Title: Mia IS BACK!!! My beautiful Bombay girl has returned - fit and well
Post by: bombaycat on July 26, 2007, 19:44:12 PM
My lovely bombay boy Billy went missing on 18th July in the night from Kelsale near Saxmundham in Suffolk. He went racing out after rabbits or mice or something.
He is neutered and microchipped. He is totally black - very black, slim and muscular and has beautiful golden eyes.

I've been around to all my neighbours which are few as I live in the middle of fields. They are all looking out for him but he is undoubtedly in the fields somewhere. My neighbour is a cat protection rescuer so she is very expierenced at this, one of hers went missing for 3 months and came back when they cut the corn.

I'm devastated he is only 8 years old and his sister also pictured misses him very much they love to wrestle and play together.

If anyone hears anything please email me, I can give a reward for his safe return, he is so lovely.

Thank you very much everyone.,
Julia.

Sorry to hear your boy is missing, is he normally an indoor cat?
If you havent already done so alert the microchip company that he is missing.

Might be worth trying to trap him if you think he's in a field. If you get in touch with the Cats Protection or similar they should be able to loan you a trap. Really hope you get him back home very very soon. Also alert vets that he is missing and let the microchip company know (some will send out alerts to vets/rescues etc within 20miles)

Hi,
He is an outdoor cat, and always has been, but I have mainly kept him in at night in Suffolk, now I wish I had 100% of the time.
I have notified Cats Protection, RSPCA and the microchip people and put him on about 4 websites.
I'm planning to hang out socks, t-shirts, cat beds etc on the fences to see if he comes back to the smell. The main problem is it is so surrounded by fields that he could be in any hedge and we'd never know. I've been around the fields lots of time and at dusk, I'm still hopeful but very sad.

Thanks for your help, I really hope I might have good news sometime.

Julia.

Thanks, I have told the local vets also and my neighbour is the main Cats Protection lady in that area, she has traps so I may ask her to set some for me in case. Billy is such a home body that I think if he got anywhere near he'd come home as he loves his bed.

The good news is that he is a good hunter and is fit and healthy so I praying that he can look after himself pretty well out there.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated.

Julia.

Sardines and kippers are good to put in traps as they absolutely stink!!!

Hi Julia and  :welcome: to Purrs

So sorry about Billy, I have copied and pasted Sam's excellent advice here for you:

Sam's fantastic advice if you have lost your babe:-

Here are a few things to try:

1. Posters, Posters, Posters with picture and details with contact number.....hand out to neighbours and anyone you see. Put up in local shops, pubs and supermarkets. Stick to all local lamp posts. (If it rains go and collect them and replace however it's best to put posters in plastic wallets so if it rains they don't go all soggy - the neighbours and council don’t mind you putting them up so much that way).  Also put one in your and friends cars - it amazing how many people see them this way. Make smaller flyers and push through every letterbox on your streets and the surrounding area.   It is a good idea to offer a reward … of course this doesn’t have to be money … a box of healthyfood or a bunch of flowers is just as good.

2. Knock on doors and ask neighbours to check their sheds and garages WHILE YOU WAIT … it's surprising how many people say they will check but as soon as the door is closed they forget.   Knock on 10 doors either side of your house on both sides of the street.

3. Register him lost at all vets/catteries/rescue homes within a 20mile radius.  Follow the link and click on the map to find rescues in your area http://www.catchat.org/adoption/index.html

4. Leave food out and a toy of his

5. Leave out an unwashed item of your clothing

6. Put the contents of your hoover bag on your garden - it’s full of smells that they will recognise and if doesn’t bring him directly to your door will at least hopefully keep him in the area. Alternatively if you have a litter tray that has used put some of the used litter on the garden as this will have familiar smells in it.

7. Contact the local fire brigade and see if they have had to rescue any stuck cats

8. Ask the local children to look - they are great for knowing all the local hidey-holes and love helping. Also have a word with your local post-person and milk man if there is one that delivers in your area.   Also try and enlist the help of people walking dogs as they tend to go “off road” in the fields and parks.

9. Ask the local radio station to announce he’s missing and give out a contact number

10. Put an advert in the local paper

11. Contact your local environmental services dept (bin men) they keep a log of all animals picked on the roadside ... I know this is not a pleasant call to make and hopefully it will come back as negative.

