Title: LOST- Tigger- Aberdeen
Post by: Team Svartalfheims on April 05, 2007, 12:37:33 PM
I've never had to write one of these before so I am not exactly sure what to write (please let me know if there is anything else I need to add to this post).

Tigger is a long haired black and white Bengal x Persian with a black splodge on her chin. She is spayed and microchipped.

She is very timid of strangers.

She went missing from her cat run last night (4th April) in the Jesmond/Whitestripes area of Aberdeen.

Reward offered for her safe return.

Sorry to hear your furbabe has gone AWOL.

Here are a few things to try:

1. Posters, Posters, Posters  with picture and details with contact number.....hand out to neighbours and anyone you see. Put up in local shops, pubs and supermarkets. Stick to all local lamp posts. (If it rains go and collect them and replace - the neighbours and council don’t mind you putting them up so much that way). Also put one in your and friends cars – it’s amazing how many people see them this way. Make smaller flyers and push through every letterbox on your streets and the surrounding area.   Remember you can never have too many posters out there!   It is also a good idea to offer a Reward … of course this doesn’t have to be money, a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers is just as good.

2. Knock on  doors and ask neighbours to check their sheds and garages WHILE YOU WAIT … it's surprising how many people say they will check but as soon as the door is closed they forget. It is recommended to knock on 10 doors either side of your house on both sides of the street.

3. Register him lost at all vets/catteries/rescue homes within a 20mile radius (remember to keep a record of everyone you contact) follow the link and clink on the map to find local rescues in your area:  http://www.catchat.org/adoption/index.html

4. Leave food out and a toy of his

5. Leave out an unwashed item of your clothing

6. Put the contents of your hoover bag on your garden - it’s full of smells that they will recognise and if it doesn’t bring him directly to your door will at least hopefully keep him in the area.  Alternatively if you have a litter tray that has used put some of the used litter on the garden as this will have familiar smells in it.

7. Contact the local fire brigade and see if they have had to rescue any stuck cats

8. Ask the local children to look - they are great for knowing all the local hidey-holes and love helping. Also have a word with your local post-person and milk man if there is one that delivers in your area.  Also ask people walking their dogs as they tend to go “off road” in the fields and parks.

9. Ask the local radio station to announce he’s missing and give out a contact number

10. Put an advert in the local paper

11. Contact your local environmental services dept (bin men) they keep a log of all animals picked on the roadside ... I know this is not a pleasant call to make and hopefully it will come back as negative.

12. Go out after dark when it is quieter with a friend / partner and walk round the local area gently calling every so often (give him a chance to answer you). Keep talking as you walk round that way if he is in the area he will hear you.

13. When you talk to vets and rescues, ask them about any known local feral colonies and where they are based.  If  Kitty has been missing for more than a few days s/he might have wandered further afield and might be “hanging round” near a colony for security (safety in numbers) and company. If vets/rescues know locations of colonies, these might be useful to get some ideas of where to start looking.

Finally have a look at these sites - they are all EXCELLENT

http://www.chaptanservices.com/purrs/index.php… please get a post on this site ASAP …. This is a relatively new forum but most of the memebers have moved over from CatChat are are very experienced resucers / carers and cat lovers and everyone is incredibly helpful.

Good luck and stay positive.

Hopefully your little one has just got itself shut in a shed somewhere.

And finally …….  IMPORTANT NOTE:  When you get your furbabe back remember to remove ALL the posters and inform all vets / rescues / websites etc that they are home.

oh lottie im so sorry she's escaped, how did the monkey manage that ?

as everyone else said but also phone every vet in the area, phone dog and cat home, dog wardens, when seb went missing i also left my details with police (who were very nice and took ALL details) and also the enviormental health.

and yes since your in the city zillions of posters and also perhaps if you dont get her back today put a bit in the p & j for her and also another good idea is phone NORTHSOUND AND NECR RADIO stations and get them to do appeals, i know necr (teuchters radio but lots of peeps listen to it)

put some posters up in all your nearest shops etc ie asda b of don etc etc

oh lottie im so sorry she's escaped, how did the monkey manage that ?

