Hi
I'm new to the forum and a new mum to Martha!
When we got her, we were told she was 8.5 weeks but their maths didn't add up with the alleged birth date. As her eyes changed colour in the last 4 days (they were grey when we got her) I think she's about 7-8 weeks now.
We've had her 9 days and things haven't been great. After a happy start, playing, and doing all normal kitty things, she had an upset tum on day 4. Vet said she was small for her age, (based on the age we thought she was), so needed to put weight on. That afternoon she ate loads of fresh cooked chicken! Day 5 didn't want to eat, didn't want to play, so vets again! Had high temp and antibiotic shot. Still affectionate but not playful. Friday spent day at vets so they could monitor her feeding. They seemed happy though they started syringe feeding which we adopted. Blood work in the jugular poor thing - was all OK apart from a couple of low levels. Saturday vets again didn't eat all morning, and quiet, vet said to keep going with syringe feeds/water and meads. Sunday no real improvement....vets again, this vet thought she was about 7 weeks! Now I'm so stressed and confused!! Yesterday we had a bit of break through she ate dry kibbles a couple of times and kitten milk but I kept up syringe feeds. Today for first time she's drunk from her water bowl..... She just wants to sleep or be on your lap sleeping - but purrs when you stroke her. She's using her litter tray and scratch post but not doing kitty play things. We've been advised this will just take time, and to be patient but I worry so much that she won't survive unless she starts wants to eat herself.
Interested if anyone else a similar experience and what you did.

Hello Martha's Mummy.
What difficult beginnings for you both, and I can understand just how anxious you must be feeling right now.
As you point out, if she was playing and eating well it would make such a difference, but the lethargy and the syringe feeding must be cause for concern. I havent been in that position myself, and having quite such a young kitten, but can share in your desire to see things improve and soon.
There will be others far more experienced than me with this,and better placed to advise and I'll leave it to them to reply - if Liz is around, she has a lot of experience with young kittens and may have suggestions to make.
Until then, I'll just say I'm sending every positive thought for you both, and saying a big warm Purrs Welcome to you and to young Martha. :welcome:

She's so adorable and we love her so much, it's heartbreaking, I just want her to be healthy and happy.
I worry that if she's really younger, this upheaval plus sickness has been too much for her. I just hope she knows how much we love her and will do everything to get her back on her tiny paws.

That shines out from your opening post, to be honest. I can see only too well how upsetting this is, and the thought that something may happen out of your control. She's so young, and it's natural you want to shield her from life's hard knock.
When we got Moray last year, he was put at around 4 months old, but in fact when he was kitten checked, he was only 3 months old, and he'd been starved for a proportion of his young life and was small and underweight.
We set about remedying that, and he now has a very credible appetite, at just over a year old, although he's remained relatively small in stature. My sincere hope is that we'll all be wishing Martha a happy first birthday in due course.
Please give her a little ear rub from me, Tinks and Moray. :) :hug:

Good news I was starting to syringe feed her when I had a blob on my finger which she licked off, so I put it on the dish on my lap and she woofed loads down!!! So happy another hurdle over - just hope we don't take any steps backwards. Anyway, I'd love to share some pics so will mail them to you.

I am sure that it won't be long as you seem to be going in the right direction.

I was wondering whether the food should be further away - didn't bother her in the early days, but your advice is most welcome. She's been drinking her kitten milk and water from there today, but I will move the food to the far left of the picture - we're thinking by the back door ... Hopefully she'll find it after all the stress of not eating ..... So that's another metre away and round a corner ....... do we think that would be enough??

Oh my goodness, what a beauty!! Kittens are so tiny and seem so frail but we have one on here who was so poorly in her early days, we really thought she wouldn't make it but has done really well.

Yes, and look at little Marley Moo, the kitten who contracted smallpox, and was very uncertain for a period whether or not he'd pull through. He did, and is a beautiful cat.
Having someone who loves and cares for a kitten, and who is rooting for them is an enormous boost when their health is not of the strongest. Not just because you'll do your damndest to give her every chance, but I also think it's to do with the bonding process, and the invisible links we forge with our babies.
If love alone can do anything, then coupled with good care, nourishing food and vigilant observation, it has to be a force to be reckoned with.
So pleased that Martha took some food from your finger yesterday and hope she continues to make giant strides. :)
Good idea about moving her food away from her tray, and I echo Rosella's words - your kitchen and food trays/litter etcetera are stunningly clean and spotless. I'd better not post any piccies of the chaos that is our kitchen..... :-[

