Title: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on November 10, 2014, 19:15:25 PM
As some of you know, this little bundle of mischief wandered into my house 2 weeks ago, and seemed determined to stay. Having had a cat go missing a few weeks before, I tried to spare someone else the torment, and had her checked for a chip (there isn't one), posted on local Facebook pages, contacted local cat rescues and RSPCA, and asked around the neighbourhood, all to know avail. I wondered if she may have escaped from a visit to the vet, as I'd heard several stories of that happening, so took her to the nearest one to me, even though I'm not at all keen on that particular practice, but they didn't recognise her.
(http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/DaveD_05/MyCats/Lily.jpg) (http://s142.photobucket.com/user/DaveD_05/media/MyCats/Lily.jpg.html)
When I posted about her on another thread, the comments convinced me that I should take the next step and adopt her, so I've given her a name (suggested by a friend, don't blame me!) and will arrange to have her spayed and chipped over the next few days. She still could be claimed so it's provisional, but it occurred to me it always is, especially in the first few months. She could get fed up with me and move on to pastures new!
She seems settled though. If I go to sit down, she's on my lap before I've made contact with the chair. I'm not exaggerating for effect, it's literally true! She's a devil for pinching things to play with, like magazines. I've dug out some cat toys that the others got bored with, including a "fishing rod" type one. I keep that one hidden away in a footstool/box, because the elastic might hurt her if she plays with it unattended, but when I opened the box to get something, she was in like a shot for her toy!
Most of the time though, she sits on my lap, or tucks herself into my arm:
(http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/DaveD_05/MyCats/Lily2.jpg) (http://s142.photobucket.com/user/DaveD_05/media/MyCats/Lily2.jpg.html)
I've had to change Bramble's food over to kitten food, as I think normal food is giving Lily the runs. It doesn't help that I have no idea what she was eating before. It's intermittent, and she doesn't show any signs of discomfort, like dragging her bum on carpets, and she has constant access to water, so I'm not too concerned yet. If it doesn't clear up in a week, then I'll worry. At least I've persuaded her to use a litter tray!

By the way, the details I've put in there are in case I've done something wrong, or could do better. Any ideas, please don't hold back. I know everyone here has the best interest of cats at heart!

She's also hilarious at times, though I often feel guilty for laughing, like when she took a yoghurt pot out of the sink so she could lick the remains of the yoghurt. Of course, she got her head stuck, and I had to chase a cat running backwaeds to free her. (I now wash out the pots immediately.)

Lily's favourite is, of all things, lemon flavour, but I'm keeping it away from her until her stomach settles.
After that, she can have a little. It's got much less lactose than milk, but more than cheese.

Bramble and Lily have entered that worrying stage, just after them not really liking each other. Now they alternate between hissing at each other, and playing chasing games. It's terrifying to watch, because Bramble is more than twice as big as Lily, but Lily is usually the one starting things, often by going up to an unaware Bramble and slapping her!
I'll just have to keep out of it, but be ready to intervene if things get nasty.
I wonder if my doctor will let me have some tranquillisers, I may need them!  ;D

Oh wow she is stunning :D Dave
hmm settled in with her Slave ok then just need to make friends with her boss
It is worrying when they don't really get on yet Ya doing the right thing letting them sort it out and in the side line to step in if needed and try to be calm lol

Similar situation here with my two lads garf and marl with Mr blue newbie~ish stray
They don't get on with him don't really want him in third home but thankfully no bad fighting.  Mr blue knows he's number 3 and is always defensive if they go near him
Garf is nawty and will sneak up and bop him one when he's fast asleep! He literally sneaks up , looks , sneaks a bit closer then bop and runs off. Cheeky git!
I don't help as I always intervene and I shouldn't but I get all worried they will fight so it's my fault they prob don't get on very well!

It's brill you wi get her spayed , prev owners can't have cared much as she wasn't done already :(

Xx

Unless mine are trying to murder each other I leave them to it.  After a few minutes of hissing they are back to ignoring each other again. :)

Sasa meeps at Lupin if he gets too close and becomes a proper shout and hiss if he doesnt listen, Lupin will try bopping Misa and rumbling, Misa lies there and then bops back harder and harder, then when Lupin just walking past will stick out a paw lol

Alfie would sooo love to play with Cleo, sometimes he just can't help himself and reaches out a paw towards her - or bops her fluffy tail as she goes past  :evillaugh:

Just got a reply from CP about a voucher, so I'll be taking her in for spaying sometime next week. Fortunately she is really easy to handle, so I won't have any trouble getting her into the carrier.
Not for the first visit, anyway!

