Title: IS IT ME WHO IS THICK?
Post by: Ela on November 23, 2006, 15:09:42 PM
I have just received a phone call asking if we had any kittens, I said that we have they are not old enough yet but they are all spoken for.
Caller: What do you have then?
Me:    Up to what age would you consider?
Caller: 8 weeks
Me:    Sorry we don't have any that age.
Caller  Well up to 2 months then.
Me:    That is about 8 weeks
Caller: Well I cannot work those sorts of things out.

You should have told that you don't have any that are 8 weeks old or 2 months old, only some that are 56 days old.

You are not going to believe me but in all honesty that did cross my mind but thought she may think me daft then, more importantly would she have understood, I think not.

Some people!!!

I had an odd phone call last night, someone asking about Tom. I said he had gone, and asked if she was looking for an older cat, so she said yes. I said I had a 13yo and she said 'not one that old' - I wonder where she saw Tom, as he was 12 on some and 13 on others, although after getting some info off Ela, I have stopped putting ages on, but she wanted a 1-2yo male - looking at Tom's pic, dont know how anyone can think he would be that young!!!

When people ask for a young cat usually because they want it to live longer, I always advise them that about 9 yrs ago I homed a 12 year old and it  is still alive and well yet kittens  and young cats homed last year and earlier this year are now sadly dead.

I'm a biochemist by degree but am in more of the molecular biology field now - specifically matrix biology as I'm doing a PhD involved in bone regeneration within the mandible.

Are you a scientist too??!  ;D

Its going well but hard work. In my field you need a PhD to progress anywhere so it was something I was always gonna do. The worst but is the crap stipend I get but my boss is great and the department lovely so I shouldnt moan. I have just under two years left and then I have to think about my future - again! Its alla  bit scary.

Forensics, oooh, I wanted to do forensics but not many places do it. As you said most of them are just analytical chem degrees. Good luck with it tho! And if a PhD isnt done in your field at the mo - well, if you do one you'll have an advantage over other people!

did think that!!!!
but apparently is so hard to implement anything new cos it just has to be sooooo watertight and taking evidence to court on new analysis methods can be tricky.

i love my degree, feel i'll be leaving (hopefully) with a really good qualification so thats good.
to be a soco you need GCSE's and a little training so... saying forensics can mislead sometimes.
all good fun!

Hi Ela I think if those people who phoned and asked that shouldnt get a kitten cos they obviously a bit simple, poor kitten having to go and live with them. Or maybe they were just a bit confused?
Title: Re: IS IT ME WHO IS THICK?

I am sure that I can confuse anyone.

Very often a conversation does not get off to a good start anyway as when I answer the phone I always say my number, a few people then just put the phone down, it rings again and I say my number again then they say I want Cats Protection, I say this is Cats Protection and they say why didn't you say when you picked up the phone, I then say well this is my private number and also my husbands business number.

Also I am sure you have all had it the phone rings you say your number and someones says I want xxxxxxxxx, you say sorry you have they wrong number and then it is your fault because they have the wrong number.

Lastly sometimes someone will ring and you know who it is before you answer, I sometimes will say I knew it was you and they say how, I will say I heard you dialing, it is surprising how many people say 'did you'. I first did this on mum (now sadly no longer here) she lived next door but one.

I have a degree in the science of life :) ...

Rather funny today as someone knocked at my door to tell me that there was a cat in her garden and she thought that it might be mine as she heard i had lost mine I did try to explain to her mine was found a while back (RIP SNARF) she then preceeded to say it was injured and thought i could help ( here we go) i asked her what was wrong and she said it was injured and needed help...

Anyway she told me it was a tabby when i got there it was a black and white cat and what she had said was injured was actually trapped ....anyway when i said i would get a box and take it to the vets to make sure it was okay she turned around and said no it is okay the cat actually belongs to my son but i was so scared it was injured i did not want to near it in case it attacked me!!!!

Why is that i walked away feeling very confused ?

littlebobo,

That is confusing but also worrying will this lost and confused soul know what to do with this cat to get it untrapped and cared for in the right manner?? I wonder...........

To be honest i am not sure she was all there herself the cat looked to be in very good condition and generally happy and content otherwise i would have done something about it..I have also got her 'Sons' address and have contacted the CP and RSPCA ..not sure what else i could do apart from take the cat in myself i also have contacted son well left a message on his mobile ..

Have to say i am a bit concerned by it all ...feel a little mucky fuddled ..

I have a degree in the science of life

I think that a degree from the university of life is very important and often is better than paper qualifications.  I had a young lady PA when I worked in the pensions section of the Post Office , she was delightful and  had loads of O & A levels, yet absolutely no common sense, e.g. one lunch time she said I am going into town and she said do you need anything, I said Oh! yes please we are decorating and have run out of striped paint can you call in at Sharps and get me a pot. She came back and said in all innocence they didn't have any. Her car was always breaking down and one day she described what was wrong with it this time, one of the lads said to her its your toggle washer that has gone just phone up and order one and I will do if for you. Xext minute she was on the phone to the garage asking for a toggle washer. It was like that almost daily.

LOL Ela!!!

I am a bit daft but not quite that bad!!

I am a computer scientist though, does that count in the whole science thing? I dont wear a white coat though  ;)
My sisters bf is a forensic scientist and we always make fun of him (in the nicest possible way!) He emailed my sister he was cold and she told him to put another white coat on, we always ask if he watches brainiac etc.. lol