Morning lovely mummies!
Martha continues to do well and ate kibbles during the night whilst we were asleep (I moved the bowls further away - thanks for the tip ladies). She came upstairs about 7 this morning meowing and purring so was very happy to see us both and have a lovely cuddle. She came downstairs and drank kitten milk, water and ate more kibbles. I then put some of her recovery food down and again a bit in my finger and she edged nearer to the plate and ate half!!!!! I've continued to put her back by her food and she's drinking water, kitten milk and finished of a 1/6th of a tin of recovery food this morning""" :Luv:
We decided to park the vet check this morning in favour of giving her a bit more time to settle and get into happy eating habits and knowing she's safe ......
I couldn't even go to the loo without her following me ......
Currently on my lap purring away, so I hope we have broken the back of things!!!!

Isn't it lovely when you're the absolute centre of their world, and you cant move without having a Klingon? :evillaugh: When we had Ross, he used to suckle on my earlobe. It was weird at first, but I quickly got used to it, and took it as a huge sign of his love and his trust in me.

I'm going out later for a cup of tea in an attempt to start the weaning off me process...I've got a job to do and have had to take leave to get her through this rocky patch.....wish I could give it up and spend all my time with her!!!

Oh Hollycat - dont do yourself an injustice. :-: There are a number of knowledgable Cat Dads on here, and you're one of them. After all, you know just the right cat sized space to make on your bookshelves to accommodate one standard sized cat. :hug:

Afternoon everyone!
Martha continues to do really well!
She's eating mainly by herself but sometimes needs a little encouragement. So affectionate, and really playful now. I've left her this afternoon to do a half day in the office which I think will be good for us both!!! Going to the vets tomorrow to get clean bill of health and hopefully no more syringe meds!!! Fingers crossed that she's over this horrid time.

Poor Martha!
Having been bright and playful and eaten a few kibbles, kitten milk .... she just puked and then had diahrea in her litter tray. She's now sleeping in her little bed poor lamb but breathing quite quickly.
Naturally I'm now worried about her now. She has been eating spiders today and one big one. Any pearls of wisdom gratefully received. :thanks: :scared:

Hello ladies!
Martha fine this morning had me up at 5.15 purring and meowing! Had kibbles by herself, no puke or diarohea evidence anywhere so just a blip! Vet pleased with her progress. She's put on 60g since Monday and temp normal but still 'skinny'..... She's on my lap now dreaming away, and booked in for first vaccination next Sat! Just got to wean her off her recovery AD food and onto kitten food proper but vet happy for her to have it bit longer!! Need to keep my eye on her bowls.....as we stopped antibiotics and laxative today!!!! :Luv: :Luv2:

She just wanted company!
Last night was better we put one of her beds outside our bedroom door!
Small amount of howling but nothing then til 6.30.
She still needs encouragement to eat and drink though
But I'm clearing lots of wees and poops so she must be eating. Apart from breakfast she didn't eat or drink during the day today until I got home. And then I had to encourage her ......
Because she's under weight I'm scared stiff she'll not put enough weight on but she's playful and kittens otherwise!!

Poops and wees are good :) Playful is good. Some kittens do need encouragement to eat - some are little gannets, but it sounds like Martha isn't among the latter.
Moray had been underfed when we got him - in fact he was ultimately abandoned with his sister in an empty flat without food or water for a week. He was small and underweight when we got him. he improved steadily, but even today he doesnt have a arge appetite and is easily satisfied with a smaller meal, so try not to worry too much. If she's bright eyed and interested one minute, and sleeping after play the next, that's normal behaviour for a small kitten. :hug:

Had a rubbish nights sleep she meowed off and on through the night outside our bedroom door. I've decided to put her in the kitchen tonight, so we don't get disturbed! I'm works ng from home this afternoon so hopefully can monitor feeding and encourage her a little. Though she's eaten 3 times since 5.15 this morning!!! :shocked:
Got to get up now and try and get myself in shape for work!! :Crazy:

Does she usually sleep in your bedroom?
Just a thought, but if she doesn't you may want to start letting her. Just a personal view, but I think it's easier to give cats the run of the house, and then they tend to feel more reassured that it's "all theirs" in terms of territory. Not only that, but a determined cat, especially as they grow, will make repeated efforts to access closed door rooms, often scratching or damaging paintwork or flooring in the process.
Unless you have really strong objections to her being in your room, I'd probably allow her access, and it may stop her from crying if she wakes feeling lonely or hungry. :hug:
Mind you, I am biased. I'm not a very good sleeper, but one of my great delights is being joined by one or both of the boys and having snoozles together til daybreak comes or the alarm goes off. :shy: I've never minded being woken in the wee small hours, but it's not everyone's cup of tea, I agree. :hug:

We both really need our sleep and I wake easily so a little body in the bed would likely cause more disruption and she mainly wants to play after a good purr down your ear!
I think for our health and sanity keeping her in her own space out of earshot is better for us, so will give it a shot and let you know :thanks: :hug:

Hello purrfect people!
Little update from Martha ....
Had her first jab yesterday, gained 100g last week so vet please, and we now agree she's about 9 weeks.
Tummy and bottom all functioning well. She has been given a clean bill of health ..... So onwards and upwards!

She is beautiful. So pleased to read the whole thread in one go and see she is well.
I was reluctant to have our 1st kittens in our room as I am a light sleeper, and I thought they would startle me awake.
I caved in after a short time, and at 1st it was a novelty for them and they were naughty. And then they settled into a routine, and it didn't bother me.
Now we have all 4 with access to everywhere at anytime. Some nights when My big lad jumps on me en route to somewhere important, it does wake me. He weighs aprox 7kg(not fat he's big boned)lol
But the lovely cuddles I get from the youngest are precious as he isn't generally a cuddler, just early hours of morning.
Maybe try her when you aren't needing to get up for work, have a play session before bed and get her into a routine, we did
Play, Dreamies, Sleeps.
Mostly works, give it a few nights trail, you know you want to.lol

Sue there has been a few nights recently where I've threatened to shut them out of the room, and then the next night they are cuddly again, funny how quickly you forget the night before!
I have a glass of water by the bed, once I've had My share the cats have it, but its handy if they are being naughty as I flick a couple of drops at them.
Wordy like to get into a gap between the pillows, if there isn't one he has us well trained by his tapping paw to move ours over.
Charlie likes to be on My pillow, and the sound of his amazing purr is very relaxing.

Couldnt agree more - I love to fall asleep to the sound of them purring. It's so therapeutic. Ross used to suckle on my right earlobe, and curl into my shoulder and the crook of my arm. He also used to drink from my glass of water.
Tinks likes to drape himself over my ankles, and Moray prefers to snuggle under the duvet, draped over my tummy or hip (he actually likes to knead my belly to get himself off to sleep, so the first few minute can be painful, but if I gentle hold his paws, or stroke them, he just flexes into my fingers instead, then we all drop off)>
I didnt get any cuddles last night, and I was like... :-: :-: :evillaugh:

My nephew is the latest to fall under her spell and pops in on his way home from school to play with and feed her :Luv:
She's a little monkey though.... Not eaten much wet food today and is avoiding her kitten food and only eating the AD recovery..... She will eat her kibbles though but snacks as opposed to main meal lol!!

Thats good that she is seeing someone else, also good news about her eating, mine don't eat all of their food in one sitting, but eat their biscuits throughout the day, and then they have the rest of the days potion in the evening.
Maybe she doesn't like the texture of the kitten food, is the AD a pate type food? Maybe look at a similar textured wet food to the AD.
Also have you seen how much the kibbles swell in water? Maybe her little tummy is full with the kibble. :)

We've only had one cat who pulled it over - once, and once only in his 20 years with us, bless his paws. beyond that he'd content himself with swatting the odd bauble. :)

In other breaking news, the little sweetheart has put on 140g this week ..... So continues to grow well and at 10 weeks she weighs in at 940g (minus a poo :rofl:) so am very happy she's growing well. We had lovely Mummy time last night with lots of cuddles and purring....

Morning!
Advice please if you can!
Martha had her chest shaved to get blood from her jugular 3 weeks ago and fur been growing back. No problems.
This morning she has a small area where she was shaved which looks like it's sore pink flesh, prob no more than 5mm area, and in herself is very happy normal and purry. Right now she's lying across my chest purring happily.
Any thoughts and should I take her to the vets?