She's booked in for next Thursday for spaying and micro chipping. She's not allwed food after 8pm, so it looks like she'll be spending the night in my room with just a bowl of water and a litter tray. Oh joy!

Finally got a half decent shot with my camera instead of my phone. Lily spends a lot of time sleeping on me, so I can't reach my camera, or running around like a maniac, so I miss her in the photo!

Post by: DaveD on November 15, 2014, 22:55:14 PM
I'm thinking more and more that she's been abandoned. She gets into a lot of mischief, more than any kitten I've had, and took a while to get used to using a litter tray, but she's also more affectionate than any cat I've had, so she's not been treated cruelly before she was kicked out (if she was).
Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that nobody will come for her so I won't have to imagine giving her up.   :sneaky:
Anyway, here she is trying to take over my computer:

Fun and games today.
I bought a load of meat yesterday, and this morning I split it and packed it for the freezer. Some of it had those pieces of absorbent paper that soaks up excess blood. They went in the bin, but Lily managed to get them out and started chewing on them. I managed to get them away from her before she swallowed any, but it was a bit of a battle.
Crafty little minx!

I'll be getting some ready cooked chicken breast from Iceland on Thursday ready for when she comes home. It's not something I'd buy for myself, much too expensive, but all the cats I've had have loved it.
As for the markings, she seems to be a tabby, but only if the light is right!

Lily is at the vet for spaying and microchipping, and I'm biting my nails until 4 pm, when I've got to phone them. The vet was happy with her general health, so I shouldn't have anything to worry about. Still do though.

Home already, and she's had some chicken - I thought she wouldn't stop eating!
The vet rang before 3, so I arranged a lift and went to get her. She's hardly broken her stride, and is as boisterous as ever, but she hasn't bothered taunting Bramble. Yet!
Has she got a little bit of peachy coloured fur, making ber a dilute tortie????
The vet put down "grey and tortoiseshell" on the paperwork for the microchip, so you were right.

I didn't think to ask. I was more interested in seeing that it was a midline spay, which I'd never seen before. I've just done a bit of reading up, and I now know why the vet was so pleased with Lily's behaviour, as flank spays are preferred for difficult to handle cats.
Lily has settled down a bit now, though she's not quite back to normal. She's sitting alongside me, rather than on me, most of the time. I think today has confused her. She even turned her nose up at a bit of yoghurt, until I tried to give it to Bramble (who didn't want it), then she gulped it down!

She looks great especially after such a big op for little cat  ;D Its a long time since I had a female cat neutered and she stayed in cat hospital for 48hrs and she wasn't running around for at least a week after she came home. It's amazing what they can do these days.

Mind you my two boys came home, no stitches and no bald spots. They ate and ate and ate  ;D
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on November 21, 2014, 06:23:26 AM
She had a funny turn last thing last night as I was about to turn in, and started attacking my hand ( tortitude!). She's done this occasionally before, and I just remove my hand until she calms down, but this time I let her get away with it, after the big and confusing day she'd had. She isn't breaking skin, it's just play, but I don't want to encourage the behaviour, as she may play rougher when she gets bigger.
So far this morning, she's completely back to normal.

hope tummy ok now cos it was lupins nueter that started his tummy off, well maybe all the eating but took months to sort out.

yes andrew its this froig they are using that makes them eat and go loopy!

it also helps them to recover quicker but personally i ask that it not be used in ops now as would rather they came round slowere and calmer.

a female would take 24 hrs to be fully round.

my vet say they dont give it too older cats when 15yr old sasa had an op last year.

It looks like she's a fan of Ed Byrne, but she doesn't like the BBC2 logo!
I remembered to ask some questions at the vet. It was ketamine, among other drugs, but I was surprised to learn that the stitches weren't glued. If the vet ever decides to change careers, he could become a tailor!

A damn sight better than the one I took Lily to when I got her checked for a microchip. That one was nearer to me, but spoke to me like crap, and I wasn't sure he'd treat animals any better. I went out of my way to go to a practice I had some confidence in, and I'm very glad I did. I think Lily would agree!

