Title: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on October 09, 2012, 01:04:26 AM
It’s been a while hasn’t it and I know regular readers will be wondering how the Inn is coping so here goes.

First of all I have to re-iterate our gratitude to the many people who have donated so generously in memory of Teresa.  We have wasted no time in dipping into the funds to put into action a plan that she herself formulated but sadly wasn’t able to see through to fruition.
Briefly, the pens at Paws Inn are either in a brick built block or in wooden sheds.  Historically the wooden sheds would not be used in the winter because of difficulties in keeping them warm but with the number of homeless cats at an all time high and re-homing at an all-time low (nationally not just locally) that is no longer an option.  The last couple of winters we have managed by having them half full and putting large oil-filled radiators in the empty pens but this year we need all the space we can get so work is now well underway to fully insulate and line-out the wooden sheds so that they don’t need such a large heat source and can be filled to capacity.  With even kittens finding it hard to find homes we have also looked at how the space is used and have managed to create another large pen suitable for families of growing kittens or long term residents who need extra space while awaiting a hard-to-find forever home.  If we’d thought about it earlier we could have taken ‘before’ pictures and ‘work in progress’ pictures but we didn’t and without those the ‘after’ pictures won’t really mean anything.

Now I know it’s the cats you’re really interested in so I’ll post updates in stages.  There have been numerous vaccinations as you would expect and Piri, Teze, and Athena’s babies’ Old Gobbo, Puck and Peaseblossom have been spayed or neutered as appropriate.  The two boys Puck and Old Gobbo went to their forever home on Sunday.  ;D  A family fell in love with them quite some time ago but one of the children was showing signs of allergy so they thought it best to wait and see what happened.  The doctor has given him the go-ahead so now its smiles all round.  :)

Little Follyfoot managed to charm her way into a lovely forever home a few weeks ago without even making it to the website.  :Luv2:

It will be the turn of the three B’s (Breeze, Bayleaf and Bee) for the op in the next week or so.

The bottle-feds have been well looked after and fully weaned by the vet nurses who took over their care.  They are now 7 weeks old  and are currently staying with Debbie for a few days but are expected to return to the Inn shortly.  You may remember the brain-storming session at which Debbie, Teresa and myself named the four boys and one girl Basil, Parsley, Thyme, Sage and Dill but either the vet nurses weren’t impressed with our efforts or in the confusion of T’s emergency hospital admission the information didn’t get relayed to them because they have returned with the names Ron, Rupert, Cyril and Tess.   The more astute among you will have noticed that while five went only four have come back but it’s good news rather than bad.  ;D  Number five (whatever his name) has found a forever home with one of the nurses who just fell in love with him and couldn’t let him go.  :Luv2:

This is how they were last time you saw them.  Take a good look because with Teresa gone Paws Inn no longer has the expertise to bottle feed kittens so sadly it’s not a sight you will again. :(

I’m sure Debbie will provide some up-to-date pics soon.  :naughty:

The two gingers Sonny and Jimbo are still small for their age so not yet ready for rehoming but are getting there and everybody who meets them falls little bit in love with them.  :Luv2:

Pudding’s babies are now 6 weeks old and beautiful.  Toffee pudding the tabby is very small compared with the others but has been vet checked and declared healthy.  :Luv2:  The flash was on for the pics so they all look a bit startled.

The Houdinis who have been staying with me are still in residence, or rather 3 of the 5 are.  ;)   Flash and Tim went to their forever home last Saturday and we are hopeful that a recent enquiry might result in at least one more home.  :crossed:

So lovely to hear such positive news from Paws Inn :)

Hope everything goes to plan with the insulating project, I remember earlier this year Teresa was telling me that the extra heating costs for the outdoor pens was at least £5 per day - that's £150 a month

Fab news about the lucky ones who have new homes, will update the sites when I'm not on my phone!

Couple of Q's re pics, which one of the three B's has been substituted by the lovely Follyfoot? :naughty: :shify:

Is that Flash & Tim in their new home? Must have been very hard to let them go

It's so good to see an update Carol, and thank you so very much from all of us who follow this thread, as we all know how much hard work goes into keeping everything running smoothly, and these last few weeks have been anything but smooth.

Pudding and her babies are just amazing, and look at those little herbs!!   Loving their new names as much as their old ones, but would tend to think of them now as Ron Basil, Rupert Parsley and so on..... :evillaugh:  All of them are just gorgeous.  I sincerely hope there won't be any of the kittens that grow into cats while waiting for their forever homes.  I hope that all will find very good homes before they're out of kittenhood.  But, appreciate that life never is a fairytale, so great to hear the news of the work on the sheds and pens.  I hope it's all done in no time, and will more than serve the purpose.

Thankyou for a lovely update, with good news on the rehomings.

Reading Old Gobbos name and the other sometimes bizarre names that Teresa gave the kitties made me laugh and shed a little tear for her.

I recently had an Amazon gift card for my birthday and was tempted to buy more toys for my Moggits, reading this made me remember the wish list that has been set up for Paws Inn, so with Poppys permission I've ordered a Snugglesafe heat pad with some of it. It is due to arrive after the 16th Oct.

Thanks for organising this new thread, and for the wonderful updates. I will keep my promise to Teresa, that I'll not forget the Inn, nor those who work so hard to care for the residents and newcomers alike.

Thank you Carol, thank you so much.

Carol, I don't know if you are the right person to ask about this, but do you know if the details are still valid for the Paws Inn "Amazon UK" wish list? It might be worth casting an eye over what you need now as the seasons have moved on since Teresa set this up?

Just a thought as it is a very easy and convenient way for folk to contribute (and saves you guys a trip to the shops!)  :donate:

Hi Sheila

I'm the guardian of the Wish List and liasied with those at Paws Inn fairly recently to check that what was on there was still 'wished for'. I've taken off a few bits and some things have been purchased/donated meaning they are no longer available to be purchased (eg Nicky kindly doanted the last of the 'wished for' snugglesafes so it shouldn't offer that as an option to purchase anymore). I try to pick things that are sold by Amazon itself so that postage is free as to deliver a 4 pack of cat food would cost over £12 by Royal Mail yet Amazon have the 4 packs for £12 delivered - essentially free cat food!

It's such a fabulous idea ( :thanks: to Haworth Cat rescue for the idea!) and very much appreciated by Paws Inn, both humans and felines alike!  :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Sorry for not thanking you for your thoughtfulness sooner nickynoo.   :-[   Tiggy's mum very kindly looks after the management of the Paws Inn Facebook page (she set it up and the wish list was also her idea) and she did tell me some time ago that you had placed an order and that with your order the 'number required' had been met so the item automatically disappeared from the list so  :thanks:

I'm sure it will arrive if it hasn't already done so.  Rob obviously receives all the parcels and isn't always around when the volunteers are there so there can be a delay between things arriving and us finding out.  To complicate matters further some things arrive anonymously making  keeping track of where it has all come from a bit tricky  at times but I will check when I'm over there tomorrow.

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown to Paws Inn and I would like to thank everybody for their contributions and apologise to anyone else I should have thanked personally but haven't.  :thanks:   :thanks:   :thanks:

Sheila at Helen's suggestion we did a quick review of the list at the weekend and its fine for now but many thanks for prompting us - and for the plug.  :naughty:

Helen I'll see what I can do about taking a pic of Pudding's babies on the Snugglesafe.  Since finding their feet they prefer to run around when anybody is there.  :Luv2:

Oops - looks like you beat me to it again Helen.

I shouldn’t have posted those pics because everything else is going to be an anticlimax now isn’t it.    Don’t you just love those freckles though.  :Luv2:

Where to start?  Rehomings I think.  All my fosters have now flown the nest.  ;D  Tom and Bonnie, the two remaining tabbies, went together the weekend before last but that left poor Violet all on her own - the curse of the black and white moggie.  :(  I was a bit upset that she might have a long wait for a home but just 4 days later we had an enquiry from somebody saying the black kitten they had just homed needed a playmate and asking did we have anything suitable?     Violet fitted the bill so perfectly that we didn’t let them see any of the others until they had fallen in love with her.  :naughty:  She left last Sunday and we’ve had no feedback yet so fingers crossed that its working out.  Actually they were quite taken with the hooligans (formerly the bottlefeds) as well so who knows, they may be back for more.  With a large house and 18 acres I think they might just have room don’t you?  ;)

Debbie’s foster hooligans are now down to 3 after we said goodbye last Sunday to chief hooligan Rupert (formerly Basil) who has gone to live with a relative of one of the vet nurses who helped with the bottle feeding.

That makes 10 rehomings since mid-September so you’d think there would be room at the Inn now wouldn’t you?   Sadly not, because 5 went from my house, 2 from Debbie’s house, and 2 were sharing a pen with their siblings who remain in that pen at Paws Inn.  The tenth (Follyfoot) was in an emergency collapsible pen in the lounge and that has now been dismantled.

The new pen was finished late on Sunday afternoon though and was immediately pressed into service by Pudding and her family who now have room to stretch their legs and play.  They think it’s great but I’m not sure what Cornelius thinks of his lively new upstairs neighbours.  He was in his outside run the whole time I was there yesterday.

The pen vacated by the Puddings was given a good scrubbing and handed over to Sonny and Jimbo enabling yet another collapsible from the lounge to be collapsed and stored  – only two more to go and Rob will be able watch telly again.

It’s been a busy week vet-wise with the three B’s (Breeze, Bayleaf and Bee) going for neuter or spay, Sonny and Jimbo having their first vaccinations and permanent resident Olly having his booster.  Purrs ‘old timers’ may remember that Olly (formerly Holly  ) has nerve damage and a bionic pelvis as a result of a road accident so a simple injection is not quite so simple in his case.  He has been known to scream in pain during the procedure  :'( but this time he didn’t even notice it which was a relief because it was me that drew the short straw and had to take him.  :phew:

I do have photos to attach but I've lost this post twice already so I'll try it without and see what happens.

Post by: Sue P (Paddysmum) on October 26, 2012, 17:54:55 PM

It's so good to hear what's been going on Carol - and what's been coming down in terms of collapsible pens - glad Daddy Rob is nearer being able to watch the telly now.  :)

So pleased about Violet too  :wow:

I do remember Olly, bless him - often used to chat with Aunty T about him in fact.  So pleased his injection went well.  He's a little trooper.

With regard to acquiring a Paws Inn puddy I have an open mind and an open heart and am quietly working on OH through Ross, but will accept whatever comes.

Title: Re: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on October 26, 2012, 18:03:35 PM
Next the 3 B’s, anxious to show that they’re none the worse for losing their bits.  Actually they were livelier than ever yesterday and for a moment there I sort of lost control of them with Bee in the (almost empty) food bag, Breeze on the ceiling (among other forbidden places) and Bayleaf happily murdering a soft toy on the floor.

