I've been looking on RSPCA site for 2 oldies and I adore Liberty and Patch but I was told today that they do not think they will get on.

It's Halifax that I deal with Gill. Huddersfield joined in with Halifax Centre a few years agolike the hospitals did, don't know why, never asked.
All I know about the pair coming in is that they were left outside a vet in a cat carrier and are 14 and 15 years old.
When I get back from my 2 nights B&Bbreak I will be putting new batteries in my camera :rofl: :hug:

How lovely of you to want to take in some oldies Mary. :hug: Good luck. Your local RSPCA branch sounds to be a lot more caring than many who don't really try to home or foster oldies.

They are brill Carol and so lucky to have so many fosterers and such good staff.
They are always walking the dogs andiin Winter the dogs are behind reception andinthe offices by theradiators. There is always someonein the catpens stroking and playing with the cats.
I really can't wait to have more info about them andget them settled in my house.

Their vet is with them now checking everything.
2 girls aged 15, 1 tortie and 1 white tortie. I've asked Annette totake a photo for me.
Wish I wasn't going away now but I do need a break.

the girls have seen the vet they are called Tisha and Kitty. Tisha is fine she just needs to be spayed. We have done bloods on kitty so need to wait for the results to come back. she had a very fast heart beat so Eddie just wants to check it and she needs a dental.
I am on a course tomorrow so i will be able to tell you more on wednesday.

They were the names on the chips. Kitty is the all tortie and Tisha is the one with white on her.
So, I think I should keep their names as at their age they might ignore new names.
I wonder if they like Dreamies? ;)

Mary the age might be on the chip. But if so, how accurate is it. Grace came from the cats protection. If her age was on there it would have been ten as that was what was on her details. I have had her ten years now, but I'm pretty sure she can't be twenty. The best thing is to ask the shelter how they know they are fifteen.

15 years is a long time not to ne neutered and wonder how accurate ...............suppose could be the date of the chip.

That's what I wondered but apparently so. Cats don't have a menopause like we do and go on reproducing all their life :Crazy: although they obviously become less fertile with age. The main reason for doing it is to reduce the risk of pyometria which can be fatal and is more common in elderly unspayed cats.

Because they need to have another vet check next week they are being fostered by a staff member. Linda is emailing me with any updates.

Hmmm, I know you can if they are in the rescue but I don't think I want to. If I meet them and then anything goes wrong I will be so upset and don't need any more upset at the moment. I know I should be thinking 'half glass full' but after what I've been through this year I'm very cautious.

Mary I understand how you feel. I would be worried about getting fond of them, and then the hurt of not being able to have them if something goes wrong. Better to wait a bit longer until you know you can have them for keeps.

I agree with Julie, I think, and it is absolutely up to you, that I would not want to bond and then find out that for some reason I could not take them home.
We all know how much you want this to be. :hug:, please don't invest yourself too much too soon :hug: :hug: :hug:. You have had too much hurt this year already.
Saying that, they are smashing cats and I really hope that they work out for you. We all know that you will be enslaved in about oooh -0.5 seconds, if that :rofl:

Don't be sorry :hug: 99% of the time that is a brill idea and it's something they actually do at the Halifax Branch. At the moment I'm the 1% it's not good for ;)
I presume Tisha has had her op as the vet said she was ok for it on 20th April. It's not that I don't care about her but my thoughts are more on Kitty at the moment with her high heart beat. If they were here with me I would have one at one side of me and the other at my other side and plenty of kisses and Dreamies ;) :hug: :Luv2:

Similar thing with me and Bonnie as most of you know. I said Iwould foster a cat, went to the RSPCA on the Friday and gave them my cat carrier and they brought it in to the Reception area and Bonnie was in it.
Didn't get a proper look at her until I let her out at home and the rest is a very lovely history :Luv2: :hug:

Here's the latest email from RSPCA:
Kitty has now seen the vet, and is doing well. We have looked into her notes and the good news is, she has already been spayed, so we won't need to do that procedure.
The vet would like her to stay on some thyroid tablets for a further two weeks, and then we can do another blood test. If all is well, we can go ahead and give her a dental and an ears flush.
Kitty was really good for the vet - bless her! I hope you don't mind waiting a bit longer for them both - they are definitely worth the wait.

I never thought I would be wanting to clean out litter trays etc. as much as I do now :evillaugh:
I have 2 trays ready for them and all the cat dishes I have ae all clean and waiting to be full of food and water.
Blankets, cat beds, my bed etc. are all waiting to be laid on ;) :hug: :Luv2:
The most important things like the camera and my 100% love are definitely ready :Luv2: :hug: :Luv:
However, I am so glad that they take the time tomake sure they are as well as they can possibly be before they let them go to their forever home.

Us crazy cat ladies aren't complete with at least one cat around. I remember a few years ago when I didn't have a cat for the first time every. My husband commenting that my only real ambition was to get another cat. He knows me so well.