I was given some money to buy something for the cats and, as the old cat tree is getting a bit tatty, I thought I'd replace it. I couldn't afford to get one exactly the same, but it turned out the one I got has parts that are interchangeable with the existing one, so I've ended up with one that's better than both.
I thought that Lily might try and commandeer it, and so far I was right, but at least the other two won't be bothered by her while she's using it.

I should probably move the tree.
The reason it's there is that Bramble was very shy of people, even me, so I put the tree next to me to get her a little nearer. It seems to have worked, she still isn't keen on other people, but comes to me often, just not on the tree, so I should probably move it. I'll wait until after the new year, there's been enough change for the time being.
For now, I can enjoy watching Lily playing right next to me.

Lily, at least, is using the cat tree. The others just use the scratching post part, though I usually find Clio sitting on the top waiting for me when I come downstairs.

Clio coming home was the best Christmas present I could have wished for, but this is a nice bonus. She and Lily stayed like this for about half an hour. I don't expect them to ever be best friends - Clio has never been that keen on other cats - but this is encouraging. Not a hiss or a growl to be heard!

It sometimes feels more like a Cold War than "getting along", especially when there's food involved!
I've been really lucky though, and there hasn't been any open hostility, just the occasional game that goes a little too far for Bramble.
Poor old Bramble used to get on Clio's nerves by being too playful, now she's on the receiving end from Lily.
Obviously it was upsetting when Clio went AWOL, and I'd rather she hadn't, but her going and returning when she did probably helped. Lily's arrival might not have gone so well if there had been two settled cats already in the house.

Well so much for one peaceful meal a week. Ever since she arrived, Lily has tried to get food from my plate, except if it's curry.
Yesterday she started mithering me while I was eating my Thai green curry, so I gave her a bit of the sauce on my finger, thinking it would put her off.
Like hell it did, she loved it!
No more peaceful meals for me.

Lovely pics of the fab 3 and the tree.  Gonna have one big happy family very soon if you ask me

Trees and beds are always gonna be a big mystery I think for us all.  The amount of times I've thought about taking things to the RSPCA cos she isn't using them is unbelievable. Maybe it's like us wearing the same clothes all the time, we get fed up

Is she after the plant or the butterfly?

I once said to Bonnie "these are marmite crisps and you won't like them" shoving one under her nose and YES, you guessed it, she licked all the flavour off while I sat there like her servant :evillaugh:

It's definitely the plant she's after. I'm not sure what it is, but it's got fern-like leaves, so when she touches one part of the plant, other parts move. Drives her wild!
I'm going to have to disappoint Lily as far as the curry is concerned. It has loads of onion in it, so not safe for cats. I can see some furious fights ahead, or I'll have to eat standing in the middle of the room so she can't reach!

Mary, my Tiffany loves marmite - especially smeared on a blob of butter - it's because it's yeasty, I suppose - I have known cats go mad for brewer's yeast tablets

as for plants, I remember coming home to find two window boxes of tulips sporting rows of  bare stems, and no sign of the flowerheads anywhere

Lily still loves her yoghurt I had to stop giving her the empty pot to lick clean, as she'd get her head stuck and start running backwards. While that was sort of funny, it was also distressing, as she was in a panic, so now I have to give her a spoonful on the lid instead, every time I have some.
Unless, that is, I have one of these. She can get right into it, without it becoming lodged on her head, though she's growing fast, so I don't know how long that'll last.

And quite a character too! Though, as much as she can be a pest, she's so affectionate, I can't be angry with her, however many times she knocks things over!
I've tried cutting the empty yoghurt pots (I should have thought of that myself) but Lily chases the pieces around the house, getting yoghurt into the rugs, so I think that's something for the warmer weather, when I can put them outside and leave the door open, so I know when she's finished.

Apologies for another prolonged absence, but a little while ago I had what seemed to be bad news and I've been a bit unsettled, though everything seems sorted now.
Lily went missing for 10 days, then turned up wearing a collar with an address written on it. I went round, thinking they'd taken her in because she looked like a stray, but it turned out that's where she was before she came to me.
To cut a long story short, there was some argument, and they posted a rather nasty hand delivered letter that included a phone number. I'd had time to consider, and decided that it would be unfair to Lily to conduct a tug of war with her in the middle, so I rang the number and, using all the diplomacy I could muster, told them they could have her. That was on a Sunday.
The next day I got a text asking if I could wait until Wednesday. Of course I could so, when Wednesday came around I sent a text asking what time they'd collect her, so I could make sure she was in, as she likes to go out and torment the local dogs for hours on end (much to the dogs' owners amusement!)
That was a couple of months ago, and I've not heard a peep out of them since. In fact, I'd put their collar back on her, and it disappeared on the Thursday, so I think they've thought things over and decided not to bother.