They really do need more space poor things and were hoping to go in the new bigger pen but the Pudding family just pipped them to the post.  Of course a forever home would be the best option – any takers?  They’re such loving, friendly, lively, mischievous little troopers and nobody has yet shown the slightest interest in them.  :(

Title: Re: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on October 26, 2012, 18:05:14 PM

Title: Re: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on October 26, 2012, 18:07:23 PM
....and finally I’ll end on a similar note to the one I started on but with Sonny and Jimbo this time.  They are also anxious to show they have no after effects from their vet visit.  For some reason I have a mental block with these two and am forever asking Debbie which is which so I can’t guarantee I’ve got them the right way round.  :evillaugh:

Quick note to any potential homes in the South-east...

I'll be in the vicinity of the Inn on the morning of Sunday 4th November (well going past on the motorway) and may be able to help with a southbound transport run if so required.  :sneaky:

I'll post this in Transport section, too.

Sue, I had this problem going back a few years. I had Simba who was 3 and then got Tiger, only 6 weeks. I had a magnetic catflap so turned it round the 'wrong way' so that Simba could get out using the magnet on his collar but Tiger couldn't because he had no magnet on. It worked very well. There you go, problem solved!  :evillaugh:

The Puddings are all so cute I just want to eat them. In a cute way, not in a weird Halloween way!!   :-:

I'd like to send a present or two to the Inn for Christmas (yes, I know the auction is coming up anyway) BUT I was FINKIN' about perhaps abusing the Amazon wish list  :shy:

How's about if peeps want to donate goodies that aren't on the wish list, could we request they be put ON the wish list so we can erm...  :-[

buy them and get Amazon to cough for the postage?

Every little helps?

I like your style Sheila!  :naughty:

If you've spotted something you'd like added to the list just drop me a PM and I can add it so it can then be purchased and sent to Paws Inn with Mr Amazon kindly paying the postage! For those that haven't heard of Amazon Wish List, it's basically a list of things that are sold on Amazon. You log in to your own Amazon and you can order things from the Wish List (food, toys etc) to be sent directly to Paws Inn  ;D

I do try and add things that are sold directly by Amazon so then postage is free eg the Whiskas four packs are £12 on Amazon with FREE delivery. To post that by Royal Mail would cost £12.30 - more than the food itself

I also struck on another genius idea last night, I ordered a couple of boxes of food for the hungry Paws Inn tummies via the Amazon Wish List, but get this... I went through the Easyfundraising link that you told me about ages ago so Amazon also donate 2.5% of my order total to the Purrs Buster fund for needy cats - genius if I do say so myself!!!

Purrs peeps really are a wonderful bunch and on behalf of Paws Inn I can’t thank you enough for your continuing generosity and ingenuity.  :thankyou:

All is well with the residents of the Inn.  ;D   Well it was when I was over there on Thursday but I did notice a rather large bonfire stack in the very close vicinity so fingers crossed there aren’t too many noisy fireworks to accompany it.  :scared:

I’m wondering if there might already have been fireworks exploding because some of the cats had been unusually destructive.  :shify:

Rosalind had chewed through the protective covering we put over the flex for her heated bed and presumably also though the wire because the bed wasn’t working.  :hairrasin: Her fur didn’t look particularly spiky though and her behaviour was normal so she obviously didn’t come to any harm.  :evillaugh:

Debbie had bought some of the cheap Flectabed copies from B&M and we’d distributed them around to make extra hot spots in the bigger pens.  Piri and Teze seemed to appreciate theirs but the Pudding family and Athena & Peaseblossom had destroyed theirs.  :o  They might be fine in a domestic situation but with the best will in the world rescue cats don’t get as much stimulation as those in a forever home so look upon anything new as a challenge.  :evillaugh:  The zips on the covers were broken, the inner pad was on the opposite side of the pen to the cover and Athena & Peaseblossom had even chewed the backing off theirs and dumped it in the litter tray.  :what:  Oh well, another bright idea bites the dust.

Then there was Cornelius.  The flap to his outside run had been broken for a while leaving just a hole for the wind to howl through so when the insulation was put in he got a brand new one.   He used it without problem for all of ummmmmmmmmmmmm 2 weeks, but he’s broken that one now as well.  :sigh:  I don’t think it has anything to do with fireworks though.  :shify:  He’s got a lot bigger since losing his bits so I suspect he might actually have got stuck in it and had to force his way through.  :evillaugh:  They do make super-sized ones don’t they?

I tried to take some photos for you but with everybody in hyperactive mode it wasn’t easy.  :Nooooo:   Why is it that however many toys I get out their favourite one, without exception, is always the strap on my camera.  :evillaugh:  That’s closely followed by my shoelaces and the toggles on my fleece.  I’ve decided that interactive play really needs 2 humans because the best photo opportunities are the antics of the cats who are still penned and watching the play with envy – not the first time I’ve wished I had another pair of hands.  At least I’ve not yet reached the stage yet where I wish for 6 teats like T did.

I think the next door neighbours are a bit worried about what’s going on at Paws Inn.  Whenever I’m doing cleaning jobs I always give the cats a running commentary and I excelled myself this week.  Scratch posts cleaned and floors scrubbed I backed out of the summerhouse on my knees saying ‘I just need to get a new kitchen roll and have a wee and that’s me done.’  I then stood up to see neighbour eyeing me strangely.  :-[

Debbie has two lots of potential slaves visiting tomorrow so I’m hoping for good news before I go on my hols.  :crossed:

Great pics Carol  ;D Sorry to hear about the demise of the B&M flectabed copies! Mine is still very popular and is slept on daily and looks good as new, my boys sound very well behaved compared to the Paws Inn hooligans  :evillaugh:

Very high hedge between us and neighbours.  The oldest boy next door (about 16) started mimicking me once by "miaowing" when I was taking to Groucho.  So I asked Groucho who he thought the plonker was that was pretending to miaow like a cat .............  :innocent: :naughty:  He shut up.

I have long resigned myself to being thought of as mad eccentric by my neighbours as my house and the garden are both right next to the lane and I only have single glazing at the front of the house so no doubt they have heard me talking to and playing with the cats, "coming to get you" is a favourite game  :-[ and have probably witnessed me flinging furniture round with jar in hand when trying to catch their still living 'presents'. Thankfully my next door neighbours were not in view when I ran out of the back door taking my trousers off to release the shrew that had made it's escape there

Hope the viewings go well and some of the gorgeous residents find wonderful new homes  :)

For those who were wondering, it's perfectly normal to talk to cats  :naughty: I'm poorly today so still mooching round in my dressing gown, I've just followed Riley through the house saying 'I'm gonna whip ya' (with my dressing gown belt) in my best gruff cowboy voice  :-[ I then proceeded to whip him (obviously not properly!) making 'pa-chaw' noises as I did so. Sending top up wishes and hugs to all at the Inn, knowing Carol will be back with you all shortly........

Your timing was almost spot on Sheila – as you typed I was on my knees scrubbing scratch posts in the summerhouse and telling the kitties that if they’re good Santa (in the form of you lovely Purrs peeps) might just bring them some new ones.  Not before time as you can see from the attached pic.

Lots has been happening at the Inn while I’ve been away.  All the kittens have now had at least their first vaccs (Sonny and Jimbo have had their second) and Pudding was spayed on Tuesday.  She is none the worse for her op as can be seen by the pic of her looking inscrutable.  :shify:

Cornelius has got yet another new cat flap to replace the one he broke  ;) and the insulation of the pens is complete.  All that remains to do is to put new flooring down in the summerhouse which I think will happen this weekend.  I for one will be glad about that because I’m forever kneeling on bits of wooden litter that have got under the existing flooring and it hurts.  :owwww:  I bought myself a kneeling mat from the garden centre but what usually happens is that I still find myself still kneeling on the floor while the cats play with it.  ;D

The visits by the two lots of potential rehomers just before I went away didn’t come to anything.  :(  The couple who were looking to rehome 2 kittens around 6 months hadn’t been honest about their domestic situation but fortunately realised when Debbie was giving them the tour that taking on pets is a big commitment.   :phew:  I think it was a combination of Debbie’s wise words and the 3 B’s climbing up to the ceiling that brought it home to them.

The other couple had come to look at Pimlico but a combination of his potential health issues (which vet says could get better or worse as he grows) and the fact that he was grumpy and wouldn’t go near them made them doubtful.  All is not lost though – Debbie says they were lovely and she showed them lots of alternatives but they just couldn’t make up their minds.  They have been in touch since to say they definitely want a cat but still can’t decide.  :Dont know:  It won’t be Pimlico though because …………………………,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, drum roll ………………………………………….he has gone to his new home.  ;D  Officially he is on trial because of his health issues and the fact that he is having to integrate with other cats but his new slaves are perfect and if anybody can make it work they can.  :)  They are totally besotted with him and although its still early days Debbie has already had a text to say how well he is settling in.  ;D  ;D

Just one more thing, Toffee pudding may be small but she’s the fastest kitten in the North West and has the loudest, most sustained purr I’ve ever known.  :Luv2:

I didn’t have time for many pics but I know you like your ginger fix so here goes……

I’ve been neglecting my updates with all the excitement of the auction haven’t I?  :innocent:  There’s not much to tell over the previous couple of weeks other than lots of vaccinations, one cat almost escaping  :hairrasin: (it would have been my fault  :-[ ) and Rosalind deciding to go for a climb, losing her footing and falling onto my back, catapulting me headfirst into the corner of the platform on her scratchpost and breaking it.   It didn’t do a lot for my head either.  :owwww:

Today, however, it’s all been happening.  :bee:  A lovely couple came to look at Pudding but Debbie persuaded them that they really wanted two  :evillaugh: and they were undecided between Athena and Peaseblossom or Piri and Teze.  It has to be said that all 4 cats put on the performance of their lives.  :Luv2:  Athena was her usual ultra-friendly, lively self and wouldn’t leave the lady alone and Peaseblossom, who is usually quite shy, confidently put herself forward for strokes and chin rubs.  :)  Teze unashamedly threw herself at the man for cuddles and rolled over onto her back for tummy tickles while Piri played with the lady, deafening her with her purrs.  Who would they choose?  They said they needed time to think but have already come back to us and Athena and Peaseblossom will go to their forever home after Christmas.  :yayyy:

Meanwhile, much scrubbing and reshuffling was in progress to accommodate 5 month old Tippy and 3 month old Max.  They are unrelated but are best buddies and for very genuine reasons the family who have been trying to care for them since they arrived separately as strays find themselves unable to cope.  :(  Tippy (female) seems quite healthy but Max has a poorly tum so they are in the isolation block in what was Olivia’s pen until we find out what’s what.  Olivia has moved into what was Rosalind’s pen and Rosalind is in the lounge in a collapsible.  She seems to be viewing the move as a promotion and when I left was looking very pleased with herself.  ;D  Of course she hasn’t really met Pansydora properly yet.  :evillaugh:  They’re diva’s the pair of them and if one thinks the other is getting too much attention it could be ummm interesting.  :scared:

That reminds me, Pansydora has been to the vet this week because although she is growing lengthways she isn’t putting on any weight.  He doesn’t think there is anything untoward and has suggested we try to feed her up for 3 weeks on Sensitivity food then he’ll look at her again.  Now there is one cat who is very pleased with her medicine.  :evillaugh:  She had very bad flu shortly after arriving at the Inn and he says flu can affect the digestion as well as the lungs (she does have a sensitive tum) so maybe she isn’t absorbing all her food.    Fingers crossed that she can tolerate the new regime.

