Title: Mika - beautiful girl needing a new home with no other cats - HOMED
Post by: JackSpratt on August 16, 2009, 19:19:25 PM
On our local F site, there was a young queen and her two kittens being given away. I got in touch and the kittens are gone; but the (unspayed) mother is still there. Can anyone help? In all fairness to my cats, I can't really even take her in temporarily but the man who has her has no intention of keeping her inside to avoid her getting pregnant again. He also told me he's keeping a female kitten because his granddaughter missed this cat having her babies and he wants her to see it happen..... :tired:

Can anyone offer any help? I'm very worried about her.

My sentiments exactly, Mark. I'm seriously peed off and really wanted to let rip on the phone to him but managed not to.

Argh! What a mare, these people who view there cats as back-street breeding machines!  >:(

Hope the babe manages to get sorted as she will seriously need spaying asap!  :scared:

I have friends asking around for temporary or permanent homes, but I've only bought myself a certain amount of time - and the man is seriously completely unconcerned she could just get pregnant again straight away. :tired:

Bumping this up because I only have this week to find somewhere. This little girl is still being let out and it wouldn't surprise me if she's pregnant again already.

If she's un-neutered I presume she won't be flead or vaccinated either?  Or any idea whether she is good with other cats.  Can't stop thinking about her but we haven't really the space to keep her separate from resident Robbie for any length of time.

She definitely lives with other cats and the man said she was a small little girl. (To which the response in my head was "Well, duh! She's not even a year old.")

Would you like me to PM the contact phone number so you can find out more? I'd love to know this girl is somewhere safe; I'm actually so tense about it I've got a knotted muscle in my neck! :shy:

Bonnielass has offered to help this girl out on Sunday when she gets a room freed up. Have spoken to the person who has her at the moment and he's agreed to keeping her until then.

I asked round at work and unfortunately the two people I knew who were looking for a kitty have both recently sorted new furries via the RSPCA and CP.  Glad to hear that this little one is gonna be safe now ... will continue to ask round and see if anyone can offer a permanent home.

Well, picked up Mika who is now with Bonnielass. She is an utter sweetheart, and let me tickle her tummy after initially being a bit nervous. She has a scab on her neck where it looks like another cat bit her, and the man told me "she makes a good mother if I wanted to breed from her....." which made me feel I'd done the right thing.

Well she is here and begining to relax, shes had a plateful of dinner, wolfed it down in fact so i dont know when she was last fed,,now just need to get her fattened up a bit as she is so thin, but she is still heavy with milk from feeding her kittens but she is a little honey, so much wants affection but not sure how to get it, at the moment she is in the spare room with the radio on soft, will try to get her into the vets next week for a check up and to see about getting her spayed so no more kitties for her, >:(

She's very oriental shaped in her face, which makes me think somewhere along the line there's a pedigree involved in her family. I hope she calms down soon - BL tells me she's looking for her babies, poor little mite.
Title: Re: URGENT: Rescue placement needed for a ten month old torti - Sheffield UPDATE
Post by: bonnielass on August 24, 2009, 19:55:31 PM
This little girl kept me up all night crying :( , she caught sight of Cassie,s kittens and started calling them and rolled over to the feeding position for them, i felt terrible but i had to take the grill door down and shut the door to try and calm her down, the only time she stopped was when i was cuddling her and talking to her but as soon as i left she started again, and from the amount of milk she still has i would hazard a guess that her kittens werent old enough to be taken away from her poor little mite :( i feel so sad for her but hopefully with lots of love and tlc she will start to adjust  to being a little one herself and enjoy life  ;)

That's really sad. Could she not have a couple of the kittens? - sorry if it is a stupid question as I don't have experience with them.

Poor little love.  She's probably had more love and attention in the last 24 hours with you than she had in the whole of her previous life.  I'm sure she will come round with your love and tlc.  Did you manage to get her booked in at the vets?  She may calm down when she can socialise with other cats as well.

