disused prison farm - we were talking and shaking the biscuit box and out of nowhere a black cat appear and trotted over to us - did the Phoebe stretch thing with its front legs - oh my god - can it be her? It was not her - it was too big - although it had the nick in its ear. It was dark and we were unable to determine the sex of this lovely one - it was a big cat, very friendly, very hungry and it came and sat with us on the floor to eat. There are rented stables on the site - we do not know if this kitty belongs to them or is stray - we are going back today to see if anyone is around - we will leave a note on the stable doors if no one there. I want to make sure that this kitty does have a home - I was worried that it maybe pregnant - it was large in the belly department or it may well just be well fed.

I will keep you all posted.

Thank you to everyone who is still reading my story and sending support. I am so down at the moment  :(

We went to the busy and I mean busy interchange at Bridge wood approx 1.5 to 2 miles from our home. Using our binoculars we spotted a black cat playing away minding its own business in a grassy area right in the middle of this interchange. We managed to dodge the traffic and get over to the cat - being as quiet as poss - but it spotted us and we got concerned about the road. We got enough time to see that it was not Phoebe - it was way too big and slightly fluffy. Unfortunately the cat ended up bolting across the busy road into more woodland - we did try to follow - but lost it. Again we do not know if it was feral, stray or it belonged to someone from the houses that are near to there. In a way I was quite happy that we had actually seen this one and it was her. However, things have got on top of me now and I'm having a bad time - crying all the time.

I will be going up to the farm again today to look for someone to talk to about the cat that is there and if they have seen Phoebe. Speak to you all soon and thanks once again for your support.

This must be so hard and I know how I panic if one is missing for a few hours but you must stay positive

You read the post of the cat who came home after 4 months to a new brother and we have heard of cats missing much longer than that who have returned.

I cant remember how long she has been gone now but you are obviously missing cat company, would she accept a new brother or sister when she comes home, do you think?  ;D

Phoebe has been missing for 6 weeks this Sunday. I am most definitely missing cat company. It has been hard as this time last year our other cat whiskers passed away  :'( Phoebe is used to living and sharing with another cat. I would like to adopt a little one, but I am going to give myself a bit longer before doing so - I so fell in love with a cat just like Phoebe who is at Foal Farm - her details were sent to me - but it was not her. This little one is also in my thoughts at the moment. I'm feeling so much anger as well - thinking about all these lovely little furry ones that get left at the way side - where are their owners and how can they live with themselves.

I have hopefully another ad coming out in the local rag today. I am also planning to leaflet the whole village - just got to make sure the old printer is up to it. We also had a call from a couple last night who thought they may have Phoebe - they were not sure what sex the cat was that they had taken in. Alas it was not her - it was male - a very frightened thing - but he had landed on his feet with this couple who are taking good care of him and are going to keep him. What a lovely ending - it still makes me think where are his owners.  I'm hoping that if someone has taken Phoebe in, they are like this couple.

Hello everyone - still no news or new sightings of my little one. I know in my heart that she is not dead - I know I may have to face that fact - but I don't believe this at this time. There have been no RTA pick ups by the council who I pester every week and we have not seen anything or been contacted about any dead cats in our village. I really do strongly believe that someone has taken her in - good for my little one - but not good for me. I am going to leaflet every house in our village and surrounding area and put up new posters - someone must know something. My ad in the local rag has drawn a blank. We visited a couple last week who said that they had only seen our posters because they had been out walking and that they usually just came out of the house and got straight into the car. This could be the case with Phoebe - that someone has her - but has not seen the posters - and believe me there are plenty about. Hopefully a full scale assault of leaflets in doors might bring something.

I'm a bit shaky at the moment. I have just finished talking to the council who deal with RTA's. Apparently they now have on their database an entry for a dead cat that was reported and picked up on the 8th October from a road a bit of a distance from me - but not one to be ruled out. I am so upset, shaky and angry because I have been phoning these  :censored: every week and they reported nothing in my area. To make it more upsetting they have no description/details of the cat - because someone had put a plastic bag over it and they cant look in it - health and safety !!!!!

