Title: Young tabby cat TINA needs a home......With Moira and now has a home
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 01, 2009, 19:50:49 PM
Tina Tuna is a very young Tabby cat who has been found as a stray just below the mountains in SW Wales. She is very friendly and was found a week ago by my art tutor.

The little cat has two lengths of coat and a light face and under fur and big ears which makes me think she is quite young, she is dog friendly as long as the dog leaves her alone.

She was very thin and this area has few houses.

I am hoping to get a picture of her on Wed , car allowing  and although Sue has fallen in love with her she has an elderly lab and she is out a lot of the time , also going away so cant keep her.

She is very clean, no sign of fleas and eyes are clear and so cute and friendly but is having to be left outside during the day.

I am going to lend her my snug hut on Wed and then she can stay in the garage during the day but there will be no heating.

Sue is going to contact CP Swansea tomorrow to see if they have a place, its unlikely though. I have also advised her to take the cat to a vet and see if she has a chip.

She needs a home asap cos of Sues work commitments and as long as my car comes back fit and well tomorrow I am available to bring her to Bristol or somewhere in Wales.

Hope to get a picture on Wed too.

she was first seen at side of road and then must have followed Sue into her caravan and when Sue turned round she was there.

She is named Tina Tuna cos that was all Sue had that a cat could eat  ;D

She was starving and very thin but is very affectionate and all she wants are cuddles, food and a nice warm house with a human to love her.

Was found in Brynamman at the bottom of the Black Mountains on the South West end. Understands English

I know this may sound silly but has anyone advertised her as found?  ;)

Bless your tutor for looking after her in the meantime, she sounds lovely and obviously has had a home!  :Luv2:

Yes my tutor has been asking around locally but as said there are not many houses and she knows everyone, its just the hills really.

I think she has either hitched a lift or been dumped and doesnt come from around there.

its at the bottom of a the road across the mountains where I got stuck in the snow last year so very easy to dump a cat.

Title: Re: Very young tabby cat needs a home now URGENT
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on November 03, 2009, 12:10:04 PM
This one has now become urgent as we can not find any local rescue to take her although CAT will advertize her on CC if I can get a picture.

I have just spoke to Sue and the little cat is now going to be left outside because she rushes into the house and hides and Sue cant keep her in the house and have to guess that as she has spoken to RSPCA she is doing what they have told her, cos she said to me that she hopes if she is left outside she will just go away.

CAT have offered to have her neutered, fleed and wormed for a min donation of £10 but they like all other rescues ar jammed packed and cant take her in.

The weather at the bottom of the mountains is very bleak indeed and the cat will stand little chance of survival.....I dont know if its going to be fed!

This is breaking my heart cos there is nothing I can do to help except offer transport.

I dont think I am going to get a picture either cos she started to mutter about her camera so that will mean she cant be shown through the sites to give her a chance of a home.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know  :(

Sorry no idea at all and all I know is that she loves people and not scared of a huge labrador which she told to stop staring at her......this is when she was allowed inside!

She has obviously had a home and sounds like she has met a dog before and this is making me so angry and am wondering whether its best for her to take a risk if I could get her into Brdgend , where she would be pts if found to be carrying anything.....cos this rate she is going to die anyway  :(

This so sounds like the RSPCA and I was told that RSPCA had been contacted

Oh heck! I do hope someone can assist!  :(

Chances are if she is dog friendly at such a young age cats wont bother her, her main goal seem's to be the want of food and a lovely forever home...

Yes agree she just wants food, shelter and warmth and also a human company and has obviously had it in the past.

I am just so angry and not sure if I can go to these art classes anymore

Can you put her in a spare room Gill?
Title: Re: Very young tabby cat needs a home now URGENT

do you understand why Sue won't at least carry on feeding this poor cat, and letting her sleep in the Snugs kennel in her garage, if only  until the CAT offer of spaying, defleaing and deworming can be taken up?

then there will be no unwanted kittens at least

and if she has really taken to this cat, why is she so reluctant to keep her? - I would have thought an elderly labrador and a young friendly cat was quite a good recipe for success

Its because in her mind she doesnt want a cat right now and knows nothing about them. Her Lab is dying and she lost another last year and she told me she is going to try and live without an animal once the lab goes to the Bridge cos she wants to be able to go away working without the responsibilty of an animal until she is semi retired and then she may think about a cat.

