The 2011 Purrs Cat Show is on it's way and, as always, all money raised will be distributed between our registered rescues :wow: :wow: :wow:.
I'll be asking you to email me your photo entries, as attachments, from SATURDAY 23 APRIL and FINAL DATE for emailing pics and payment will be THURSDAY 5 MAY.
FULL DETAILS OF HOW TO ENTER WILL COME LATER
This thread is to give ya some notice that ya need to start clicking those furry guys and gals... :pic sneek:
It will be £1 per ENTRY in any Class. Generally that will mean one picture entered in 3 Classes will be £3. However the more alert of you will notice that Class 2 requires two pics for the one ENTRY ..... :)
Please remember that, whilst I am no techie, I am able to resize most pics emailed to me (if not too small; minimum 600 pixels would be fab) and I can also add your captions to pics for the LOLcats section. Naturally it makes my job easier if you are able to though! ;)
The furbabes in the pics should be of cats that have been cared for by you at some point in their lives. No Photoshop stuff either I'm afraid. All "au naturel" if ya don't mind :innocent:
I am extremely grateful for everyone's suggestions for this year's CATegories. For further inspiration, I have gone back to read through previous years' suggestions coz this is serious stuff tha knows :agree:
My aim has been to try and ensure peeps can enter as many classes as possible so I've tried to exclude references to breed, colour and age. I think I succeeded apart from age (see Class 4) for which I hope I'll be forgiven :-[.

The Classes for the Purrs Cat Show 2011 are................
1. LOLcats :yayyy:
2. From this to ..... THIS (which apart from showing young uns blossoming would hopefully show fabulous work of rescues :hug:)
3. Video of Furbabe(s) - (suggest max 30 seconds and will need to be sent to me as a link already uploaded to either Youtube or Photobucket. This Class is gonna be especially useful for all those fidgets out there that won't stay still for pics!)
4. Golden Oldies (aged 15 yrs and over) :)
5. Relaxing Cats
6. Playful Cats
7. Cat Expressions
8. Cat Positions
9. Cute Cats
10. Mainly Fluffy Suited Cats
11. Mainly Smooth Suited Cats
12. Cats and their pals - (to include feline and non feline pals)
As last year, voting will be as follows:
All Classes
Semi Final
Final
You can enter as many classes as you like with the same picture, as long as it appropriate to the Class title.
As always, voting will be done by the membership of Purrs.
So please start getting your photos together, saving a few quid for entries and wait for details of submission

I've been trying to use my FB account and the Purrs FB account to mention the Cat Show but I wonder if just posting something on my wall actually gets noticed by all of my FB friends :shify: or I should be doing something else?

No that post doesnt reach people, I looked on your wall to find it and by then it was 19hrs old and I couldnt see it in the news feed.

Someone tipped me off recently that facebook have been fiddling with the settings so that the default setting means you only see wall posts of people you have recently interacted with, there is a way to alter it so that you see wall posts for all friends though.

So how do you do this?

If you scroll to the bottom of your wall there is a blue bar across the bottom, on the right hand side click 'edit options' you then have a choice between 'Show posts from': All of your friends and pages OR Friends and pages you interact with most.
I feel I should mention that I spend no time at all on the computer, its just a complete coincidence that I happen to know this :rofl: ..........really......

Sooooo.... am I right thinking that all I can do is post about the Purrs Cat Show on my wall. It's then up to my FB friends to edit their settings to allow them to see posts by their FB friends who don't use FB much i.e. ME :-[

Yes it's up to each individual to adjust their settings and most people probably have no idea they are missing anything, your only option is to send all your friends a message through facebook which they will see rather than a wall post, and tell them how to change their settings, then ask everyone to re-post your wall post onto their own walls to spread the word!