12. Go out after dark when it is quieter with a friend / partner and walk round the local area gently calling every so often (give him a chance to answer you). Keep talking as you walk round that way if he is in the area he will hear you.

13. When you talk to vets and rescues, ask them about any known local feral colonies and where they are based. If Kitty has been missing for more than a few days s/he might have wandered further afield and might be “hanging round” near a colony for security (safety in numbers) and company. If vets/rescues know locations of colonies, these might be useful to get some ideas of where to start looking.

Finally have a look at these sites - they are all EXCELLENT

Hi Julie and  :welcome: to Purrs,

I saw your post on the national pet register and have sent you the list of hints I tips that we usually recommend.

I would keep going out in the evening when it's quite and keep calling him .... shout loudly so he can hear you.  There is a chance he has just got out of his normal "range" and is now a bit lost but the sound of his mummies voice is probbly all that's needed to get him back on track.

One of our recent members recently lost her baby in a large country park and he was found safe and sound: http://www.chaptanservices.com/purrs/index.php?topic=6099.0

Stay postivie and hopefully your boy will be back home soon xxxx

OK, I'll try that, he does quite like fish (big surprise).

Thanks for your kind messages, I've had 6 cats in total, 4 rescue, Billy and my burmese Coco (his half sister). 2 are in cat heaven, 1 lives with a friend as he couldn't get on with his brother and now Billy is missing I only have 2 with me and it just seems so few..... I love all my cats so much and it seems so harsh to think I might not see him again - it helps to keep some hope that he'll come back.

Title: Re: Billy Buttons, my beautiful Bombay boy is lost, I am heartbroken
Post by: bombaycat on July 26, 2007, 20:31:53 PM
Thanks Christine,
He was going mental in the night wanting to get out at something, that's the only reason I let him out (stupidly as it turns out). He'd already had a mouse and a shrew in the previous 2 days, I think he may have got a taste for the wildlife. My neighbour (who is a complete expert) says that there is an unusual amount of wildlife out there currently - this might explain the disappearances. She had 4 calls the follow day about other lost cats in the area, which given that it is rural are unlikely to be anything to do with humans. I'm just praying he fnds his way home - I shall be out shouting in the fields like a moron for some time yet.

I'll keep you all posted.

Hi,

No news I'm afraid, I've been all around the fields again this weekend but no sign. I'm still hoping that when they harvest the wheat he may get his bearings back. I'm still hoping but rest assured I'll be shouting from the rooftops if he comes back with the good news.
Thanks for all the support, it's gutting to know he might be out there and lost.

I will be looking for him for weeks and weeks - I feel sure he is out there. There's no reason to think he can't survive, he is a bit of a boy! There's not much that would hurt him either, no roads to speak of and lots of good places to hide and hunt. He is just so beautiful and my house seems so quiet without him, even my other two can't fill the silence....

I'll be out there at every opportunity, just hoping that they'll cut the corn soon in case that helps him see his way home.

Thank you - I'm trying to imagine him having a good time, it is warm and there are lots of mice and shrews around at the moment. I'd just love him to come trotting back with a baby rat in his mouth - I have some great photos of him with a live rat he'd caught a couple of years back...at least he had got some practice before going wild....

Don't give up! My brother in law lives out in the country in Canada and his male cats always went away for about 3 months during the summer. They would return the moment the weather turned a bit cooler. Also last year, our neighbour's male cat went off ( we live in the country) and they gave him up for dead as he had never done this before. He turned up more than 6 weeks later in wonderful shape. Otherwise, I very much favour the tip given by other posters, to go out in the quiet of evening/night and call for him, this has been successful for me in the past. Good luck