Mark, the kittens are currently in isolation due to BL being a bit worried about a potential eye infection otherwise I don't think it would've hurt. Mika really is a lovely little lady, but when I went to collect her with my friends it was apparent she'd had no real socialising and there were no toys for cats in site. There are three other cats there, and none of them were particularly happy at the arrival of people. My lot all throng people when they come in, but these kind of looked worried and froze in the hope they wouldn't be seen. Not good.

Hope Mika has a better night tonight, BL. (And in turn, so do you. ;))

Well last night was a little better, i sat and nursed her for about an hour, she was purring for england :wow: she is such a little sweetheart,  wants to be loved but not sure how to go about it, i gave her a plate of chicken at supper time then made a hot water bottle up and put it on her bed with a big teddy, she cried for a few minutes when i left her but then it all went quiet , so i crept in and there she was snuggled up to teddy on the water bottle fast asleep, and not a peep till 5am this morning, ;D just a shame George didnt sleep till then :evillaugh: as for the kittens they have been to the vets tonight and have some   Aureomycin  cream for their eyes, so hopefully should be okay soon

Well went to do home check only to be cancelled about 5 mns before i was due to arrive, after a round trip of almost 35 miles i was not amused >:( so little Mika is still looking for that dream home,i have had to put her on Zylkene to calm her as she is getting a bit stressed at the moment, poor girl is so lost again all she wants is lots of cuddles and re-assurance, she is not bothered about dogs but i think the other cats may be stressing her so she is again in her little room with teddy and the radio for company :Luv:

This little girl could really do with a new home sooner rather than later. The number of cats in BLs house is causing her stress as she doesn't seem to cope well with large numbers of other felines. She actually seems calmer round dogs.

this little girl is very unhappy :( she is okay with the dogs but i think she is overwhelmed by the other cats, dont think she was ever socialised at her previous home, if i put her in her room she tends to overgroom causeing sores, if i let her out to roam when the doors shut she is very uncomfortable, its breaking my heart to see her so unhappy but i dont know what to do for the best, i have put her on Zylkene to see if that helps, she has had so much to cope with in the last few weeks, first loosing her kittens then being brought to a new place with everything so strange, she is eating okay and loves her milk and biscuits so in that sense she is okay, this is the first time i have been unable to really help a little one and i dont know what to do for the best, i have wormed her but darent flea her while she has these sores, i actually took her to bed last night to see if that would help as there was only Snuggs and Kali up there and she did settle on the bed eventually, so i think she needs to be either an only cat or just maybe 1 /2 others, if anyone can think of anything to help her settle i would be so grateful

This little girl is now a little bit more relaxed then she was, her sores are now tending to dry up and we have finally managed to frontline her , the vet was a little bit concerned that it may have been flea dermatitus but it turns out not to be thank goodness, she is eating well and loves her milk and is now coming for a little fuss, she is still wary when all the cats are in so tends to stay upstairs, she is okay when there are only a couple so  it seems she needs to be with maybe 1 /2 others , JS is going to take her for a while and see how she responds being away from a multi cat household, she is fine with the dogs and shows no fear of them, she really is a little darling and so loving when you stroke her and she is now starting to give little headbutts so we are making headway ;D

Asteroid can be a little bit of a madam, but is generally not aggressive. (Apart from with the Ginger invader - a cat who used to be a stray and lets himself in through out cat flap. She doesn't like that one bit.)

Mika should be coming here Saturday teatime.

Mika is apparently wreaking havoc with the other cats there due to the amount, and I was wondering if anyone could help get her here. (Where there are less cats.)

I also know of a man looking for a cat, so will call him later. Potentially Miss Mika sounds like a candidate to be an only cat, but it could be that she isn't spayed yet and is acting out.

Have started a transport thread.

Aw bless her and Im sure being spayed is the answer here....Put it this way I would be classed as people friendly but once my hormones start up I am aggressive and swipe out!  :evillaugh:

Hope you manage to get some transport sorted for her JS!  :Luv:

Would love to help you out but I'm on the wrong side of the penines!  As a thought if it isn't too urgent, I think 925dancer is staying with Bonnielass on her way to Edinburgh when she gets back from New Zealand.....maybe she wouldn't mind doing a slight detour to yours with Mika?