In the certain knowledge that I won't have time, when I'm inundated with all the Cat Show entries from 23 April, I started sorting through a few of our pics at the weekend. A bit like our own little show really.
Amazingly I've already been able to whittle down our possible entries to 98 and am hopeful of whittling it down even further ..... :innocent: :heeee heeee:

I have bene snapping every chance i get and i thin ki know how our Helen gets such good pics .... I fink she goes mad at snapping while cats are in action to be the great pics she does. so i had a go taking loads in one go and i got a good one of Marl .... it's quite scary :scared: :scared: :evillaugh:

That's exactly what I do, take 50 odd pics of one play session. I normally end up with one or two good pics but my problem is I can't delete the rubbish ones - hence why I have over 13,000 images (not just of Lukey & Riley I hasten to add :naughty:) on my PC :Crazy:
Will have to sort through for pics to enter when I get a spare 24 hours :evillaugh:

I was given a tip last night by a semi-pro photographer and thats what was recommended was to shoot in bursts,,,,,,,,,,,like leave finger on the button if you have a camera that allows this ;D

I was using i phone in garden and taking as many as i could at them playing. Of course normally i go off to get iphone to take pics and they stop what they were doing!!! :-: :innocent:

I bin asked about "what if peeps want to enter videos of pusscats but videos over 30 secs long".....
I would very much like to encourage entries in the video class especially as it's a teeny weeny bit more complicated for peeps to enter a video rather than a pic. I am therefore inclined to be lenient (OK so I iz a pusshhh ovver ;)) and suggest a max of 30 secs as a guide (due to average person's attention span) rather than a fixed period of time.
Do so hope this doesn't mess anyone about and take this opportunity to remind peeps that entries can be sent to me from this Saturday! :shocked:

There is a way you can send things out to friends.....
um you may have to click them all- not hard in my case.
you can certainly create an event and invite them all (clicking them.....sigh)

I've been sending out information for my Group/Event but now I’m being warned for spamming. Is there a way I can inform my friends of the Group/Event I have created?

soo, I have been trawling through my pictures of Tinks and Davey and am facing some tough decisions.
lots of my pics are in the same classes the majority of times - either being lolcats or cat positions.
are there limits on how many different pictures you can submit to each class? I think I read this somewhere about you being able to submit as many as you like but I don't remember if it was about submitting different pics or the same pic into different classes?
sooooooo difficult but hopefully Rosella will be pleased to know that I have been renaming the pics I've definitely decided to use for your convenience :)

Can't begin to say how happy I am to be getting queries as it means that pics are on their way ..... :wooooo: I soooo understand about it being difficult to choose between pics. You can submit as many different pics as ya like in same class or same pics in different classes :) however .... whispas...... bear in mind it's best to spread pics amongst as many classes as poss as otherwise your pics are competing against each other in 1st round ;)

Rosella did say in her instructions...
1. Please send your entries to me, Rosella Moggy, using the email in my profile. They should all be attachments rather than embedded into email.
...it looks like she has her email hidden though :doh:
Best bet would be to PM her and then she can a) let you have the email addy and b) turn it on in her profile :wow:

I was waiting for my first big booboo but have to say, thought I'd got email addy covered.
Hopefully some kind, clever soul can sort me out soon but meanwhile I've included email addy in Cat Show instructions to cover all bases..................

I think I've cracked it...
The old forum software used to have the choice between displaying the email in your profile to all users or switching it off so your email was not displayed in your profile.
The new software has an 'Allow users to email me' box instead. This allows users to click on the little envelope symbol under your name and send you an email from the email that they are registered on Purrs with but DOESN'T reveal your actual email address like the old software used to.
In light of that is it best to edit the instructions post with your new rosellamoggy@gmail.com email addy so people can see where to send the entries?

lol didn't realise the new software hides email addies from profile and let you email vis the software as i can see all email addies in the profiles as admin. Just loggin in my test account ochi and nope ya can see the email but can send emails using the envelope icon which is no good if wanting to attach pics!