The girl on the phone has given me the name, address and phone number of the person who reported it - I'm too frightened to do anything at the mo - what if she is horrible - and gives me a hard time cos the council gave out her details. I will have to get my OH to do it. I am so choked at the mo.

Kitties can be such  a pain in the bum.  They don't realise how much we care about them, and how we get when they are not about.

I'm relieved that it wasn't Phoebe, but upset that someone else is having pain.

I'll send positive thoughts to Phoebe and lets hope she suddenly thinks hang on a minute your not my Mum, and comes home where she belongs. Just keep trying, don't give up hope (I know you won't). Carry on going out calling and shaking those biscuits, and even if she is tucked up somewhere safe and warm she'll come running to you.

Thank You Gail & Puddypaws. I've been out today dropping leaflets through doors, putting up even more posters and shaking my biscuits. Spoke with some locals and 2 of them said that they had seen an unfamiliar face in their gardens  and will watch out for them (this was in the mount road area - puddypaws will know where this is). Tomorrow I will be out doing the same - I really hope that someone knows something and can help us get this little tike home. I am feeling a lot stronger today and very determine not to give up.

I'm so  :censored: angry. I previously mentioned an RTA in my area which turned out not to be Phoebe - I got a description of the poor little mite and thought I would go back to the council with the details in case the owner comes forward. Well! I have heard it all now - as far as the council are concerned its a done job - poor kitty has been chucked into landfill and its one more statistic closed on their computer - I explained that all I was trying to do was to give a description of this poor mite and would like it added to the record on their system - but hey they cant do this - what  :censored:. What ever happened to our caring society? - I think that you are all here on this forum. Forgot to add that the council said to me "What's your problem"!!!!

I'm still trying to keep myself positive - its quite difficult at times. I have now moved further afield with my poster campaign and yesterday 3 people approached me to have a look at my poster and all said that they had seen my posters in the village and were on the look out for Phoebe. I'm off to an area adjacent to this today to put up more posters.   One positive thing to come out of our search is that we have now been able to establish that the Kitty's we have seen all have a home - I am pleased about this. My weekly calls to the vets, rescues and council are still drawing blanks.

Morning to you all. I believe there is some saying about things happening in three's? Of course I could be just plain mad!! Number 1 - a black cat sitting in Phoebe's wicker basket at the front of the house (of course it was Des - a visitor to our street), secondly a call from a lady took us to see a black cat which was not Phoebe and wait for it - NUMBER 3 - a lady who we spoke to at the beginning of our search invited us to her house last night to have a look at a new visitor she was feeding in the garden. She had been debating for a while as to whether she should contact us. This new cat is one of 4 black cats that visit her garden. She knows who 3 belong to and thinks this new one maybe Phoebe. It was dark, we did not get a good look  :( The cat shot off

The lady is going to speak to her neighbour to see if this new one belongs to her - she apparently takes in strays. So I'm keeping everything crossed that this could be my little tike.

I'm impressed with how many leads you are getting.  Quite often people post about their lost cats and after the initial flurry of responses the phonecalls die down.  Your poster campaign must be really good to get people still ringing you after such a long time of Phoebe being missing.  I'm just waiting for the day that you tell us she is home safe and sound  :)

Thank you so much everyone. I am so overwhelmed by your support and encouraging words. I so want this to be Phoebe. We are out everyday and evening doing a circuit of the area, checking and renewing our posters,  and leaflet dropping in doors. I'm not going to give up - we have been going to every sighting and making sure that the kitty we see has a home. I have my next plan of attack in progress - she has been missing 2 months on the 16th and I will be out leafleting again and putting update stickers on my posters. Believe me I cannot wait for the day when I can tell you all she is home.   :)

I feel so down today. No news from the lady we visited last Friday. Another possible sighting of a small black cat, looking very frightened and darting between parked cars about a mile away from us - spotted by someone in our village who had our leaflet. My OH went to the area - could not see any cats - so put up posters and leaflets through doors. We are going to have a look around there later tonight.