We were cat free for a few months after Punky died at the age of 20 - we got her and her brother (who died the previous year) at the age of 7 weeks. I had promised hubby that I wouldn't get another cat straight away but I was soooo unhappy without at least one. Then Alfie turned up on our doorstep :briggin:

We lost Cidie and Kennedy within 6 months of each other which was devastating however the house and our hearts felt empty without a cat in them so were down the rescue centre within a week. We went for one cat but well....you know....Callie and Monty were inseparable! :Luv: :Luv:

I know how hard it is to be cat free for a time. I lost our last cat Chloe 6 years ago to a brain tumour. My Asthma has since got worse, so now I doubt if I could have a kitty, and I at least need to do a series of cat tests first (I'm not allergic). I do have my Cairn x who grew up with cats, so is very cat like. It still doesn't feel the hole of a cat though. I just get pleasure from watching cat videos on You Tube, and finding more about cats on Pinterest.
I can't wait for you two get your two new kitties, it's going to be so exciting.

I've never waitedfor something as long as this before but at least I'll be happy knowing they are both healthy when they get here.
I so miss having a kiss and cuddle before going to sleep and even being woke up during the night.
I've been thinking of getting a new bed, maybe I should get a king size now I'm getting 2 cats :evillaugh:

Had another email from Linda thismorning:
Tisha is the most confident, so she likes to take over the sofa! Kitty might like one of the hooded beds to start with, (or even a cardboard box) as she may take a little longer to relax in a new home. She will probably hide somewhere at first.
I haven't seen them cuddling up together, but they seem perfectly happy in each others company. When I first brought them here, they were in the same basket in the car and they were fine - no hissing or anything like that.
I have put down two large litter trays for them, and they are happy to use them - no accidents yet!
They have never tried to go outside. I think they would enjoy being in your company, and would just sit on the windowsill and look out.
As they are two lovely oldies, they probably don't play as much as a younger cat would, but I have still put some toys down for them if they want to play - ping pong balls and toy mice.
Kitty is seeing the vet on Monday to have another blood test, so I will let you know as soon as we get the results back.

Blood test Monday, results on Tuesday and then the dental and ear wash so fingers crossed it all happens quickly. Mind you, I have ordered a new bed and yes, I wentforthe king size for extra room for us all and it's not coming until the 1st June.

Denzel & Dexter have never really snuggled together since they were really small, as long as they get on thats the main thing.
I think you often find with pairs there is one thats really confident and hopefully Tisha will help Kitty to relax if she is more reserved x

It's an unwritten rule that cats always lie across the bed and so take up way more room than if they lay the other way.

This is the email I received yesterday so if all goes well today, they might just keep her another week for her mouth to heal:
The cats were dumped because the owner passed away and the daughter didn’t know what to do with them, unfortunate but at least they are going to have a wonderful life with you now.
Kitty will be kept on the vidalta once she is adopted and will need to stay on that for the rest of her days I think, this will help manage it.
When I said the bloods came back fine I was meaning she was ok for the anaesthetic for her dental. We will go thorough everything to do with her medical when you adopt her. It’s a bit difficult at the moment as she is still on-going with treatment, but as soon I know I will let you know.
Kitty’s Blood results have come back fine. Kitty is going up for her dental and ears flushing tomorrow.
After Kitty has had her dental she should not need any further treatment for that once her mouth has healed.
Her ears may be an ongoing thing, they may need drops to maintain clean ears, but we will know more after they have been flushed.

It's been a long wait for you Mary. But will be well worth it to have had the old girls properly checked out and treated.

The thing is, when I got Bonnie from them she had received all her care and had everything done and I could get her straight away.
Also, with me being a volunteer for them and doing the home checks for the cats I know what they have to go through tomake sure the cats are ok to go. It's really good that they do all this but I must admit my patience is being tested but it will all be wrth it when I'm cuddled up to them next week. Our king size bed will be here on Monday 1st June so I'll be getting that ready for us all :hug: :rofl: :Luv2:

Had a call from the vet assistant this afternoon and she said that Kitty was having her dental. She said the reason for the ear wash was because she was so timid they didn't want to put drops in and clean them so they are doing it when she is under the anaesthetic having her teeth done. She will let me know tomorrow what she had done. She will be on anti-biotics for a week and then see the vet again next Tuesday or Wednesday. So it looks like it might be the back end of next week when I become a mum again ;)

Why don't you book a cheeky couple of nights' B&B while you're waiting for your girls? Make the most of your free time before you're a full-time slave again!