I dont think she will get on without an animal but she can only try.

I dont understand why she wont let the cat stay in garage but she is ringing me tonight so can get more details and suspect that some of this is down to the cat breaking her heart and she just wants it to go quickly and her respnse to day was so different to Sunday and its so RSPCA.

She says that everytime she opens a door the cat bolts for the house to get in and then hides.......all of this is so cruel I think.

I need to get it away from there before something bad happens.

I have emailed Bridend CP its one of the rehoming centres that CP run but know someoone who took a stray in there over a year ago and thats how I know its got a kill policy, luckily Vodka tested safe and eventually was rehomed but it took aver a year cos Wales really doesnt do cats very much.

I really dont want to see a house cat end up in a cage and a fosterer would be so much better but maybe beggars cant be choosers. Moira has pmed me but suspect it wont work cos dependent on health of the cat and she sounds very helathy.

So right now back to square one and need to find this little one somewhere to go to be loved.

To be honest Baz if she will not give the cat shelter and food then I cant stay in a class with her but we will see and tomorrow I am taking a cat picture in to do, so thats gonna rub salt in the wound if she does not care for the cat for a while!

I am in no way making any promises but I would be interested to know more.

I'm wary as my boy has stress induced cystitis. He might be able to cope with a little non threatening kitten but I'm not sure he would cope with anything older
edit: the more I think about the more I think the vet will say it's the last thing Arty needs at the moment. I wish I had a bigger place (I'm in a one bedroom flat) so that she could have her own room, then I would say yes.
I'm in Bristol so I will ask around :)

Gill mentioned the possibility of Tina being pts if found positive for FIV (or other things) by a large rescue. If she proved to be FIV+ (although Gill doubts this to be the case) I offered to short term foster as I have FIV+ cats. However, if no better offer comes up and there is a real risk of pts then perhaps better to take her chances with my FIVs. In this case I can short term foster if we can find a sponsor. Sorry, I just can't afford to finance any more. Hopefully a better solution can be found nearer to home but my offer stands as a back up.

We're in Sussex which is such a long way from you.  I'd offer my 'mum & kitten' spare room that I have that is currently vacant, but you're too far away..... :(

Surely there MUST be somebody who could offer a spare room, shed, garage or something that this poor little thing could stay in whilst a more permanent home is sought?

At a guess and I havent seen her but would think about 6 months maybe  and under a year.

Bristol area would be great cos can get to the channel in 1 1/2 hrs, so if you could ask around I would be greatful.

Please cross post on Cat Chat Moira  :thanks:

If I can get a picture then I will put it up and also it will go on Cat Action Trust pages too, the localish one has said for a £10 donation thery will pay for neuter or to check and de fleaing , although I am told she is clear of fleas.

Afraid Sussex is too far for me to go unless there was someone who could meet me part way.

Moira if there is no other way and we can find a sponsor then it would be better for her to mix with yours rather than to be PTS or left out in the cold but lets try all other options first.

I need to speak to Sue tonight, she is going to ring me about 1930 and hope she does.

Thanks Moira

A slight plan is coming together and maybe have a home/rescue for her but she must be tested for FIV and fully vaccinated before she can move.

The probs are the money to do this and second whether Sue will keep her and feed her for 6 weeks to allow full vacination. If she is FIV free she has somewhere to go safely and if not maybe Moiras although that would need a sponsor to stay there.

Whats the sponsorship cover Moira and how much would someone be letting themselves in for approx. And how would Tina then get a home.

CAT would pay for her to be neutered and checked for neutering and obviously testing and first vacs would need to be done too.

Am still open to offers of a home for her so everything can be done from new home so the little lady doesnt have to go through all this stress

I misunderstood one of my messages and now have  home/rescue place as long as she tests negative for FIV  and also a sponsor to pay for test and vaccinations, so now its a question of whether Sue will keep her to just before Christmas and keep her warm!

If she tests positive then Moira is her hope but sponsorship for that will need to be sorted.

If I was closer my cat run is empty this time of year and is totally insulated.  I will contribute towards sponsorship for Moira if that is where she goes.

I cant help wondering Gill whether Sue can be trusted after reading about her attitude towards this little lady, Im sorry but someone who can close their door to a little one in need in this weather is not a true animal lover.

Where are you Sheyl?