Hi everyone,
Little Martha had just caught her chest with her dew claw so needs a little barrier cream a la Vaseline to keep it moist and not scabby (nice)!!!!
She's been loved to pieces by her big sisters Amelia and Lily so a very happy scrumbly pussy cat!!!
Vet even said she's got a little tum so ease back on the feeding lol :Crazy:

When Tinks honours us with his presence on the bed, he'll quite often hook his paw about my leg and pull me in closer. Clearly I do suspect it's simply as a comfy perch, but my OH tells me that I'm so bony, it can't possibly be for comfort, so it must be for love. :evillaugh:

Hello lovely Purrfect People!
Just wanted to post a little update on our princess!
Martha is out of the woods now. At 13 weeks she weighs 1.33kg so is where she should be! She eats mainly on her own a mix of wet and dry food. She's affectionate and fun in equal measures and my constant companion! So her rocky start is over finally.....next trauma....the Xmas Tree saga!

Soooo much been happening I've just not had time to post!!
Well little Martha is now nearly 6 months old, and is been chipped and spayed tomorrow :scared:
Hopefully she will be a good little pussy cat and everything will go smoothly. I let her into the back garden for the first time yesterday for about 10 mins..... Too cold for Mummy to stand out with her any longer!!!

Martha doing super well. Nurse at vet pleased with her progress ..... She needs to use her tray a bit more (she's not eating tonnes just yet so understandable)!! She's just 2.3kg now at 6 months and is probably going to be a small kitty always which I'm hsppy about!!! She's still the apple of my eye and currently dnoozing in her bed on top of the sofa!!!

Moray is also a small cat - he's got some maine coon ancestry and by rights should be a big handful of a lad, but because of his poor early start, he's only wee, but I dont mind cos there's so much of him to love. Its taken 18 months but our tiny gurlcat Kuki is now a healthy 4kgs. I thought at 6 months and 1.9 kgs she would stay tiny but she has thrived and is now a perfectly formed pantherette :Luv: with the most amazing tail and huge paws!
Her big brother Kato is apparently 6.5 kilos of solid muscle who goes out looking for fights with foxes :shocked: and has a permanent black eye (this despite the fact he is all black!)

If I remember right, my lovely gurl cat Lulu was only just over 6lbs. Zoonie is a bit like Alfie, 1 year old and nearly 5kg of muscles oh and he's a wuss too :rofl:

It is with a heavy heart that I write tonight.
I have developed Asthma quite badly in the last month and ended up in hospital last weekend. The inhalers aren't really helping and having been free of the condition for about 15 years I am really struggling. I love my kitten, and was bereft at the thought of rehoming her last weekend. This week, whilst I've tried to fight it, my symptoms are not improving and I cannot continue like this for her sake or mine. I'm in utter turmoil but not being able to breathe is literally killing me. My husband will be beside himself even though he's sensible and recognises my health is most important. I can't go on like this, so if anyone can offer any health advise so I can avoid my worst fears please do share with me.

I really hope you can find some way to keep Martha As an asthma sufferer myself virtually al my life, 50+ years, I too had a severe reaction to cats when I was very young so I know what it's like. I still have a reaction now and again but only in the summer. Maybe antihistamines can help, worth a try. Do you have inhalers?
As you may know it's not actually the cat that you are allergic too but the dander, saliva and urine and things that they can bring in with them, mould spores and the like. I read somewhere that there are some wipes you can get to help keep the dander down. I will see if I can find it again.
I really don't know what else to suggest and that you can overcome this and keep Martha

Oh lawks this is a real set back. Can you get her into care for a couple of weeks and see if the asthma improves? It may not be her. :shify:
I suffer mildly myself and know that HEPA vacuum filters work only if they are properly cleaned, also bamboo bedding is brilliant, Petalcleanse applied to a kitchen towel and wiped over the cat daily keeps dander at bay, use in a spray liberally around your environment too and anti-allergenic wipes handy to clean up after petting sessions are a must. Meanwhile, keep her out of your bedroom, have your family deal with the litter tray and have them groom her frequently to reduce shedding and dander transfer. All these things will help reduce your symptoms but whether it's enough to minimise your asthma symptoms only testing will tell.

