Title: Picking ourselves up after a "Why do we do it day"
Post by: littlebrambles on August 23, 2009, 21:04:40 PM
I don't want to go into any details but it's not been a good day. Rescue is difficult enough as it is without major aggravation from people, I don't understand why people can be so spiteful when all I want to do is rescue and rehome.

I've done it long enough to know it goes with the territory - I've met the very best of people and sadly met some of the very worst. Boy can people be horrid when they don't get their own way - I expect many of you have been there too. It sure does knock the stuffing out of me, though thankfully it is rare.

Anyway after my emotionally stressful day and wondering why the hell I put myself through this I have spent an hour playing with my two foster kittens who are an absolute joy. Thank goodness they are here as they have made a better end to the day.

It's so sad that despite all the forms of communication and media so many people are still so ignorant of the work that individuals do within rescue - there are times when it seems a thankless task.

So for anyone else who has had to deal this week with a "difficult" person, one that makes you feel like giving it up, YOU'RE NOT ALONE, YOU'RE DOING A GREAT JOB and tomorrow is another day.   :Luv:  :Luv:  :Luv:  :Luv:

Well thank you all for your good wishes - I know many of you have tough times too, I'm cetainly not the only one. Especially thanks for the youtube link - it was just what I needed.  x x x

Anyway the rescue rollercoaster continues ..................  I've had a call from a unpleasant woman this a.m. - dad has died, house is being cleared, take the cat 16 yr old cat or it'll be pts by Wednesday, everywhere is full, nobody wants him .

FOLLOWED by a call an hour later from an old trusted friend who rang to ask have I an old cat she could adopt because the elderly one she took off me three years ago has gone to rainbow bridge. How perfect is that?

16 yr old to be picked up tomorrow and taken straight to new fab home - RESULT       A good result and has picked me up no end.

Cheers!

Thanks - of course I'm sad that my friends cat has died (it read as though I was pleased, sorry) but she feels able to make that next step forward now which is a brave but wonderful gesture.

I'm feeling more positive today   :innocent:

Just watched the Youtube video-OMG heartbreaking. I don't know how you rescue people do it day after day seeing such neglect and despair, but thank God you do!

I am glad your friend is able to honour her cats memory by helping another oldie - I am sure her cat had a hand in this with the timing.

Don't worry, nobody read it that way, only that you are pleased that your friend can open their heart and home to save another furbabe in need.

I definitely believe our Bridge Babes have a hand in all of this, Max sent Poot to me, and I'm sure this is the same with your friend.  Its wonderful  :Luv2:

Thank you all x

Things are much better now and today I reunited a cat that went missing over a month ago with his very relieved owner, great news.

Bizarrely I was asked to pick the cat up as a stray and as I had no room here my lovely vets agreed to board him yesterday for me. This morning one of the vet nurses came to work and recognised him as her neighbours cat - that was such a coincidence, I was overjoyed. They picked him up this afternoon - AFTER he was microchipped !! He was about 3 miles away from home and looking rather bedraggled too. A happy ending though - lots of smiling faces today.

Thanks everyone for the support.