Looks like 2 of the bits holding the roof on either came off in the bad winds last month and we didn't notice or they have been cut.. and then she's got out through the gap. Have elft her food and water on top of her cat house. Hopefully she'll be home once she needs the loo (she won't go except in a litter tray)

Only reason Bilbo wasn't out as well was because he'd been kept in so he didn't get dirt in his needle hole.

We've phoned a load of vets and taken some posters in, phoned some rescue/stray cat places, got to wait until 2pm for central Aberdeen CPL and 6.30pm for Outer Aberdeen CPL and wandered round all of the woodland hre and will do so again later..

Not that far from you have you also put Tigger on the have you lost your cat - for this area - we have just Rio on it now link below:

http://www.cats-reunited.co.uk/

This mainly covers the Grampian area and you can put a picture on it and enter details yourself.

Good luck she comes home soon

Thanks Liz, we're hoping we get a sighting of her soon so we at least know what area she's in and then as soon as we have a sighting I'll be in touch about a trap. Thanks ever so much. Theres so much woodland and fields round here she could be anywhere so we're just spending hours searching in the hope we can find her. Dave has said to give up for tonight now (we've just got back) and start the search again in the morning. Next door has dogs so she's going to show Tigger's picture to everyone she sees when she's out walking the dogs so fingers crossed someone will spot her.
I'll put her details up on that website as well.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts. I just want my baby back.

Lottie xx

Post by: Team Svartalfheims on April 06, 2007, 12:25:28 PM
No sign so far today. She's not been back into the run overnight and still no sightings :'(
Dave suggested taking Bilbo out onto the back path on his harness and lead last night (about 12.30am) in the hope he'd squeal for her and instead he started sniffing and walked us from the cat run over to the woods (he's never been there before) and so we're going to take him out with us later just in case he can still smell her as anything is worth a go.
We walked into the woods again early this morning when it was quiet and not fully light and couldn't hear or see any movement at all in any of the bushes. Tried shaking cat crunchies and her favourite squeaky toy that she usually goes mad for but no response. Hardly slept last night as I was up every hour or so in the night checking if she'd come back into the garden or run. The more time goes past the more panicked I'm getting. Dave's said he's going to drive along a load of roads later (I can't bear to do it just in case)  :'(

My son lost a very special cuddley toy last year and they did an article on us and had photographer etc out so hopefully they'll do it for lottie aswell and take pics of bilbo saying he's pining etc !!

Thanks for the shouts everyone, still nothing but I'm not going to give up. Been putting more posters up as someone has decided to take a load of them down, GRRRR  :mad2:
The lady next door has taken to walking her dogs the same route each day now in the hope that Tigger might follow their scent home as it will be one she recognises as home (Khari the scottie dog is her best friend and comes round to play in the run with her) so fingers crossed that might work as she is missed so much.

Ruth: Trying to keep myself busy at the mo otherwise I'd go mad as it's been so long since I last had a cuddle from my baby. The cat house, all the litter trays, bowls, water fountain etc have all been thoroughly scrubbed and Virkon S'd today to keep me busy and we are currently in the process of putting another layer of mesh over the top of the run to make it even more secure.

We have had one possible sighting in a forest nearby. A guy phoned at 9am on Tuesday morning to say he'd seen a cat in a thick bit of the forest very early that morning but he couldn't see clearly whether it was black and white or not and he said it looked like a very small cat when Tigger is quite a big girl so we are not sure if it is her or not but fingers crossed it is. We had a long long walk around the forest on Tuesday and yesterday and we haven't seen/heard anything yet but fingers crossed we'll find her and she'll be back home where she belongs soon.