This has become an emergency now because the little cat is bring put out at night and is out all day, gets a couple of hours in the house but thats it. Every time she opens the door it flies in and is apparently in the house right now surled up in a duvet and uts very thin, so cant cope with the low temps up there.

She is goind away in under two weeks and then its just going to be left.......I can tell when I speak to her its breaking her heart but she nursed her husband when he had cancer and then the two labs, one gone now and the other on its way and she cant cope. She is struggling with the sick lab and she works very long hours and her daughter wont even look after the lab when she goes away.

I need to get this cat into safety very fast before it dies of cold.

I am going to loan her my snug tomorrow and she says she has blankets to put in but its still not going to stay very warm cos of the strong winds and the torential rain that we are having.

This is now really desperate cos the cat is spending most time outside and then waits for her to come home and rushes into the house for warmth, suspect not enough body fat to keep warm.

I cant pursuade her to keep looking after her for 4-5 weeks and have a feeling the cat will be out by the weekend cos she is scared of becoming too attached and knows she cant cope.

She has a student tomorrow who feeds ferals and is going to ask her if she could take it but doesnt understand how different this little one is to a feral, she just wont survive.

I don't think the woman who found her has taken her to a vet, Sheryl, as the CAT rescue would not be offering to pay for worming and defleaing, I assume, as that would have been done had she been to a vet

I don't think her sex is certain either - could be a neutered tom

No I couldnt get Sue to do this but she is pretty certain she was dumped cos of where she was found....its an ideal place if you want to dump a cat....it will just die cos there is nobody there  >:(

I so appreciate everyones help here and am witing for confirmation from the sponsor for test and vacs and if this comes in she will be off to Moira until tests and vacs are complete. She will be isolated from the FIV cats too.

She will then have a home or a rescue place in London.

Please dont take your eyes of this thraed incase something goes wrong cos I think transport is sorted too.

It was all sorted butnow there is a major problem  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Tina was left outside last night and this morning she is hurt and in a lot oof pain. Seems its a leg or a hip I am so hoping its not serious . she can walk but is limping.

I am collecting her at 1415 but an waiting a call from my vet cos he is booked until 1800 and then I would need her to stay there tonight, so am waiting a call back.

If its a break or something serious I dont jknow what happens next cos once I have got her tonight she cannot go back to Sues EVER.

If she will be OK to travel tomorrow then we will go ahead but depending on what is wrong with her we may need more sponsorship to pay the vet bills.

I am so very very angry , words fail me as Sue has a bloomin conservatory and surely Tina could have been kept in there in safety.

I have told Moira and all we can do now is wait for the outcome with the vets  :( :(

Tina has a vet appointment at 1645 with a good vet and am hoping they will let her stay overnight cos they have 24/7 cover and its the vet who was treating Franta and is a partner and is good.

Please everyone keep your fingers crossed for this little girl cos she does not deserve to be like this.

She may have just pulled a muscle or something.  Don't panic over anything until you have seen the vets.  Fingers crossed it is nothing major for her.

I keep checking for news of this little one - I have got everything crossed that the news is good - poor little mite must be wondering what she ever did wrong to be treated this way.  What really broke my heart was when Gill said she kept rushing into the house - FFS she couldnt have asked any clearer for some love and compassion and all she got was the door shut on her.

Thats exactly what i think too - absolutely disgusting behaviour - maybe one day some one will do the same to them - how  you can turn your back on a poor cat/kitten like that i have no idea  :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:
The one in my cat house isn''t going home now - apparantly they now also have a boisturous dog that some of the cats don''t like.
I have sorted out a vet visit for him tomorrow and it looks like he is going to be an extra addition here now !  I couldn''t just ignore him !!!!

Hi all

I am just back from transferring Tina to Moira  ;D

WE made a hurried Plan B at lunchtime , which was to immediately transport her if I thoughtv she was fit to travel.

She has a small chunk out of her tail right near her bittom on the right side and a chunk of fur missing......she had eiither caught it on something or was bittne. It was raw but not bleeding and not infected and Moira is going to take her to the vets tomorrow.

She is an absolute little darling and was an angel in the car. She is about 6/7 months old at a guess and so friendly and she came rushing to Sue as she drove in and then to me and straight into the house to curl up in the consevatory.

Sue said that she was a lot worse this morning and her eyes were not good but I think that was from the cold over night and the shock of what everr had happened to her.