All other inmates are well.  The kittens are getting bigger and bolder by the day and we were only saying how good it is to have no vet visits pending when we learned of the 2 newbies.   :-:

No time for photography today but here are a couple of Athena and Peaseblossom taken last week and some of Tippy and Max taken before they came to the Inn.

I'm so pleased for Athena and Peaseblossom, well done Debbie! The couple who came must have "Slaves" written all over them for that sort of reaction  ;D

Just wanted to say, have shed some tears for those we've lost and loved this year, and not least of those is Teresa.  But, I like to think that right now, she'll be watching us all, surrounded by furries great and small, and keeping us all on the right track.

We miss her very much.  She can never ever be replaced, but she will always be a part of us, and her legacy continues.

Thank you to Carol and Debs, Daddy Rob and Rob Junior, and everyone who helps to keep The Inn the place Teresa created.

May tonight be a peaceful place at Paws Inn, and may Teresa's star shine brightly.   :Luv:

Sue you'll be pleased to know that at least Teresa's tradition of cooking turkey for the Paws Inn cats at Christmas is being continued.   ;D

Debbie did the honours today and delivered it this afternoon for Rob to dish out tomorrow.  I asked her on Saturday whether she'd bought a whole turkey or just a crown.  Oh just a crown she said.  Just a crown????  It weighs 3 kilos which is more than my whole turkey does so they won't go hungry.

All the cats are well.  The two newbies Tippy and Max are an absolute delight.  :Luv2: Max rolls over for tummy rubs the minute he sees you and we've realised how Tippy got her name - she has white tips to one or two toes on each paw and the white continues right under her foot. :Luv2:

Debbie had a major breakthrough on Saturday - she managed to stroke Grasshopper.  It doesn't sound much but believe me it is.  Maybe 2013 will see him in a home with his brother Ginga Ninja and friend Noodles who have both come out of their shells a lot recently.  I hope so.  Athena and Peasblossom will be going to their new home on Thursday freeing up a pen so we will be having a re-shuffle.

Anyway, the Paws Inn cats have  asked me to wish all you Purrs peeps  :merry xmas:  and to pass on their thanks for supporting them.

Some even offered to serenade you with a few of these  :xmas carol: :xmas carol: :xmas carol:

Thank you to Carol and Debs, Daddy Rob and Rob Junior, and everyone who helps to keep The Inn the place Teresa created.

May tonight be a peaceful place at Paws Inn, and may Teresa's star shine brightly.   :Luv:

Really couldn't have put this better Sue

Went to the Inn on Thursday and didn’t find any turkey so I think a good Christmas was had by all.  Apparently Grasshopper ate some of his from Rob’s hand.  ;D

Athena and Peaseblossom went off to their new home as planned and the 3 B’s have moved into the pen they vacated so now have room to work off some of their energy and hopefully won’t be quite so excitable when potential adopters come to view.  Piri and Teze also have more room now, having moved into the pen the 3B’s were in.

Olivia has been reserved and will go to her new home a week tomorrow unless the adopters change their minds and take Piri and Teze instead, which wouldn’t surprise me.  They found it so difficult to choose and would really like Olivia and Teze but we couldn’t split her from Piri.  I tried to get a final picture of Olivia but as always she looked away at the critical moment.  :shify:

The puddings are as mad as ever and the gingers have had a growth spurt.  The newbies coats are looking much healthier although some of Max’s white bits are still a bit grubby.  We’ll forgive him though because what he lacks in grooming skills he more than makes up for in the cuddling and purring stakes.  :Luv2:

Anastasia will have been back at the Inn for 12 months come the new year.  She’s very contented and has taken to cuddling up with Tula (ex-feral) who grooms her.  :Luv:  Come to think of it, she cuddles up to everybody and we all groom her.

So glad Grasshopper allowing Debbie to stroke him and having food from Rob's hand ;D That is wonderful .

Thanks for the update Carol.

Hi all,

I've been meaning to update you all with news on my Paws babies for a few weeks but been so crazily busy with work I'm a bit late sorry!

Some of you may know that I am the very, very lucky 'new' owner of Pimlico. His furry companions here with me at the moment include three other Paws babies from the last couple of years and a couple of other waifs and strays. You might recall that I was a bit hesitant to get another addition as my existing cats all get on fabulously and I didn't want to ruin the equilibrium. I'm delighted to say that he has fitted in perfectly with the rest of the 'pack'. It's truly delightful to see him playing and grooming the others. He can still be a bit of a bully but a swift swat soon puts him in his place ;)

Healthwise he seems much better now and has grown at a hell of a rate since we got him about 6 weeks ago. He's due to have his 'baubles' down at the end of January bless him.

I do have a few pics somewhere on my iPhone which I will have to post on here at a later date. Unfortunately photos of 6 black cats don't always come out the way they should and the snaps resemble the inside of a coal cellar! I'm sure I've missed a few fantatsic 'Kodak' moments recently as we've been relying on halogen heaters this last week as the boiler's been broke (why do these things always happen at this time of year?!) so myself, my other half, and all six cats have been snuggled in front of it haha. Also all six have a habit of all going to sleep on our bed together.

Thanks again all for your input when I was considering taking another cat on. I'm so happy at how the new addition has fitted into the family :) Also special thanks and sincerest apologies to Carol who kindly took the time to email me some info and I don't think I properly thanked you for that.

I shall be back soon (I promise!) with some snaps and updates of the gang.

Happy new year to all and obviously my thoughts have been with Teresa's family at this (probably very difficult) time of year,

Sarah

Thought I'd start the day with reviewing this lovely thread, and seeing such fab piccies has made me smile.  Always a good way to start a drab, dreary 2nd of January - first one back at work.

So pleased Pimlico has settled in so well  ;D  Teresa will be clapping her hands with delight  ;)

And Carol, thanks again for the wonderful updates you give us which are hugely appreciated, even if we sometimes forget to say so.  :-[

Wishing all at The Inn the very happiest of New year's with lots of good homes to come  ;D

Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on January 23, 2013, 23:26:27 PM
I’ve been neglecting my duties regarding updates haven’t I but then I’ve been neglecting my visits to the Inn as well because of a poorly puss (my Biggles, now recovered) and bad weather.

Rob and Debbie have been slaving away though and there is good news on the rehoming front.  Olivia was reserved before Christmas for collection on 5th Jan and while she was still waiting to go to her new home another potential home came long.   How ironic is that after the length of time she had been waiting without so much as a sniff of interest.   Debbie saved the day with her best sales talk and Breeze, one of the 3 B’s, got the second home instead.  ;D  Both cats have settled well and we have the pictures to prove it.  ;)

Olivia is an only cat and is being spoiled rotten.  Apparently she likes to nibble a little Brioche bread as an occasional treat which made me laugh because my two are partial to a naughty nibble of bread but have to slum it with Warburtons sliced.   Breeze went as companion to an older cat and within the first couple of days they were sharing a settee – opposite ends, but a brilliant start.  ;D  We’re delighted at that one because re-homing three together is virtually impossible, and so often a pair go first, leaving one all alone which is really sad.   It would be nice if we could find a home for Bee and Bayleaf now.  :shify:

The rehoming situation gets even more bizarre because we had no less than four enquiries about Pudding.  :-:  She chose herself a lovely home where she relocated last Saturday and Debbie worked her magic again on one of the disappointed ‘also-rans’ who took Toffee Pudding (a miniature version of her mum) and Figgy pudding (black boy).   ;D  Unfortunately nobody was interested in either Rosalind or Cornelius as alternatives to Pudding.  :(

You’d think that with all this rehoming we’d have loads of room now wouldn’t you but that’s not the case.  Just one pen was emptied as a result of all that activity and Ginger and Treacle Pudding have taken it, because the  recently created big pen they shared with the rest of their family is not easy to heat in this weather.  Meanwhile. Pansydora and Rosalind are still in collapsibles in the lounge.

Aw, Carol - the lovely Biggles.  We're so pleased he's on the mend now.

And what brilliant news from The Inn  ;D  So pleased for Olivia and for Breeze (well done Debbie  :evillaugh:) and they both look very well settled.   :)

and two of the puddings gone too!  :wow:  Am hoping that the merits of Conelius and Rosaline will become very clear to another set of re-homers who will give them the home they deserve.

Sending much love and big hugs to all at the Inn, with gentle snoozles to those for whom 'tis more appropriate.

Just a quick update on comings and goings at the inn.  18 month old Millie and her 5/6 month old kitten Ben arrived just over a week ago.  Both were well behaved in the carrier and enjoyed some fussing before being taken to the pens, at which point Debbie was treated to a performance of hissing, spitting, growling and swiping, worthy of the feistiest feral.   Ben continued to lash out for several days (I think he even bit Rob once when he was doing the feeding) and Millie took cover under her bedding, only coming out to eat.

Both had a vet visit on Wednesday, Ben for neutering and Millie for vaccinations, and after that Ben seemed calmer but Millie continued to hide.  When I went on Saturday I took Ben out of the pen for cuddles and a play with a dangly toy and he was fine, so either he’s settled down now or it was the catnip knotty I’d given him to play with before picking him up that did the trick.   As for Millie, I wouldn’t have known she was there at all but for the constant growling coming from under the bedding.  :scared:  Catnip knotty to the rescue again (thanks Tan  ;) ) and she couldn’t resist coming out for a sniff and a half-hearted poke at it, so I got a couple of pics.  She was very wide-eyed and wary, but she did stop growling – temporarily.  :evillaugh:  Fast forward 24 hours and Debbie did some pen swapping and says the change in Millie following the move was instant.  ;D  She was much more relaxed and enjoyed lots of strokes so hopefully that is continuing.  Weather permitting I’ll be over there on Wednesday so I’ll see what she’s like with me and whether Ben is still my friend.  He’s the spitting image of my Bunty so I can’t resist giving him cuddles.  :Luv2:

Tippy was spayed on Wednesday then went to her new home with best pal Max on Saturday.  ;D  The family have two boys aged 8 and 5 and Debbie says it was love at first sight – for the felines that is. :evillaugh: They were all over the boys who were thrilled to bits and very gentle with them.  Mum hopes they will now stop pining for their elderly cat who had to be pts a couple of months ago.  I think she was smitten with Tippy and Max too, but who wouldn’t be, they’re such lovely natured kittens.  She’s home all day so I’m sure they won’t want for attention, which is something they love.  All in all it sounds like a match made in heaven.  :)

We actually had lots of enquiries for Tippy and Max and Debbie showed a couple round yesterday who initially contacted us because of those two.  We’ve been on tenterhooks ever since but they’ve decided on …………… Piri and Teze.  ;D  Those two girls can certainly tell when a potential home is in the offing and apparently they pulled out all the stops and gave the performance of their lives, having narrowly missed out to Athena and Peaseblossom and then to Olivia in the past.