Thanks for the supportive posts. I am trying to keep up hope - there really isn't any particular reason to think he should have come to any harm. There is plenty of food and water and the countryside around me would be a good place for a cat to survive. He has never gone away before but he has lived much of his life in London, albeit a nice part with good access to green space which he's always enjoyed. I'm going to try again this weekend going out at dusk. Last week I went a spoke to every neighbour on the nearest block i.e. a 4-5 mile radius around the fields behind my house. Almost all of them have dogs and or horses so I very much doubt he'd be tempted to try to move in. They were all very nice and promised to call if they spotted him.
I still think he is lost but making the best of it in the wild - I'm glad to say he has all the equipment to make it in the wild, good claws, good teeth and eyes, he is fast and muscular - I'm praying he'll come back with tales to tell (except of course I won't understand!!)
I'll keep you all posted - it does help feeling people understand and that they care. Most people just don't get it and think it's a trivial problem (I avoid them).
Julia

Last summer - and it was about the beginning of August, I think - a cat turned up in our garden.  To cut a long story short, she (Zsa Zsa) had been missing from her family for three months and had been living on her wits.  They had given up hope of ever seeing her again.

The family had three young-ish children and they all came round to collect Zsa Zsa - you should have seen their faces  :Luv:

Please do not give up hope.

I was thinking that there must be a market for a rapid response sniffer dog to track lost pets across fields - if only I had one I know I'd have bee able to find him in the first couple of days. Maybe when I'm retired I'll train one and offer this service - at least I'd be able to use it for my own cats, if it were to ever happen again.
What do you reckon? It's the knowing that I can look out over the field and he must be there but I just don't know where - very frustrating.
I've attached a picture of the fields - as you can see needle in a haystack.

Sorry to be quiet - the wheat is cut and I've spent more hours searching and calling in the fields - with bag of tuna and pillowcase. Still no sign, but I won't give up. I'm still hopeful that someone may find him wandering and take him to a vet and get him scanned and my phone will go - it would be like Christmas x 100.
I'm so glad I have all my cats chipped as with a collar I would worry that it would fall off or that despite quick releases it could get caught up - I'm glad he is marked but not hindered.
His sister has been bringing me mice a lot since the wheat was cut - so I know there is food out there....
I'll let you know when there's any news.
Thanks for the support.

The pillowcase was a tip I read on one of the many helpful sites so that if you find wayward pussy you have some means to carry him/her home without walking around the fields carrying a cat box. Pillowcase fits in the pocket easily. Excellent idea - just wish I could find him!

Bit of news - we think he may have been seen by a reasonably near neighbour. She has had 4 Burmese herself in the past and swore she saw a burmese twice in the field outside her house. Sounded very like the missing boy, so we have traps out for him. Apparently he was sun bathing (definitely sounds like him!). So maybe he's found his way back to the right area or maybe he was always around. I'm really hoping it's him since there are no other Burmese in the area at all.
I'll keep you all posted.
If I get him back I'll put a mug shot on here of his triumphant return.

Fabulous if tantalising news - he has been spotted tonight hunting in the field next to mine - I'm away working this week but this coming weekend I will be sitting in the field at dusk for hours until he comes to me. The sighting was by a very reliable neighbour who has had 4 burmese herself in the past and knows what they look like. So 2 months of freedom and he is very close to home - I feel sure we'll get him. My Cats Protection neighbour has put all her traps out for him so fingers crossed the cooler weather may make him hungry for some nice trap cat food. So far we've caught a hedgehog who had a nice meal!!

I'm so pleased that this sighting has confirmed the previous one and he's in the same area and close and safe.

What an adventure he's having - I'll be sure to let you all know when I've got him - and I will.

Some more of his past gallery...before he took to living rough!

Thanks for the nice messages - I will be there all week from this weekend so I have plenty of time to try to find him. I know I'll find him, he loves his radiator as you can see, winter is coming, he has to go knocking on someone's door, or maybe he'll just go back into my house which will trap him - so maybe I'll find him in my bed on Friday....would be really funny.
They drive you mad with worry but I know he's alright at least....

Have spent 6 hours waiting for him in the area he was last seen, no sign yet but I'm still really hopeful. He was seen at close quarters by a reliable (Burmese knowledgeable) person grooming and sitting still so we know it was him. I think my best chance is when it cools down and the food supply lessens. We may have luck with traps then. I think he may be living in the sheep pens for my neighbours pet sheep which are lovely and dry and probably quite warm especially when the shepp are in them! I'll keep you all posted.....

could you set a trap in the pens? Perhaps if you disguise it a little with straw and put some bedding into it, he might decided it is just that little bit warmer than the open shed??