It started with itchy tubes (ears/throat) and sneezing so I started on antihistamine. They didn't really help much. Then I started getting chesty coughing, short of breath. As had asthma with my other cats, I got an inhaler from docs but had to use it loads before gave me any relief, and then was a bit jittery as used so much!! Now have steroid inhaler and ventolin. I've still not got my symptoms under control and fortunately booked review next Thurs with my GP. I've been keeping her out of the bedroom for a week or so and I feel fine in there, and symptoms not a problem, I also sleep without coughing which I used to do when she was allowed in, but she never slept with me in the night, just came in with me if I was drying my hair and sat on my lap or window cill. At the moment I feel fine, I'm still in bed not chesty or anything. It's in the lounge I can't breathe. I ordered petal cleanse and air cleanse as both had good reviews....am just waiting for them to arrive!!! Ironically Amazon were supposed to deliver yesterday but didn't for some reason!! I wear rubber gloves for the tray and wash her food bowls in hot soapy water with gloves, although I must admit that I was a bit lax for a few weeks and skipped gloves so that may have contributed. I'm now more fastidious again. My vet said they have had good results removing the anal gland in cats who's owners are asthmatic, anyone heard about that?? We are moving overseas in 3 weeks to an island near the beach. If I can hang on she'll be put out all day (after settling in). Which should help. Can't have a cat flap as would have to go into my bedroom!!!! I'll look at air filter and Hepa Hoover as also heard these help. It's just so upsetting given all we've been through with her. Does anyone have any other ideas which may help??

This might be a bit of radical thinking but have you tried breathing through your nose to help with your asthma? I thoroughly recommend "Close Your Mouth" self-help Buteyko manual by Patrick McKeown which taught me about the issues related to over-breathing has helped my Asthma a lot.
I wheeze less and sleep better, have more energy, I'm less grumpy, my throat isn't dry and scratchy all the time, I'm warmer, I think it even helped me to lose some weight. You can read a few pages for free on Kindle sample. :) You'll find your nasal passages clear quite quickly, there's even a technique for clearing a perpetually blocked nose which was a light-bulb moment for me! Asthma can be scary so if you're ready to turn things around for yourself this may be a starting point for you as it was for me (I no longer need my inhaler, it's in my bag but I haven't used it in months, and I now have 8 cats!).
It sounds as if you're just starting on your combatting Asthma journey, frankly so many people are slaves to their inhalers (and yes they do work and if you need to use it, use it as often as you feel it's required), but there are so many things you can do to clear the air around you, the air you intake and and the way you breath that will reduce your symptoms and make you feel far more confident.
Try the book, a few hours investment may change things for the better for you too, and this time next week you may be planning Martha's future with your family instead. :hug: :hug:

Well a week on from my hospital visit and we seem to be doing much better. I invested in a new Hoover yesterday.....I knew the old one was a bit past it...but after a session around the house yesterday I could see it had not been effective at all, and I felt quite ashamed (being so house proud)! This evening whilst I am marginally asthmatic, she's on my lap without me coughing uncontrollably, something I feared I'd never be able to do again. I've sprayed some air-cleanse this afternoon and am going to hoover again tomorrow to keep things as clean as possible. I'm breathing with my mouth shut as well (something my husband thought impossible), so I hope to be able to report that things continue to improve for us and will let you know how we're doing soon.

Am also hoping these measures will be successful for you. I know a few people who have asthma and cats, and the two arent necessarily mutually exclusive, but much depends on how an individual feels they can manage their condition. :hug: I know you'd be devastated if you had to part from your lil baby girl, and I'm sure she'd be equally bereft without her Mum. :hug:

Purrfect people, today another good day! Used my preventer and blue inhaler when got up, not needed antihistamine or any top up puffs all day. Have hoovered again, another good crop of dirt (but this may be something to with all the dust were kicking up whilst decluttering our house and packing things up)!!! Lil M on my lap snoozing and I am not tight chested or coughing!!! I think a combo of the stress of a move, more dust in the air and an ineffectual Hoover may be the reasons I was so ill! My petal cleanse arrived today so plan to start introducing that to our routine tomorrow! Will keep you all posted......

Glad everything is going better for you MM. I still have problems with my asthma, non cat related. Perfumes, aftershave, household cleaners especially bleach based products and any aerosol. I can only use roll on deodorants. I do use Febreeze. It might be worth looking into for you ;D

Soooooo much to do .... downsizing to smaller place so thinning out current contents.
Did not use inhalers or antihistamine at all yesterday. Breathing back to normal amazing!!!! Convinced hoovering key to reinstated good health (touch wood)! Emptied Hoover (again) and washed out cylinder as very dusty indeed!!!! Martha enjoying new freedom outdoors, and a happy puss! A healthy 2.6kg at weigh in on Monday.....put her in shopping bag to weigh her on scales :rofl: now nearly 7 months!!

