Title: WONDERFUL WINSTON
Post by: maryas on August 08, 2014, 20:41:31 PM
Oh God, I wish I didn't have to say this but the wonderful ginger boy went to The Bridge this evening.

It was an extremely hard decision for Gill to make but it was the right one

She was out for a while taking Treacle to his new owner and when she got back home he had another do but Gill knew it was worse than the others and she phoned me to ask what she should do.  She had phoned the vet and he was out on an emergency and was asked to go at 6.30 p.m. for him to look at Winston.  Gill was bothered that she might have to have Winston pts and wanted that to happen at home.  The nurse had said that the vet could do more for him at the surgery and I said that if it came to that it didn't really matter where he was so long as Gill was with him.

She phoned me later to say that it was bad news and he had gone  :( :'( :Luv2:   Gill is heart broken and I don't suppose I helped crying on the phone with her either.  I had the pleasure of meeting Winston last year and he was gorgeous.  He was so cute when he was licking Gill's nose bless him. :Luv2:

I really hope there is a M&S at The Bridge because Winston will still expect his prawns every Saturday  :Luv2:

I'm so sorry, Gill.  You tried so hard for him and did everything you possibly could but sometimes there is nothing further that you can do except let them go    Doesn't make it any easier though.  Play hard at the bridge, Winston.  I'm certain there will be prawns there.  Say hello to Jaffa for me.

Just phoned Gill to see how she is.

She was up most of the night with Winston on her knee singing to him - 'I've got you babe' by Cher  :Luv2:

She bought a wicker coffin a while back for him and placed him in it this morning and tied it up with a black ribbon to take him to the crem.  She will pick his ashes up on Tuesday.  She has chosen an unusual casket for him and will decide what to have written on it.

The other cats are acting different and being extra loving with her  :Luv2:

Good news she got today from the lady she took Treacle to - she adores him and will be with her forever.

Thanks everyone, Gill will get back to you all when she feels more up to it.

Gill, I forgot about that portrait of Winston that you wanted to do of a ginger cat - it seems ages ago - looking good.

Gill was so pleased to find a fantastic home for Garfield/Treacle.  She also has her new addition, Merlin that she rescued the other week.  He is dong great and she's had the all clear from his blood tests and getting him chipped on Monday. Ginny has really settled in with her now too, sleeps with Gill every night on the bed.  Pandora, Cody and Smudge are all their usual selves.

Just to say thanks everyone , just can't get my head round the fact he has gone .
Spent so much time nursing him, I feel lost.
Will do a thread on Rainbow bridge when I feel more up to it.
I wake up every morning feeling like someone has kicked me in the stomach  :'(

Gill ,the picture is fabulous , Winston would have loved it too .

I know.  That feeling on waking is one of the most hideous of them all.   You couldnt have done more for him if you tried Gill.  In time, the good memories will begin to take the place of your losses, but it will take time.

Thank you Gill I am pleased you like it  ;D ;D

I agree with Sue but it can take a long time and was like you nursing Napoleon and then visiting eavery day at the vets for about a month.

I hadnt got over him when I lost Ducha totally unexpected and still not over him.

Every cat has their own very special meaning to us and am sure it will take you a while to get over Winston

This thread can be moved to Rainbow Bridge to start it off if you like,,,,,,,,,,,,,just ask and it will be done

I'm sure it is harder when looking after them has been a big part of everyday life - the absence of that routine is added to the absence of the much loved patient, so the hole in your life is that bit bigger

he stayed with you as long as he could, and he is now at peace - may you be at peace too, Gill, and able  soon to remember with pleasure all the good times you had with him

The pictures below are Winston in his younger days when he was fit and able and could see.
It was in the last year or so he lost his sight and his health got worse.
Its taken me a long time to come back to this thread  as its very raw and only 4 weeks tomorrow since he went to join Smartie and all the others.
With my cats its like a marriage I guess, in sickness and in health !
I have nursed so many through sickness and Smartie and Winston were the most wonderful patients .
They were loved and spoilt .
Winston loved his prawns and cod loin every Saturday without fail.
He run me ragged in his younger days , if I didn't open the gate he would just jump it and walk down the path to the corner, knowing full well I was watching him from the gate.
he would then stop and look back and I would just shake my head and he would turn round and start walking back to me. I would then meet him ,pick him up and put him on my shoulder so he could rest on my arm and look over my shoulder ( what a weight he was too !) .
I would tell him he was King of the World and he was to me . He climbed the top of all the trees in the garden, I spent ages watching him in the fields to make sure he was safe .
I lost him one night , even though he was near the gate ,he had gone by the time I got outside.   I walked round the fields in the dusty grass up to my waist, cut my leg on barbed wire, drove round in my car.
4 hours I looked, no tea , just looking for him.
I had shone a torch over the neighbours gardens and still couldnt find him.
I sat in tears on the doorstep at 2am , knowing I couldn't go to bed without finding him.
I again shone the torch right close to the neighbours fence this time instead of across the garden and I heard this sleepy meow.
He was fast asleep about 50 yards away in the cool shadow of the fence.
I have never been so relieved in my life.
Hope you have Joined Smartie, Bungly, Fifi, Bonnie, Sophie, Sacha, Oscar, Max and Leo. and are having a big party with M and S prawns and loads of catnip .

Missing all your cuddles and Winstons nose kisses.
A piece of my heart is with every one of you and when my last cat comes up there to be with you , so will the last piece of my heart and I will hopefully follow to be with you all forever.
Love you all so much and my heart is breaking without you .