Just to update this Mika is fine when in a room with just the kittens and Eddie but as soon as i bring the others in at bedtime she turns into a monster, the result is that all my cats have started staying outside and wont come in where she is,mt little oriental Kali has stayed out for 3 nights on the trot now i have managed to  grab her before she legs it, and she is now confined to the bedroom which she hates henry,s taking to sleeping in the garage Cassie and the kittens no longer share their bed but sleep in the kitchen Davey is even afraid of her and is very nervous when she is around, even old George has been on the recieving end i have tried confining her to the spare room but if i do that she pulls her fur out and starts her sores open again, she is a loving little girl and craves attention but i think too many cats overwhelm her, and much as i hate to say this i have to consider my own cats i dont want to lose anymore, i am supposed to be taking her to JS but unfortunately im laid up with these dratted piles so find it hard to move around and driving is out of the question at the moment, i have never admitted defeat before but im afraid in this case im going to have to for the sake of my cats

Never see it as admitting defeat, BL. There's only so many cat personalities can share a space without all mayhem breaking lose! As I said, I'm asking around for a lift and if I can get one I'll let you know.

I'm also trying to get in touch with the young man who was looking for a cat to share his home. It's possible she just isn't a fan of sharing "her" territory.

Dakota was a raving loony when she first arrived, if she saw a cat in the distance she would run up the pen screaming, grunting and snorting, quite honestly the worst response iv ever seen in a cat. Spaying her was what improved her 'manners', theres hope for Mika yet.
Can she not be restricted to the one room so the others have their house?
Title: Re: Mika - stunning young girl looking for a permanent loving home - updated
Post by: JackSpratt on September 13, 2009, 19:35:27 PM
MM, if Mika is restricted to one room she becomes a "self-harmer." She makes bald patches on herself; having had one of my lot exhibit this behaviour many years ago I can say it's pretty distressing to us as well as them!

Having said that, we'd restrict her to one room but we're in all day so would probably take it in turns keeping her company. The spay voucher has been ordered already and should be here tomorrow or Tuesday. (Although if the amount of time it's taking for the frontline and few other bits I posted to BL  is anything to go by..... :tired:)

I personally wouldnt move her to a home with other cats, especially not one with only females, she has proved that she needs to be an only cat, and I find females worse in the house, haven't had 2 males fighting in the house (although outside is a different matter), it has always been the girls, especially when one doesn't like other cats, and it is a distance to travel to find out she isn't any better. Spaying Kizzy helped a lot though, although after a year she would still have a go at Sam.

Your opinion is valued Desley - I was concerned about that in all honesty. I'm hoping to hear from a guy I worked with who is looking for a cat. He's a nice young bloke and doesn't have any other pets; ideal for a little madam.

EDIT: Should I change the title to reflect that Mika would benefit from having a little more of a one on one environment? Opinions please.

Just a couple of thoughts - We have equal numbers of male and females and the girls tend to bop the boys for no reason, we have one unspeyed lady Miss Indie and now she has stopped calling and keeping us awake no issues - just need to get her to the vet for spaying but haven't managed to convince her it is in her best interests!

Our cats range from 17 years young to 14 weeks - they are boys and girls some with attitude some nice ones to and all have theior moments but if we bought in anything that upset our own it would have to leave as ours for the most part get along but like all animals both fur and human will have their moments despite our best efforts

Des you say you wouldn't move her - have to say BL own cats are the priority here and JS has offered a great alternative and will get her spayed.  Des you also say you are taking on a cat who has issues yet you have more girls in your home so perhaps not the ideal place for a nervous cat.

She may thrive in a one on one situation but at the mo that's not available JS...She needs out of BL's for her cats and her own sake...