She is very thin and very hungry and had a bit of chicken from a sandwich in the car and also some TechniCal biscuits.

I would have loved to have had her myself cos have never had such a loving cat since Kocka went to the Bridge........I would be totally useless in rescue LOL

I have taken some picture s of her and will put them on here later.

Despite everything I have said about Sue, I know she cared a lot about this little cat in her way but thats not our way and she doesnt know much about cats. She told ne she was going to keep Tina in the garage tonight if I was collecting her tomorrow but we have done better than that and she should be in her first warm all night house for the fisrt time for ages.

I am sure I havent personnally thanked everyone who offered help but will try to catch up tomorrow.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who offered any kind of help and how much it was appreciated. Purrs peeps are amazing and certainly Tinas little life has been saved, cos I dont think she would have lasted too much longer, especially with the tail injury that probably would have become infected.

Stacey I havent forgotten about your cat and although as you will see ** they are two of a kind, this little one was much too young to have been your Tigger, I am so sorry it couldnt have been your cat

** pictures coming later

We arrived home safe and sound half an hour ago. I have just got my lot sorted for the night and am about to give Tina her supper (chicken breast). As Gill says, she is adorable. Very sweet nature. Lots of purrs. She will stay in my front room on her own tonight as it is too late to make introductions. She hasn't come out of the carrier yet although she did come out and sit on my lap in the car when I stopped for a break (I couldn't resist giving her a cuddle :) ) She was quite happy to go back in the carrier and slept all the way home.

She is painfully thin but will be stunning when she has a bit more meat on her bones.

I will try to post some pics tomorrow or Friday.

Many thanks to Gill and everyone who has offered help. We can't save them all, unfortunately, but this is one little one who wont be spending tonight alone, cold and hungry.

Have just made appointment with my vet for 6:10pm tonight. She will have general check up and specifically I will get him to look at her injury. I will also have her first vaccination done and also blood test for FIV/FeL (I will ask for Glasgow test). Will also ask them to scan for microchip. I think thats probably enough for her to deal with in one go, poor thing :)

She doesn't want to leave her carrier at the moment so I have left it in the front room. However, when I reached in to stroke her this morning she started purring and came out and ate some breakfast, but then went back in. I guess it is her sanctuary. She was very quiet but I think she is probably exhausted after the long journey. I thought I detected a slight limp to her hind leg but it might just have been that she was stiff after being in the carrier.

I was a bit puzzled/worried that she had not pood or peed either in the litter tray or elsewhere in the room. Also, there were no accidents on the journey up. She did have a little to drink yesterday and has also eatten a bit.

I'll post this evening after the vet.

Fingers crossed all will be ok at the vets, Moira.
My Ollie was bitten by a rat a couple of weeks ago and had to be kept in for 24 hrs-he NEVER uses his litter tray, and didn't do anything at all for nearly 48 hrs, from the original bite to when i let him out. I think he's just so used to doing his 'business' outside-maybe that's the same for Tina?

i hope everything goes ok at the vets moira and this must be such a change for her from roaming outside,

yes she was limping slightly when i picked her up and sue said much more yesterday morning,

i wonder if she has a bite some where near the tail that is hard to see. i know sasa was bitten at the back top of one of her legs and could hardly walk and vet couldnt see it until he sedated her cos she is semi feral.

maybe the tail wound is from a fight?

i am sure the carrier has became her warm safe home because she made no effort to leave mine when the door was open, just woofed the biscuits and stretched out like in heaven  ;D

last night the weather here was terrible here so she is indoors not a moment too soon.

UPDATE ON TINA

Have just been speaking to Moira who has been to the vets with Tina and she is badly bitten all over her backside, numerous bits plus the one on her tail. She is in a lot of pain and the vet could not fully examine her even and Tina was lashing out and trying to bite, just to ptrotect herself.  :(

She has been given an antibiotic jab and will go back to see the vet next week.

She is now out of her carrier and has been on Moiras lap and sitting on the window sill watchinng the world go by and is back to her happy friendly little purry self again.

She is in isolation at present.

The vet thinks she is 1-2 years old! I think thats she is hard pushed to be one but agree that she has very long legs and body but she has a very tiny head....this may mean she is neutered of course. She has no chip.