Good idea - I think he's a bit smart to go in a trap unless he can't see what it is - that might work....we caught a hedgehog!
Spent the week helping to bottle feeding 4 litters of rescue cats that my neighbour (Cats Protection Lady) currently has - fabulous - if anyone is in the East Suffolk area and wants adorable ginger, ginger and white, black, black and white, tortie kittens get in touch with Framlingham and Saxmundham CPL - they are nearly ready for homing - absolutely adorable......

The First time My Hamish went Missing, for 2 and a Half weeks, I was at my wit's end with worry
It Really is Hard with the " Not Knowing Where they're at and What has Happend to them feeling :'( :'( "
I had searched Hi and Low, Put up Posters, went Walks by myself Shouting on Him shaking the cat biscuits box
(which kinda makes u feel silly when ppl Look)
Then at the end of this time missing, there was a knock at my door?? and there stood a wee boy about 10.
His Cat was Missing too, and while he had been looking for Him, He thought He had seen my Hamish, (about half a mile away
from my Home) I Immediately went to the place where he said He had seen Him, I just Turned the corner, and there He Was
( Being Chased by a Bunch of Kids ) Oh, And the Relief to Have Him Back ;D ;D ;D
But If it wasn't for the wee boy, Who Knows if I would have ever seen Him again!!

It Is Good that People are reporting Sightings of Billy ( it probably is Him )
WE REALLY Hope you have some good news to post on here soon ;D

Keeping our fingers and paws Crossed

Misty n Stuart

What a lovely story...I'm still sure that I will have that marvellous moment when I get him back - it will be like 100 Christmases, I'm 95% sure it is him that my neighbour has seen - both her and her husband, 3 or 4 times, all their descriptions of him are very accurate and there are no other Bombays in my area at all - which is not particularly densely populated anyway, I only have 4 neighbours within 1/2 mile or so. I think he's fine and having the summer of his life - naughty naughty Button boy....he'll come in for the winter I feel fairly sure....updates pending!

Title: Re: Billy Buttons, my beautiful Bombay boy is lost, I am heartbroken

No more positive sightings but there was a weird thing that could have been him. I had workmen at the house on Monday in my absence and I always leave the flap on in only with plenty of food and water out for him.
When I got up there the trim part of the back of the catflap was off and the flap open. Now when my other cats get locked in they often scrap about and pull that part off, it doesn't normally fall off on its own. I couldn't tell whether any food had gone but I imagined an imperceptably small indentation in the pile of biscuits. Now he could have been in and got let out (or let himself out) before I got back - or ot could all be coincidence and the workmen may have dislodged it. It could also have been a visit from my neighbours cats (though this has not happened for a long long time.
Anyway I'm thinking if it was him then he knows where home is and it's only a matter of time before he comes back again for some warmth. It is still really warm so I'm praying for some cold weather it may flush him out.
Keep watching - I feel he's around still....he will come back - I know it.

Title: Re: Billy Buttons, my beautiful Bombay boy is lost, I am heartbroken
Post by: bombaycat on October 28, 2007, 16:42:58 PM
A couple of weeks ago he was seen twice by one of my neighbours hanging around her chicken coop. I was down there within 10 mins of the second sighting when she rang me and sat in a ditch for 2 hours - no sign. He really is elusive, she said he looked happy and healthy and not thin. He is very beautiful but so naughty. We put all the traps out again and got another little black female cat which unfortunately had to be put down as she had a nasty infection in her abdomen and had a damaged tail, my neighbour is with cats protection so they did all they could. We know the sightings are of Billy Buttons as the other neighbour has described him perfectly and her mother in law has also seen him before.
So I'm still playing a waiting game, it still isn't really cold at night, I'm hoping the food supply will start to run thin so he'll be more tempted to go to humans. Everyone is primed to try to get him if he allows. I'll keep you all posted.....this has to be one of the longest running nearly there's possible!