I couldn't figure out how come peeps were having a problem attaching pics as I'd had some through OK from a member that didn't know my email address :dont get it: Have gone back to check and realise she sent them through as links to Photobucket. Rosella, in answer to your fb question if you go to what you have posted on the purrs page and click on "share", that post will appear on your wall for your friends to see. you can also add a comment so could do it daily. other members can share it and it will appear on their walls too.

1st round voting will start on Thurs 26 May which thankfully gives me time to load up the pics and videos (as there are quite a few ;D ) ............... so now a little patience is all that's needed.

The beauty of the Purrs Cat Show is that you get more than one vote in each class so you can vote for your own beauties and other people's beauties too ;D
Obviously if you don't want to vote for your own cats you're welcome to vote for my boys instead :naughty: :evillaugh:

OK folks this is part of the early warning system....

It is a very odd thing I know but, some Classes have more entries than others :innocent:. For instance, for some reason that I simply cannot fathom :innocent: Class 5 "Relaxing Cats" has a "few" more entries than others :Crazy: :Crazy: :Crazy:
Consequently you will discover when ya vote that you will be allowed completely different numbers of votes for EACH CLASS which are determined by the number of entries in that particular Class.
I have a feeling this actually may have happened in past Purrs Cat Shows and some members did not realise :shocked: I do not want a repeat of similar disappointments this year coz once ya press the button to submit ya votes, there's no goin' back :scared:
Further similar warnings will be posted peeps so I apologise in advance for repetition :)

Yes definately listen to the fact once the vote button is pressed thats it and you cant add, subtract or change your votes in any way.
Read the instructions for every class and remember them :innocent:
It wont let you vote if you have picked too many entries.

I can testify that the Cat Show is a great amount of work and the best way that this can be acknowledged and also to honour all the furbabes entered is for loads and loads of peeps to vote ;D
As said everyone is a winner just by being entered and supporting cat rescue and every cat or kitten is stunning, so on Friday Thursday onwards let those votes roll in ;D

Might just be my connection but a lot of the pics aren't loading for me, even when I click refresh it's the same pics that don't load :shy:

I have had that problem for ages and only way I can see them is clicking on link underneath and they open in Irfan view which is my picture default.
I also cant download anything as a jpg as they all come down as a png with a jpg extention and then I have to resave as a proper jpg. png files are much bigger than jpgs and this has happened after downloading a pic to FB and now my sytem is corrupting everything.
So the paperes say its a win 7 thing and means your cache is full.................this is a load of garbage becuase mine isnt even close to being full.

I'm using Firefox, I don't think it's a Purrs issue as I tried on my PC rather than the laptop and can see more on the PC. The laptop was loading a cm of the pic and stopping, my PC loads whole pics but misses some out completely.
I've found a workaround though...
Click on teh link under the missing pic>a popup appears asking you what program to open the pic in>click OK and abracadabra pic appears ;D

does sound like a speed internet thing where the pics are taking time to load?? ie faster on ya pc than laptop if pc has a better connection. are they both wire connected or wireless?

Both wireless, laptop has a wireless card and PC has a wireless dongle in the back. I switched to O2 broadband recently and am supposed to be getting superfast speeds but apparently not :tired:
I wouldn't say they are taking time to load though as certain ones just don't load at all. That said I just clicked on the lolcat class again (on PC) and all pics were there instantly - not even a few seconds delay.
I still think it's an issue my end rather than Purrs but there is a quick workaround so no problem. The only problem is gonna be deciding who to vote for ;D

Having the same problem looking at them on my work pc but again it is more likely to be at this end and pcs not particularly wonderful. Can see some pics but others I just get the red cross like Helen has shown. I can see them if I click on the pic title tho and open them up.
We are on IE8 here.