Was thinking of going away for a few days but can't really afford to spend money on that cos just bought a king size bed which arrives next Nonday and had to buy new duvet and sheets and a couple of duvet covers to go with it :rofl:

Many years aho I used to be part of various canasta groups and in one of them i ran ganes and some one used that cat in the hammock as my signature, cant for the life of me remember the music that was put to it ;D ;D

I had two from being kittens for a full thirteen years, then nearly five more years until June 2006 , when bully went at nearly eighteen. Billy came in eight weeks later at two months old. He is still here. Wonderful experience to have both of those cats. You should enjoy it very much. :hug: :hug:

Kitty’s operation went well she had quite a lot of teeth removed and is on some antibiotics. She is doing fine so far, she is due to be checked next week so once she has seen the vet I will keep you posted.

If kitty was going under GA anyway makes sense to do her ears at the same time.
We quite often get cats at Westgate Ark whose owners have passed away, the families arent always in a position to give them a home. Much better I think to find a home where they will be loved and appreciated than one that may not be suitable...

Tisha has to have a supplement for her arthritis every day.
Kitty - her mouth is ok after having a lot of teeth removed. Her ears had some tiny [pollops which they removed but can come back so I have to give her ears a treatment to loosen wax. There's also a tablet every day for her heart and thyroid to keep it at bay. She will have to have her bloods done every 3 months to make sure she's ok. I'll get in to a routine with it all and I'll be fine.

I've been told Kitty is a bit timid but after everything she's been through I'm not surprised. It will be quiet and comfy here so hopefully she will adapt soon.
Plenty of beds, toys etc. from when Bonnie was here cos she was over spoilt ;) :innocent:
WhenI find out what stuff they like I might buy them something new, although a lot of toys I have are new and never got around to giving them to Bonnie cos she had too many :evillaugh:

A massive thank you to you all. I'm actually sat here with butterflies.
Not been given an exact time, just like waiting for a ruddy parcel BUT much more exciting.
When I got Bonnie I was really lucky cos I let her out of the cat carrier and I sat on the settee and she walked around the room and then the kitchen and then came up on the settee with me. The rest is history :hug: :Luv2:
As they are sisters at least I know they are gonna be ok with each other, just me to get used to ;)

Their driver is really busy this morning - should be about a hour.
They are sending their meds and all paperwork with Alan as they know me very well and had Bonnie from them so a waste of their time coming to talk through the adoptions when I know it all.

Alan let them out of the cage and Kitty, the white and tortie looked around the room and then jumped on my knee and purred away like mad when I stroked her. She is very big and quite heavy but no ne's said anything about her weight.
Taken a pic of Kitty eating her food but can't catch her any where else at the mo. Beautiful markings.
No idea about Tisha as she ran upstairs straight aaway.

Dexter isn't overweight at all, but it feels like he weighs double Denzel when you pick him up!

Evie likes going to my parents for Sunday lunch, but one week I thought I would try Denzel - all she did was hide behind the settee, yet she is the most cuddly cat with me out of the 3. I just heard the floor boards in the spare bedroom but I've shouted their names and no sign. With my arthritis and my sciatica I can't be going up and downstairs to find them or get on the floor. I will just have to wait.

It will take time Mary as you know. They have had so much upheaval in their lives lately. It may be an idea to confine them to one room until you get to know each other and they start feeling more confident?

Kitty appeared about 10 minutes ago. She was under the sofa bed in the living room :hug:
I put water and some Gourmet Perle prawn food in the living room for them. Kitty had a few mouthfuls earlier and she's just gone over to it now and only had a smell of it. I was told they were both eating anything but I think I've found somet she doesn't like.
She's sitting next to meon the settee and she keeps trying to get on my knee. I was told she likes her cuddles ;D :hug: She keeps wagging her tail even when she's laid on my chest and purring, I guess it's cos she ain't quite sure I'm not the enemy yet ;)
I've just realised I've left my ruddy camera upstairs >:( I'll get it later.

I think given their age, and given they've not had huge exposure to you previously (for very sound reasons) they're doing very well. You all are. The more you leave them to get on with it, the more curious Tisha will hopefully become. :hug: :hug:

Don't worry, they'll get their appetites back once they've settled down. I kept my girls in the spare room for 24 hours and they didn't eat till we'd gone to bed.

Even Kito headed for what he thought was a dark corner when I brought him home and opened the carrier. He spent a couple of hours behind some files but curiosity got the better of him in the end. Whoever is hiding, she will come out eventually. She just needs to do it in her own time.

Well, it's been confirmed, the white and tortie is Tisha :rofl: :Luv2: :hug: She's been really good today, eating more food and she even sat and had a good wash, I think I've heard that means they are more secure?
Kitty is still in hiding :( Couldn't find any tuna in my cupboard but I have some boxes with food in that I brought from my mum's and sure that there's some in there - I look tomorrow. I put some ham in the spare bedroom with the water I left yesterday at about 3.00 p.m. this afternoon but it's not been touched as yet.
Managed a few pics but not right good, tried a few times and she ruddy moves :rofl:

I got up at 10.00 a.m. and after about 30 minutes Tisha decided to come from under the sofa bed and then she had something to eat. Since then she's been sat on the back of the sofa looking out of the window. I mustmake some room on the window sill for her.