My boyfriend originally said back in July/August that I shouldn't give up until at least Christmas - and that was before all the sightings - I'm hoping he's right maybe I'll get him back for Christmas - that would be the best present ever.....not that I'll give up hope now we keep seeing him (well other people not me actually....)
he is very smart and very determined so he will do exactly what he wants - that I know.
He is also very cuddly and throws himself over onto his back with a bump when I come home normally and lets me blow raspberries on his belly - then he purrs with a really low throbbing purr he looks just like the jaguar car cat. Can't wait to do that again - although no doubt I'll have to de flea him first!

Title: Re: Billy Buttons, my beautiful Bombay boy is lost, I am heartbroken
Post by: bombaycat on October 29, 2007, 17:56:08 PM
I don't think anyone is actually deliberately feeding him as I only have 4 neighbours and they are all ace. They all have dogs and are sensible and would not encourage Billy as they all know he's missing and he's mine. Problem is they have chickens, geese, pet sheep, dogs and cats and there are a couple of lovely mouse hunting fields at his disposal....so he is probably surviving quite beautifully from hunting and scavenging.

I am patient through necessity, he is well worth the wait, I'm still really hopeful I'll get him back OK. Hopefully he'll adjust to life indoors OK, he always did love and nice radiator, perhaps a duvet to sleep on, playing with his half sister and of course his mum! And my best ally, winter, is on its way.....

I'll keep you posted - can't wait to post the return photo for you all to see him.

No sightings since mid October now - I'm thinking he's either gone further afield or has found someone to live with since it is cold now. I'm still hopefuly that he may either come back or if he goes to a vet they will scan him and ring me. Keeping hope up but trail seems to have gone cold for now.

Hi Sam (thanks for the email),
He didn't make a Christmas appearance unfortunately. No sightings
since around October however he is a very black cat in the country and it
is dark so unlikely people would see him. There was a dead black cat up
the road a bit from me last week, but my cats protection neighbour
kindly took her scanner up and it wasn't him, she had lost a rescue cat
last year so it could have been that one.
So the waiting continues, I still think he could easily be out there
if he has found shelter in the numerous out buildings
somewhere....maybe he'll appear in the Spring when the weather warms up and there's more
light so see him again. I still think he's out there.
Thanks for your wishes, it's nice to know people care.
  Julia

Hi Julia, just to let you know, we are all thinking of you and little Billy Buttons, I know how you feel my little Ruby went missing just before xmas, thankfully she returned, not a street wise cat but amazing how they manage to look after themselves, Ruby had a little potter in the garden for the first time today, she wasn't out long, but I was so nervous, sat watching her! I have a feeling your little one isn't far away, and Im sure he will be back, praying for you, and sending lots of love and support x x x

If it is any encouragement, PB found her lost baby who went missing some time ago, and he had holed up only a few gardens over. As you say, a black cat in the country in this weather is going to be hard to spot - especially if he has found himself somewhere snug to lie up over winter. Take care hun...

He wasn't seen for the first 3 months then was seen by several people so we know he can survive perfectly well and we may not see him. He is a smart little boy.
I have hope until we find a body.
In the meantime I've taught my moggie boy Scooby to sit for treats like a dog - he's very good at it.

I had no problems for 8 years in that garden - that is my london garden they all have lived happily there. It's a bit more open where Billy went missing at my other home that I am slowly in the process of moving to. He got over excited at the possibilities in the country I think. Even though he'd been visiting regularly for 18 months.
If you think Scooby is beautiful check out his brother Beeps luxuriating on my friends kitchen table (who now lives with a friend of mine as there was a lack of harmony in the house with all 4 cats) - they are both rescue cats from a baby mum only 6 months old.

strange, I pick up on little cues of body language that makes it easy to distinguish between Esther and the three other black moggies in my street. They all look identical, but she has a special way of moving that makes it dead easy to pick her when I find her down the street (where she is not supposed to go, but sometimes does).

my black brothers where quite similar but Scooby has the angel hairs on his chest about 12 white hairs (I call them angel hairs because someone told me that most black cats have a few white hairs since in the past so many completely black cats were burned due to witchcraft allegations that the ones that weren't quite black were effectively selected for genetically). Probably rubbish, but I like the name angel hairs so I'm sticking with it.

Billy Buttons was easy to spot as he's the Bombay - beautiful haughty and slightly higher at the back end (drag-cat) as Burmese often seem to be.

My CPL neighbour also loves black cats and has 4 so we had 7 between us at one point - challenging to distinguish when seen from afar!

Hi everyone,
Just to say thank you for all your nice messages. The Button boy has sadly not returned but the good news is that I have increased my cat family by two new members, Mia and Teddy. Mia is a Bombay as was Billy and Teddy is her brother (a black smoke Asian) who was given to me as a present by the breeder - thanks Olive.

So for all those interested check them out with Coco my chocolate burmese and Scooby my mog.

I will always have great memories of the 8 years I had with Billy Buttons, the first Bombay is always going to be special. In some ways at least my last memory of seeing him is him in full health dashing through the flap on a mission - better than on the vets table in many ways.

Mia is scarily fast so it'll be a challenge to keep her under control, for now she is confined to barracks as she's only a baby   :naughty:.

When you have new babies again you realise who sensible the older ones are....   ;)

Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd let you know new babies growing nicely and having fun in the country - I'm trying out flourescent collars with bells (just for when they are outside) and supervising all the time that they are out and so far it's going well. Billy Buttons may be gone but he's taught us a lesson about watching the feisty ones.
I'm investigating radio collars (GPS are too heavy for cats) - I'll let you know how I get on in case it's of interest to anyone else.
It may not be so suitable in towns and cities but in open country it should work well.

Hope everyone is well and babies happy and healthy.

Julia.

Hi Everyone,

Finally got around to this, they are much bigger now but here are some of Mia (my new Bombay) and Teddy my Asian smoke. Brother and sister although Mia is about twice as big. Coco (Billy Button's half sister) is also present in the cat pile...

Hope you like.

You guys will never believe this but Mia my baby Bombay girl has gone missing now. Last saw her Saturday going out to hunt shrews, she hasn't come back. I am totally distraught - history is repeating itself all over again in the most cruel way. She is only 17 months old and a really beautiful girl.
She is chipped and has a collar with bell (so I can hear her) on but because I live in the country it is not so likely that she'll be spotted by humans.
I've called for 4 days solid and no sign - unfortunately the damn wheat is up again so it could be the getting lost in the wheat scenario.
I am totally devastated - I just can't believe it.

Julie am so sorry.  Try not to think on history repeating (not easy I know, and I've lost two beloved cats myself so know what it's like to go through).  Keep faith, and let's hope that Mia is returned to you safe and sound.

Very difficult to cat proof garden as I'm surrounded by fields on all sides, I have been monitoring all their outside activities for over a year literally watching them every minute but recently Mia had shown some sense and seemed to come back frequently to check I was around without me watching her every second. She lives to go outside, goes mental to get out if I shut her in. It would have been more than cruelty to never let her out. I'm still a bit hopeful that she'll either find her way back or someone will find her. The microchip at least is something she can't lose. My neighbour had her Bella go for 3.5 months, so I shouldn't give up but after Billy I'm devastated.
She is so precious to me, the house seems completely empty with just 3 cats, amazing as that sounds. I would give anything to have her back anything. I cried for 4 days, I've crawled through hedges walked the fields day and night. It seems so unfair.
Thanks for all the kind thoughts.

I know sweetheart.  It's like having your heart torn out, yet finding you're still breathing.

As you say though, don't give up hope.  Take heart from your neighbour's experience.  Teresa too just recently was able to reunite a rather beautiful and vocal (cos he was deaf and lost!) ginger and white boy (Rufus)  with his real family, and he'd been missing for a number of weeks and managed to travel some considerable way.  Thanks to the microchip, they were able to get in touch with the owners, who needless to say were delighted.

Sending positive thoughts your way, and hoping you have good news to report very soon.

Still no news I'm afraid but I have a load of laminated posters to put up in the village, vets, pet shop etc. Currently only have hand written as had no printer up there. My mum has searched this morning but still no sign - even my builder sent his labourer out to look.
Will try going out with powerful torch as she was wearing a fluorescent collar - but looking for cats in huge wheat fields and miles of hedgerows is difficult.
I'm still hopeful that she may find somebody and that they will get her chip checked.
Disaster this morning when I found my friend had accidentally walked off with my mobile and was going to France for a week - but luckily will be able to return it before tonight when he goes so I don't have to worry about someone calling and me not answering....just what I needed

Still hoping she might come back - anyone got any tips for finding cats in open countryside, obviously tried shouting, food bowl clanging, searching, crawling through hedges....