Lottie the loan of a trap is still here perhaps setting a trap in the location may help as we found when looking for our own mob after the great escape we had more luck with the traps than looking as they tend to revert to night time and unless they want to be seen they won't no matter how domesticated - I had to trap Puma and I hand reared him from 10 days old and he thinks I am his mother couldn't get near him and he was in a trap after 18 days.

Remember she is scared and possibly in a strange place and a nice covered trap with smelly food never fails so please pm me.

Hope it iis her they do loose weight even in a short time well our exception to that was Miss gracie who discopvered where w had a feeding station and eventually went in a trap on day 30 ans was the same weight as when she left!

The good thing is that something is going in and the training session has proved that!

Might try kippers tonight and see if that will encourage her as I don't think you can get any more strong smelling than kippers. Unfortunately all of Tigger's favourite foods don't smell  much :(

Bless her heart she's going to be so scruffy by now (but on the positive side she'll have a lovely shaved spotty coat for summer lol.)  Hopefully she's not going to have picked up too many bad habits from the ferals and fingers crossed she'll remember how to use a litter tray!

We had someone phone call from someone saying they had let her out of the trap because it was cruel for her to be trapped and then had a huge go at me that she had bitten and scratched him (Tigger hates strangers and happily attacks anyone who makes her feel threatened). I went straight down to the forest but got no response when I was calling her so I reset the trap and unfortunately she hasn't gone back into it since. We've caught a few more ferals since then but for the past few days the trap has been completely empty and nothing has gone in at all. Have got tonight and tomorrow night left to trap her and then that's it until June  :'( :'(

That must be so sickening for your Lottie.
A good thing to do is to make a poster to leave with the trap explaining why its there, whats happening to the cats and a contact number for any concerned people to call.
Often an old lady who feeds feral cats will set them free thinking they will be pts, always good to befriend the locals!

The good thing from this is that you know shes ok and still in the area!
Isnt there anyone who could continue the trapping for you while your away? Its a long time to leave it.  :(

Lottie has the trap for as long as she needs and we are thinking of ways to help - we may set the trap at the weekends but work through the wek and its a hell of a trip through Aberdeen to do this for us.

All is not lost though Lottie is off to KFC for chicken for the trap - this is a fail safe method and she still has 2 whole nights to go so keeping all paws and fingers crossed here at the Clan Cats HQ.

We have also offered when madam turns up to do her 12 weeks isolation here so Lottie doesn't need to panic on that front.

Even a persian cross bengal will be nicer than some of my own mob! :innocent:

How about putting a note on the trap explaining what you are doing and asking anyone that sees a cat matching her description to ring you ?

Michelle, the trap was lablled while Lottie was using it but she has had to go back down the road but we are trying Plan B if I can sort someone out to check the trap it will be back, she is still around but like my own ladies when we had to trap them they will do it in their own good time not when we thinks its time.

Our offer still stands when Madam Tigger comes back, and Lottie now has her own feral colony plus the pedigrees to!

We're not able to trap as often now as my OH is back onshore and so has got the car everyday and is away several weekends (with car) but I'm out as often as I can searching for the llittle (well big) fluffball. We've had another 2 sightings in the forest still so sounds like she's still there which is brilliant, just a case now of waiting until she goes into the trap.

I am home this week working from home so if you want a hand give us a shout as we have another trap currently not in use as Rio is sitiing on them again - just have Sweetie at the vet so will be around

Good luck - once they have a food source it does make it easier and we caught our last one after nearly 7 months excluding Rio so keep the faith

Hi Liz! Still no luck. I haven't caught anything (except a rabbit) for the past 9 nights so was planning to give trapping a break for 2 or 3 nights then start again. The 'gang' aren't likely to be frightened off to another part of the forest are they?

Not really ours only took 7 months to retrap after the great escape but Rio is still elsuive afet 14 months and yes we do take a break and then put nice smelly food in agfain and have found this worked for us

Keep the faith and I'm sure she will be home soon and need to come and stay with us for a while!  She will then appreciate all your home comforts after the Clan have explained things to her!