Sounds like things are going well. Given their ages and the fact that they've had a lot of change lately they are doing great - exploring you and the house and familiarising themselves with every thing. Yes, Tisha is getting hers which is for her arthritis but Kitty isn't which I was thinking about today and contacted the vet assistant, Jutta. Kitty's meds are a tablet each day for her thyroid and heart and the other is a drop in her ears just once a month so that is ok.
Jutta said that missing some of her tablets is ok for a short while and to see how she comes on over the weekend and get back to her.
Not seen her at all today or tonight and can't leave it out in some food as Tisha might eat it unless I close the living room door at night and leave Kitty's food and tablet upstairs which is where I think she is hiding but not certain.
Cats, who'd have 'em? :innocent:

They are keeping you occupied. :rofl: It takes a good wee while to figure out two cats personalities and what they expect of you . My last two came as kittens so they knew who was boss in the house from day one. Usually our yorkie terrier in those days. :hug:

I reckon these two ladies have seen a lot of change in the most recent years of their lives, and they have no idea what's going on really. It will take time for them to adjust, and the good thing is, you know all that stuff, and will give Kitty the time and space she needs. :hug: :hug:
I was going to suggest a session with the flying frenzy or Da Bird too - maybe not the leaping and jumping games of a younger cat, but the tantalising wiggle and twitch a more genteel and mature lady may prefer?

If Kitty ventures downstairs, maybe confine her to there for the day so she gets used to your company???

Mary it's going to take time. The medication problem is a worry. But it's early days yet. What's that saying. "Keep calm and carry on." You'll get there Mary. It's just different from having dear old Bonnie around. One day at a time. Keep us posted. We all feel the old ladies are part of our own family and look forward to the time when they are settled and feel comfortable in their forever home with you guarding over them.

About 1.00 a.m. this morning both of them appeared from behind the sofa bed. Tisha ate and then jumped on the sofa and got in one of the beds. Kitty played for about 1 hour and then I went tobed.
Got up about half a hour ago and Tisha still in the cat bed and Kitty came from behind the sofa bed.
This sounds like it might be progress.

I think Kitty looks a lot younger than Tisha but no idea if she really is. She makes me laugh cos she sits at my feet and she looks me right in the eyes and gives the quietest meow I've ever heard :Luv2: :hug:

Great news Mary. Not having a cat for about 8 years I have to put up with dog snores, thumbs in the back from paws wanting more space and the noisey moving around the bedroom to settle down. This usually happens about 2am in the morning, and he always lays across the doorway so I fall over him in the night if I need the bathroom. His a small terrier so my like an adoptive cat.
My last cat Chloe loved head bonks, and face swipes in the early hours, if she didn't meow her head off bringing in a live mouse which she then released in the early hours for Mummy to catch. The cat before her, Splodge, would sit on my face as her perch to watch life going past out the window. :rofl: Both bonkers Tuxedos.

Bought a new rug for my living room about 4 weeks ago but not put it down yet as I need to give my carpet a good vac and my vacuum cleaner died on me the other week. Just ordered a new one from Asda and it should be here by Friday.
So I'll have a clean room with a new rug and maybe that will encourage them to stay out of hiding ;)

Cats have been banned from my bedroom since Salmissra (my Burmese python) got big enough to punch her way through the vivarium to get to them, she got very interested. ;).
BF can't cope with the fur so my kids are confined to downstairs. They have the run of the living room, dining room and kitchen at night, and obviously, the whole house during the day. I do miss kitty cuddles at night though. Trouble always used to sleep under the duvet with me, with his head using my arm as a pillow :Luv2:

I'm back and guess who's been sleeping in my bed?
Tisha has done 3 nights in a row BUT she doesn't take the bed over, she takes ME over :evillaugh:
She loves laying on me and I know I'm not gonna get any sympathy cos I've been praying for them to come to bed with me :rofl:
She's going to see the vet on Thursday cos she's always slavering from the right side of her mouth and won't let me look. Don't know if it's connected but I've never seen her have a wash :Crazy: Also her claws are very long and some are turned under and she keep catching them on me, bedding and carpet and don't want her to hurt herself. I'm not sure she's having a poo either. She's eating and drinking ok and having a wee.
Kitty still spends most of her time behind the sofa bed but last night she stayed pout for about a hour.

Lovely that Tisha is sleeping on the bed (or rather on you). You'll get no sympathy from me because Kito likes to lie on me rather than beside me! Kitty may always be more reserved or she may just need a bit more time to come out of her shell. It sounds like she's gradually getting used to you and a new place.

More pics of the ladies - one of Kitty NEXT TO the bed and one of Tisha on my shoulder, she jumps up all the time and would stay there for hours if I let her.
The vet saw Tisha on Thursday and she has a big growth under her tongue. I've booked her in for a biopsy on Monday so they know what they are dealing with.
I pray to God it will be ok, I've had enough this year.