So now, the other two have had to get used to her all over again, but that seems to be going well. Amazingly, there wasn't a hiss or a growl from any of them in this picture!

I've had to put a collar on her, as I kept seeing her photo on Facebook with people asking if she's a stray (and probably hoping she is), but unlike the one she came home with, it's a breakaway one.

How very odd  :-:  Why on earth would someone behave like that?  If I found any of our lot living elsewhere, at the very least I would be quizzing the new slaves about his/her new living conditions.

Did they ever give you any proof that she lived with them beforehand and for how long?

I suppose some people are just weird.  Maybe there was a difference of opinion within her old home about keeping her.  She did leave after all so something was not to her liking?

Am delighted she has fitted back in well with Bramble and Clio  :Luv2:  Has she gone missing at all from your home in the last couple of months?

I believe money was a factor. Early on, it was mentioned that they had intended to breed from Lily because she was a "rare breed of tabby", whatever that's supposed to mean! I suspect, with hindsight, that they want to start a kitten farm, and make some quick money selling kittens. Maybe it took a while for it to sink in that I'd had her spayed.
Lily goes out every day (it would be almost impossible to keep her in all the time), but she comes back whenever there's food around. She particularly likes my dinner, whatever that happens to be. The only way I could keep her in all day would be to make it rain all the time!

Today is roast chicken day, so Lily will be there as soon as it's cooked.

I'm not neglecting the others though. I make sure they get some of whatever treats are going, though Lily does seem to think all food is hers!

What a horrible experience all round, Dave.  When you first took Lily in, you did everything you could've done to see if she belonged to anyone.  Am so pleased you had her chipped and spayed.  I suspect you're right about their plans to breed from her.  Thank the Lord she's ended up with you.

They did mention that they'd paid £90 for her, and they'd be prepared to give her up if I reimbursed them that amount. I wondered then if they were trying to scam me (it was all a bit heated and confused at the time), but I've just been looking at some photos from when she first arrived, and it's possible they were conned by whoever sold her to them. They probably didn't realise that kittens tend to have very big ears, that they later grow into, so she may have looked quite exotic to them.

She's worth £90 of anyone's money, but I'd still be sceptical.  They hadnt even had her chipped, so what proof have they?  And you paid to have her spayed and chipped and vet checked, so that would counter balance the £90.00.

Doesnt sound like they can be bothered though, now and I doubt I'd give her up after their attitude and lack of interest since.   Seems to me Lily decided where she wanted to be.  Clever girl.

The piccies with the food made me giggle.  She looks like she's "plottin...."  ;)

No, the washing machine is just the jumping-off point!
Actually, despite scrounging all the time I was dismantling the chicken, she wouldn't eat the bits I gave her. It wasn't until I sat down to my own dinner that she was suddenly starving!
I know she gets treats from several neighbours, especially the ones who have dogs. She winds the dogs up, then gets rewarded for providing entertainment! If I hear a dog yelping, I'm pretty sure she's on her way home.

Yesterday they were waiting for food together, today there was no food involved, but they still chose to spend quite a bit of time together.
Lily, of course, just had to push her luck. Bramble's tail sticking out was too much temptation! She only went for it once, and got hissed at, but they stayed where they were for a good twenty minutes afterwards.

She's a little minx! She isn't nasty though, just a bit too playful for the other two. At least if she's getting closer to Bramble, she'll leave Clio. who isn't keen on other cats, in peace.

Lily likes to get in the way!
The downside is that she slows me down but, more important to me, the upside is she isn't scared of me.
She's always sitting on this thing, especially when I'm about to go out!

I've just taken delivery of this stool, which should help me work at the sink for longer without resting. That's assuming Lily allows me to!

I've never known a cat quite as trusting as Lily, who will stay put even if it looks as if I'm about to step on her. It's a wonder I haven't yet!. She's the complete opposite of Bramble, who will scarper if I move an inch in her direction! (Though Bramble will come to me looking for attention if I'm walking away  .)
Title: Re: Meet Lily!

