Title: Now its getting a bit hot
Post by: hollycat on June 30, 2015, 14:45:14 PM

Now it's getting hotter, don't forget our furry fiends. Put extra water down for them and provide somewhere cool for them.
My two are not doing much during the day just lying around like wet lettuces  they perk up when/if it cools down at night, early hours

I've got 2 fans going, ice cubes in their water fountain and a cool mat down for the fluffy one (not that she has the brains to lie on it.......)
My 4 are in various stages of slob throughout the house!!!!

Did you mean furry fiends?????  :naughty: :naughty:

Alfie's struggling, Cleo seems to be coping better despite being fluffy. I occasionally wipe Alfs down with wet hands but I'm not sure whether that makes me feel better than him! I haven't heard of a cool mat - will go and have a look on-line.

Do you have any of those ice packs, the ones used in cool boxes? If you do, put them in a plastic bag then put in Alfie's bed

At the moment it's 32 outside and 28 inside. Astrophe and Zoonie want to play but give up after a minute or two and crash out. Not eaten much either except a few dreamies  ;D

Good idea Holly, I know I used to have a couple of these, will go and have a look.

Another idea, put Alfie's bed in a bag then pop in the freezer for a bit. Worth a try  ;D

Nice and cool here  ;D  It may be 30+ outside but one of the advantages of having trees front and back is that it doesn't get hot inside.  It doesn't get very light inside either but on days like today I'm more than happy with that.  I came home at lunchtime (left a pan on the hob this morning and filled the flat with smoke - was worried about the boys as I couldn't go to work and leave windows open) and Mosi was on the bed and Kito curled up in a cat bad.  They're not feeling the heat too much!

I have to close the blinds from about 2pm as the sun streams in until about 7pm and it gets really hot. Astro and Zoonie are just daft enough to lie in the window baking. Even with the windows open it's hot.

No problem here, think we must be the coolest place in UK. Strong wind keepind temps down although forcast tomorrow even makes Cardiff only 20 so we will proberly be about 12!

I hate this godforsaken place

It was still 25c when I came home an hour ago. We too have trees front and back, so it does help a bit but all I want to do is lollop around my nightie.

I tried putting Alfie's bed in the freezer but it didn't stay cold for long. I have opened the door of the shower cubicle as he sometimes likes to play in there and it should be cooler. I have also ordered on of the self-cooling pads, I expect temperatures will be back down into single figures before it arrives!

Poor Alfie, I know exactly how he feels.

Still about 26 outside and 28 in here

No problems for the cats here. Living in an ancient barn has its advantages. Really thick walls helps keep the place cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. Step outside though and you fry!

Glasgow is about 70 farenheit , it will get much hotter later today. It's such a cold dark place in the winter months it's nice to see some daylight and warmer weather. Very fond of Glasgow though. My billy sits on window sills getting plenty fresh air .

I have a quiet day planned, not going out anywhere, so have not even bothered to get dressed, still swanning around in my nightie  :-[  Cleo is at the bottom of my bed whereas she would usually be on my lap. Not sure where Alfs is, hope he has found himself a cool spot somewhere.

Very strange weather all over the place. 23 degrees here and thunder with spots of rain. My sister in Caterham Surrey 31 degrees and hot sun. My other sister in Plymouth storms and only 18 degrees. madness.

Think we may be in for some of that,  you can smell it in the air,  not to mention the big black clouds heading this way

It was 35 when I got to my car after work today.  As I got moving that dropped to 33.  Very sticky.  They say a storm is brewing and I hope so as we need some rain to clear the air.  why can't we have normal summer?!  Just hot and sunny instead of this horrible cloudy but hot and humid weather.  We go from so cold I need the heating on straight to this.

I have one of those cooling gel packs as well, my dog prefers to put his head on it when he sleeps.  LOL!

It's a mighty 36.7 here in London and it was 96 in the shaded back garden, so way hotter then that out the front.  Luckily for us we don't get any sunshine in the house so relatively cool, but it does mean we freeze in winter.

Thunder & lightning just started. No rain yet but surely it will come

We're on our boat on the Shropshire Union Canal and I was out on deck earlier watching the lightening in the distance and listening to the thunder getting closer.  It's over the top of us now and chucking it down so I've had to come in.

The dynamic duo are flat out on the floor after a very hot day spent mostly in the undergrowth where it was cooler (them not us  :evillaugh: although if I could have got in there with them I would have done  :innocent: ).  Needless to say we've not made much progress because we have to keep them shut in when we're on the move and that would be cruelty in this weather because we've no air con, no fans and no freezer to cool things in for them (or us).

well that was a let down.  Lots of lightning, rumbles of thunder then it poured.  For about 5 minutes  :shify:  Can't imagine that did a whole lot of good.  I can tell already, even in my cool flat, that it's going to be another muggy day.  I hope I'm wrong.

Pouring down here. Just managed to get a ride on Drummer in before the heavens opened. For me great. I won't have to water the neighbours garden. This lot haven't got a hosepipe and I have to cart water a long way for a lot of plants. And I don't even get a postcard, and rarely a thank you  from them. They tell me I should be grateful for the exercise. So thank you rain God.
Julie.

Same here, but today's rain has more than made up for it.  I let the cats out first thing and Biggles went AWOL, not returning until the rain started at mid-day. It hasn't stopped since and we  got  soaking wet on our journey despite the waterproofs, while the cats sat cuddled up on the bed in the dry.  If we get a second crack at life I'm coming back as a cat.

Wow what a difference two days make. Cloudy  with meatballs  spots of rain and the temperature has gone from 32 on Tuesday to 17 today. Much better for me and the boys  ;D ;D

It was much cooler and grey here this morning. Became quite humid after lunch and we had some rain. The sky is now bleu and it's warming up again. Alf was initially suspicious of his mat, which arrived this morning, he is now sleeping on it (it's in his bed) but it doesn't feel particularly cool to me?

plenty of rain today and we were all in the same boat at work (pun intended  ;)) - didn't think to bring a coat!  It's dropped to about 17 but I can feel it warming up again.  At least I won't have to go out and water the pots tonight.

Kito enjoyed the lightning yesterday.  He sat on the window sill watching it.

It was yuk this morning as still hot and humid and I was at a branch library with no air con.  Customers were sat there mopping their brows and asking us how we cope!  The staff room is on the first floor and the corridor up there has huge glass windows and glass ceiling.  That don't open.  As you got to the top of the stairs you were hit by a wave of humid heat.  Yuk.  Staff room was marginally cooler as it has windows that can be opened.

It was 30c+ here at lunchtime, no mugginess though, so that helped.