Mary I am so sorry to read of Tisha's lump. Such a worry for you. I have found vets are not very thorough. And useless at diagnosis. I am sure there are some wonderful vets out there dedicated to their job. I just haven't had the luck to ever come across one. My last dog came to me from Dogs Trust. Along with stitches from being spayed that were four months old. The skin had grown completely over them. It was just lucky that I found a sharp end scratching my hand when I ran my hand over her tummy. When I phoned them and told the Dogs Trust, I was told they are very busy and things sometimes get missed. To be fair, not the vets fault that time for a change. It was the people working at the dogs Trust.

You would have thought the fosterer would have noticed the drooling, unless it has only just started. Westgate Ark took in a cat not so long ago from a national rescue. He had been in an RTA and the vet had missed that he had a broken jaw >:( >:( >:( Said charity then would do nothing to help out a very small local charity with vet treatment to have it fixed >:( >:( >:(
I really hope everything turns out to be ok for Tisha, I know its more easily said than done, but try not to worry - I am sure theres numerous things it could be :hug: :hug:

I trust Eddie 100% and think the lump came whenshe was being fostered. I guess if she was working full time and not letting Tisha go to bed with her she will not have noticed anything wrong. It took me a few days to put 2 and 2 together.
I slept in this morning, phoned the vet and was told it would be ok for me to be a bit late. However, Tisha was being a naughtie Tortie and kept running away from me.I had to phone them back and re-arrange for Wednesday morning. Will make sure I get up early and be sneakie with Tisha ;)

Vet just phoned and he hasn't taken a biopsy cos he can see it's grown so much since he last saw her and it's eaten away at half of her tongue. So he is letting her go. :( :-[
I can't believe how upset I ma after only having her for 3 weeks. she was a gorgeous girl and so loving.
They are bringing her home to me tomorrow so I can bury her in my garden.

The vet saw her last Thursday when I thought it was all going wrong and asked me to bring her in for a biopsy. Eddie is 100% a fantastic vet.
I went to bed this morning after posting about Tisha. I got up about 5.00 p.m. and Kitty came out for something to eat and then went back to her fave spot.
I had a Tesco delivery at 7.30 p.m. and made myself a chicken sarnie. Kitty came out and sat at my feet meowing so Igave her a lot of chicken and then she laid on the floor for about 1 and 3/4 hours. Not sutre if it's cos it's hot or cos she knows I'm upset or what? A bit of everything probably.

Oh Mary I'm so sorry to hear about Tisha. :hug: :hug: :hug: You must be feeling heartbroken, angry, desolate, abandoned, any number of exhausting emotions. It's precious little comfort at the moment but hang on to the thought that gave Tisha the most wonderful gift possible, that of love. It was only for a short time but she will have known it and felt secure in your care. As for Kitty, she may blossom as an only cat; I hope she does. Some do after a lifetime of playing second fiddle to a more demonstrative sibling and there is nothing more rewarding than the first signs of trust and affection from a timid cat.

I'm glad kitty is getting more confident. Amber did after mogs died and is another self feeding tortie. I sellotaped the insides of toilet rolls into a pyramid and hide treats in them for her to hook out. :hug:

An even bigger surprise this morning :wow: :wow:
She came out from the sofa bed and went for a poo followed by somet to eat and then sat at my feet having a wash and purring her head off. She kept looking up at my knee so I called her up and tapped my knee for about 20 minutes.
Finally she grabbed hold of the settee arm and tried to climb up but she got a few claws caught and I lifted her bum on to my knee but when I tried to get her claws unattached she jumped down. No hissing or anything and she sat there for aboutanother 5 minutes before she went behind the sofa bed again :evillaugh:
On Monday she will have been with me 6 weeks so I suppose she's doing ok after all she's been through. Can't wait forher to find my bed :hug: :Luv2:

She has also been looking out of the window at the birdies in the trees.
She really needs her claws trimming but I don't want her to hate me after getting so far. She has to have blood tests to see if the thyroid tablets are doing the job every 3 months and is due in August so I'll get the vet assistant to do them for me.

She jumped down and sat at my feet so I chanced picking her up, I held her to my chest wondering if she would sit down she didn't hiss and she was purring her head off. BUT, 10 seconds or less she was struggling to get down so I lifted her down so that she knew I wasn't trying to hurt her :hug:

Mary isn't it just so rewarding when they allow you just a little way into their space. When you have to try just that bit harder to be part of their life. It can make your heart sing when they hold out that paw towards you and allow just a small step towards friendship.

Well, she was looking at me from the box on the sofa bed, so I called her over and she sat on the arm of Bonnie's pink chair.
I pushed my coffee table closer to her which had my lap top on. Grabbed my camera and called her over and she sat on my lap top and I rubbed her ear and chin - these pics are brill.