I keep some cooked strips of chicken in the freezer, and take a few out in the morning to give them to the cats in the evening. It's particularly useful to distract Lily while I close the door, so she doesn't run outside when I'm trying to shut her in for the night.
I forgot today, so I had to use a still frozen piece, hoping that Lily wouldn't notice until it was too late.
She didn't care! She played with it a bit longer than usual, but that was all. She still ate it.
I don't think I should make a habit of giving her frozen food, but as a one off it was funny!

She loved it, but then she'll eat practically anything!
I have it in the back of my mind that you're not supposed to give cats cold food though, so I think I'll hold off for now, at least until I've done a bit of research. I'll just have to remember to take some out of the freezer a bit earlier for the time being.
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: bickhamwitch on August 27, 2015, 22:53:00 PM
The only reason not to give cats frozen food is that it doesn't smell like warm food does. So they tend to leave it as they don't recognise it as food. But it won't harm them, any more than giving a child an ice cream. Cats being fussy usually turn their noses up at frozen food. But if Lily likes it, then it certainly won't harm her. Dogs are the ones that go for frozen treats rather than cats. But then most dogs are greedy and will eat anything!
Julie.

Here is a link to frozen pet treats. They say cats and dogs. But I think cats would turn their noses up at most of them.

Lily will eat anything, including curry. I have to be careful not to let her near it, because it has a lot of onion (well mine do!) She also chases dogs. I don't think she realises she's a cat!
I've just found something that gives a reason not to give cats cold food. It may upset their stomach, apparently, but I think that's really just for cats with delicate stomachs, like old cats, or very young kittens,  so I don't think I'll worry too much.
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: bickhamwitch on August 27, 2015, 23:56:32 PM
Well done on the research. I couldn't find a reason not to give frozen food. Though it makes sense. Even though old and ill people in hospital get fed the regulation jelly and ice cream all the time! But as regards to cats eating frozen, I certainly wouldn't worry about it. I think (hopefully) most cat owners with a cat with health problems would not think of offering anything that might upset their stomachs.
Julie.

They soon learn habits from watching others. My Gracie knows the clicking of clipped claws means a treat afterwards. Even if they aren't her claws she will always come and do the staring act until the victim's claws are clipped and she knows it's treat time.

It changes according to the light. Sometimes she looks blue grey, others more of an orange tinge.
Staff at the vet couldn't agree, but several people here have suggested dilute tortoiseshell. She certainly has tortitude, so I'm going with that for now!
I've started buying big bags of cooked pieces of chicken, and I take a few pieces out of the freezer to thaw in time for my dinner, so there's something to distract Lily from my plate. I now have to take out extra for Bramble, who has decided, after watching Lily, that it's safe to take food from my hand. Bramble is still nervous though, so I didn't risk startling her with a camera flash. Lily isn't nervous at all, in like a shot!

Lily hasn't a nasty bone in her body, as far as cats or people are concerned, though I expect mice and the like might not trust her.  :naughty:
She is a bit exuberant though, and that's a bit of a problem for Clio, who isn't keen on other cats anyway. Still, Clio is happy to stay upstairs in my bedroom, and Bramble is happy, most of the time, to play Lily's games, so there's not too much to panic about.

My new internet hub arrived on Thursday, just after I'd come home from shopping, so I rushed to put all the perishables away, and started setting up the hub. Lily quickly made herself comfortable!

I tyhink she's about 18 months old. When she arrived about a year ago, I thought she was arounf 9 months old, but I've since been told she was only 6 months.
Either way, she's still a little minx!

Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on November 24, 2015, 21:09:10 PM
I'm still not entirely sure how to describe Lily's markings. Some say she's a dilute tortie (and she has the tortie character!), others say she has faint tabbie markings. In some lighting conditions, at first glance, I can't tell which one has just run past, unless the bell on Lily's collar rattles!

A cat is a cat to me.  :sneaky: Sometimes, though, it's necessary to describe them, such as when they go missing.
I only really noticed the term "dilute tortoiseshell" the first time I took Lily to the vet, and at least two of the nurses there couldn't agree about her colour!

Andrew dilute torties are gorgeous, pale grey/blue, pink/ginger, and grey. Have only seen them calico style. They are all in pastel colours  :Luv2: :Luv2:

The colours are so dilute they aren't always obvious. Good strong sunlight (now only a memory!) brings out the ginger that's lost in colder light, as in this photo from last month:

Sue that's fascinating, I didn't know that torties are almost always females and that Indies colouring is called calico in the US. I also didn't know there are so many recognised varieties, just amazing!

Thanks for that, my first lesson of the day.

Lily has another habit, which is both infuriating and endearing at the same time.
Just like several other people, I have cats who sit at the window as they leave. Not Lily! If there's someone in the house, she has access top outside, and more than once I've tried to walk to town, only to have to turn back because Lily tries to follow me. There are too many busy roads for me to let her follow me for too long.
I've also frequently found her waiting at the end of the road when I come home, which is less worrying! When she sees me she runs alongside, stopping to let me catch up, then running again.
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: Sue P (Paddysmum) on December 09, 2015, 06:42:40 AM
Aw Dave, that's lovely - but as you say - worrying too.

We used to have a little cat, Flynn - he was the dilute ginger tabby - and he used to wait for me coming home from work, run down the back lane to greet me then dance back to the house with me in tow.   :evillaugh:

Am well impressed with that picture of her on the washing airer   ;D

I used to have loads of cat visirors thro my flap in London and one used to follow me down the road when going to mwork and the number of times I missed the train cos of having to walk him home again!!!!!!!!!!

I lived close to the London Brighton Rd and didnt want him going that far.
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on December 09, 2015, 16:19:11 PM
If I have an appointment, or need to catch a bus, I have to leave the house 20 minutes early, just so I can walk her back home.
She doesn't always follow me though, so sometimes I find myself waiting around for ages!

I'm gradually putting decorations on the tree, a few at a time. Still no trouble from Lily, though she did go for the tinsel when I took it out of the box! That's over an entrance from the living room to the kitchen. It's a wide doorway, but there's no door, so I'll be hanging Christmas cards up there too. Cards are another target for Lily, she likes to pretend to fight them, and then chew the corners!
Title: Re: Meet Lily!

One of my cats was very well known at the local train station, underground etc.  In the last 6 months of her life, she not only followed me to the station, onto the train, she then followed me to the underground along the district line to Chelsea.  She would hang around all day and then do the return journey.  I had to loose 4 days leave, eventually just put her on the train back with the guard to put her off at Bexley etc.

The train station people were heart broken when she finally passed away from a stroke.  The vet thought she was having her last swing before retiring.

These two have been tolerating each other more and more every day. That is, Lily keeps leaping on Bramble, and Bramble tolerates her most of the time!
The shopping bags seem to have calmed them both down a lot, now that Bramble has discovered them, and they've spent several hours together sleeping on one of them - and they're still there! They've never been so close!

Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on December 16, 2015, 18:56:00 PM
Probably the texture. One of the bags is a Tesco one I was given a few years ago, so it won't smell strongly of whatever it is it smells of. The other is an Asda one I bought a few weeks ago.
It could still be the smell, but either way, I'll have to buy a couple of new ones!
Title: Re: Meet Lily!
Post by: DaveD on December 24, 2015, 04:42:54 AM
Bramble had a coughing/sneezing fit a few minutes ago. It starts out sounding like she's coughing up a furball, though nothing's ever come up. When it first happened I rushed towards her, intending to get her off the carpet, which cats always choose to throw up on, but I stopped doing that, partly because there was no furball or sick, and partly because she ran away from me, though never away from carpet!
This time, Lily rushed to her, and I expected her to take advantage of Bramble's distress and pounce on her, but (and I know this sounds anthropomorphic) she seemed concerned for Bramble's welfare. Not only that, but Bramble didn't feel threatened and stayed where she was. I think they've turned a corner in their relationship. There's still the occasional spat when Bramble gets tired of Lily's youthful exuberance, but they're spending much more time close together in peaceful coexistence.
I managed to get a photo, but it was on my phone, in poor light, so it's a bit rubbish.

That programme about cats that was on telly a few months ago (I forget the name) had some footage of cats in a house at night, and their behaviour was completely different to how the behaved during the day.

I recently got a new telly, and was worried that Lily would knock it over while trying to sit on top of it. The old one was HUGE and Lily loved to sit on it, and occasionally try and catch things on the screen. She only got onto the new one once, didn't seem impressed, and fortunately jumped off without causing a CATastrophe!
However, she now likes to plonk herself right in front of the new TV. Good thing it's a large screen!

Now I have a mobility scooter I don't use the rollolator as often, though I'll be using it whenever I need to travel by bus, such as hospital visits. The roads I need to use then are treacherous!
It still gets a lot of use though, especially by Lily!

