Title: URGENT TRAP REQUIRED TO RESCUE INJURED CAT - SITTINGBOURNE, KENT - SORTED
Post by: moira on April 14, 2011, 16:48:19 PM
Cross posted from Catchat.

'Hi
We have a stray cat in our area (sittingbourne,Kent) who I've heard crying during the night almost every night for weeks now, My neighbour has told me today that she has actually seen this cat and says that it has a broken back leg, she has fed it and has tried to get it to come near to her but it won't come too close, we desperately need to catch this cat to get it some vetinary help but need a trap, please can anyone help. I've called RSPCA but its engaged and there is just an answer phone on at the local CP. (sorry posted in wrong area of forum, have re-posted in health & behaviour)'

Don't have contact details for poster but can contact with CC.  she has tried RSPCA who referred her to CP who referred her back to RSPCA.

Anyone in Kent who can help?

Apologies if I have posted in wrong place.

I replied to Moira to say yes, I got a trap but this is 30 miles away from me. There surely must be someone closer.

We are a good 25 miles away - Isle of Sheppey CP is probably closest with Maidstone perhaps next closest unless Medway CP is still running.

Well it's all getting a bit complicated with several people getting the heads up and passing on messages but none of them ending up in the right place.

I don't see the trap as the issue as several of us could loan a trap, some vet surgeries even have traps as well.... the issue is that a cat with a broken leg can't be transported very far without risk of making matters far worse. So if anyone speaks directly to the lady trying to sort this cat please make the point she needs a local vet to agree to take it in and stabilise the leg before anything else. CP and RSPCA branches have individual agreements with individual vets and it's hard to know which vet in the immediate area has rescue arrangements. So I would start by asking the nearest vet if they have any links to rescue groups. Hopefully she can find a vet willing to work this way. If not, try to get an RSPCA log number which will release £60 from RSPCA HQ - that's a start.  ;)

Once the cat is in the vet, then obviously comes the search for a rescue to take it in which is another matter entirely. But the leg needs stabilising first.  ;)

Dulcie has just posted on CC that her local CP are helping her trap the cat. Many thanks for offers of help from Purrs peeps.