She's having her bloods done on 6th August to make sure her thyroid id ok and she'll get her claws trimmed which I hope will help her to grip hold of stuff and get upstairs. I'm sure it's only her claws that are stopping her cos she is always looking up at my knees.
Hopefully when she starts going upstairs she will get on my bed and be like Bonnie and let me trim her nails a few at a time while I'm stroking her.

Mary you don't know her past. There is a farm cat where I live. Someone kept horses here and when she went, dumped the cat. Someone else fed her, then stopped after the said cat scratched her. I have now started to feed her. But go by her rules. Look, but don't touch. She is all purring and friendly until you try to touch her. Then you get a bloodied hand. If someone puts a coat down on a bale of hay they have got no hope of getting it back until she decides to vacate it. She runs up to you and then starts spitting and hissing at you as she follows you asking for food. Me and the girl groom came to the arrangement that we would feed her between us so as she can stay on the farm. She has no fear of people. Just hates them. I don't know her past. But I guess somewhere along the line she has been badly treated. Some cats often go into that mode of tummy rolling, then scratching you. The farm cat goes one further and rips your hand off without the rolling over bit. It's a pity because she could have so many friends with all the people that keep their horses there. I just feed her, call her the ungrateful cat and leave her to her own devices. She has made it quite clear she doesn't need a human friend. Just a sucker who will put up with her tantrums and feed her.

You just have to go slow Mary and Lupin was like that. I have to stroke him only where he likes and stop well before he strikes out. Over time he is getting better and now does head bumps on mine.
What I am still waiting for is a purr.
Sasa how ever swings between being scared and just adoring strokes but she wouldnt nhurt me at all, very gentle.

Well, she has just hissed and clawed me again and drew blood. It's only one claw and it's the size of a paper cut but it ruddy well hurt. That's it now for a while, it's just gonna be look but don't touch for me.

Mary I know how frustrating it must be for you. You must so want to show your love for her by touching her, then you get slashed for your efforts. At her age it might be so ingrained in her not to appreciate stroking, that you might just have to resort to the look and don't touch approach. She is jolly lucky at her age to get such a wonderful understanding person to take her on. A lot of people would have returned her. People like to be liked. On the farm people started feeding the abandoned farm cat. But they got huffy and refused to feed her after she slashed them. I feed her and tell myself what right have I to expect her to show gratitude. But then I have got six wonderful cuddly cats to go home to. You have just got Kitty. You could perhaps get a feather duster, or similar to just touch her with so she gets used to being touched. And you don't get slashed. When she tolerates the stroking with a feather duster, or glove on a stick, she could be rewarded with a treat. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how much we love our cats, we have to respect that they don't have to return the adoration.

She was in the drawer again this morning when I got up and been there all day apart from when I brought a packet of chicken breast in to the room and she came to me and jumped on the settee arm and when I laid back and put the chicken on my jumper covered torso and chest she stood on me with all 4 paws and she even sat on me to eat at one point.
I didn't attempt to stroke her, not even when she was purring and she jumped down and went back in the drawer :rofl: I wonder when I will be able to close that drawer??? :evillaugh:

When we first got Bass she was incredibly shy and didn't like being touched, so one day I tried brushing her. She tolerated it and then started to like it. Then she slowly started to get more confident and enjoy being stroked. It took several months, though.
Now she's a complete fuss monster and loves to sit on a lap. She still has a brush every night at bedtime.

I got one of those cat shaped massage brushes for Bonnie and she adored it. The other day I noticed it and just stroked Kitty with it twice and didn't push my luck. I'll get it out again now you've suggested it :thanks:

I've just spent the last couple of hours reading all of this thread and I have both been giggling and in near tears at the same time.
I'm really sorry that Tisha went up to the Rainbow Bridge...but she's waiting for you and Kitty to join her (but not for many, many years yet).
I've always loved tortoishell cats and Kitty reminds me of a stray my Nan used to have...Spike...pretty much a "look, but don't touch - unless you have food" lol.
It's wonderful that Kitty seems to be coming out of her shell now and like several have said, I'm sure she'll snuggle into your king-sized bed when she is ready.
I'll definitely be reading more of your thread and sending :hug: to you and a little hand rub to Kitty

You have had life easy with your cats Mary until now and have to remind you that its taken Sasa 7 years to allow stroking but only on her bterms at top of stairs and she vwaits their every night bfor her strokes.
However that is it, no other contact and she still runs away most times if I try to walk past her.
So much depends on their past lives and they never forget.
I think you are right she has been with you a very short time and Kocka used to love sleeping in a drawer full of socks :rofl: :rofl:

Good news is - Kitty laid on the settee next to meal day yesterday.
Bad news is - As she was laid so close I noticed under her chin was wet through. I leaned my head towards her to see closer and she has a massive sore under her chin.
Good News is that she is booked in to see the vet tomorrow.

