Title: Prema - lovely Felv girl looking for a home - Blackpool Cats in Care (Sorted)
Post by: JackSpratt on November 05, 2010, 17:18:39 PM
Prema is an affectionate young girl who came to Blackpool Cats in Care after living on the streets. She's a cuddly semi long haired lady and will require regular grooming to ensure her coat stays in good condition. Happy to share her home with other cats.

Due to her condition it is advised Prema is an only cat.

She is lovely. Been with Nicky a good few months now, though so Nicky is trying a little harder to find her somewhere because with all rescues I'd think, it saddens her to see a nice cat being so overlooked.

"Brenda is fine. She is a little dote and no trouble, so well behaved and well mannered. She  has her little routine now. She sleeps during the day in the front room,  and comes alive during the evening. She enjoys dashing up and down the stairs room to room, playing, tires herself out, has her tea (she really enjoys her food) has a  cuddle and them go's back to sleep when I go to bed back in her own room.  Oh its a hard life.

Every morning she sits looking out of my patio doors at my garden. So  I now take her for a little explore around my garden for a short period every morning and she loves it, playing with the leaves and sniffing everything. (She is quite secure and wears a cat harness and lead) But if she hears a loud noise she drags me straight back inside. She is such a sweet little thing. Anyone taking her on would need to know she needs a lot of outside socialization (on a cat harness) before she can be let out on her own. (months I would imagine)."

she's lovely

but don't you  think the name Brenda might put some people off? I know it shouldn't, but we live in a shallow world

I do sometimes wonder if rescue cats are best given non human names, in case a would-be rescuer is put off because they knew, and disliked, a Brenda, or Lucy, or Maggie or whatever

You could have a point there Trigger, never thought about it!

She is gorgeous though and sounds like a lovely wee thing, hope she finds her forever home soon :Luv:

This is where I'm honest....whenever I'm sent photos with a few details but no names for the site I hardly ever use human names. I tend to look for the most unusual but fitting name possible. There's a litter of kittens I was told needed to go on the site that all got pirate names. One of them is called "Pugh" after  the character in Treasure Island I think it is.

Other names I like are foreign names that have meanings about being a blessing or something similar. Her fosterer is currently calling her Jenny which to me isn't really any more appealing. (Sorry to any Jennys; I like the name for a person!)

Brenda is lovely  :Luv:

Some of the names I see just make me chuckle.  I suppose people can change the names anyway and may be some peeps would be put off but it wouldn't me  ;D

OK, Brenda now has a new name on the site to check out the "human names" theory.....she's now called Prema which is the feminine form of a Hindi name and means love.

 ;)

This girl urgently needs a new home as her fosterer is moving and no other foster homes have any space. Not sure if this necessitates moving to the urgent section.

Janey, can this be moved to urgent? The shortage of fosterers for BCIC (and the fact that the fosterer that has Prema is going away for a while) necessitates it, unfortunately.

Ok, hopefully Prema won't be waiting long.

eta: Just had a look at her photo and I'm surprised she's still waiting.

Hello

I am not a fosterer but I would be wiling to foster Prema as I do have a spare room, sort of. I am in Bolton-le-Sands, which is near Morecambe.

Let me know if this is of any help. You never know.

Julie

Hello

Just wondering if a foster home has been found.

As I said, I am not a fosterer but would be willing to foster this little girlie if the situation is still desperate. I realise that I am not in the Flyde area, but I am quite close, just up the coast.

I also realise that i and my home would have to be checked, which is not a problem. If all went well maybe I could be a back up fosterer, with me not being in the immediate area.

Julie, if you email NicholaHolye@aol.com and explain you'd be happy to be homechecked and step in as a fosterer I'm sure she'd be pleased to hear from you.

Hello

Nicky may have found somewhere for Prema, she will let me know if it falls through.

She has asked if I would be willing to help as they are always bursting at the seams. I have said I would and emailed details of myself/family/cats etc. Just waiting for a reply.

I will let you know.

Thank you

Julie

Hello

Nicky has just emailed me back. She has sorted something out for Prema so she does not need my help.

As for other cats needing to be fostered, she said none are good with other cats, I have 6 of my own.

She still needs fosterers she said if I knew anybody, but I am guessing they would need to be cat free themselves.

Just wanted to let you know. I will probably call my local rescue centre and see if they need any help with fostering/going to stroke cats in the rescue etc..

Sadly, Prema needs to be rehomed....a worry arose about a lab mix up with blood results so a re-test was done. Prema has Felv - she isn't really showing any symptoms but the lady caring for her has other cats and clearly mixing them isn't a good idea. She's actually pretty upset about it all. :(

I have just read this http://www.catchat.org/leukaemia.html

If I have read it correctly it doesn't mean the ladies other cats will catch the virus, especially if they are adult cats.

I took in a stray a number of years ago and he lived with us for 6 months before my vet suggested testing (he kept getting mouth ulcers), anyway, he tested positive for FIV but we kept him and he lived happily will our other cats for a further 2 years, he had to be pts he had two strokes. Four out of my five cats that lived with Chappie are still living today and are all negative. My sixth cat was also negative, she lived to the ripe old age of 22!!!!!

Just thought it might help.