Another call today has lead us to meeting an adorable little girl that has been taken in by a lady not far from us. We have met this little one before - and were not sure if she had a home or was a stray. She was very thin and very hungry when we fed her and we didn't like to take her away. The cat has not wanted to leave the house and when they put her out, she would not budge from the step. The lady is very caring and is taking her to the vets for a chip scan and health check - however she is not sure that she wants to keep her - can anyone give me some advice that I can pass on to this lady about the safest way to re home. I'm hoping she will change her mind and keep her - this cat is so friendly and loving. I will be seeing the lady again as she has my cat box - I'm not sure if I am trying to convince myself to take this kitty in.

Sorry if I have waffled on - I'm so sad that this is not Phoebe, but happy that this kitty has found a safe place for now.

Hello,
sorry Pheobe is still not home.

1) Your not waffeling, your baby is missing and you are worried daft about her. Takling about her helps. so Talk and talk that's what we're here for.  I think we have all done it in the past, and it dose help.

2) I would take this little lady in.
 a) Phoebe would want you to, so when she comes home she can say hey well done Mum for taking in this stray, I wish someone had given me some where warm to sleep while I was lost. But, I'm home now so I want my love back, so we'll have to share.

 b) How guilty would you feel if this little lady went some where else when you have tons of love to give?

Go get her, it may help bring Pheobe back. I know you won't give up on her. xxxxx

Definately not waffling and we all understand

It sounds like this little cat needs a home and thinks she has found one. She sounds so like my Kocka who would not leave once she found me and used to break into my house when I was out.

I reckon  Pheobe has sent you a friend to look after and when she gets home she will be so happy that you took this little cat in.

I think it will be hard to find her a place at a rescue at present cos they are all chocker block but if you wanted to go down this route you would need to ring your nearest Cp and see if she can be put on a waiting list.

I have updated my other thread in this section to let you know what has happened to this little one. My thoughts are with her and I hope that she gets better and finds her forever home.

We have nearly finished our leafleting in the area - just a couple of streets to go. To date we have had no response.  :(

On Friday we spent about 2 hours with a family who had taken in a cat that they were convinced was Phoebe. This meeting happened by chance as the family live over 2 miles away and the mum had been working in our village shop and saw our poster. Her call sounded positive and she even mentioned the nick in the left ear - this is not on our poster. We arranged to visit them.

This very nice family had taken in this cat just before bonfire night, she had been hanging around and begging for food outside the shop that the mum worked in. It took her 2 weeks to gain the cat's confidence and it turns out that the little one had been in the area since about September. She had been trying to follow people home who kept chasing her off. This cat was in a state - not much fur and full of scabs. However, when we met her, she had improved so much. The family did not think that their home was the right one for her - it was a busy household 3 kids, 3 cats, 1 dog and 4 adults - the cat was living in a bedroom and would not come out.

The family were just about to contact the RSPCA when the mum saw our poster and contacted us. We met this little one and  :omg:  we could not tell if it was Phoebe - how daft does that sound - not being able to recognise your own cat!!! Anyway, after a trip back to see the veterinary nurse to ask more questions - YES you guessed it we decided to take her home. I think that in our hearts we knew it was definitely not Phoebe - but this little one could be her twin.

We have had no trouble with her settling in. She is nervous and jumps at a lot of day to day noises around the house. She has made herself comfortable on the cat cushion and loves to lay in front of the fire of an evening. She loves a cuddle and knows how to headbut for more - she has even started to purr and play. We do understand that she does have an owner somewhere and will be advertising her - the lady who picked her up said that she did ask customers in her shop about the cat - but no one knew where she came from. She will be going to visit our vet for an MOT and I will post some pictures of her shortly.