Being where Sue lives have to think that she has been attacked maybe by a fox or other wild animal cos these are not the usual injuries to get from a cat. Some of these bites are older, and some are newer so she has been attacked more than once over a period of time  :(

The good news is that she is settling down at Moiras and is just a wonderful little lapcat.

Vacinations and Fiv test will not happen until the bites have cleared up and any infection has gone.

Moira is hoping to put some pictures on tomorrow once her sons camera has charged.

So I wish Tina lots of good wishes and hope the pain goes away quick and she starts to put on some weight.

I didnt think of that and she would have been lying out side asleep probably.....how terrible and every one is on her tail end and the one on her tail is a great big chunck out but her tail is Ok and she can feel it the vet says.

Makes my heart ache to think what she has been through outside on her own and still she stayed friendly and loveable.

Now we know that Tina Tuna is older, could there be any possibility of her being Stacey's babe? I know cats can look much older or younger than their age....Was Stacey's cat chipped, then again a chip could go astray also!  :sneaky:

Just a thought?

No she is not Staceys, her head is very very small.....I think she is younger than the vet thinks but we will have to wwait and see how she feeds up over next few weeks.

No chip astray, she is not chipped.

She loves everyone cept the vet but thats only cos she was in pain, she came right up to me the first time she saw me and Sue said I had a way with animals cos of how her dog reacted to me.

I know CP thought the same but then I still cant touch Sasa after nearly 4 years so I cant be that good LOL

Sorry to hear Tina had a few bites on her, but she is now somewhere to recover and be loved. When my Ollie had his rat bite on the Sat evening, by 6am on the Sunday, he couldn't even lift his head up, which was why the vet was so convinced it was a rat cos he was so poorly so quickly. He had 3 injections at the emergency vets and another two the next evening. He spent all day Sunday and Monday asleep under the table.  Thankfully Tina's not like that, so maybe it was a fox?
Glad to hear she's on the mend!

Sadly my little tigger was not micro chipped.. have looked at the pictures it is really hard to tell as they are not proper front pics... hoepfully if we can get some mroe pics i maybe to say 100% ....It hard to tell due to tigger being missing a few months... tiggers little sister is not that big so thats what makes me wonder.. and tigger would easily jump in a car so thats how i think she got lost :*(.... either way if its not my little tiggy I wish this little girl the best of luck xx

Tina had good night snuggled into blanket on my sofa and was quite perky this morning. Didn't seem to be limping and managed to jump off windowsill without any problem (that's where she was when I came down this morning). Ate 2 bowls of chicken breast last night. Dreadful time at the vets. She was screaming and biting and I hated having to hold her down when she was hurting. Will take her back to vets next Saturday for vaccinations and blood tests.

poor Moira - bet you're not looking forward to Saturday then   - it's not a man thing, is it? Tosker tolerates women in the house, but he ran out of the house and enclosure when a man called to read the water meter

I take it Tina has now used the tray, and there are no concerns there

is it the camera, or does she have some tortie in her coat?

In the pictures she looks a lot bigger than she is,

I am convinced now that shew is not your car Stacey cos the markings on the top of the head are dirrent as you can see in Moiras pictures and your trigger has I think got a mackrel tabby coat which Tina does not have,

I also talked to Sue this morning for a long time going through a description of her and the tail also is different. Sue being an artist is very observant and remembers what Tina looks like after having her around nearly two weeks.

Sue says there are no foxes or badgers around where she lives but there are loads of rats and the morning before I collected Tina , Sue had said that Tina was very poorly and could hardly open her eyes and was limping very badly but by 1400 she had improved and suspect that was just a temporary respite but without the abs yesterday she would have then gone downhill fast.

I did have vet appointment for her on Wed evening but as her eyes were good and she was only slightly limpoing, although I knew about the chunk out of her tail, I considered it better for her to travel immediately to Moira for safety and now think this was the right decision.

For Moira, Sue told me this morning that at the weekend when she was in the house much longer, she wanted to go outside after about 3 hours and its only writing this I am now thinking , well of course cos she probably needed to use a litter tray........doh! Sue thought it was because she liked to be outside and of course this may be the case too.

I hope the abs kick in really quick and she settles more and more to being in a warm house where she is not attacked.

She hadn't peed or pood in the litter tray this morning but I left the house at 8:30. She did poo and pee in the carrier last night on the way to vets. The poo was a little on the normal/hard (constipated) side but I will keep an eye on things there. The picture quality isn't too great (my mobile phone camera is better once I get it fixed) but you are right, she does have tortie colouring as well as tabby markings. It makes her quite unusual and, I think, very pretty.

