My friend and her Hubby have had a stray cat coming through their cat flap at night. They saw this same cat last year but didn't know who it belonged too. This year it has appeared in their garden and is looking desperately thin. It has acne all over it's tail and looking in a poor state.
No one in the area knows it.
They have tried many rescue centres in the Leicester area but have had no joy. They don't want to take it to the RSPCA because of fear of them putting it down.
The Husband would keep it but the wife says 2 cats are enough.
I have asked them to feed it and give it a worming tablet, also take it to a vet to see if has been chipped and neutered. Hubby said that if he did that then he would want to keep it and that would cause problems with the wife.
All I know is that this cat is White and has cat acne and desperately thin.
Any suggestions or anyone would like a poor little White cat :(

Loughborough cat sanctuary? Wish I was nearer I'd take the poor thing in.

Not all RSPCA centres put cats down you could check your local centres policy.
Could you not help him catch it and take it to the local vets. It could be someone's lost pet.
Seems a bit of a strange attitude, I can't help it otherwise it will be mine. So don't do anything and let it possibly have a slow lingering death.

I know it's a little further away but have you tried Coventry cat rescue? Angie runs it as a Purrs Registered Rescue and may know someone locally who can help out? Worth a try if he's starving.
Hubby sounds like he wants to help desperately, can't he reason with the wife that the very least they can do is a chip scan? Then the vet can advise what is the best action to take.

I had a similar problem with a stray, in the end the best compromise was that we took him to the vet and had him treated for an ulcer on his eye. He stayed with a rescue whilst recuperating as we couldn't keep him in with ours. The lady who runs the rescue had him neutered and then we released him back in our garden. He stays with us now but as an outdoor cat and gets regular meals, an outside kennel and vet treatment if needed.
Doesn't cause any trouble with our two and he is happy enough (well, in winter he would prefer to be in but his shelter is then moved into the shed so he doesn't get too cold. He would have died without intervention so I'm glad we could help him out, he doesn't cause much more expense than our two either.

Thank you all for your help and tips.
They are going to start feeding him. The cats protection are going to sort him our with the neutering worming and fleas and the acne.
A lady has offered to have him as a Barn cat which I think will be great for him as he has been use to the freedom.
Someone will be there all Day and he will be fed twice a day.
So a very good out come. ;D