I am now hoping that the next black cat I see will be Phoebe (they say things happen in 3's). She now has a new play mate and I can't wait for them to meet.  :) Come home Phoebe.

I'm feeling very down at the moment. We have just finished leafleting the entire area - over 500 leaflets have now been put through doors and we have widened our poster campaign with some leaflet dropping to the neighbouring areas.

My weekly calls to the rescues, council and vets are all still drawing blanks - they all seem to think that I am nuts for still pursing my cat. This will make you laugh - my council said to me - I cannot understand why you are phoning us every week - if your cat went missing in September, we would have picked it up then. They did not seem to understand the concept that my cat could be still out there on the loose and I want to check that she has not been run over. What  :censored:

Well I'm not nuts - I'm just someone who is so desperate to get their kitty home safe and I keep telling myself that it maybe this one last poster, leaflet or phone call that brings her home.

Come home Phoebe XXX

I'm having a bad time again. There has been no response to our latest leaflet and poster campaign  :'(  We are still going out everyday doing our grand tour of the area and I have now started to poster and put postcards in shop windows that are definitely out of our area - its taking a while to do - but it makes me feel as if I am doing something and not forgetting her. I'm getting cheesed off with the  :censored: who are saying "when are you going to stop all this" and "what on earth are you doing sticking up posters and posting leaflets in other areas" I just keep hoping that it will be this last poster or leaflet that will bring her home.

I have an ad running for 3 weeks starting this Friday in another local rag - the one I have been using has not drawn any leads and they are getting fed up with me phoning each week asking for a repeat- (probably cos its free) and they don't always run it!! There has been nothing from the vets, rescues and council.

My neighbour left me a message saying that there was a black cat in their garden and it looked when he called out Phoebe - but he didn't go outside to it. If it was her I would have thought she would have come home? I have put new smelly socks and trainers out in the garden by her access points. I believe it was probably Des (black tom from next street) who likes to visit us.

If anyone can suggest anything else that I maybe missing - please let me know.

Come Home Phoebe - we miss you

Thank You all so much for your kind words and support. My best ever christmas pressie and it is top of my list (yes I still write a list at my age) is to have a positive sighting and even better to get her home. Spookie has claimed the cat cushion by the fire, but there is defiantly room for another kitty.

I have now made some new posters and have decided to invest in a laminator -  this will hopefully keep the posters drier (I have been using the plastic pouches - but they only last so long in the wet weather and they are an easy target for the yobs). I also thought that a new poster design will encourage people to look again. Currently I have 45 posters in action, so it will take a while to change them over. However, before I start on these I am going further afield, we have a stretch of main road (about 4 miles long - it runs from a busy road interchange down into Rochester city center ) which I am going to target, this road leads to various parts of the area and gets a lot of traffic and walkers. It is also a main bus route into our village, has schools, churches and shops along it.

I am so hoping that this and my new ads in the paper starting tomorrow will bring some news.  If she is still out there, I will get her home. Come Home Phoebe - We miss you.

Many thanks once again to everyone who has been following my thread and supporting me. It is very much appreciated.

Glad you are feeling a bit better.  Well done for thinking of new places to leaflet.  I have all my neighbours keeping their eyes open and we always search while walking the dog.  It would be lovely if Phoebe came home in time for Christmas, but at least you know that while she's away, Spookie also has someone to love and care for her as well.      to you.

Thank You for your kind words Puddy. It's lovely to know that you and your neighbours are still on the look out for her. We are out and about at the moment renewing our posters and putting up new ones - hopefully during the festive period there will be more people at home and out on walks who will see the posters and hopefully give us a lead on the little tike. We are waiting for a lady to call back who saw Phoebe's picture in her vets, she has a cat visiting her garden who she thinks could be her. It's quite a distance from us (in Lordswood) but not impossible. We have asked the lady to have a look at the cat's ear and also to try and establish the sex of it.