It looks like the sores that Bonnie had on her back when I first got her and the injections worked so hope it's not anything worse. She's eating and everything else but it's hard to distract her from licking it when she won't let me touch her. I've said her name a few times and she stops for a few seconds and then starts again.

Thanks everyone, I'll let you know what the vet says. It's reminding me of Bonnie when I first got her and she had all them sores and had to have her tail removed cos of neglect. I kept taking her back for injections but they finally worked so fingers crossed for Kitty.
She's in the drawer at the moment so I wonder what it's gonna be like getting her in her carrier? ;)

She is fine :thanks:
Was easy getting her in te carrier, couldn't believe my luck.
Claws trimmed, ears cleaned and injection for her sore and I have to put a Derma Gel spray on it 3 times a day and antibiotics twice a day.
He wants to see her again next Monday.

Kitty was at the vet yesterday tosee how her sore was and if she could have her bloods done for her thyroid check.
I thought the sore looked worse but he said it wasn't infected any more and to continue with the anti-biotics and go back a week on Monday :evillaugh:

She's doing a lot of hiding cos of me trying to spray her sore :Luv2: At least she is taking the anti-biotic tablets in her food with no problems. The vet will be taking another look at her on Monday and see if she needs another anti-biotic injection.

:rofl: :rofl: Ruddy sprays. it's not looking too good this morning. Doesn't help with her scratching it but a collar would just rub against it with it being half on her chin and half on her throat.
She's been in hiding for quite a few days now so I'll have to get her out early in the morning with some treats so she gets to the vet on time.
She hates me, I've got loads of scratches on my hands where she has gone for me and spit at me. I so want her to come to bed with me and let me kiss her and rub her belly. Instead she looks at me and I stroke her, she purrs and then spits and scratches me WTF.

Sounds like she is blaming you cos of the spray, not a good start for poor Kitty.
Once she is better then she will love you.
Ask the vet what the spray does................suspect its a protective coat but maybe wrong and whether there is any thing else you can use cos she is terrified of it.

She's been given some more tablets and a gel instead of the spray. Not going to be much better as she won'tlet me touch her but tomorrow I'm gonna try putting disposable gloves on and trying to rub some on her. However, she's been behind the ruddy settee for days :censored:
Gill, I remember the vet saying it was to stop her itching but will have a look at the tube tomorrow and let you know as it's too dark now and having problems with my right eye, thought it was conjunctivitis but cream not working. I also had a tooth out today, a right pair aren't we?

Whats the problem with your eye Mary? See an optician is maybe the answer cos they do lots of tests now and know you werent looking after your diabetes, not as long as me but my right eye has been damaged and have been having treatment at a specialist clinic since Jul.
I went to my optician in Feb because thought a damaged lense in glasses was damaging my sight but turned out to be much more and she referred me to the hospital.

Nice one :hug: :hug: No pain thank God. Very good dentist, he knows I'm scared and makes me laugh all the way through.
Gill you could be right, I missed my appointment for the photo for diabetic eye test with my mum being in hospital in January.
I'm seeing my doctor 22nd September so I'll get her to have a good look and then possibly go to the optician. Should've had my annual eye test in March but cos my eye sight was blurred I cancelled.
Kitty is so unpredictable, jumped up on my laptop when it was open so I picked her up, she hissed and was then ok until I closed my laptop. She then sat there for about a hour and even letme stroke her. Probably gonabe another 3 weeks before that happens again :evillaugh:

My doc checked my eye and she told meto carry on using my eye drops for my Dry Eye that I've had for a few years and the gel I use at night. She has told me to put a small amount of baby shampooin some warm water and use cotton wool to bathe my eye every morning and go seemy optician as I cancelled my appointment in March.
Now for news on Kitty - are you sitting down? ................................................ SHE LET ME KISS HER HEAD YESTERDAY, I didn't try stroking her as I didn't want to push my luck ;)

The doctor gave me dry eye stuff too but was useless, the optician is the really important thing cos they will test for what I have and other things.
Do not delay any longer do it NOW.
I was talking to other patients at the hospital and not so many years ago anyone with what I have would go blind cos there was no way to treat it. Since 2013 Lucentis was approved to be used on NHS and its a wonder worker.

Kitty's at the vet having her neck looked at and this morning she couldn't put her left paw down so he's checking that too.
Made an appointment for my eyes - 1st October is the first appointment she has.
I'll let you know how Kitty is when she gets back in about 1/2 a hour.

Kirsty's assistant just phoned me to update me on Kitty.
Her neck is nicely healed up and no biopsy needed. Thinks it was probably an allergy or a scratch that infected her neck. Gave her an anti-biotic injection just to help it clear up all together.
I asked her for some more Advocate but she said that Kirsty gave her a tablet form that works from the inside rather then the Advocate coming in to her, somet like that anyway ;)
Kirsty clipped a claw that was a bit long, felt her paw all the way up and bathed it to see if she could see anything but no. She said she's reasonably happy with her paw and will see her again next Thursday or earlier if I'm worried.
At the moment she is sat on her box, fast asleep and snoring :rofl: :hug:
My Physiotherapist came and she has given me a few exercise to do and will come back and see me next Thursday.