Older cats often get mistaken for kittens when underweight, vet would be able to tell if she is that young by teeth

She does look like an old cat in that second pic of her curled up on the blanket, bless her, she looks lovely and cosy  :Luv2:

You are right Gillian she does but maybe thats the effect of the abs and the infection she has, cos she doesnt look like that in my pics 24 hrs earlier or when i was watching her at Sues.

i reckon she is very tired and also destressing.

The pics are a bit deceptive, she doesn't look old in real life. I weighed her tonight and she is only 2.7 kg (less than Truman). Her head is tiny compared with her body and leg length. I still feel she could be nearer 11- 12 months rather than older. Tonight she ate 60 grams of chicken, some biscuits and half a small bottle of kitten milk. She still wasn't interested in wet food. However, she does like lasangna as I caught her licking my plate, naughty girl :) When I got home she was curled up in an igloo I had bought for Rosie and Sophie which they wouldn't look at but this evening she spent on the sofa beside me. She just loves attention and especially tummy rubs. Apart from still not pooing or peeing and being quiet she doesn't seem too bad. I think she just needs rest and plenty of good food. As she isn't eating wet food I tried her on the kitten milk, which she seems to like, to make sure she is getting some fluid. She does drink water because she took some from me in the car but I haven't seen her drinking it here yet.

Isnt that strange about the wet food..........I know she just had dry plus water with Sue. Sue didnt try wet food. Lasagne  cat

I agree about her age and the size of her head, its minute in real life.

She is such a friendly cat which is amazing after all she has been through but humans are her cup of cocoa  ;D

I have to send pictures to Sue now LOL, She told me this morning that her dog is missing Tina and going around looking for her.........sigh

Tina's leg was very stiff this morning after being curled up in the igloo all night. However, she loosened up as the day went on. Happy to report there was a poo in the litter tray this morning and evidence of pee (It doesn't take much to make us happy, does it:) ) It was very sunny here today and she spent most of the afternoon on the windowsill. She isn't asking for food but takes it when offered. She has eatten a good amount of chicken and also some fresh tuna today. I bought a new mobile phone/camera today as unfortunately I had a year left on my contract with 3 and couldn't get a free replacement. Once I have figured out how to take pics on it I will take some more of Tina and post. I discovered Tina is quite a vocal cat. When I came back this afternoon she yowled at me for about 5 minutes. I'm not sure if that was a welcome back or a telling off for leaving her:). At the moment she is curled up on the sofa watching Strickly.

It will be very difficult to let her go. I know I can't do it at least until she is 100% healthy.

Thanks, everyone for the good wishes for Tina.

Tina is ultra friendly. She cuddles on my lap and purrs a lot. Despite the pain she is in she has shown no sign of aggression. When she sits she cries a little as it obviously hurts her. Her wound is quite bad and deep and is still bleeding. I think it will be a few weeks before it heals. She still can't tolerate me touching her hind quarters and I have to just drip the saline solution onto the wound to wash it. On the good side, she coninues to eat well and is spending more time on the windowsill or sofa rather than hiding away in the igloo.

You are right, it will be very difficult for me to rehome her, I've never given up a cat before that has come into my care. I'm sure people will understand why I wont let her go until she is 100% better (however long that takes) reached her normal weight and has been checked for FIV/FeL. In Leicester CP do free neutering so I will have that done also before she goes (assuming she hasn't been speyed already. I guess she will come into heat over the next few weeks if she hasn't). I will pay myself to have her microchipped also (the new slaves can easily change the details).

Tina is doing very well. Her limp has gone and her wound, though still looking nasty, has started to heal, at least its stopped bleeding. She was much perkier yesterday. She hasn't gone back into the igloo which is a good sign, I think, as she is clearly relaxed enough to sit on the sofa or windowsill. She is eatting very well and pooing/peeling normally. I have made an appointment with the vet for this Saturday at 11:00 to check up on the wound and, hopefully, get the first vaccination done and the blood tests. I will have her microchipped and the second vaccination in three weeks time.

