Title: Valois - old girl needing retirement home! - Blackpool
Post by: JackSpratt on June 21, 2009, 12:18:14 PM
Valois is 21 years young and is looking for a new home. She is fine with other cats, but it's thought she'd be best suited to a home without young children or kittens.

She is lovely - how come she is in care at her age JS? I really should stop looking at these oldies, I really dont need anymore cats.

She's lovely.

I so wish I could have more cats. She deserves a nice retirement home with all the joys of sunbeams, water, food, soft beds and some company.

Depends where she is coming from. Some rescues offer to help with vet costs when homing oldies. She is  :Luv2:

Also not all old cats cost alot, Byron has only had her teeth out and has abs on and off for her 2 remaining, we have had younger cats who've cost much more.  I also think that if you get a cat that is so old they tend to be very healthy anyway to do be doing so well.

I can't believe people could have a cat for so long and not take it with them. Spain is hardly the ends of the earth  - hopefully her next owners will care more about her.

I know what you mean. Lacie cost us over £300 in her 1st 2wks of being here(not including Stronghold for all  our cats because of her infestation) & she was only 11 months old.   :scared:

Possible home offered for her on Rescue Helpers Unite - depends if she's OK with dogs. Have PM'd Nicky, but cross your fingers folks!

To be fair, at 21 a lot of vets advise against taking animals when people move abroad due to the stress levels they'd endure. Personally unless it was a once in a lifetime opportunity I'd wait to move!

Fingers crossed for her. I personally wouldnt put a cat that age through the journey, while Spain is only a few hours away, it is the difference in climate that could affect her, we are hardly used to warm temps in this country!!
I thought you would have been tempted Jane!!
For those of you concerned about vet bills with oldies, they can be insured, AXA insured an 18.5yo for me last year.

At the same time, I would imagine being rehomed after 21 years is stressful as well?

She's OK with dogs, but the dog isn't OK with cats. :( So this old lady is still looking.