Photo time.  ;D  You can just see Millie’s ear sticking out from under the blanket on the pic called Ben3.

Poor Rosalind never seems to impress anybody – she’s her own worst enemy and yet she’s a lovely playful cat.  I think she needs some better publicity so she too got the catnip knotty treatment while I got the camera out.  Would any of these pics get you interested?

Wonderful news for Max & Tippy, if only all the cats could find homes so quickly  :wow: Fab news for Piri-Teze too  ;D When do they go?  Will they be keeping their names?  :naughty:

Millie & Ben sound very confused, hope they settle down and realise that they are safe at the Inn and that the right home comes along for them  :) Such a beautiful pair  :Luv2:

As for Rosalind, am finding it difficult to believe that she could be overlooked  Such a pretty girl and I've always wanted a tabby & white *must resist, must resist* I'll change her pics on the website tomorrow and 'feature' her on the FB page - is her write up still fairly accurate?

Quote
Rosalind is around a year old and arrived at Paws Inn with her four beautiful babies who had to be taken away from her and hand reared because she was too run down to feed them. She has now recovered her vitality and is playful and affectionate but doesn’t get on well with other cats so being in a rescue situation doesn’t suit her and she can sometimes become frustrated. She is looking for a home as an only pet with no small children. Rosalind has been spayed and microchipped and is fully vaccinated.

Nicky

She's not too keen on being handled which can make showing her to people difficult as they like to hold the cats.  I think the problem is that she associates being picked up with being put back in her pen and while sometimes she's fine, at other times she has been known to lash out and obviously we have to tell people this.  I'm sure that once she has the freedom to roam she'll settle down but its a bit of a catch 22 because until she settles down she's unlikely to get a home. She's not keen on other cats either which makes finding an experienced home for her even more difficult.

Helen I think her write-up needs a bit more explanation but I'll have to run it by Debbie first so maybe hold off until I can do that.  :thanks:

I think Piri and Teze will probably be going on Saturday and I have no idea whether they will keep their names, as we've only just found out that they are the chosen two.

Aw Carol - am loving the piccies.  :wow:   Rosalind is beautiful - shown particularly well in the photo of her on her back, paws in the air.  There must be someone out there who'd be willing to give her a chance even when she's not keen on being handled?  Admittedly it's a problem come vet visit times, but they're hopefully only annual checks for the most part.  She's lovely, bles her.

Also loving the other piccies - Millie is a little stunner, and I can't believe how like Bunty Ben is.   :evillaugh:
Sad they're a bit mistrustful, but well done to you and Debbie for your herculean efforts with the catnip knots.  Hope Daddy Rob's bite is healing without too much trouble.

So glad Piri and Teze have a new home - it sounds ideal.   :)  Teresa would be so pleased.   :Luv:

Thanks for that Sam.  I think Rosalind would video well because she’s always playful, not just when she’s had catnip.  ;D  All it needs now is for one of us to master the art.

Everybody seemed happy at the Inn yesterday.  :)  I decided it was time to let Ben explore his surroundings and while he was doing that I sat on T’s perching stool to watch.  Next thing I knew he was up my knee, purring like a tractor, head butting me and demanding cuddles.  :Luv2:  He seemed a bit bemused when I got the toys out so I suspect that’s something that’s new to him, but like all youngsters he couldn’t resist the roundabout thing with the ball inside.  :evillaugh:

Millie greeted me with a growl  :-: but at least she didn’t hide from me.  She was looking much more relaxed so I started to stroke her and she was soon purring.  She did give another growl when I put Ben back in the pen, and Rob says either one of them can occasionally be a bit feisty at feeding times, so maybe there’s a bit of competition going on there.  We’ll see how it goes but we’ll have the option of separating them if needs be when Piri and Teze go to their new home at the weekend.

The puddings were a bit quiet with me on Saturday so I think either they’d forgotten me or were punishing me for neglecting them, because they were just the opposite yesterday.  Treacle had me roaring with laughter by managing to play with four different toys and display Olympian prowess at sprinting and gymnastics, all within the space of a few seconds.   Ginger was a little more sedate, preferring to hone his sparring and mountaineering skills. :evillaugh:

Doesn’t time fly, Sonny and Jimbo were neutered yesterday.  They slept in the car on the way back and were very purry when they got home.   :Luv2:

Lovely pics of the puddings too, haven't they grown  :Luv2: I bet Sonny & Jimbo are big boys now too but very difficult to visualise :see:  :naughty:

The Paws Inn website has a tab for youtube videos on each cat's entry... not sure if that is asking too much though to take video, upload to PC AND upload to youtube! :shy: If you or Debbie have an iphone it's very easy - if you were using your camera you'd need to use the cable to transfer to your PC...

All is relatively quiet at the Inn right now.  After a good start to the year re-homing has stalled, with no promising enquiries since Piri and Teze left for pastures new nearly a month ago.  The good news is the girls made themselves at home in double quick time.  We received pics of them relaxing on the sofa within the first 24 hours and have recently had lovely shots of them being mischievous.   ;D

Since being put into separate pens Ben’s behaviour is just fine and Millie is getting more sociable – so long as you don’t touch the bottom of her back which results in a hissy fit – or worse.  There is no evidence of current injury so whether she’s been hurt there in the past or just has a sensitive back we don’t know, but forewarned is forearmed.  :shify:

Oh dear.  :-[  I should have realised that you lovely people would have your fingers crossed for Dainty and Fontaine but sadly they remain.

There's no reason to suppose things won't go according to plan, its just that it happened so fast we couldn't really believe it after the bleak period we've been going through and I don't want to break the spell.

I'll tell you one thing though. The remaining bottlefeds that Debbie was fostering have got a lovely forever home and have settled in really well.   :shify:   ;)

Tsk tsk ladies, patience is a virtue.   ;)

I've only just found out myself because I haven't been at the Inn today, and as usual Debbie has been doing all the work. So, despite not wanting to go in the carrier, Ginger and Treacle Pudding are now ensconced in their new home.  ;D  They will be living with a doggie - a border collie who has lived all her life with cats and his been fretting since the last one went to the bridge.  :Luv:  Whilst at the Inn the Puddings have heard next door's dog but have never seen it,  so have never learned to fear the species.  That's the theory anyway. :crossed:  There are of course some lovely humans in the house as well.  :evillaugh:

Debbie will be taking Sonny and Jimbo to their new home tomorrow.  We don't normally do home deliveries  :evillaugh: but this is a special case. Well they are the last cats that T ever rescued and we have to be doubley, tripley, absolutely sure that they approve of their forever home.  They will - oh yes they will.  ;)

At last we have freed up some pens.  :)  Ermmm not for long.  :shify:  I'll be at the Inn tomorrow so I'll tell you about the newbies after I've met them.

:wooooo: bon voyage Treacle & Ginger  ;D My neighbours have dogs too, they are generally very well behaved but the times they do bark my two don't even flinch so fingers crossed that the Puddings make friends with their new DOG sister in no time  :) So pleased that Sonny & Jimbo have found themselves a home too, only wish it could have been mine! :blow kiss:

Looking forward to hearing about the newbies too, don't forget your camera!  :pic:

Yesterday’s home delivery of the Gingers went according to plan and all is well with them.  ;D  I’m not so sure about Debbie though; she was heartbroken and even Rob had a tear in his eye when they left.   I must say my day at the Inn was unnervingly quiet without either them or the Puddings.  :shify:

Their new home really couldn’t be better.  Their experienced slaves are known to Debbie so although they’re outside the usual Paws Inn rehoming area we won’t lose touch with them completely.  :)

It really was rather wonderful how it all happened.  ;D  They’d reserved them ages ago but then due to circumstances weren’t able to go ahead, and the phone call to say that all was now well came just 15 minutes before the people who subsequently took the Puddings were due to arrive.  Given that the Puddings new slaves had a ‘thing’ for ginger cats, it was a nick of time phonecall and we ended up homing 4 instead of just 2.  :phew:

On to the newbies.  ;D  They are both lovely, friendly souls and both are Paws Inn coloured.  :shify:  Sorry but no photos at the moment.  :-[   I will post more details later but basically the first was left behind when the owners moved  >:( and has been on our waiting list for some time.  The second was taken to the vets by the people who look after a feral colony after they found him in a very bad state.  Presumably somebody had dumped him there because he was poorly.  >:(  The diagnosis was cat flu and although he is much better now we have him isolated in a collapsible pen indoors, in a room that is normally a cat-free area.  :scared:

Sounds like it was fate for Sonny & Jimbo to go to these people, like you said only the best for those special boys

I'm guessing the newbies who are 'Paws Inn colours' are monochrome as Sheila so delightfuly phrases it!  :naughty: They both sound like they've had a hard time of it lately so must be very relieved to find themselves warm and safe at Paws Inn. I know there are no pics but how about names, sexes, ages please?!

We had much excitement at the Inn on Wednesday, unwrapping parcels that had arrived the day before.  ;D

First off it was the big new scratch posts – at last.  Since the Purrs auction funded them I have posted pics on a new thread in General Cat Chat because it has a wider readership. http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,42894.new.html#new  Poor Dainty got a bit stressed when she had to go in a carrier and poor Debbie got a bit scratched trying to get her in there   :evillaugh: but harmony was soon restored.

Next we tackled an intriguing parcel from the Purrs shop that was addressed to Ginga Ninja, Noodles and Grasshopper.  :shify:  We had a bit of a clue what might be in there when we found that in our absence Olly and Tula had got their paws (and teeth) into it and were under the kitchen table fighting each other for possession.   Fortunately we rescued it before any real damage was done to either the contents or the cats.  :evillaugh:

Grasshopper said it was too cold to come out to play so we’ve saved his toy for another day but Ginja Ninja and Noodles were very pleased and say thank you very much to their benefactor.  You know who you are.  :thanks:

Auntie Tan kindly put a few extras in the package so we gave one to Millie (she of the hooky claw) whereupon she became the most animated I have ever seen her.  Generally she stays glued to her heated bed, except when she’s eating or using her tray.  :evillaugh:

Ben, who is now an absolute sweetie,  :Luv2: also got a catnip toy and a new scratch post with dangly bits after he complained about his old one.  I can’t think why.

Title: Re: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on March 22, 2013, 19:39:26 PM
Oops, I nearly forgot, you want to know about the newbies don’t you.  :evillaugh:

Both are so friendly and so desperate for affection that they’re all over you with head-butts and purrs the minute they get chance, which makes taking pics a bit difficult.