The loaded pics would have saved in your cashe and then the ones that took longer to download would save in cash once all downloaded so hence when ya clicked in again all pics showed up instantly. Say if you deleted your cashe, it would take time to relaod again so red crosses would appear.
Have ya tried connecting pc by lan wire to ya router? Lan connection always gets a better connection & speed than wireless. I have pc connected by lan cable to router and lappy through wireless card and i always get better speeds through pc than lappy.
Yeah ya both so right the pics are superb and when i was doing the polls i thought gowd this is going to be so hard to vote as all of them are brilliant and gorgeous! :Luv: :Luv:

I sonetimes cannot see all the pictures - that is generally on Purrs and not just the cat show pictures. There was a topic on Tech problems a couple of months ago which people said may be the speed. Found this on microsoft:

The pic problem has existed here since I got Win 7 and I load quicker than before and have faster speeds.
I usually dont even get a red cross just a blank space with a name underneath.
The pictures are fully loaded and its the same pics missing all the time and I put up the work around probably while you were typing Helen, funnily its Tans pics I am having the most probs with and they show up at this end as IE 5 LOL.
Nothing makes any sense cos Rosella put them all up the same way and sure she is not using IE 5.
I think its a win 7 thing again and just hate it so much.
I can comfirm that newbies can see the show and vote and some of the entries were by newbies 4 weeks ago lol

Only instruction is in the title of the thread you are voting in AND do not click that you want your votes gone until you are sure you have voted up to the right amount, cos if you one short you cant go back.
The threads have polls on them and you tick the boxes where you want the votes and then press send or vote or what ever BUT BUT BUT if you want to vote for the full number allowed make sure you have ticked all of them............yes I know I am repeating myself but this is so important cos you cant change your vote once you have voted.
Basically its just like doing a poll.

We decided from when we did the very 1st cat show a few years back now that we would feel awful if anyone felt upset if their gorgeous babe (and i really mean it they are all gorgeous :Luv:) didn't get through. So we don't disclose how the voting is going and then only the cats that make it through to each round.
This is the hardest bit for me as i worry too much that anyone may get upset if their babe didn't make it through. Definitely would never want to upset anyone esp as it has been because of all who entered that we have raised the money for the needy cats. :Luv: :Luv:
The cats pic a really stunning ... all of them and all of them are winners cause they have helped the needy ones :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:

yes mee too Si. It is always my biggest concern as i would never want anyone to feel upset about a fundraiser we do for the needy ones. The thing is without you wonderful lot we wouldn't be giving nowt to the needy babes in rescue so each one of us and all our stunning babes are winners in our eyes :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
It's why it's best if noone knows what all the results are except for the ones that get through to next round.

The show will go off line while the semis are being worked out but as far as I can tell under the new software it will have to stay down until the semis are posted, so think the answer is no.
I think in the old software we could take the show down and then put up the last voting level while next one was being sorted but that option is not open to us as far as I can see.
The show will be taken off line at 2000 precisely :evillaugh: :evillaugh: and the voting will be locked.

The classes section will re reopened for viewing with a list of all the cats that made it through to the semi's with a pic of the cat with the highest number of votes in that class. The list after the top pic will be in no particular order but all through to next round.

I'm sure my Cidie would be thrilled to know she got through to the second round. You folks never me her but she left us last year at 19 years of age. She was small in stature but had the biggest purr in the world. I'm sure she is still here guiding Callie and Monty in the ways of the world. We miss her every day too as well as Kennedy x

Can't begin to explain how tight votes were ............ well without telling ya'll the exact number of votes which I ain't gonna do :naughty: All I will say is that there were ties; not one or two either :shify:.
We didn't want to exclude any of the ties from the Final so us Purrs members only have ourselves to blame that we now have to................

In view of the number of ties in the semis, I'm getting very nervous that there will be ties in the final :scared: :scared: :scared: so there's a new rule in an effort to avoid putting our judges (7 long term members with no tittentats in the Show) through the awful ordeal of choosing between ties. New rule is that, in event of ties, number of semi final votes achieved by the tied pics/videos will be taken into account. A bit like the number of passes taken into account in Mastermind but in a positive way :evillaugh:
