Title: Parki off for dental today
Post by: alisonandarchie on September 04, 2015, 07:27:22 AM
Just feeling terrible as my lovely, gentle, trusting 15 yr old girl is off for a dental in less than an hour.

She is really hungry and I am very tearful.

She has a heart murmur so the vet will do an echocardiogram first and also blood tests.

Despite his caution I am so worried she will not be ok :(

Wish it was me and not her

Aaw Alison     I'm sure she'll be just fine and will feel so much better for it in a day or too.

I sooo understand the worry though.  Chin up and keep calm.  She'll be back in your loving care before you know it.

Let us know how she gets on.

xxx

Everyone, thank you so much for your kind thoughts

I had terrible trouble getting Parki into her cage this morning and she was digging into the carpet :( She just knew

Just phoned the vets and she is coming round well but has not got many teeth left :(

I can pick her up after 4 this afternoon so can't wait.

How do cats manage with few teeth and do they have a special diet

I think the gums sort of seal up Alison, none of mine seem to chew food anyway, maybe parki is a bit more refined but I'm sure she will manage

Good news, Alison.  Cats without teeth cope well.  Pad had to have a load of his out when he was around the same age as Parki.  The gums heal and harden, and they can gum away at food quite easily in a relatively short while.   Paddy used to eat wet and nibbles without difficulty.

I remember when Paddy had his dental.  We went to collect him and he was soooo wobbly when we let him out, but he was determinedly making a beeline for the back door.  I was reluctant to let him out, but he wailed so pitifully, I did.  He wobbled out onto the patio, and flopped through the hole in the gate onto the field with me in pursuit.  He then collapsed on the grass, and just lay there, taking in the greenery and the air on his whiskers.  He had a little sickie, and then he looked at me as if to say "S'okay - we can goes back indersides now...."    :Luv:

I've probably missed you Alison but, if not, you may want to pick up a tin of AD when collecting your lovely girl

  for you, Alison and Parki.

Lulu could still eat crunchies and she didn't have many teeth. Most of the time she just swallowed them whole though  ;D

Many thanks

Not long brought Parki home after long chat with vet nurse who was great.

Parki has two teeth left on op sides of her mouth, one canine and one molar. Her echocardiogram showed a good blood flow round the heart and her blood tests were fine. Cause she was 15 they put her on a drip during the op.

She ate a bit there and has just almost wolfed down a whole pouch of Royal Canine sensitive they gave me to take home  She is now having a bit of a wash. I noticed she was eating stangely but has had an anti inflame and antiobiotic jab.

Soooo pleased to have her home ;D

Sorry only just come on and so pleased she is OK

Sasa only has two teeth left but on same side but she eats just as she used to and suspect swallows the biscuits. Parki may dribble a bit, Sasa does.

I remember Kocka coming home and she made a beeline for the small top window in the bathroom as cat flap was shut. It then confirmed how she used to break in when she was new to me!

I like Sue had to let her out cos she was going crazy and needed to check her garden  ;D

Thank you so much

Yes I am very relieved and have had a few drinks this evening :shy:

Parki is doing so well and has eaten quite a bit :shify: I was worried at first but she has not been sick. She has also drunk plenty and been for a wee :)

Parki has not wanted to go out so far :)

Will watch out for the dribbling :shify: I caught her about to eat Archie's biscuits and whisked them away as her gums will be delicate :shify:

Toby has very few teeth left. Just the ones at the front but he manages very well, in fact he still loves his biscuit  :evillaugh:
