Title: Home found:)
Post by: kelly-joy on July 27, 2011, 20:11:12 PM
TILLY - 4 months old seal tabby point (Tonkinese ??)

This dear little girl has been suffering for a while. She arrived at our door late on Sunday evening after her owner realised she was in trouble and couldn’t afford to get her to the vets.

We have got her on antibiotics and eye drops and she has had a steroid injection .
Tilly has rubbed all the hair off of her eyes herself as they were so sore and itchy.
After treatment, her eyes are now wide open and not running and sticky anymore
and the hair will now start growing back.

She has the sweetest nature and in a few weeks will be looking for a family home with lots of cuddles

She loves to play and would be fine with other dogs and cats.

We hope she will be well enough to be neutered and start her vaccinations in a couple of weeks

Poor little thing. Will she have ongoing problems? How could they allow her to get like that. She must have been in so much pain :(

I don't know much about Tonks as a breed but I did have a nice chat with Patsy today and it is possible we will go and meet Tilly on Saturday. We are close enough for a home check to happen if we decided . It is all very much a maybe at the mo as I would be worried if she has something that could be passed to E&A . It turns out Tilly was living in a car with a dog and owner so she has had a hard start in life ! She seems to be responding to treatment so she would be ready in about a month. She likes to play so I think she would be the dream sister for Archie.

I am not making any decision till I see her and in all honesty I am a bit scared of homing a breed I don't know as I have always been a mog owner. after seeing Princess last week and missing out there will have to be a connection as I want the right new member to join our family. Sean and I felt sorry for her and i reckon we could make up for the poor start she has had but I am nervous!

My Mum and Dad have 2 tonk sisters and before these two they had 2 tonks ..... Tonks are lovely .... they are a siamese / burmese cross so they are intelligent, friendly and people orintated.  This little girl sounds like she needs lots of love and a house to call her own.  Not saying the lady that owned her before didn't love her but living in a car is no life for anyone (human, canine or feline ... I feel so sorry for the person that was forced into that situation  :'( )

Thanks that link was interesting. well I can but look and go and see her. she would certainly get love, attention (and a ginger brother jumping on her head!) Now we have made the move we have no intention of moving . I think she is the right age for us too. Ella would still be top cat and hopefully Archie and Tilly would play together.

Can Tonks go out? I would worry if she had to be an indoor breed as with Ella coming and going and Archie about to tred the boords of the big wide world too, having an indoor cat would not seem fair.

My only concern is someone might be specifically looking for that breed and because I am more interested in the cat than the breed and perhaps she is easier to home than a moggie.

Yeah they can go out ..... at the end of the day she is still a CAT.  Just because she is pedigree (of course with no papers ... she is a mog  ;) ) you don't need to treat her any differently.  Once she knows her name and knows where she lives she will come back when called.  I have two pedigrees and they are treated no differently from the moggy.  They all go out and they all come in at bed time.

I hope the meeting goes well ... she looks like a little darling and I'm sure she will repay you 10 fold for giving her a chance.

Well I think we will keep the name Tilly. Although we will see but the general consensus from both of us is if she comes here she will be called Tilly. Will pop and see her and I will know straight away, then we just have to wait for the visit and her to be vacc'd and neutered!

Sounds more and more promising

We have Minmin Ragdoll who has outdoor access she loves it bringing me in leaves and sitting in the sun, she isn't the brightest in the pound but doesn't do rain or snow

Caspurr is having a long haul injection route due to a bad reaction 3 years ago and will have access to the outside to as he looks longingly out of all the windows but at 8kgs don't think much will challange him outwith the Clan

Pedigrees are lovely now I have 2 but love all my ferals and domestics just the same they are little fur children despite what a Pink Slip pedigree says :Luv2:

Well weirdly my gradnmothers name was Tilly. She died before I was born but it seems a nice touch !

