Oh Mac. Mac.
We would not have wanted for you to die in such violent circumstances. You have left a gaping hole behind you. My heart breaks for the manner of your passing. It rejoices for the love and joy you brought to us, but we ache - God how we ache - for your passing.
This was a poem I wrote to celebrate your life - submitted to a poetry competition last month. Little did I know that it would form your epitaph.

MacBeenz MacSquee is no ordinary cat
He’s cunning and quick –
He’s lean (not fat).
MacBeenz MacSquee is a Ninja in training,
Whiskers alert, muscles constraining
The heart of a Lion residing within
The form of a tiger – the fur and the skin.
Exploring the bedroom
He’s fearless and fleet.
Better watch out – he loves bare feet!
Ready to pounce on an unwary toe –
Under the duvet, nothing on show.
But when it’s “lights out” he’s up for a snoozle
Snuggling down, asleep like a woozle.
Twitching and quivering, the Ninja breaks free

You were - you are - magnificent. We will never forget the love and joy you brought to us, and the absolute devastation we feel at your loss.

We see reminders of him everywhere. Gill said something a few days ago when she was thinking about Franta - she said even the good memories hurt, and I know exactly what she means. I can scarcely bear to think of him as it just turns the screw a bit tighter. God I hope that passes, as I don't want to not be able to think of him at all, yet perversely he's in everything I see and do and say.

It takes time Sue and sometimes longer than we would want :hug: :hug:
I am a firm believer in keeping the signs around and also I keep everything that they had, its part of who they were and although I cant look at the collections I have for Kocka and Napoleon right now, it comforts me that I have them.
I wrote so much about both and have that too, it was my feelings at the time and for a time after and its my memories on paper, I never want to lose those memories the happy ones or the sad ones. In the end its the happy ones that will last the longest.
Every cat is unique and deserves our thoughts but as people we are also unique and we all do things differently.
I never met Mac but he is definately in my heart for ever :hug: :hug:

This morning is hard. I was lying in bed listening to the rain on the window and thinking of my beautiful boy. But I'm gradually finding that I can push the manner of his death to one side and see instead the way he just loved life, and his lovely smiley face beaming at me, sparkling with mischief.
The best bits - the best memories - are me and him, snoozling in the wee small hours of the morning, just happy to be with each other, quietly letting our thoughts drift.
He was my lovely bag of gold. My absolute riches.
He was his Daddy's heartbeat.

A year today since I last saw your incredible, handsome, mischievous face. We had a snuggle, a little play, I kissed you. You went out into the early morning sun, and I never saw you again.
I've broken my heart for you all over again today. I still feel tremendous pain at the manner of your death. You didn't deserve it.
But, you know I think of you, and above all else, what I hold inside is a grin as big as your heart, because you - beautiful boy - were the brightness of our lives for a full year, and what a magnificent gift of your love you gave to us.

Indeed not. It gets softer. I feel my Ninja Beenz as he was - as he is. The whole of him, rather than the hideous lightning stab of loss, which was all I could originally hold in my hands.