Not as bossy as my Sammy used to be to Barney :naughty:, she used to do forcible washes by holding his head flat on the floor so he was pinned , it was okay when he was a kitten and she was a year old, but she was a tiny cat and he ended up huge, years later she still had him conditioned that she would place her paw on top of his head and he obediently lowered his head to the floor.

Lily's picked a new vantage point in the kitchen, from which she can survey any food being prepared, and pounce if it's something she likes (which is almost everything!) Here she is watching a joint of lamb being cut up, and waiting for me to turn my back.

Lily enjoying the sun today. The trouble with nice weather is Lily won't come in, or rather she'll come in then run out as soon as I move towards the door. I know all cats like to make you keep doors open, but Lily's the worst for it that I've encountered. I've grown to really appreciate rain since she arrived! Luckily, some passing youngsters helped me catch her this evening, or I might have had to cancel my visit to the pub!

I am very strict in that dept. They only get things off our plates when we are finished and then only fairly divided between their dishes. We have an agreement, we don't eat out of their dishes and they don't eat off of ours. ;) Doesn't stop them from giving us 'the look' though.

Lily isn't allowed to eat off my plate, but I usually put a few scraps aside for her, and the other two since Lily's taught them bad habits! Lily will very slowly move her paw towards my dinner, but she doesn't snatch it. Clio's more likely to do that. You'd think she'd be old enough to know better!

Bit of a long story and a bit .

Years ago I was friendly with a hairdresser called Lyn, (lots of it about, those Lyn's get everywhere. ;)), she was going to put highlights in my hair , we got there, said yes to a cup of tea and a bit of cake, as you do. Her Husband Larry had a spider monkey, they also had a scruffy dog called Mutley, the monkey had the run of the house and cra**ed everywhere, Mutley would follow behind and eat the cr*p. When we had finished our drinks we looked for somewhere to put the cups and plates and Larry said to put them on the floor where Mutley immediately finished off the dregs and 'washed' the plates, I went through to the kitchen to get the stuff washed off my hair as Larry came out to make another cuppa, he asked me if I wanted another and I politely declined. I had seen what the dog had been eating before licking the cups, he rinsed his cup under cold water and made himself another cuppa.   How those two never got ill I will never know.

Almost enough to put you off keeping animals for life. :shify: :shify: :shify:

Lily was being a pain again today. With Bramble under house arrest for the time being, I need the others in fairly early, so I can let Bramble downstairs, without risking her getting out, and at least give her a bit of freedom, but Lily decided she was going to stay on top of next door's garage. Luckily, next door are big fans of Lily, and were able to bribe her with a piece of ham!

I sometimes have to look twice too. Lily has a slightly rounder face than Pippa, but their markings are almost identical, their bodies are also very similar. How much does Lily weigh? Pip was 3.8 kilos last year, she is due at the vets for her jabs in the next week, I know that she has bulked up since then. I reckon about 4.4-5 kilos. She is getting old though, over two years, middle aged spread.

Not sure how much Lily weighs, but the vet was happy a few months ago on her last visit. She's about 3½ now, so probably a bit heavier than Pippin. I still think of her as a kitten though!

Bob will be three on New Years Day, Pippa and Pirate, being feral/strays were estimated at about June 29th. I call them the kittens. Emo is about 7 and Merlin about five so they are the grown up cats. I suspect that when they are elderly the kittens will still be the kittens. :naughty:

Lily on top of the telly again, taking a keen interest in an episode of "The Punisher". There's a broken mirror in the picture, she hasn't managed to break another screen!

Isn't it funny how cats can be comfy on tiny things you wouldn't think even they could balance on, norty Lily. :Luv2:

Lily was fascinated by a programme about cats. She searched behind the television several times for her relatives!

None of my cats have ever been very interested in the TV - although Sky will pay attention if she hears cats, kittens or sqeaking noises.

I bought some meat online and it arrived today. Lily thought she was going to have some, but I managed to put it away before she could pinch any, so she played with the box for a bit.

I order most of my meat online these days. Every time I get a delivery, Lily gets overexcited!

She doesn't need to, she and Bramble just wait for Dave to cook it and then they may let him eat a little of it himself if he's lucky.

Yep, that's about right!   :naughty:

Although it's touch and go whether Bramble will let me out of my chair long enough to cook.

I still have to keep checking that it's really her! No such problem with Lily though, she's still a minx!
