Hey I recently adopted a 8 week old Maine coon X sphynx kitten named Remus, I've only had him one night and for some reason he 1. Can't find the litter tray and 2. He cries when he's in their both wee and poop, I'm worried if it's a UTI as I've recently lost a cat to urinary crystal, is this just kitten behaviour or is it something to worry about?
-
He is also a very vocal kitten constant crying whrn he's not getting attention, he is also eating and drinking fine, he also doesn't seem like he's in any pain and he's not peeing or pooping outside the litter box.
-
probably missing his mum
-
So pleased you have a new addition to the family. I usually book any new cat/kitten in for a vet check as soon as we get them (I just can't resist showing them off - everywhere and to everyone :evillaugh:). They will be able to discuss any concerns with you then.
8 weeks is still very young and he may well be missing his Mum. Some cats are more vocal than others but a clean bill of health from a vet will help to allay your understandable concerns.
-
Me too, It just wasn't the same, needed a third cat again. Yea we are booking him in for his health check, for this week, im just worried that it might be serious enough to take him to a emergency vet, obviously with what happened to calcifer im more on edge with all of their toilet habits 😔
-
Try not to worry. It's all very new for him just now, and kittens will cry more when they're younger as this is the way they communicate with their Mom and littermates until they're around 4 months old. Even now our two girls are more vocal than Moray but will chirrup to him too.
-
Thank you that makes me feel slightly better, hes definitely not acting unusual, he's very playful and hungry, no signs of distress really, I hope it is just missing mum
-
If you put yourself in his paws for a second, here he is in a strange place. :shify: Different smells, different furniture, different layout - and - most of all - NO MUM!! No BRUVVAS!! NO SISTAS!! :-: :-:  :'(
You were all ready for this little chap - very excited and full of anticipation. ;D
But all he knows is that what was familiar, and family, is no more. He will come to know and love all of you in time, but just now, he needs comfort, reassurance and attention. He needs to know where he can go and poop and pee, and play. He needs to know whether the two strange other cats he can smell will eat or attack him, or whether they may be up for a spot of snuggling and playtime and showing him the ropes.
If they won't/can't snuggle just yet, then you need to be there for snuggling duties, and to show him you're his new Mummy now. I used to read fairy stories to our kittens, and make up stories with their names in them. I'd turn the lights down low, and make sure there was nothing loud on the T|V or tablet, and then hold them, stroke them and encourage general sleepiness, holding them so they'd know they were safe.
Couldn't do that with the girls of course, due to their feral streaks, but I would sit in the same room as them, lights low, and tent my knees up with a blanket over them. They would then crawl in under the blanket and go to sleep resting against my legs. As they got braver, then they'd venture up on to our laps.
The great thing about having a kitten when you have older cats too, is that they have a role model to take their lead from. As long as you take the introductions nice and steady, they have the potential to become lifelong friends. :) :)
You got any piccies of little Remus? :sneaky: :wow:
-
He is such a sweetheart already, he loves a cuddle he's been sleeping on my chest pretty much all day, I do feel sorry for him to go from so many brothers and sisters and even dad to basically nothing but me, he can see my two boys through the cat flap we installed for calcifer when he was having his problems so he could get away from everything, now lux and gizmo can see him even smell him from under the door i don't think they can wait to meet him, no hissing no growls just general interest.
Awww that sounds lovely proper cat mommy ❤ he's in a very quite room with just the extractor fan on for some white noise but he is very confident he was straight out the box when we got him home.
I can't wait for them all to be happy and loving together but we are all definitely taking it slow. I'll post some pictures soon as I need to resize them for the website aha

:Luv: :Luv: Kittens are very resilient and adaptable, especially when their new families are so open to making life special and pleasurable for them. Which you are. ;D
It's great that Lux and Gizmo aren't growling and hissing. Sounds like they're quite interested in a good way. ;D When Moray met the girls for the first time, he hissed at them but looked a bit uncertain about everything. Then he was more curious about their antics than anything else, and it wasn't very long at all after that first meeting when we let the girls out to have the run of the house - they'd been in their own room for around 2 weeks up to that point, and Moray had been able to sniff them through the gap under the door (nothing fits in our house! :evillaugh:). he would sit listening outside the door, just as Tinks used to do when we first brought Moray home.
You have so much fun to look forward to again, and I'm so pleased. I know how awful it's been for you, but now - stand back and let the games commence! ;D