The one who was abandoned by her owners came to us as Sparky but she’s actually a Sparkle.  ;D  The lady who first alerted us to her has done a good job of feeding her up, so rather than being skin and bone as she was when first reported, she’s quite chubby.  :shify:  She’s about 2 years old and vet says definitely not pregnant :phew: so we think she must be spayed, but to be on the safe side she won’t go up for adoption until after she’s had her second vaccinations in 3 weeks time.  She dribbles when she’s pleased or excited. :Luv2:

Poorly puss is 10 months old according to the vets who treated him (not our vets) although how anybody can be so accurate I don’t know.  :innocent:  He is getting better by the day, but his eyes are still a bit gungey which makes him look older and grumpier in the pics.  His name is Cledford but if you’re anything like me you won’t be able to remember that - I had to look it up before posting to make sure I’d got it right.   I think that’s the name of the area where he was found, but not being local to Paws Inn it doesn’t mean anything to me so I think I’ll call him Cled …or Cleddie …..or Cledders ….. or maybe Cadet (1st class) Cledford because he’s a brave little soldier.  :Luv2:  He has a lovely white tip on the end of his tail and I've included the pic with used his litter tray in it because he had a very runny tummy when he arrived and we're proud of the improvement.  ;)

Too many lovely pics  :wow: Firstly, a big thanks to the mystery parcel sender from me too for the catnip induced Ginger Ninja and Noodles pics  :naughty:  :thanks:

Hope Debbie's bite isn't too sore, I can't believe 'churchmouse' Dainty would do such a thing!

Millie looks to be enjoying the catnip too, as for poor Ben's bewildered little face with his naked scratchpost

The newbies are adorable, not sure what is cuter - Sparkle's stripy nose or Cledford's spotty tail :blow kiss:

so I think I’ll call him Cled …or Cleddie …..or Cledders ….. or maybe Cadet (1st class) Cledford because he’s a brave little soldier.  :Luv2:

Now that is a name Teresa would be proud of  :)

A quick update from the Inn.  Cadet (1st class) Cledford has been declared fit by the vet so is now available for rehoming.  :)  Sparkle is still showing no signs of being pregnant and we’re hoping that when she goes for her second vaccs next week the vet will confirm that.  I despair of ever getting a decent picture of either of them; they’re both so friendly and inquisitive that all I get is noses.  :Luv2:

We took in two new additions on Sunday, sisters Molly and Tiggy.  They’re about 10 months old, definitely haven’t been spayed and have been outdoors, so fingers crossed neither is pregnant.  We had a bit of a shock when we saw them because we had assumed (as we always do) that they would be Paws-Inn-coloured.  They’re not.  :evillaugh:

They don’t seem very happy with each other’s company and if they don’t settle down soon we may have to split them, so it’s just as well that Ben has found himself a lovely new home.  ;D  His mum Millie is still taking swipes at us but there are no claws involved now which is a good.  :shify:  It’s quite funny really; she’ll be purring and enjoying a fuss when without warning she’ll hit out, walk away and then fix you with a glare, before getting back in her heated bed.

Elsewhere all is sweetness and light.  Annie and Tula are enjoying cuddling up together indoors and Millie-feral and Wilma are cuddling up together in the greenhouse.  Some of you may recognise their choice of bed.  ;)

I know you want pics of Molly and Tiggy so here are a couple taken when they first arrived.  As both had been sick on the journey and then been treated to a Stronghold I think its safe to say you are not seeing them at their best.

.....have you heard how Sonny & Jimbo are getting on in their new home?

Yes, Debbie gets regular updates and they have settled in well.  :Luv2:  Not content with their own beds they now regularly keep their slaves company in theirs.  :evillaugh:  Something we didn’t know is that Sonny is a kleptomaniac.   A watch went missing and was found squirreled away in his bed – along with sundry other less valuable items.  :evillaugh:

We’re doing very well for feedback at the moment which is very rewarding.  :)  The Puddings babies Ginger and Treacle (or G&T as their new slaves refer to them  :evillaugh: ) are taking longer to settle, as we suspected they might, but are clearly growing in confidence as shown by the diary (with photos) that we have received.  They've certainly gone to the right home.  ;D

We get frequent bulletins on Olivia (with photos) who looks very happy, and we’ve had a lovely video of Athena and Peaseblossom playing in the snow.  Piri and Tease have made themselves at home too.

Spring fever returned to the Inn at the weekend, and it started with scaredy cat Dainty of all the unlikely suspects.  ;D  As a rule she either hides herself away in the corner on the bottom shelf of the big scratch post or sits in the top bed eyeing me warily for at least 10 minutes before deciding whether its safe to come out, but I’d hardly got through the door and dropped my bag on the floor when this happened…

Dainty is the headless one in case you’re wondering.  :evillaugh:  She rummaged around for a while and came up with this ….

Its one of Tan’s special herbal cat sweets  :evillaugh: that I’d forgotten was in there.  Fontaine tried to take it from her but Dainty stood her ground, flinging it around and playing with it.

Not to be outdone, normally aloof and diverish Fontaine went back to the bag, had another rummage, and came up something else I hadn’t realised was in there.

We then had the best part of an hour of interactive play.  ;D  Dainty is a naturally inquisitive and playful cat but she usually prefers that her toys come without a human attached to the other end.  :evillaugh:  At one point she almost sat on my knee but backed off after getting her front paws and half her body on when she suddenly realised what she was doing.

It was clearly thirsty work for her....

… and for Fontaine

It made my day, even if I did miss out on my cup of tea.  :)

Tiggy is not your ordinary ginger cat,  :Nooooo: not that you ginger fans would ever use the term ordinary anyway.  :)  I’ve been searching the net to try to find images anything like her and have failed miserably, although a rather complicated article I saw led me to believe she might be a reverse torbie.

When we collected her we thought she had perhaps been under a car with an oil leak and we intended cleaning her up when she had settled.  Closer inspection revealed that the ‘dirt’ was in fact black, or more likely dark tortie stripes in the fur on her back, face, edge of one ear and legs/feet.  I hope you can see them on the pics.  And she isn’t ginger – she’s the richest red I've ever seen.   :wow:

Hi all,

I haven't been on for a while but thought I'd pop by and say hi :) also thought I'd share a pic which I've already put on the Paws Facebook site of my brood which includes 4 Paws Inn babies :)

From top (the little one looking at the camera) going clockwise, we have Scrumpberry (was Blackberry at PI); Bear (Bumpty); Scamp (Chico, sister of Scrumpberry from another litter and rescued by T and Rob from Chesterfield!); Scratchy (non Paws baby); and lastly is Busta (was Pimlico who was one of T's last rescues). If anyone's wondering they're enjoying some leftover steak, they don't share a plate everynight

As you can see they're a happy bunch who are very much loved and who I'm extremely thankful to Paws Inn for :)

Hope everyone on here is well,

Sarah

Fabulous pic Sarah, and great to see how well Busta has integrated with your others - or is that just the steak?  :evillaugh:

Sorry for the absence of posts recently folks, I’ve been busy with stuff at home.  :-[  In truth not a lot has changed at the Inn.  All residents are well but rehoming is at a virtual standstill.  The single enquiry we’ve had since I last posted resulted in Sparkle finding her forever home, and she was instantly replaced by Perky, who could be her twin both in looks and personality as you will see from the pic.  :Luv2:

Silly me, I almost forgot.  :innocent: There was a bit of excitement a couple of weeks ago.  ;)  This was Day One...

….. and Day3

..and finally today, Day 15.  I know you can’t tell from the pic but their eyes are open now.

Can you guess who mum is?  You’ve been introduced.  :evillaugh:

Scamp was the little one that was pretty poorly when T took her on with her Mum, wasn't she? And we'd been told she was a he, if I remember correctly....T learned about Scamp and her Mum because I posted after being concerned; they were being given away on the local Freecycle. The person that had them decided to "just keep the kitten because it was a bit poorly to see if they got better" but I convinced them to let both go. Seems T taking her on saved her life from what I remember because untreated it was a pretty severe infection. Course, saving lives was what she was good at.

Awesome photo of a bevvy of beautiful black cats, and wonderful Paws Inn update. :)

Title: Re: News from Paws inn
Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on June 20, 2013, 23:49:35 PM
Nobody at the Inn has a home lined up Rosella, the enquiries have totally dried up. :(

Tiggy is rather special isn't she and she's just a baby herself, bless her.  You have no idea how difficult it was to get that picture because if you go anywhere near her she just comes for fuss and affection and leaves the babies to their own devices.

She worried us to death when she first gave birth because we never saw her feed them.  :scared: We had to keep making sure that their tummies were full and she happily let us handle them and didn't even try to lick them clean afterwards which worried us even more. Rob was getting up through the night to check on them and when I was there I took to crawling on my hands and knees along the outside of the pen block then popping up when I got under the window in the hope of taking her by surprise  but she was always on the scratch post.

She lets Rob and Debbie see her looking after them now and she's more protective than she was but if I approach the pen she still thinks I've come to play.  :Luv2:  On my last visit she jumped out of the pen as soon as I opened the door and found herself a toy.

She's a gorgeous girl - hardly surprising she wants affection when as you say she's little more than a baby herself, bless her paws!    :(

Post by: CarolM (Wendolene) on June 24, 2013, 14:22:58 PM
Tiggy is actually turning out to be a very good, if unconventional, mum.  ;D  She’s protective without being possessive which will make the task socialising easier.  Yes I know, its going to be hell but somebody has to do it.  ;) :evillaugh:

The kittens will be four weeks old on Wednesday so I think its time for formal introductions.  We really should have used different coloured bedding because they don’t show up well against the grey but here goes.

First off we have Topsy, the only girl.  We thought she was a tortie at birth but I think she’s a torbie with a bit a white on her face for good measure.  :Luv2:

Next we have Todd who already knows he’s a heart-throb.  He has the most amazing pair of lungs and isn’t afraid to use them - often.  :evillaugh:

Next comes Tyson, so called because he’s the biggest and a bit of a thug.

Finally we have the other black boy who was Toby until the arrival at the Inn of Marmite and Toby who have had their names all their lives.  We’ve not actually agreed on his new name but I call him Troy, I think Debbie calls him Theo, and Rob, who can never remember kittens names anyway, says he’s only 6 inches long so why does he need a name yet.   I have a sneaking feeling he might turn out to be my favourite, he already has a cheeky look in his eyes.

Both the black boys have stripes in their fur which is not uncommon and they usually fade, but in Tyson’s case they’re very noticeable and I wouldn’t be surprised if they became more rather than less prominent with time.

Gotta go now but more pics later (probably much later), including another 2 newbies.  Yes folks, the collapsible pens are being pressed into use once again.

I promised you pics of the 2 newbies didn’t I?  Bootsie and Smudge came to us as 8 week old kittens about 2 weeks ago and they’re absolutely adorable.  :Luv2:  Poor Bootsie had a sore bottom that turned out to be a rectal prolapse which can be very serious if not treated.  It didn’t seem to be bothering him so because of his tender age the vet at first had us using creams to try to shrink it, hoping it would then right itself (apparently they sometimes do).  He tolerated our ministrations well bless him, but they had absolutely no effect whatsoever, so on Friday he had surgery – twice.   The first time it popped out again before he’d even left the vet’s.  Yesterday he was back at the vets for an emergency appointment because he was very much not himself and straining to poo.  Well it can’t be easy with your bottom sewn up can it?  :-:  The stitches had to be removed and its now a case of fingers crossed that everything stays where it should and his own muscles take over the task of keeping it there.  If not it will mean major surgery to shorten his intestine.  :scared:

Hello Paws Inn and Purrs People  :)

I'm Mark and I've just become the proud slave of Bayleaf and Bee, former residents of Paws Inn.   Just though I'd say hi.