It appears she also likes macaroni cheese and is not shy about helping herself off my plate, cheeky girl :)

Tina went to the vets today and she is a lot better than last week and her tail is healing nicely. The vet said that because its a big would that is good cos the infection has not got locked in causing an abcess. It is exoected that the scab will start to come off next week sometime.

She has flaky skin down to poor nutrution but she is gobbling food at a rate of knots right now so nothing to worry about.

In the picture she looks so much better already than she did  ;D

She has had blood taken for FIV/FeLV tests and ger first jab, including FeLV and test results will be back in 1-2 weeks.
The other part of the jab will be in 3 weeks.

It cannot be told whether she is spayed and I have asked you all a question  about this .

So I think in 11/2 weeks all is going very well and Mpira has also told me that she has met a couple of other cats briefly and apart from a hiss and a growl Tina has stayed in her place on the sofa  ;D  Nothings changed then cos she did that at Sues with the dog,

She also has been batting around a pebble that came in accidently and is asking to explore, so she is starting to befave like a youing cat should.

Her age has been reassessed at under a year old by the vet that saw her today.

I am sooo pleased how she is doing  ;D

Post by: moira on December 01, 2009, 23:13:02 PM
I haven't heard back yet about the test results although they did say it would be a few weeks. I guess any time now. She gets her second vaccination this Saturday so I will chase them up then. Can't remember if I mentioned earlier on here (my heads a shed at the moment thinking about poor Willow and Oliver) that I am 99% sure she was on heat last weekend. At least she was showing all the signs you guys told me about. So I will be approaching some of the local rescues here in Leicester to see if they will give me a voucher to have her speyed. I know a couple here that are very hot on the neutering. I will discuss with the vet on Saturday and book her in (unless said rescues require me to see another specific vet in which case I will see about that next week).

She is becoming very playful and alert although she is not the greatest eater I have had. She is very fussy and, apart from the chicken breast, will only eat pouches and the best biscuits and isn't particularly interested in food at all unlike my male cats who all stuff themselves at every opportunity. I think she will remain a lean cat although I am trying hard to fatten her up. She really is a little spitfire. So far, as well as the kittens,  she has met 6 of my other cats, all males topping the 5.5-6.00 kg mark. Its funny to watch these big chaps cowering away from her, the size of tuppence :) Its funny how they don't react to her nonsence at all but just back off and ignore her.

Yes, I will have to see how she gets on with the motley crew upstairs. As well as ST & Mac there are the two scallywags, Rosie and Sophie, and Max, who is pals with Rosie and Sophie and plays with them thinking he's a kitten too.

Post by: moira on December 05, 2009, 12:18:06 PM
Just got back from the vet's. Tina has had her second vaccinaton. I had her weighed and she is only 2.81kg. The vet agreed that this is underweight but not, she said, emaciated. She said that given her bone structure Tina needs to put on a kilo. I am to take her back in a month to check the weight again and, hopefully, if she is putting it on sufficiently we can go ahead and have her speyed. Generally, though, she said Tina was in good shape. This was a different vet and she agreed with the first one that Tina was between 1-2 years old, older than we thought. She said this was because she has her adult teeth and although they are clean there is slight tartar on the back ones. The blood resultsw are not back yet and the vet is going to chase this up with Glasgow on Monday.

If she needs to put on a kilo, she will look very different but wonder why she is not putting on weight cos she is being fed well and is eating.

Naughty Glasgow cos those results should be back now.

I can't say for certain that she hasn't put on any weight because when I weighed her before it was with my own scales, me carrying her then me on my own calculating the difference - and no I'm not telling you what those weights were :) So, it wouldn't have been as accurate as at the vets. When I take her back in a month to be weighed again we will have a better picture of how things are. Despite being thin she does seem perfectly healthy otherwise. Most of my cats are male and very food oriented and somewhat chunky but the vet did say females are often more picky with food.

I'll give the cat milk a try. I asked about diet and the vet said just go give her more of what she is getting and not to give her a high protein diet as this could cause diohrea (cant spell, you know what I mean) Touch wood, she hasn't refused the chicken breast yet.

How often has she been wormed since you have had her now Moira? I know when I first got my Gigga and Oscar they had (oh god forgot the name now...Worms that look like spaghetti!  ) I had to worm them for 3 consecutive months to get rid!