Pleased you have an opticians appt and I am currently doing a diabetic course called expert. Did your doc test your glucose level.............he should have cos I learned yesterday that one of signs of your level being to high is blurred vision! Its also sign of it being to low lol but suspect that would not apply :innocent:
I have never suffered in either situation but have a greyed out part,m could be called blurred in one eye, thays why I am now having treatment on my eyes and was initiall discovered by optician.

Don't shout at me, I had to re-arrange cos I was up all night with a stomach bug and wasn't feeling to good this morning. Can't put mein untila fortnight, but I must admit it hasn't been as bad for a while.
Also had to re-arrange Kitty's appointment to next Thursday but that's ok as she is fine. Also had to re-arrange my physio.
Going to take a sleeping pill soonand go to bed.

No,not worried about it. All clear now, just one of those 24 hours things :sick:
Nice and sunny today which makes everyone feel 100 times better. I always sit in the shade but my front drive/garden has sun on it all day so I've been sitting in the porch where it is partly shaded.
Kitty is sat on her box on the sofa bed near thewindow doing a bit of sun bathing.

I heard the weather man say it's gonna be an Indian Summer and apparently you can only call it an Indian Summer if it's in October or November.
I hope it lasts cos my gas fire is broke and can't afford to get it fixed just yet I've got my central heating but it looks cosy with a fire on and Kitty likes to sit in front of the fire sometimes too.
At the moment Kitty has found the side opening to the box she likes to sit on and is inside it all the time except for eating and using her tray.

Yer it's just a box my new sheets and towels were delivered in. Don't have the heart to take it away.
She is still jumping on my lap top for me to make a fuss of her - usually around 7.00 p.m.
I think it's just a phase like sleeping in the drawer, she doesn't go near it now.

Well, my optician says there is nothing wrong with my eye. She thinks I might be straining it using my laptop too late in the dark with the electric light instead of proper day light. She wants me to bathe it about 10 times a day for the next week and cut down on my laptop and see her next week if no better.
Kitty got her blood results re: her thyroid. Said some points are high and some are low so he has put her dose up and wants to take some more blood in 3 weeks. She will also get weighed in 3 weeks as she was weighed last Thursday and she has lost weight. When I first got her they weighed her and she was 3.4KG and last Thursday she was 2.6 KG so maybe I can give her more Dreamies ? :evillaugh:

Never use lappy in daylight cos it doesnt get light enough in here except in summer but then have to draw curtains to be able to see :rofl:
I have just invested in a new light bulb though cos tescoes making halofen nlight bulbs equiv of 100 and 150watts and they are brighter than the old ones

Good news about your eyes, Mary. I use a program called Flux which dims your screen at dusk and brightens it at dawn.

Kitty was back at the vet on Monday for her bloods doing again and she was weighed too. She was 2.53 kg so she lost a tiny bit and I was told to give her 4 pouches a day instead of 3.
Hopefully her bloods will come back with a better result this time after putting her doe up for the last 3 weeks. If ok then she will continue on that dose and then hopefully her weight will get better.

When Drum lost some weight, the vet recommended Royal Canin Senior Consult stage 2 - it's a bit pricey (of course!) and it will never be Drum's favourite food but she has three or four times a week and has put some weight on. We started mixing it with her regular Felix but now she has it neat.

Thanks everyone, I was rally pleased :hug: BUT, last night I nearly had a heart attack...............................
I was sat on the settee and Kitty was on the laptop on top of the coffee table, I leaned back to have a stretch and I felt something on my thighs and then my stomach. IT WAS KITTY :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
She laid there on my stomach for almost a hour and even moved up to my chest for a bit. She even let me rub her head and her ears. Finally I had to pick her up and put her back on the lap top cos my back was killing me.
AND GUESS WHAT? ................ She came back about 20 minutes later and stayed again until I had to pick her up cos my back was aching.
Must put a cushion behind my back if I see her coming again. She's been in her box on the sofa bed all day :rofl:

It took Bass three or four months to start coming out of her shell (and out of the wardrobe!), so I know how you feel. I can still remember the first time she jumped up on my lap and the first time she ran down the garden to me.

OMG
The past 3 nights in a row, YES 3 nights in a row, Kitty has jumped up and laid on my chest. Last night was the 3rd time lucky as I had my camera handy.

Thanks everyone, we just brought in 2016 together :wow: I was using my laptop and she jumped on it so I picked her up and leaned back on the settee and this was about 11.55 p.m. and she stayed until about 12.15 a.m. when she caught her claw in my jumper and panicked, but she was ok.