So I thought not sleeping from 2am was hard!! Today has been trauma after trauma, ending with Martha being chased by next doors dog. In the process of scrabbling up a tree to get away she's punctured her leg and potentially torn her knee ligaments. I couldn't get her out of the tree she was paralysed with pain and fear. When I eventually got hold of her and took her in she rushed off on 3 legs. I raced to the vets where she's spending the night to stop her from trying to jump before they X-ray and treat her knee and wound in the morning. 2 weeks tomorrow I am moving ....... Suffice to say if anyone place a straw on my back I may just crumble completely. Positive prayers please for Martha who's fast running out of lives.

Will let you know how she's doing once checked in with the Vet! My neighbour who's dog chased her was very concerned. It's not the dogs fault either. He was just acting instinctively so no one is to blame. I don't know its one that my after another!!

I'm not altogether sure I agree there, MM. I've been a lifelong dog owner (until the last three years)
Our beloved old Paddy was once chased by a dog which wouldve killed him if it had caught him, but he had the good sense to head fr a tight space the dog couldnt follow. The dog, in it's rage, went to bite me as I tried to restrain it. Luckily, he didnt do much damage, but it couldve been a whole lot worse.
The dog was visiting our neighbour, and the woman who owned it knew full well it hated cats, but she persisted in letting it off it's lead even though she knew the cul de sac had no fewer than 5 cats living there at the time. I love dogs almost as much as I love cats, but a responsible dog owner should know what their dog's reaction is to stimulus and should take steps to make sure it remains under control.
I wonder if she'd be quite so concerned if you sent her the vet's bill for Martha's treatment. Just saying..... :hug:
Anyway, getting worked up about it wont change anything at this stage, but it sounds like it's just as well you're moving soon.
You may find when Martha comes home her confidence will have taken a bit of a knock, and you may have to work with her in that respect, especially with the move pending. She may well be her old rumbunctuous self of course, but worth bearing in mind she might not.
A change of environment on top of this could make her a bit wary. Lots of Martha's Mummy cuddles are in order I think when you get your little girl back home. :hug: :hug:

Might be worth mentioning to neighbour MM that her dog could get knocked over, when chasing a cat, if off a lead. That's how I put it to an elderly chap up the road and dog always on a lead now...... at least when he is walking past our house :shify:

Thanks for your support. Said dog was in fact in his own garden so quite within his right to chase anything. Problem is he'd been kennelled for the last few days so Martha had been visiting his patch unaware she was trespassing!!!!!
I think she'll be quite wary of the big wide world after this, she was just getting her sea legs when this happened. She's quite timid most of the time and jumpy (like her mum)! I'm just anxious about the convalescing period. She had an op this afternoon, wound took some cleaning before being stitched, and she's damaged her knee but the vet said she's Young and it will heal! She's there again tonight to keep her calm and she can sleep off the anaesthetic....she was scary after she'd been spayed!!! She won't thank me for putting her in a crate when she's home but she needs to not jump!!!
Anyway at least Martha didn't get bleach in her eye today unlike mummy who ended up in a&e!!!!! A story for tomorrow

Any tips re collars?
Marthas had her bandage off and now has to wear a collar which she's struggling with but it's only been since 5.30. I'm sleeping downstairs though I've crated her so I can keep an ear out!!! It's ridiculous......

I know some have had limited success with inflatable collars, but I think Carol used a type of covered foam collar which worked better, though I cant recall what it was called.

We used this type of collar to stop Bobby fussing with his eye when it became infected. Initially had the smallest size but found he was able to still kick his eye using his back leg so got the next size up. Bob is very lanky though. Our vet stocks them so suggest you ring your vet. It was just less stressful for Bob and allowed him access to food bowls with more ease.

I don't know if I ordered it that it would arrive in time. She's bsck at the vets on Friday that'll be 8 days after her Op. Not sure when they would remove stitches. There's only 2 stitches. Didn't have a great night which was to be expected. I think it's more a case of getting used to it for both of us. Certainly can't go to work and leave her. I took it off whilst she used her tray and ate a bit this morning. I've put her on cushions on top of her crate now where she's going off to sleep. At least she can look out of the window!! I'm shattered though lol nevermind her!!!