Happy New Year To You All.

We have been busy during the last week following up new leads in our search. A total of 6 leads - can you believe it!!!!! - we can't. It definitely has worked with putting up fresh posters and cards in shop windows. Unfortunately, 4 were male, 1 had sadly been run over and we are still trying to find the last kitty who has been seen hanging around some garages.

I have had a further run in with my council who keep telling me that no cats have been picked up in my area and this time I questioned them about an RTA that I had been told about and they said "Oh Yes - but we can't give you a description". I know that it was a black fluffy cat - no good asking them to update records, as they are not interested.

I visited the CP - no sign of her there - lovely people to deal with. I also did my round 20 mile trip to a RSPCA branch who just dismissed me at the reception and carried on with their chatting - was less than impressed with their attitudes. This organisation also posted a FOUND notice in a shop window where my notice is displayed. A lady called us to tell us about it and we went to have a look. It said "black cat found", the date and a reference number. My OH phoned the number and YES you have guessed correctly this reference number was not recorded. They took some details from my OH and put him on hold. By the time they had come back to him, we had got info from the shop and had pulled up outside the vets that the cat had been taken to - it was a male cat. The RSPCA advised that they would get someone to call back and that they had picked up a lot of strays matching Phoebe's description in our area. Well, we are still waiting.

We have been to the area of the new possible sighting and have put up posters - it is also near our vets so I will be contacting them.

Come home Phoebe, we are doing our best to find you , you little devil.

I've been a bit slow with my update and have been trying to post for ages - just haven't been able to find the words.

The posters are continuing to do their job. We've been looking around an industrial estate as we received news of a black cat that was seen twice in the same spot. Of course, I have now given this area the poster treatment and the people who saw this cat are on the look out. I also have the burger vans displaying my poster and keeping their eyes peeled. Another person I spoke to said that a black cat had been visiting their unit a while ago, but he had not seen it recently. If it is her up there, I hope she can keep safe. This place is sandwiched between a busy road and an airport field, if she crosses this field she will be in another town. It's also a busy place during the day and I hope she does not seek shelter in a van or container.

Yesterday I thought she might be on her way home. We had a call from the governor of the local prison, he had a black cat there and was convinced it was her. Alas, it was not her. This cat was a big old beast and did not look like it was a stray - it looked as if it had one too many feeding stations and it was a male. My heart sank - yet again so near and yet so far.

I know she is still out there and just want her back. My journey continues.

I hope Phoebe is soon home - and that you get more than tantalising possibilities soon.  I know how much it hurts....
One of my other cats is a tuxedo cat called Phoebe so I do have a definite soft spot for Phoebe cats!
Thinking of you

Dont give up hope.  I once found a cat in my back garden, it was July and that cat had actually gone missing in the May.  We took him to the vets and he was reunited with his owners as he was chipped.  He had walked quite a few miles from where he lived to where I lived, they can travel.  Have you got in touch with the vets in and around your area.

I am in Gravesend, and will keep an eye out for you too.  Good luck, I do hope you find her.

xxxx

Hi everyone. I'm finding that I cannot still let go - It has been 5 months now and there has still been no positive sighting or news. We are continuing with our poster campaign, which is doing a great job - we are receiving at least 2 calls a week - alas they are not her. There has been no sign of her at the vets, rescues or the council - they still get a weekly call from me.

Last week I was so upset that I had my OH taking me out at 1.30am each morning to have a look around the entire area - we were sitting in the freezing cold on an industrial estate with a pouch of stinky food - but we only attracted the foxes.

I will keep going and will not let it go as I keep being told to do so. I need to know where she is.

Come home Phoebe - I miss you  :'(

It must be incredibly disheartening for you. I am so sorry your persistence has not been rewarded ... Never give up hope, but maybe if you focus on your new babe you can start to heal the pain ...

Horrible foggy days that don't get warm are not good for the soul either...