I would still take her and get her spayed JS.....I have 7 females and nothing more than the odd paw attack goes on with them so at the moment I reckon she needs to be somewhere and you are available!  ;)

I would love to have kept her but i have my handsful with my lot plus  the kittens and altho she is much calmer i think she would be better with maybe just 1 or 2 other cats, she is certainly okay with dogs and is often found lying near the dogs beds, but the best thing is that she is learning to be a young kitty again and play :wow: and now she has a bit more confidence she is coming on in leaps and bounds literally as she flies past me with 2 kittens in hot  persuit, nothing is sacred anymore :evillaugh:

That's great - I still have a soft spot for her!

Easily done, she's a cuddle monster with people. I have the spay voucher on my table and am intending to give her a couple of days and then get her sorted out. I think it will help her relax a little more when every female isn't 'competition' and every male a prospective 'mate.' Must be confusing for such a young girl.

BL, have been asking friends with dogs - but so far, no luck. It's a shame because I'd rather find her somewhere it seems more likely she'll settle quickly but hopefully three cats isn't too many for her to deal with. (And vice versa, obviously.)

Unfortunately, one of my lot is having issues due to a "visiting" cat who keeps coming in through the cat flap despite our valiant attempts to make sure he doesn't. This is stressing her out, and I don't want to make matters worse, so am asking everyone I can think of that might be suitable if they can offer a home to Mika.

I feel pretty badly about this, but my cats have to come first in this instance. Hopefully will find her a home very soon.

Just for a further update on Mika, she is now calming down a lot and would be okay to go with maybe 1 /2 other cats , and she is certaily okay with dogs, last night she was in the kitchen with 5 other cats and there was no hissing or spitting so i think its just a case of getting used to the exsisting cats in the house, she is  also learning via the kittens to play  which is a delight to see, i really need a home for her now as i dont want her to get to settled here with the gang and then move her on as i think this will be very unsettling for her so a new home now is a priority, anyone interested in giving Mika the home she deserves please contact me

I do have the voucher, yes. But am a bit dubious about posting it as when Mika first went to BLs I sent a frontline pipette, a drontal tablet, a breakaway collar (in case she escaped!) and a couple of toys. They still haven't made it and I've picked up a form from the post office today to gain reimbursement.

BL, in your opinion do you think she'd be OK with one other cat? I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere on the thread.
Title: Re: Mika - beautiful girl needing a new home with no other cats

I think given the settling in period she would be fine with another cat, today she has been fine with most of mine apart from 2 , even Kali came home tonight so i think she is begiing to settle more which is why i need to find her a permanent home before she really gets settled,, she even had a supervised walk in the garden  just to give her a bit of fresh air and she was fine, stayed close to me all the time

Hope BL doesn't mind me doing this, but I have a new neighbour and it's a girl I've known for years. She only has one other cat, a very laid back male and a two year old daughter who is very gentle with cats. As soon as her the furniture is moved in Mika will hopefully become a new member of her family.

Definitely agree with that. Mika was bullied at her previous home by the other cat I think and it made her understandably uncomfortable around other cats. Glad to hear she's interacting in  a way that doesn't consist of hissing!

The reason i decided to wait  was because JS has the voucher to spey and also i didnt think it was fair to move Mika to her new home until all the furniture was in and things sorted  as it would be to stressful to go to a new home and then have people in and out moving things and the general upheaval invovlved with the settling in plus the resident cat to contend with.
I have just got her to the stage of being relaxed and would hate for her to get stressed again. ;D
She is now playing like a young cat should and generally being a pest as they are at that age :Luv:
Also she is a complete cuddlebum now and loves to cuddle up in bed at night and is quite happy being round my other cats apart from Kali who she dislikes immensly >:(

I wonder why Kali and Mika don't like each other? Odd when they take to other cats just fine and there's one they can't deal with, isn't it? Completely enforces the "defined personality" theory we all have about our cats.

Hopefully, Little Miss will calm down a little after her spay and like everyone!

I think you were wise in your decision BL, Mika has only just started to act normally again and I know how stressful a new home would be never mind them still sorting the furninture etc out!

I also think it would be easier for her to take to her new surroundings when she does get spayed, may as well cope with everything at once!  ;)