The two little 'uns are currently hiding behind the armchair in my conservatory as I think they're still a little traumatised by the journey and the new surroundings.  They've started eating and drinking though so they seem ok :)

When they come out I'll take some pictures and you can see them in all their beauty.

This is just the best news  ;D So pleased for this beautiful pair  :wow: Can't believe they had to wait a whole year for someone to pick them! It's bound to be a bit unsettling for them in the early days as they've not had a home of their own before but I bet they'll get their feet under the table before you know it  :)

Very much looking forward to seeing pics of them as they settle in and will happily remove the news banner saying they need a home!  :wow:

:welcome: to Purrs Mark.  Nothing will give me greater pleasure than seeing Bee and Bayleaf settled in their new home but don't be despondent if it takes a while.  A year is a long time to be in rescue so its a big change for them.

You've made me realise that I'm very behind with my updates.  :-[  In brief, Bootsies's  prolapse didn't stay put after his first 2 ops and he had a third which was also a failure so had to have major surgery to remove the prolapsed bit of his intestine.  That was just over a week ago and his vet checks so far have been positive but this week is the real test when he's off the laxative and the painkiller.  I have to say it doesn't seem to be bothering him, he's still 100 mph kitten.   :Luv2:  The vet is a little bit in love with him but then we all are (and his brother Smudge of course).

We have a new resident Jerry, a 12 week old kitten who was dumped from a car.  >:(  A couple taking their dog for a late evening walk saw the car stop then drive away leaving him behind.   He's obviously been cared for and is well socialised and very friendly so how could they do that.  :Dont know:

Tiggy's  kittens are lovely and mischievous as ever.

Pics to follow when I get myself sorted.  I think I need a rainy day.  :innocent:

No kitten pics I'm afraid.  I needed my wits about me just trying to keep an eye on them, they were into everything.  I'll swear Troy and Tyson have  springs instead of paws.  They just bounced all the time.

Jerry is a bit of a Mr Cledford when it comes to cameras.  He just homes in on it as soon as I point it and all I get is out of focus pics of his face.  One such does show the unusual colour of eyes though (assuming they show up the same on your computer as they do on mine),  They're a light russet brown, very attractive.

As for Jerry  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: but then I may be a tiny bit biased as he does look very much like Algie when he was a kitten  ;D Thank goodness there were kind people nearby when he was dumped.

Mark - Hi, and welcome to Purrs!!  :welcome:   Am absolutely delighted that you've offered your home to Bee and Bayleaf, who have had to wait far too long but clearly for a reason - their purrfect forever home.   :wow:  I know we all hope that you'll have years of boundless fun and love with these two.   :wow: :Luv:

Jerry's eyes are beautiful - very like Tinky's, Carol.  (who is not dissimilar in colouring all told)  ;D  I do wonder, when people do things like that with cats and kittens whetehr it is the owner, or whether it's a disgruntled neighbour etc - remember that dreadful woman who shut the cat in the wheelie bin, and her frantic owners were worried sick about their missing cat?

Bless Bootsie.  Am pleased to know he's still tearing around letting nothing stand in his way, and very much keeping everything crossed that this time his surgery has succeeded and he wont need to undergo anything further - let him enjoy life as an otherwise healthy little boy.   :Luv:

Pleased to hear Tiggy's kittens are all doing well.   :Luv:  Loving the Paws Inn updates .  Thanks Carol.

Well, the 2 Bs (Bee & Bayleaf) have been with me for just over a week and are settling in well...  Bayleaf has become a very affectionate little boy very quickly and virtually demands cuddles and grooming.  Bee however is still quite timid (which I found quite surprising because she seemed the more outgoing of the two at the shelter) and is very reluctant to let me stroke or touch her.  I guess she needs a little more time.  Bee's quite an explorer though, given half a chance she's exploring every nook and cranny of the house.  She also likes sitting there watching me, whenever I'm about, whereas Bayleaf is quite content rolling around and generally being lazy  :)

One question for you purrs people - I'm not sure which cat it is, but one likes to kick all of the litter out of the tray (including their 'presents' :().  It's quite a big tray and I only put about 4 - 5 cms in but end up shovelling it back each morning which can be quite time consuming.  Any ideas how to remedy this?

You can get high sided trays on Zooplus - I have some of the larger cat variety in my Norweigian Forest Cat Star 8.72kgs and my Ragdoll Casper 8.1kgs and some of my moggies are 7kgs and I have found that high sided open  :shocked:or high sided covered boxes work as my boys bury everything

That's lovely to hear  :) Sounds like Bee will take a little bit longer than Bayleaf but it will be even more rewarding when she learns to trust you 100%  :Luv2:

A solution for your litter issues... covered litter trays! If they've not used one before you may need to start with the flap off and add it on once they're confident in using it. I also wouldn't take away their regular litter tray immediately as they might get confused and go elsewhere

I also have hard plastic litter tray mats in front of my trays, which means any stray litter can just get poured straight back in.

There's a big selection here http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes along with high sided ones that Liz mentioned.

If you do order through Zooplus then if you click on the link at the bottom of each page on Purrs you will get 10% off your first order, plus every time you click on that link and order then Zooplus donate 5% of your order total to the Purrs rescue fund (of which Paws Inn is one of the beneficiaries  ;D )

Litter tray activity is usually for life so whomever is kicking now will be kicking in years to come.  I suggest either pop the tray into a larger cardboard box to contain the shrapnel OR buy a soft broom and just sweep it away every few hours.

I sweep mine into a corner, it takes 5 seconds and once you have the routine in your head it's actually quite therapeutic  ;D Every now and again I pick it up in a dustpan and chuck it back in the litter tray. But then I'm not OCD about crumbs on the floor (and we have hard floors so it's easy peasy.)

Hi Sue - Bayleaf and Bee are getting on very well... they're both quite confident now and spend most evenings in the lounge with me... Bee particularly likes the window ledge and watching the world go by :)

They're both quite vocal little kittys and have very cute miaows.

I've just started to let them outdoors - only for an hour or so at a time at the moment.  Bee is a real explorer but Bayleaf just sits on the doorstep looking a little bewildered  :scared:  I'm sure Bee will give her brother the confidence to go out in time though.

I've attached a couple of pictures - my camera phone is a bit knackered unfortunately but hopefully you'll get the idea.

Loving the pics of Bee and Bayleaf.  Do you have trees in your garden Mark? If you do I expect Bee to take more than a passing interest in them now that she's going out.   :scared:

Mixed news from the Inn this time.   I’ve been slacking while Rob and Debbie have been under a lot of pressure both physical and emotional.

After 15 years as one of the Inn’s resident outdoor ferals, Wilma had to be helped to the bridge just over a week ago when she went rapidly downhill and it was discovered she had a mouth tumour.  In her later years she became very friendly and she is sadly missed. She made sure meals were always on time by meowing at the kitchen door when she knew they were due.  :Luv2:  Her friend Millie is now the only remaining outdoor feral although Darth Vader is making a bid to move in. We’re hoping we’ll be able to get him neutered but the wiley so-and-so has evaded capture for many years  as long-term followers will know, so watch this space.

We’ve been worried about Anastasia’s nose (which is cancerous) because its been getting worse and the vet said when it was first diagnosed that surgery was not an option.  However, he’s read that some vets have had success burning the tumour out rather than cutting it or using radiation, so this week she had the operation.  It’s the first time he’s ever used the probe on a nose (although he’s used it for mouths before) and he’s pleased with how it went so its now a matter of wait and see. Hopefully it will have bought her lots more quality time.  She was a bit dopey after the op but was back to her normal self and demanding cuddles the day after.  :Luv2:

Little Bootsie is not out of the woods yet regarding his rectal prolapse, in fact he has been causing a great deal of concern because of his inablilty to poo unaided.   :(  We’ve lost count of the number of operations and procedures he has had to endure but he’s remained happy, friendly and lively throughout, which makes the situation all the more heartbreaking, so please send him lots of Purrs vibes.

Despite our resolve to keep things at a manageable level the collapsible cages are proliferating, a situation not helped by the fact that Bootsie has had to be separated from his brother and best mate Smudge, so that we can monitor his poos (or lack thereof).  Tiggy has also had to be separated from her kittens so she can get some weight on her prior to spaying.  Then there’s the Cropper family,  :)  three 5-week old kittens that we took in a couple of weeks ago.  The boy (black and white) had already been named Royston and while it was obvious that one of the unnamed tabbies was a girl, we weren’t sure about the other, so as Coronation Street fans it was a no-brainer and they became Royston, Sylvia and Hayley/Harold.   They are of course adorable.  :Luv2:

Jerry has bagged himself a lovely home so I won’t get chance to slip him in my bag after all.  ;D  He’s a bit of a handful so we’re hoping that the two-year cat he will be sharing with is up to the task.  :-:

More pics of the Croppers and one of Troy watching in amazement as Todd played enthusiastically in a crinkle tunnel that somebody kindly sent us.  Its huge and covers the entire floor area which is why Troy was perched on the steps.  :evillaugh:   Topsy and Tyson were being antisocial (a rather worrying trait of theirs).

Thanks for the update, Carol.  :thanks:

Poor Wilma, RIP beautiful lady.  :(

And Bootsey, sending all my bestest poo vibes for you sweetie :care:

Anastasia's nose looks amazing considering what she's been through, your vet is a wonder. Hope it's done the trick.  :crossed:

Those kittens are just gorgeous, such a shame there are so many of them again this year. I love the expression on Hayley's face, bless her  :Luv2:

Hope Tiggy is well enough to be spayed soon so she can be re-united with her babies.  :)

Aw, bless Wilma.  Hope she's filling Teresa in on all of the goings-on at The Inn.   Rest in peace little lady.

Darth, if you're listening honey, you get your backside moved in good and proper, you hear?  It's a great place to be.    And Millie needs a pal.

Loving the photos.   Hope that Anastasia's nose heals well, and well done to the vet for giving it a try when many others would not have.   Love The Croppers.  :evillaugh:

Am sending lots of positive healing vibes for Bootsie, bless him.

I do have one tiny complaint though, Carol - The photo of Troy is of course as gorgeous as they come, but Todd was notably absent.   :-:

So sorry about Wilma  :(

Hope Annie is recovering well   Our vet went to NZ last year for 3 months to help another vet with his practice.  When I brought Boris in for his booster this year I mentioned that we use sun tan lotion in an effort to protect his pink ears.  He mentioned that NZ vet had excellent results burning tumours.

Not really an update but just a few reflections on the first anniversary of Teresa’s passing.

At this time last year we vowed that Paws Inn would continue to help needy cats, albeit probably on a smaller scale.  I’m sure Teresa will be smiling to see that continue it has, thanks to the tireless dedication of Rob and Debbie and the financial support of lots of wonderful Purrs people.