I've taken the plunge and just ordered a small one from
amazon - found out she's to have this on for another 8 days whilst wound gets aired and heals ready for stitches to come out!!!! Can't cope with the horrid plastic thing get gave us. Will also help when hubby is home tomorrow so I can at least go to the toilet in peace, nevermind start the packing up of the house!!!!!

If you ordered from VetUK they are usually pretty quick. Just so very important that she allows the wound to heal.
As a wound heals it usually becomes a bit itchy which is the time that a cat will be more likely to interfere with it :scared: I hope she is comfortable and that you find some way to soothe your nerves :hug: :hug: :hug:

Out of sheer desperation I ordered express delivery!!! So should be here before 1pm tomorrow!!! I can't cope with 3 hours sleep!!! I am bad sleeper anyway and on top of an international house move next week this may we'll be the straw that broke the camels back!!! Anyway the little darling is on cushions on top of her crate watching the world go by. I've already booked in to the vets a week on Sat at our destination to have her wound and knee checked and hopefully have stitches taken out!!!

Apple for being AWOL, the last 5 months have been quite hard at times.
The move overseas went well, but I've been so home sick and Martha been my constant companion. She's had a few vet visits..... Ticks, allergic reaction to ticks, and a hind paw covered in what could only be described as tar!! But she settled well and goes out most of the day, but as she's turned out to be a mouser we can't let her come and go as were in rented accommodation!!! She's also v scared of other cats, one harasses her quite a lot. We had a trip back to the UK at the weekend and I put her in a lovely cattery for the first time, I was in bits!! Cattery and lady who runs it lovely, I checked them all out. But when I picked her up yesterday he bed was wet in one patch and we think she'd wee'd!!! Why would she do that. She's back home now and looked fine when I picked her up. Back to her normal routine so I'm not worried though had to wash her bed twice!!!

The weeing is territorial. I suspect she wanted to mark her scent on her bedding to stake out her claim. She'll have been anxious without you, and they dont know that when we part from them, that we're definitely coming back. We always try to leave the suitcases out for a couple of days before we travel, to give the boys a chance to investigate them, and trigger the reminder that when they come out, we will be going away, but that we do come back.
If you need to put her in a cattery again, try giving her something of yours to keep - a toy which you've slept with perhaps, or a towel, old dressing gown or nightie - anything which will help to comfort her.
I also do tell ours that I'll be away for however many sleeps, and I count them down on y fingers for them while I tell them. Sounds daft, but hey - if it helps! :shy:

I'd taken her bed from home as I thought it would comfort her, but she wee'd in that so must have been upset. I washed it twice lol. She's got back in it this evening and seems settled again. I'll definitely take something that has my scent on it instead thanks for the suggestion. The cattery owner said she was scared of other cats, she is very timid, doesn't like loud noises or movement. She can also be a bit unfriendly but at other times she'll sit on your lap and enjoys a scratch/stroke.
Anyway she's back there again next weekend as we're away again for a couple of days. It's safest for her there.

I guess it's been a lot for her to cope with of late - the international travelling, new home, new smells, new experiences etc. And of course the ticks (narsty blighters!)
The cattery will have looked and felt strange to her, and she wouldnt have known that you were coming back. By giving her something of yours with your scent as well as her own, she may feel more secure.
I remember when we had both Paddy and Tess (our dog), I worried myself sick about putting them into a cattery and kennels when we had our first holiday after Mum died (she used to look after ours so very well when we were away). Paddy was fine - took it all in his stride, but Tess didn't take it at all well, and her confidence was shot to pieces when we returned. She'd been well taken care of, but had pined so much, it set us back with her progress substantially. When we first got Tess she was a rescue dog. She hadn't been deliberately mistreated, but she hadnt had a great start to life, and had existed as an outdoor dog, eating a diabolical diet which left her with health problems. She wouldnt come in to a house withut trembling, she got separation anxiety, she would chew and throw up and defecate. It took us two years to sort her out, so she was a happy, healthy, confident dog, and unfortunately after her kennel stay, she was a wreck. We had to begin all over again. She was worth it though. She was a wonderful dog.

Everyone who meets her remarks on how tiny she is. I guess she will always be small but she's healthy enough if not timid!!! Am resolved to get a water pistol to ward off other cats ...... She needs protecting!! :shify:
Anyway, we plod on and hope her next visit is wee free! She knows we'll be back now though so hopefully all will be well.
