Title: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 17, 2009, 09:51:43 AM
A few pictures of the "newbie" to the group Darwin. The girls are slowly but surely accepting the little guy, a lot less hissing and even some "I like what I smell" faces when he's sniffed by the younger two. Mog is the grumpiest about it, but I think it's because he hasn't learnt not to try and play with her quite yet.

that's good news, JS

I'm sure Mog isn't half as put out as she pretends - but us old girls do enjoy a good moan, especially about the antics of the younger generation ;)

He's a funny little fella. He's currently trashing the voile curtain in the front room - one of his favourite games is playing "run up and down the windowsill" with Cat Across the Road on the outside ledge and him on the inside.

He and Astryd had a wrestle earlier which was funny to watch, and even Sage :-: did a bit of  :boxer: with him earlier when he tried to impinge on 'her' play tunnel. :Luv:

Mog on the other hand is still claiming she doesn't like him much......

Lol! @ Mog! She just has to be the different one dos'nt she!  :evillaugh: :Luv2:

How long have you had Darwin now JS? Can you imagine what your house is gonna be like in a couple of weeks time?

Let the fun begin......

I notice when a kitten comes into the home the older cats start to act like kittens too  :evillaugh: when they get over their fear of "what on this earth is that"  :innocent:

He's been here a week and a day, BM. He's currently sat on my knee watching the mouse on the screen. All the girls are relaxing in or on various beds upstairs. ;)

Thanks. The Little Man is hopefully going to the vets Monday as his eyes are a little runny and I want to make sure it's nothing serious. (ie: conjunctivitis - eye drops for four cats.....that would be fun!)

My partner has just commented that overall he's a pretty mellow kitten, but he does play with Astryd and they both seem to enjoy it.

Post by: JackSpratt on October 18, 2009, 11:42:01 AM
I think Darwin just wants to play with everyone.....he's currently looking outside for Cat Across the Road to run up and down the windowsill. He's been playing with Astryd and Sage (a little.....) for about three quarters of an hour beforehand.

Carrie got really cross at him earlier and gave him an old woman swipe when he tried to get her to join in the frivolities. Bloomin' youngsters, trying to make her have fun..... :tired:

Has to be a credit to Shelly for making him so confident!  :Luv2:
Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 18, 2009, 16:39:27 PM
Definitely. Although, I think most kittens are naturally confident unless they're given reason not to be, if that makes sense.

Well, this is news to me, I wonder what else I've missed on Purrs now...

I just want to pick him up and cuddle him! :Luv2:
(Don' they look just sooo innocent when they're that small).

:congrats: on the new addition to your family.
Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 19, 2009, 10:25:01 AM
Jasmine, I was pretty furtive about it until I knew my other cats wouldn't freak out about him. It would've really upset me to post and then find out they wouldn't accept him. Thankfully, the only one we're having issue with as I said is Mog - but she takes exception to everything these days. She even growls at me now. :(

:happy dance: Great news that (most of!) the gang have accepted him now.  He looks so cute, but we probably need some more pics of that lovely crinkly ear ;D
Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 21, 2009, 11:09:58 AM
Quick update. Darwin, Astryd and Sage are currently all chilling out in the smallest room in the house (aside from the kitchen that has nowhere they could relax!) together. Sage is asleep on the back of the futon, Darwin is in the radiator bed (which Sage is usually in....big honour) and Astryd is asleep in the wicker basket next to the radiator.

Mog remains steadfast to her grumpiness and is asleep in here on another futon....

Will try and add more photos of "the ear" soon. ;)

:) Thanks Dawn. My partner informed me (for the billionth time) I worry too much when I was stressing about them not getting on. ;)
Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: Sabrina (Auferstehen) on October 21, 2009, 11:32:18 AM
Glad most of them are getting along fine, Mog will come to terms with Darwin. It just takes time.

Like I said before, Lirael hated me for weeks after adopting Smoke but eventually got over it and came back to mommy.

Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 21, 2009, 11:53:38 AM
They've got over hating me. ;) And they never did hate my partner..... who is currently training Astryd daily using the treats and clicking method. (None of the others really seem that interested, but she loves it.)
Title: Re: Darwin settling in

Astryd being torti has worked out how to train a human to click a piece of plastic and give her a treat, well done astryd  :wow:

Further update - snook upstairs to see where Little Man was and found both he and Mog were asleep on the bed. This is indeed progress and I think he's figuring out not ambushing her all the time might be a good idea.

Things are a little odd actually. Sage, who is usually quite a nervous girl is actually acting fairly confident with the other cats. She and Astryd were curled up asleep literally about three inches away from each other last night. I took a picture of it, actually because I was so shocked!

Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 25, 2009, 09:07:02 AM
Ok - update just over two weeks in:

My partner and I were looking for Darwin and Astryd and after checking small hiding places we looked under the bed. Earlier in the evening I'd swapped a fairly large bed for two smaller donut ones. We peered underneath and in one of the beds was Mog.....next to a donut bed containing a sleeping Astryd and a little sidekick. :Luv: Darwin has been trying to snuggle with one of the girls when he gets tired since he got here.

(Sage was in her room asleep in the radiator bed that Darwin had claimed earlier. ;))

OK....you aren't going to believe this. But Mog and Darwin are both sat on the heated pet bed behind me.  I'd take a photo but I'm terrified of moving in case Mog gets riled!

EDIT: Oh, Mog got hungry and moved. Darwin followed her but that was just a tad too much for Mog who growled at him to leave her alone!

He's a little corker. :) And yes BM, overall the cats are pretty chilled....Sage is a little nervous, but other than that they have pretty good temperaments to deal with other cats.

They are all stunning - my cousin commented on that too the last time she visited.  :Luv:

Title: Re: Darwin settling in
Post by: JackSpratt on October 28, 2009, 10:56:44 AM
She's a funny one. She is still a little hissy with Darwin if he tries to get her to play but if he leaves her alone she doesn't really care that he's there. Same with Mog in all honesty.

Astryd quite likes the mad runarounds (on her terms, naturally) and I think when he gets a bit older and settles a tad, things will be quite good for all of them.

He's a wonderful little man, very affectionate and full of beans. He bounces around like Tigger when he's awake (that's seriously the closest description I can think of) and Astryd cleans him pretty much every day.

Sage and Carrie, although less interactive with him both seem a lot less stressed out by the youngster.

Definitely getting bigger. He's pretty hefty actually and has a really muscular chest. I think he'll give the tom that keeps trying to visit a run for his money when he's all "growed up." ;) He's pretty fearless too. And yep, to say I'm relieved to be taking pictures like these is an understatement. ;)