They were my two failed foster's btw.....Still here with me now!  :shy:

Gigga had a big tum so was obvious but you would not of know Oscar had them as he was thin!  ;)

Tina was wormed and frontlined just after I got her, three weeks ago, so she will be due again in about a week. The vet I saw today gave her a good going over and didn't suggest worms and there has been no sign of worms in her poo or coming out of her bum (YUCH!) I've had that before with strays I've taken in. As Gill will tell you, she was very very thin when she was rescued. I think she probably has put on a little weight but just has a ways to go. I cant really tell, seeing her every day and the weighing I did at home would not have been as accurate as the one taken today at the vets.  I thought myself that she has probably had kittens in the past but I forgot to ask the vet if she could tell.

Trigger has always been around 8lbs despite being long bodied and long limbed

every time the vet sees him she asks if he has always been so slim, but it has never been a cause for concern

he just doesn't eat more than he thinks he needs, and that is that - all I can do is make sure what he does eat is of good quality

perhaps Tina too will always be thin

Tina is doing very well although continues to show no real interest in food. However, she does eat when she feels like it as I catch her nibbling biscuits on occasion or the carcass of the turkey and even the washed out dregs of biscuits and cat food that have got caught in the sink drain, even though I have just put out fresh food for her, Yuch! :) The supper of chicken breast is the only thing she finishes, mostly she eats a tablespoon of catfood or a few sips of cat milk then looses interest. She is very active and affectionate, though, and is very comfortable with the other cats - too comfortable with Sammy and Maurice who she flirts with outrageously and who take it in turns to sleep with her on top of the china cabinet (Its OK, they are definitely neutered :) ). She tends to dart around the place rather than slink like the other cats and always seems very inquisitive and bright eyed. Rosie kitten goes in to be speyed tomorrow so I will take Tina in to be weighed again. If the vet thinks it is OK I'll book her in to be speyed and chipped.

How strange she doesnt really eat...wonder if she wasnt fed well where ever she came from or the hard time outside has just shrunk her little tummy . She is going for scraps so is scavanging like she would outside if a stray  or not fed.

Maybe the vet will have some idea why.

Pleased she is getting on with the other cats and need some pictures of them all together  ;D

She does seem to be exhibiting scavanging behaviour although, as Tigger says, other cats do the same. Cats that I have taken in starving usually eat as if there is no tomorrow, because they are never sure when their next feed will be. She acts as if, 'hey ho. OK, have a nibble, cant be bothered, it'll always be there later'. Of course she may be eating when I'm not there, its difficult to tell with a multicat household. she may be having secret midnight feasts. Apart from the chicken she does seem to prefer biscuits and I always leave them out. Its funny, though,  because old Truman can down a pouch of whiskers in 5 seconds flat :)

I'll take some pics with Tina and her two boyfriends (shameless Hussy)

I've been having the same problem with Penny my foster although she's done better today.  She would rush excitedly to the bowl when I put food down but then lick a bit and walk away.  If I went back to the bowl she would come and lick a bit more but feeding time was taking ages that away and she wasn't really getting much.  However, when I let her into the kitchen she picked up any little bits of stuff that were on the floor (of which there were many  :-[) and then sat licking the tiles for ages and kept coming back for another lick  :-:.  I noticed that what bits she did eat she took out of the bowl and put on the floor before eating so today I've given her a plate instead of a bowl and she's eaten more but it may just be thats she's settling down now (she's only been here 3 days).

She may have come from a home that just left dry down, so wet may not grab her that much as goes against all she knows. As you say some cats have no issues getting over a different diet but some are creatures of habit!
Dexter was very hungry when he first let me feed him but he wouldnt eat wet, after a few months he decided it was worth bothering with, he was living rough so you would think any food would do  :innocent:

She was weighed but was only 2.6 kg, less than before, which really surprised me/worried me, perhaps because she had an empty stomach. I queried this with the vet but she said Tina was healthy and just a very small cat. She has certainly never shown any other signs of being poorly and is very bright and active. Over the weekend she was back to her normal feisty self and is eating normally (for her). I'll post some pics soon.

Here are some pics of Tina taken this weekend. Her favourite place is on top of the microwave/oven, especially when it is still warm. As you can see she really is a scavenger - that's her helping herself to the remains of my mashed potato.

Moira has decided to keep Tina the terror  ;D

She has been nicking the stuffing out of Moiras sandwiches so when she went for lunch at work all that was left was bread

I am so pleased that she has a forever home and lots of boys to keep in order  ;D