Her being a pedigree means nothing really, only like I say that she may be snapped up quicker and maybe I should home another mog. Anyway tomorrow I will know as I will either fall in love with her or not :)

I've a pedigree bengal (called Tilly!) along with my three rescue mogs they are all just the same, the only thing with pedigrees is that you have some idea of the personality beforehand (well that is the theory anyway!) as for this poor little good, she looks like she needs help as much as anyone

my dilema is me Bengal lady who's 9 months old she hasn't been spayed yet and when she is do i let her out with the others or not
I also have a ragdoll and he loves to go out he comes back covered in leaves so he must be having fun out there lol

Please don't think she will be any easier to re home just because she is a pedigree, sadly it is just as hard to re home pedigree cats as it is moggies :'( Sadly there are lots of pedigree cats and kittens waiting to come into Patsy as well , the amount of pedigree cats as defintely sadly got far worse  .
Yes its true that certain breeds have different traits , but you don't always get a cat that acts normal for the breed. I have a birman who isn't really anything like a birman personality wise , many people have sad to me he is more like a bengal as he is way to clever for his own good, then on the other hand my raggies are all as they say ragdolls are , big lazy lumps with not much up top in the brain department lol.
I didn't put the details behind why this little girlie came into rescue because I wasn't sure if Patsy wanted me to say anything, but yes she was living in a car poor baby, so I am sure that is how she got into the state she did. She will need a home where she will get lots of TLC as she has been getting from Patsy, she has the cutest meiow as well coz I was on the phone with Patsy not long after she was brought in and she was having a cuddle then.
Good luck do let us know if you end up adopting her

Oops sorry Kelly-Joy I should have thought about the info I posted! Have left a message with Patsy about popping over tommorow, it's not too far from us so it may all be happening for a reason. She will be loved if she comes to us - hoping we pass the home check!

Before I helped at the CHAT sanctuary I thought the pedigrees would find homes easily but there are two beautiful snowshoe cats there that were there when I started 7 months ago and are still there. They are quite young as well. I also overheard a conversation with someone wanting to bring in a couple of persians. The member of staff was saying they were difficult to home. Maybe it's because people who want breeds generally go to a breeder rather than a rescue centre.

Well I am seeing her tomorrow around 2pm, so I will keep you posted. Looks like they have quite a bit of interest in her but she is letting me meet her first! Although that again makes me feel that maybe she is a cat that will be snapped up and I should be looking at another cat that isn't. Hmm anyway I will let my heart rule my head when I meet her and will see how I go and what i feel.

nervous!!

I will find out tomorrow but even tho it would be a month before she joined us, I can't take the risk that something could be passed to Ella or Archie x

Well we are leaving in ten minutes, although i will be happy for Tilly if she has a home, I will be a bit peeved if we go down there for nothing. Plus we are certianly not at the stage of a homecheck, this is a cat check as I need to find out about her health and whether she has the right temprement to fit it with Ella and Archie!

I shall let you know!!

Hi guys. Well we have been to see Tilly. She looks so much better than the picture below. All her fur has grown back and she looks really healthy now. We had a cuddle and she is a real live wire but I am going to be honest, she wasn't for us. She is probably longer hair than I imagined and I think the initial concerns about us adopting a breed came back. Both Sean and I were worried to say to the other one "No" as we both hoped she would be the right cat as as she is for age, gender and even location (plus we like the name!) but we are going to continue our search. I am really sorry :( sorry Tilly :(

I actually feel bad not taking her in but she wasn't the right little beauty for us.

I hope you find a beautiful home Tilly xxx

Don't feel bad Simon, we rejected two pairs of cats before we found our girls and both times I felt terrible but if a cat's not right for you then there's nothing you can do about it. Far better that she wait a bit longer for the right home than for you to take her and not be 100% certain about it.

I'm sure Tilly will find that perfect home very soon.

Sara, this may sound silly but I remembered that before I went! I actually said to myself it was about the right cat and not to jump in and I remember your search for Drum and Bass. So actually that helped.

Tilly was stunning but she was verging on longer hair and I don' think that would work for us.

Oh .... if she has long hair then she's not a pure Tonk.  Tonks have a very sleek smooth coat ... like a Siamese .... definately would never be classef as long or semi long haired.
