Title: Navejo - a lovely Bengal boy needing a home - DERBYSHIRE (Now safe in rescue)
Post by: JackSpratt on September 11, 2010, 11:00:22 AM
Navejo is an ex breeding male who has no interest in breeding any more. I would estimate between 4 - 8 years of age, as it's difficult to tell due to the state of his fur. (Long story, but one we all know. Breeders more motivated by money than care for the breed.)

He is NOT suited to living with other cats or animals as he's been a breeder for his entire life and is aggressive towards other cats. With this in mind, it is essential a new home keeps him indoors or cat proofs their outdoor area. Even after neutering, it's felt he'd still be massively territorial.

Navejo has a slight limp after catching his leg in a radiator and falling but it seems to cause his no problems.

He is fairly affectionate with people, but I think he needs a little time to get used to cuddles to enjoy them fully.

PLEASE PM me if you can help.

Poor Boy - it is just happening far too often.  Our Bengal breeder rehomes studs after about 2 years but they are all loving and affectionate and most of the time are fine with other cats.

I will ask around for this boy in the "Bengal world"

Seriously needs to be with NO other cats and indoor only. Cannot stipulate enough how important that is.

Tan, it's very long and complicated. I can PM you if you want.

Oh the poor boy  :'( How the hell does the breeder not know how old he is?!  >:(

So so sad he is aggressive towards other cats and animals. I just cannot understand how some people can treat their animals in a way that causes them to be like this.

If the breeder is a registered one I'd be letting the relevent registering body (ie GCCF/FIFe/TICA) know so they can start disiplinary proceedings against him/her.

I really hope he finds a wonderful home soon with people who deserve him.

JS: I'd be interested to know a bit more about his background too.

Have you tried the Bengal rescue - OK we might have to buy him form the breeder (doubt they will let him go free) then get him to Bengal rescue, where they can assess him and put him up for adoption, they will only let him go to an experienced bengal person.
Worth a try -

operation Navejo. I will put toward the donation if we get one together.

Gail, I don't think you'll need a fee. And yes, I'm waiting for a letter stating the woman is relinquishing ownership of Navejo before Bengal Rescue can take him.

Hopefully that won't be too long. :(

Thanks for thinking of him - I'm pretty worried as he's "served his purpose" now.

Thanks so much Pauline

Sadly, Pauline is unable to help after all. Her isolation set up, although in place, isn't ideal for Navejo. Any help would be appreciated.

Have contacted Bengal Rescue for a relinquishment form but have had no response..... :scared:

Right, I have a friend who would consider looking after this boy (on an indoor only basis) IF I can secure funding for supplies. (Food, litter etc.) She'd love to take him on properly but is worried they don't have enough money to do so.

Basically, if anyone's prepared to help let me know. Also, any advice on specific dietary requirements for Bengals would be appreciated.

Still working on the paperwork. :tired: I'm "not allowed" to talk to the breeder directly, but if this continues I'll be pushing to do so.

Hun that's good news if he can be out of the cage he is in at the mo.

I am very willing help with some funds but a bit worried that if your very nice friend can't afford to look after him if funds run out. What would happen to him?  I am sure he would be much better off out of the current stables cage setup even if on temp basis only though.

Has she had experience with troubled Bengals before?

Can ya pm hun

xxxxx

I've a bengal js, she doesn't have any particular needs that other cats don't some suffer with tummy troubles but fortunately it isn't a given for all and mine doesn't - she has a standard diet of felix and royal canin - she is wonderful and I hope to always have a bengal in my life - let me know how I can't help with donations I'd love to see this poor boy settled although like tan am a bit worried about what happens if money runs out

TBH Dawn an ex stud that has not been properly socialized could come with a lot of behavioural problems - A very good breeder friend of mine was involved with rescue and I know that she took in ex studs and it took all her experience of the breed and a lot of time to bring these boys round so that they were homeable.  Im sure if needed I could ask her for advice.
Does anyone know what lines he is originally from because his original breeder may be able to help
I really hope that he can find his forever home soon.
Title: Re: Navejo - a lovely Bengal boy needing a home - DERBYSHIRE
Post by: JackSpratt on September 28, 2010, 21:26:39 PM
He's with his original breeder to my knowledge. I sent an email asking a Bengal Rescue to send me their official paperwork as they told me to, and they've ignored it. So I'VE made a relinquishment form and someone is passing it on.

A friend offered to care for him, but she's never had a cat before and I think he'd be a toughie for an introduction into cat care..... :scared:

Only a first name. Because of her "personal circumstances" the people I know are being pretty protective with any more information. Pees me off, actually.

I keep thinking about this poor boy and am going to speak to my breeder friend at the weekend to see if she has any ideas of anyone that can help him.

Thanks Sheryl.

And yes, it's utterly disgusting. I have in the past ended up with rats from pet shops when the shops feel they're unlikely to produce "decent offspring" due to advancing years. :tired:

The cage, in my opinion, is not big enough and there's nothing for him to do in it. Am still waiting for more information, but to be honest if things don't progress soon I'm taking drastic action.

I have just read this for first time and seen the picture of that cage. The poor boy would be better PTS than endure this endless torment.

Really? That's what the breeder wants to do; hopefully someone with some knowledge of Bengals will be able to help - but I'm told he's so bad with other cats that putting him in a home with them just wouldn't work. To be honest, I'm feeling quite stressed out and upset about it all. I was told about this boy a little while ago and shown where he was more recently but have been told I can't inform the appropriate authorities about him. Not sure why I was shown him if I'm not allowed to do anything. :(

I want to thank Pauline and Sheryl for their help with getting Navejo out of his present situation and to a much more improved environment. They've been wonderful. :)

Sheryl has a contact who is very experienced with the breed that is going to be doing a full check on this lad and seeing how much rehabilitation is necessary. He'll then be looking for a permanent new home...... ;)