We were wrong about one thing though – its still bursting at the seams. :shify:

I have no doubt Teresa would be proud of the dedication and tenacity shown by the team that supported her when she was here, and I'm sure she's watching over things.

Sadly, I'd no doubt things would still be bursting at the seams. Until the leading rescues start to endorse the importance of neutering and spaying I'm sure it will continue. :(

(I've been in contact with the CEO of the RSPCA who responded once but has tried to quietly slip away.....I asked him what was being done to raise awareness of this matter and how much it's impacting on rescues.)

Long time no post so a quick update on comings and goings at the Inn.  Sadly there are many more comings than goings and in addition to filling our regular pens we have collapsible cages in every available space and simply cannot do more.  Nothing unusual in that.  :sigh:  Goodness knows what will happen if we don’t find some good homes before our many kittens start to need more space.  :scared:  But enough of the moans.  :innocent:

Tiggy went to her forever home in early September after a bit of a scare where the vet thought she might be diabetic (false alarm  :phew: ).  Her departure was closely followed by that of two of her kittens.  Sorry Sue – no more piccies of the lovely Todd for you because he and Tyson were the lucky ones.  :evillaugh:

Tiggy was replaced by four feral kittens, aka The Hisspits.     Rob and Debbie have done an excellent job at socialising Pepé, Pablo and Pepper (who is not the  girl we first thought he was  ), but Poppy (aka Evil Edna) refuses to co-operate and wants nothing to do with anybody including her siblings, which is rather worrying.

For good measure we’ve also squeezed in Kitty and her four kittens who are as yet nameless.

All other residents are well.  Anastasia’s nose is looking good and pink now and we’re cautiously optimistic that she has many quality years left in her.   Bootsie’s situation is a lot more promising than it was the last time I posted.  The swelling has gone down and for the last week or so he has been managing to poo without any medication, other than a generous daily dollop of catmilk which he loves. The Croppers have grown and are ready for rehoming, little rogues that they are.  Both Hayley and Royston think my fingers make a tasty snack.  :owwww: Serves me right for not washing my hands after handling the cat biscuits.

Pics this time are a bit random.  Due to overcrowding in the pens we take the kittens into the kitchen to play and you need all your hands free to keep them out of mischief.   No pics yet of mum and babies (all tabbies).

Room for cautious optimism re Boo, and also Anastasia and her gorgeous nose (kiss kiss).

Sorry for the lack of updates of late.  I had planned to a big Christmas one but time is not on my side so I’ll just say Merry Christmas from all at Paws Inn and promise to update you before the new year.

The cats want to thank everybody who has supported them throughout the year, with special thanks to their Auntie Pav for the wonderful box of Christmas toys.  ;D  I’m afraid they couldn’t wait and got stuck into it on Sunday.  Anastasia had first choice and even opened the packet herself (pics to follow when Debbie has time, they’re on her phone).  Rosalind was thrilled to bits with the catnip Christmas tree while Dainty preferred valerian as always.  I’m afraid the photo shoot got a bit interrupted by visitors bearing gifts but I’ll try again next time I’m there.

I’d best post the promised pics of the oldies with their Christmas toys before you all forget there’s ever been a Christmas.  :-[

It was a very festive one for all the cats, because not only did they have new toys, they also had a big turkey that their Auntie Debbie cooked for them.  :drool;  By the time I went last weekend they were all begging for a sachet of ordinary cat food.  :evillaugh:

Cornelius wasn’t quite sure about his valerian toy – I think he’s a catnip man, and the youngsters were far too quick for us to get any decent pics.

I did manage to catch Bootsie in hot pursuit of his toy is out of shot.  We got the news we were waiting for about Bootsie just before Christmas.  He and brother Smudge went for neutering and Andy vet was able to confirm that his rectal muscles are now working as they should and gave us the OK for him to go up for rehoming.  ;D  There are no guarantees that he won’t have problems in the future and at the first sign of trouble he will need to see a vet immediately, so they will need a very special home because he won’t be insurable for that condition or anything related to it.  :sigh:

Does anybody remember Perky who came to the Inn in late May of this year after waiting ages for a space?  Her previous owner acquired her as a kitten for mousing duties but when she wasn’t up to the job he treated her badly.  Fortunately for her an elderly couple discovered her plight and fed her and let her sleep in their garage, but they couldn’t let her in the house because their dog wouldn’t tolerate her and she felt the same way about the dog.

So, she has never lived in a house.  :(  Until now.  ;D  She left the Inn just before Christmas and we thought she might take a while to adjust to her new surroundings but we’ve had a progress report and she seems to have settled well.  She’s already explored the whole house, played with her new toys, been generous with her cuddles and decided the best place to sleep is on her new slaves’ bed.  :)  Oh, and climbed the Christmas tree – three times.  :evillaugh:

Poor Toby and Marmite weren’t quite so lucky.  They found themselves a lovely home but unfortunately weren’t happy with the children and were quickly returned to the Inn.  :(  Despite the speed with which it happened, it wasn’t a decision that was taken lightly by the family, whose concern was for the cats’ welfare.  They were all in tears when Debbie went to pick the boys up.

I’ve just checked when it was that I last did a proper update and it was early October  :-[ so I guess you don’t know that kittens Troy and Topsy went to their forever home ages ago.  Sylvia and Hayley went to theirs not long afterwards, and that left Royston (he of the big ears and goatee beard  ;D ) all alone.  He’s still with us, but will be leaving this weekend.  :)  He was reserved several weeks ago and has had regular visits from his new slaves who have been fostering a dog over the Christmas and New Year period so couldn’t take him before.  Doesn’t time fly, he’s six months old and was neutered yesterday.

Mum Kitty was spayed and returned to her owner as agreed in November, but her kittens are still at the Inn, and are absolutely adorable.  :Luv2:  We’ve called them after film stars: Humphrey (Bogart), Lauren (Bacall), Burt (Lancaster) and Charlton (Heston).  They’re too fast to photograph but I’ll try to sort out a few half-decent ones.

The Hisspits are also still with us and are even more difficult to photograph with three of them being black, but I’ll see what I can find and post them later.  Poppy is still timid but the other three are friendly and cuddly, especially Pepper.

For such Hollywood greats our film stars are surprisingly camera-shy, in fact the only way to get them all together on film is to let them fight over treats.  :evillaugh:

They’re not easy to tell apart, with the exception of Burt who is the only mackerel tabby and the biggest of the four.

The other three have virtually identical markings but provided they’re all together Charlton is identifiable by the fact that he’s the smallest.  He’s also the noisiest.

It takes a practised eye to tell Humphrey and Lauren apart (from the front that is  :evillaugh: ) but Lauren has a slightly darker face and is usually to found beating up one or other of her brothers.

Humphrey usually has his ears pricked up which makes them look huge  but I’ve been kind to him and chosen a pic where they’re not that obvious.

The hiss-spits also have to be bribed to pose for a group shot.  :evillaugh:

…..and when it comes to individual portraits Pepper even has to be restrained  ;)

………as does Pablo  :shify:

Pepé always ends up looking like an old man…..

…and Poppy always manages to look the most playful of the four, which just goes to show how the camera can lie.

When Toby and Marmite were rehomed we decided we were going to try to keep their pen vacant because its not the easiest to heat in the winter, so they were able to move straight back in.  Dainty was very pleased to see them, and they her.  ;D

She’s getting braver is Dainty and whenever we open her pen she goes out to see what the boys are up to.  I think she wants to move in with them.  :shify: Last Sunday she opened the bin where we keep the litter, threw out the kitchen roll that we hide in there so they can’t scratch it pieces, then climbed in and stared me in the eye as if defying me to tell her off.   Time was she wouldn’t even look at me.  :)

That's all till next time.  Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Carol thank you,  :thankyou: what a brilliant, positive update!  ;D

I'm so happy for the little ones who've been rehomed, and hopeful for those who were almost there, but not quite. I'm sure the family will find themselves a more suitable pet, then try again in a few years, and when they do it will be The Inn they come to.  :) Anastasia looks so happy, and Cornelius is almost certainly waiting for a moment alone to let rip on that catnip toy  :shify: :evillaugh:

Those little tabbies will be whisked off before you know it - who could resist such beautiful, cheeky faces  :Luv: and as for Dainty! Well I never, what a front  :evillaugh: I can barely believe it's the same cat who has been struggling with her confidence for so long. Delightful  ;D Great news about young Bootsie, too - you have a wonderful vet in Andy.  ;D

Oh and don't let me near the new blacks - I'm already confusing my Polly and Kuki as they look so alike, adding a Poppy or Pepe would almost go unnoticed if I played my cards right  :sneaky:

Happy New Year to all at the Inn  :newyr 1: with fervent hopes this late run of good luck continues apace.  :luck:

Blimey, I knew I was way behind with my Paws Inn posts but I didn’t realise it had been so long.  :-[  I was sure I’d posted when Cornelius and Rosalind left us for their respective pastures new because it was such a cause for celebration, but it looks like I didn’t.   We get regular updates on both of them and to our delight both are really settled and happy, as are their respective slaves.  :)

Corny has got his feet under the table – literally, and has his own place setting at the table for days when there’s chicken on the menu.  ;D  The only complaint we’ve ever heard about him is that he can be too affectionate and wakes her up for cuddles during the night.  :Luv2:

I always thought that Rosalind would be a lap cat in the right home but she’s exceeded even my expectations.  :)  Much of that is down to her female slave who is well used to feisty cats.  She’d been visiting Rosalind for ages and we knew she would be perfect, but her husband wanted a lap cat for a change and Rosalind came with no guarantees. :shify:  Our first update, after just one day, was a photo of Rosalind contentedly cuddled up on hubby’s knee.  ;D  Clever girl, she was obviously listening when I told her she had to behave and be especially nice to hubby.  Our most recent updates show Rosalind enjoying a caravan holiday with her new family.   :wow:

After that, the film stars went to lovely homes, followed by two of hisspits and then Mr Cledford, which enabled us to de-commission most of the collapsible pens scattered about the house but only created one vacancy in the permanent pens, which was instantly filled by Noor and Roshan.  If the names ring a distant bell for any of the long-term followers of the Inn then yes, it’s two of the litter of 6 tiny kittens that Teresa rescued way back in October 2007 and nursed through flu. http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,8676.40.html  They have a very interesting history in that they were originally sexed as female but subsequently found to be hermaphrodite, which meant that after neutering they officially became male http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,12357.msg211331.html#msg211331  I think it must have been fate that gave us an empty pen in their hour of need.

…and much smaller Roshan hiding

Sadly, rehoming stalled around Eastertime and nothing going out meant that nothing could come in.  I haven’t spent much time at the Inn over the summer (been boating  ;D ) but I returned in late July from one of my trips to find that there had at last been a bit of movement.  The lovely Toby and Marmite have found their forever home  ;D and we now have kittens,  :) FOURTEEN of them to be precise, plus one mumcat (obviously they’re not all hers).  That’s 2 out and 15 in just in case you think you must have read it wrong.  :evillaugh:  I don’t know how Rob and Debbie managed to shoehorn them all in, but they did.