Spent hours more looking for her, leafleting etc. Still no sign at all, no sightings, nothing. I can't believe that she has just disappeared as she wouldn't have access to anywhere dangerous that I can think of and I think she would have come back in the day so something must have happened in the daytime which rules out badgers and foxes etc. Nobody sets traps and nobody uses poison near us so it is a total mystery.
This is completely heartbreaking - I'd do anything to have her back, anything. I miss her so much - I have a few little videos of her even with her call and it is heart rending to see her so happy and healthy so recently.
I think her brother is missing her - he is quite subdued. They used to play "thunder cats" a lot around the house.
People keep telling me that cats can come back after a couple of weeks or even longer - but I can't feel it - I feel like she would get back to me if there was any way that she could - she was very loving and very interactive, not stand offish at all.
Please come back Mia....please.

aah, the video tapes, I still don't have the courage to watch mine of my missing Buddy, I know it will render me a useless wreck for hours and hours after.

Ps, all the photos of your cats are absolutely beautiful.

The most fantatsic news ever - MIA IS BACK!!!!

She came back at about 10:30am this morning. She is perfectly healthy, quite a bit leaner than when she went 2 weeks ago but pretty fine looking. She has been enjoying being with her brother all day and it is just such a delight to have one back after the disaster when Billy went and never returned.
She must have been lost in the wheat, she hasn't been in anyone's house or she be fatter....anyway there is no-one around here that would keep one without asking us first.

It is just so great - she's flat out on my lap right now with brother on top of her each with their heads on my arms - so typing is challenging ha ha.

I can't believe it - it is just so wonderful I never thought I'd see her again.

Good luck everyone else - don't give up hope they do come back sometimes!!

Julia.

It's just so great, these moments in life are so precious you can't make them happen and it's heartbreaking when they don't but so wonderful when they do. I really didn't think she was coming back - I was talking to my mum last night and we said it would be fantastic but we had resigned ourselves that we'd lost her.
HOW WRONG WE WERE!!!!
My birthday in just under 2 weeks - best present in the whole world.
She is my baby.
Thanks for all the support you guys are great - not everyone understands these things and it really helps to talk to people who do.
Julia.

Thanks so much - it is lovely having her back. She is very blinky (how she goes when sleepy) and her brother can't be far from her - preferably laying on top of her - which she puts up with good grace as ever. She seems to be eating insects now which presumably was part of how she survived. She must have been lost in the wheat - obviously no-one has been feeding her and she's not hurt at all. I'm amazed that she did so well as there are miles of it and it is a very unforgiving environment in the field middles - no water at all. She obviously found a hedge eventually and worked her way back - I didn't think any animal or road would get her - but I didn't know.
Makes me wonder if Billy Buttons was/is out there for some time and maybe I'll still get that call as he is chipped....you never know. Anyway we had the happy task of taking down the posters and telling everyone - my neighbours (Mrs Cats Protection) was totally chuffed as you can expect. She has about 40 homeless kittens currently from a feral lot at a chicken farm - very cool lady - does lots of good work for the furrballs.

Once again thanks for all the nice thoughts before and after her resappearence. Pilchards tonight I think now she's been eating slowly for a day she can probably take a goodie or two...she is quite slinky and thin - I can feel her spine but looks very healthy.

Mia is now back in her stride - I can let her out as the wheat is cut. She's on 3-7 shrews per weekend, Ted, her brother eats them alive - nice! She is such a beautiful little girl now I thank God every day for her return - I've kept all the text messages I sent and my friends sent back so I can go back and enjoy that moment when she returned....it's lovely.

I've tried Loc8tor tags and they work quite well if you know roughly where the cats are, I've found them in hedges etc when supervising outings (before the wheat was cut) - my nerves were shredded but I'm getting myself under control now as she has been going out solo again and seems very reliable again. I can't keep her in - she literally lives to get outside and hunt and play it would be too cruel to keep her in.

Just thought I'd let you all know how things were going.