Definitely i cant wait to completely spoil him aha
lux has always been fine with introductions, both with Calcifer and he is so good with Gizmo they are literally inseparable, i'm very hopefully that they'll all get along, as long as Remus is okay, cats are just very curious creatures aha that's so cute, we didn't have to wait long for Gizmo he took one look at Lux and that was it love at first sight :)
I really hope so, i just hope hes okay. It's definitely been a hard few months, I don't think I could go through it again so soon.
-
Of course it has. It was a wretched time for you all.
I'm sure Remus is absolutely perfect, just feeling a bit disoriented and confused. He'll be bombing round with the boys in no time. ;)
-
:Luv2: Just seen his piccies (am using phone so not so good for tripping!)
What a little belter. ;D. Just wait until Rosella claps eyes on him. A proper Hauspanther.
-
:Luv2: those little black squishbean toes!! ;D
-
Hehe isn't he just a cutie, the bowl is bigger than him lol
He's currently attacking my laptop lol 😂
-
I thought that about the bowl too. A valiant attempt on his behalf. :evillaugh:
-
he looks very cute, you forget how tiny they are - I'm sure he'll settle
-
I don't know about Sphynx, but Maine Coons are a very vocal breed anyway, he may just be giving a running commentary. :evillaugh: I have had two and they will 'chat' and chirrup for Britain.
I am sure that he will be fine, although I understand your concerns.   If you are too worried perhaps you could bring his kitten check forward, although personally I would give him time to settle before being out into a carrier into another strange place. Let him get to know you. :Luv:
He is a little cutie, make the most of it, he'll be growing into those puddy paws soon. ;D
-
I do hope so, like I said it doesn't seem like his in pain but obviously he can't tell me that other than crying, but he finally found the litter box about half an hour ago and went for a wee by him self still crying though.
Yea we want him to be settled before going to see the scary vet, he's booked in for this Saturday we asked the receptionist for their advice and they didn't seem to worried just told us to keep an eye on him.
I wish they stayed little forever lol 😂
-
What a handsome little chap :)
-
:Luv2: those little black squishbean toes!! ;D

What is about little black tittentats? They are without doubt the most beautiful creatures on earth :catluv:
He is a such a love. Hope all goes well with his vet check. As long as eating, drinking, peeing and pooing .... that's a good start
-
Remus is gorgeous :catluv:
-

-
Hey everyone thanks for your replies :Luv: Remus has now had a name change lol he's now called Loki cause he's a little trouble maker
I changed his litter over yesterday to a clumping Clay litter which he seems to be getting on better with, turns out he didn't really like the wooden litter we use for our other two, he still cries some times but it when he just gets in there and is trying to find a spot to do his business, when he eventually find a spot he's quiet, plus everything is still normal still weeing, pooping and eating lol not drinking a lot though but he is on wet food atm I've been adding extra water to it just so I know he's getting fluids.
Aha I'll be keeping a close eye on him, I'll know who to talk to if he mysteriously disappeared
-
A little Mischief God eh? :evillaugh: I am glad he is settling a bit.
-
Sounds like he's doing just fine to me. :Luv: Mischief Monkey, eh? :evillaugh: Oh Lux, Gizmo - you have no idea what is waiting for you. ;)
-
Please be careful using a clumping clay litter on such a young kitten, they are still tempted to eat litter that young and clumping clay can cause serious issues.

Thank you for the warning, I actually misread the packaging anyway, it's not clumping litter it's non clumping.
-
Lux and Gizmo definitely are in for a big suprise, he's a crazy little boy lol
-
I think that added water to his food had helped a lot hes now going to the toilet with no problems and no crying.
-
Really good news. ;D ;D ;D
-
What I love about this forum is how we live and learn - I had no idea about that with clumping clay litter - we've always used Catsan clumping for ours, even when they were wee kitties. Thankfully, we've not had any kitties eat the litter - phew! :-[
-
Loki is an absolute belter! :Luv2: He would fit in beautifully with my 2 all blacks :car: :naughty:
-
Elsa knocked over the RC Kitten dry food the other night and it fell in the litter tray. We use chick crumbs for litter which clumps rather well. I scooped out the food but either there were little bits of kibble left or just the smell and Elsa started to munch from the tray!!! :scared: :scared:
I had to chuck the whole lot out which was quite a bit as it was naturally the jumbo sized tray but can't have our Elsa eating clumpy litter.

Trying to build a rugby team are we Lyn?
-
I used the term deliberately - but I'm not sure I could cope with 15 of them in this little flat!
-
He's a little belter alright!
Love the term poo mew! Kito tends to give a little cry when he's using the tray. He likes the world to know what he's up to and doing a poo is worthy of a big announcement in his book.
-
Yep he's just a toilet talker, he likes to let us know he's going and when he's in there, he's been seen by a vet twice and there's nothing wrong with him at all, he's just being vocal lol