We still have Bootsie (he of the rectal prolapse, now fixed but not insurable) and his brother Smudge, who have grown into absolutely adorable, lovable cats.  Also still with us are two of the Hiss-spits, Poppy and Pablo, who will soon be adult.  Their sleek, black coats positively glow with health and they take my breath away every time I look at them (I  :Luv2: blacks) so I can’t understand why they’re still with us, unless it has something to do with the fact that Poppy is still a bit of Madam.  ;)

Millie (mum to Ben kitten, the Bunty look-alike if you can remember that far back) is finally coming out of her shell and playing, but she’s still inclined to box you when the mood takes her.  We find it funny because she doesn’t use her claws and the accompanying look of irritation on her face is priceless, but unfortunately its not the sort of behaviour that endears her to potential adopters, not that there are any right now.

Pansydora is as lovable as ever but for some time now she has been toileting inappropriately.  A medical cause has been ruled out, and prior to having the tests we had already been through all the easy things like trying different litters, using stuff that is supposed to attract her to the litter, giving her various stress-busting things like Zylkene etc etc but nothing has worked.  The solution, I’m sure, is a forever home with constant cuddles and playtime but her problem isn’t helping her to find one.  :(

Pansydora stalking a feather

Dainty and Fontaine are adjusting to life without their friends and neighbours Toby and Marmite.  We used to let them mix when we were doing a deep clean and they enjoyed exploring each other’s pens and getting up close with each other.  I think Dainty was in love with Toby.  :blow kiss: She’s tried making advances to the new neighbours through the bars of their cage when we let her out, but Noor hisses and growls at her if she gets too close while Roshan just ignores her.

I think that’s it, except to say that Anastasia’s nose is still looking good and she enjoys a stroll round the garden when its not too sunny.  ;D

Oh wait a minute, you’ll want to know a bit more about the kittens won’t you.  :evillaugh:  There are four different litters, three of which are motherless while the fourth came in with mum. They’re all named after comic-strip characters and briefly we have the 5 Beano kittens, the 4 Popeye kittens, the 3 Dandy kittens, and mum plus her 2 kittens are the Flintstone family.  I have some not very good pics that I’ll post tomorrow.  In the meantime are there any guesses on colours?  ;)

Oh Carol - thank you soooo much for the updates!  ;D ;D

What a busy time it's been, and no sign of things easing up, either.

Poor Noor and Roshan - their faces really do say it all, bless their paws.   :( :(  And poor Pansydora -as you say, I think getting a home of her own would be the solution to her problem, but most wont want to take her on if they know about it.

Hey - those kittens look - black - to me.   :evillaugh:  They're little beauties from behind, so am guessing from the front they're going to look even more gorgeous.

Not denying their absolute adorability, why oh why dont people get their cats neutered?    The rescue we got Moray from posted the other day that there were children selling kittens on the streets of Newcastle for a fiver each.  So depressing.   :(

Carol, thank you for the update.

I remember Noor and Roshan, I do hope they find a new forever home this time

Anastasia, gorgeous as ever :Luv2: :Luv2:

So many kittens, they are lovely but so very sad  :(

Sue , its heart breaking selling kittens in the street  :'( And if they are lucky they end up in a rescue.

 :hug:to every one in Paws inn.

Thanks for a lovely update Carol, even if there's very little movement it's still lovely to hear about all the residents  :)

Hoping rehoming picks up again soon, Carol  :( can't believe Rob and Debbie are managing all these tiny souls.  :-: thanks for the update  :thanks: Great pics of the residents as ever  ;D

Have sent some kitten grub via Paws Inn Amazon Wish List. They look like they will eat for England  :Luv2:

Does The Inn have a  Vet UK Account? It might be better value for money if we can contribute to these little tykes from there?

Sorry I didn't get around to posting any kitten pics. :-[. I'll try to sort out a few out this coming week but of course they will all have grown a lot  by now.  I've been playing hooky from the Inn so can't really give you much of an update.  I was supposed to be going today for a catch up but had to wait in for workman (yes I know it's Sunday  ) so there will be no up to date pics I'm afraid.

There is one bit of news that might raise a smile though.  We have successfully rehoused two of our long-termers.  :).  It was way back in August  and my memory isn't what it was so somebody will have to help me out here with their names.  ;). They're both girls, one is all black and the other black and white ............. :shify:  ;D ;D ;D  ;D ;D ;

It is indeed Dainty and Fontaine.  :Luv2:  They left us on 18th August and I've been bursting to share the news ever since but we had to be sure they'd found their forever home, hence the long wait.  I have an urgent date with food, followed by the Antiques Roadshow and Downton Abbey, :innocent:  but rest assured I will tell all.

Oh, for any any newbies who might think I was serious about forgetting their names, perish the thought.  :evillaugh:  These two lovelies have been at the Inn since they were either a few days old (Dainty) or still unborn (Fontaine) and four years on they are as indelibly printed on my heart as are my own cats.  :Luv2:

O.K.  Important things first.  The girls’ new slave is a lovely man who lives a quiet life, works mostly from home and has experience of very timid cats.  He is prepared to let Dainty her find her feet at her own pace and has no unrealistic expectations of her.  If she comes out of her shell that will be a bonus and if she doesn’t he will be happy just knowing she is content.  They will live permanently as indoor cats, which is what we had specified given Dainty’s timidity and the fact that neither girl has ever been outdoors.

He updated us a few days after they left the Inn to say that Fontaine had found her feet but Dainty was still hiding (no surprise there), although coming out for food.  A couple of days later he texted Debbie to say that Fontaine had started to attack Dainty when she came out for food and he was worried because poor Dainty was no longer eating.  :scared:  Debbie phoned him and was able to give him some advice on how to deal with Fontaine’s diva-ish behaviour and was relieved that, as she had surmised when she first met him, he had no intention of giving up on them easily.  :phew:   In the latest update a couple of weeks ago, Fontaine is doing well and Dainty, although still nervous, has come out of hiding and is eating well.  ;D  That was the point where we decided their pen, which we had been keeping empty just in case, was ready to receive its new occupants.

It was a long time coming wasn’t it but there was no messing about when it did.  :shify:  The Email offering them a home arrived around lunchtime on a Sunday, which just happens to be the one day of the week when both Debbie and Rob are available for home checks, so they rung the guy, went to see him, and declared him perfect.  He then scooted straight round to the Inn and spent a couple of hours with girls, declared them perfect, and arranged to pick them up the following day.  :car:  He was on holiday for 3 weeks and wanted to spend as much time as possible helping them settle in.  :)

The next 24 hours was an emotional one for all of us and I think utmost in all our minds was how happy Teresa would have been.  Debbie was alternately weepy then ecstatic, torn between feeling guilty that she was tearing the girls’ world apart and happy that at last they would be getting the home and the attention they deserve.  For my own part, having missed all the action on the Sunday, I went into my mother hen phase.  I kept thinking of all sorts of things that their new slave needed to know, like how they both love valerian toys, and Fontaine's fetish for rubber gloves and plastic carriers and how you have to keep an eye on her or she gets herself stuck in the handles.  :evillaugh:  Of course I  knew full well that Debbie would already have filled him in on absolutely everything… and more (she’s even stricter that Teresa was when it comes to rehoming her charges), but I couldn’t help it.

Getting Dainty into a carrier was always going to be a bit of a challenge as she hadn’t been in one since she was spayed (unlike the others she doesn’t have annual boosters since reacting badly to her first vaccinations).  Rob was all emotional and getting nowhere fast (and paying heavily in blood  :evillaugh: ) when his daughter turned up and offered to do it.  Bish, bosh, job done and not a drop of blood shed.  She’s obviously inherited her mother’s talent and fearlessness.

Their new slave, bless him, was happy to take the rather large and well-past-its-sell-by date kitty castle that both girls love, in order to help them settle in.  ;D  Teresa threw all her personal winnings from the Purrs prize draw into bidding on it in the Purrs auction the Christmas before she died, so it’s doubly fitting that it should have gone with them.  It is an incredible eyesore though, I wonder if he still has it.

I’ll leave you will a few pics of the girls at the Inn, including a couple of them posing on the kitty castle before it deteriorated further and completely lost its turret.   I'd love it if, at some time in the future, I could post a pic of Dainty sitting on her slave's knee but don't hold your breath.

Thanks for that reminder about the Amazon wish list Sheila.     Debbie is ahead of the game as regards the heat pads, having bought some new ones a  few weeks back.  We use the ones with the metal chewproof cables for obvious reasons. :evillaugh:  Its probably time we looked at the list though as we haven't reviewed it for ages.  We'll all be there tomorrow so hopefully we'll get time to put our heads together.

Sorry I've not updated this thread recently.  I will try to get around to it properly before Christmas but suffice to say that in spite of a few good homings (all 5 Beano kittens and 2 of the Popeyes), the collapsible pens have been dusted off and brought back into service.

Please forgive my boldness for reposting this here Sheila but it seems the right thing to do:

This is for you Auntie T  :nice meet:

The feral cat I named Theresa was trapped but had to be released ten days or so ago because it was found she was lactating, not pregnant as we'd thought.  :scared: I was worried sick she'd been away from her babies too long and they wouldn't have survived, we flyered the area and finally the call came on Saturday night that she'd been spotted with a kitten in her mouth and there were kitten sounds coming from an abandoned overgrown garden nearby.

So, yesterday, thanks to my fab team of volunteers, including - get this - A MAN! - we set out to bring the family home. Locating the kittens was easy once the neighbour pointed out where the sounds had been coming from, getting there was like hacking through razor wire as the garden was completely overgrown with bramble and chock full of the hugest spiders! Eventually new boy Mark forged a pathway and handed the four sleepy kittens back to me and we formed a chain to get them to safety, then popped them in microcages inside the big trap.
Mama Theresa eventually turned up looking for her kids, wandered around the trap, poked her head in, came out, wandered off, came back, sniffed, jumped on top, in fact did everything except go to her kittens! Finally, I raised my eyes to the Heavens and sent up a plea....

"C'mon Auntie T, bring her in for me?" and in she went.

Theresa and her four babies are now in my summerhouse crate, along with (possibly) their Dad and Grandad Merlin the marvelous who we caught in another trap farther down the road, and who will be castrated today, not before time!

Thanks Auntie T  :thanks: I'd been waiting for a cat to name after you, and yesterday you showed yourself  ;D . Gods love you, Angel. xx

This morning we wangled a free weigh in and vet check, flea treatment and cuddles with the vet nurses, after whom Marie/o and Lorna are named.

Robbie, is named after Theresa's Rob, and as a rhyme for his Dad/Brother Ronnie (who is his double and himself named for my own Father, Ron, RIP) and who was caught and neutered last Friday.

Theresa's Babies...

Robbie (white with black smudge), Mario or Marie (black, sex indeterminate), Lorna (Tabby 1 grumpy face) and Lola (Tabby 2) and the quite exquisite Theresa herself.
