rescued from down a drain earlier today in the New Addington area. he is being looked after by the people who found him and will be taken to the vets in the morning to be scanned for MC. his rescuers are happy to look after him until he is claimed. he has possibly been missing for a while as he is a bit skinny. they estimate he is about a year old and very friendly, happy to have been saved.
-
opinion has change on the age of this puss. he has been examined a bit more by the lady whos son fished him out of the drain and he has a few scars and they now think he is skinny in an elderly way. he'll probably be going to croydon CP as they don't think their place is the right environment for an elderly cat (they already have a grumpy blind dog, a poorly old cat and a younger cat). hopefully they will find a chip when he goes to the vet in the morning and he can be reunited with his owner.
-
Oh very best of luck for this lovely old guy...I do hope he will be okay bless him!
-
hmmm :shify:, just heard from the person who has the cat. she's contacted croydon CP and their advice was to let the cat back out. is that the normal course of action?
-
What??? An elderly cat that is under weight and has just been rescued from a drain!!! Dos'nt sound right to me! :(
-
If that's true, I think that's shameful advice. >:(
If I was your friend, I would get the cat checked over by a vet (for chip/health/approx age) and take it from there...
I certainly wouldn't let it go again!
-
she was told "we don't take in every stray cat you know".
he is going to be checked over right about now and the vet said they will then contact CP. hopefully they will get a better response.
-
This is dreadful. How can any rescue suggest such a thing. I am so angry! I am going to contact Croydon CP. If the information isn't correct they have a chance to put us right. If it is correct they need to know that public eye is on them. I will let people know the response.
-
I did have a quick look at their website: it seems Croydon CP are without a co-ordinator & have lost a cattery facility... even so!
-
I have just e-mailed them asking them to look into this and respond. I have asked for their assurance that if this cat is not claimed they will make every effort to rehome him. I will let you know if I receive a response. If there has been no misunderstanding then their attitude is shameful and needs to be made public.
-
Good on you Moira....I think this lovely fella deserves better than to be put back out!!! :Luv:
-
I really can't understand this from a CP branch; it must have been a misunderstanding/or taken out of context, surely?
-
I hope you are right, Jasmine. I know many CP branches that are really good. At any rate, I felt it only fair to give them the right to reply.
-
Update
He has turned out to be a she, according to the veterinary nurse, and she is either pregnant or has just had a litter.
Her teats are really swollen...as well as her being underweight..but we are going to keep her, so we will have try and
make her as comfortable as we can..when shes alot stronger, then we will introduce her to the dog.
-
I did call the CP this afternoon and the man said that im too place the cat back outside, so that he whose now a she can find way home.
He also stated that they don't take in all strays...which then left me very confused.
-
oops and forgot to mention...no chip was found on her...
-
If she has just had a litter, could the kittens be in the storm drain too? :scared: :(
-
oh blimey, i hope she doesnt have a litter waiting somewhere for her :(
-
Ironically, you now begin to wonder if the CP did give the right advice...
-
in hindsight maybe they did. however, the information they had was that it was an elderly male cat. no way they couldve known from the call that it was a possibly lactating female.
-
what a dilemma... :scared: i hope there are not any kittens anywhere
but ive checked alot of drains, locally.
-
Putting an entire cat out is mad,did they know this on 2nd phonecall? obviously every stray cat thats reported to a charity cant be taken in but sensible advice should be given to the finder.
An ultrasound would be a quick way of finding out if theres anything in there.
I hope there wasnt any kittens down there, they certainly would be shrieking after a few hours, is it an area with foot traffic? Hopefully people would hear.
She must be kept in now,and if you need any help with spaying costs then there are vouchers available ;D
-
So he is a she!!! So glad the peeps are gonna keep her....Well Done to them and tut tut to CP! ;D >:(
You would think if she had had kittens that she would be going crazy to get back to them...that's if she has'nt abandoned them already? :scared:
-
well we are going for a second opinion on whether she is pregnant, but ive had a good look at her belly tonight.
and she is bulging..which i know doesn't really tell alot..after 24 hours though, she is looking a whole lot better..and she loves chicken alot. ;D
But i will update you on her progress, and if she has babies you certainly all will see pics. ;D
-
nice one Carol. i know you've checked the drains locally so hopefully she's pregnant (never thought i'd hear myself saying that :evillaugh:) and we dont have to stress out about kittens somewhere. give me a shout if you need any help, just don't offer me a kitten :evillaugh:
-
What a lovely girl. :) Hope if there are kittens they're still in her tummy. ;)
-
Great to hear that you are keeping her, Cazanna.
Just for info: I received reply to my e-mail from CP. They say they are checking out what exactly was said with their Helpline volunteer and if you would like to talk to them again they can offer advice. They noted that, as we can all understand, they simply cannot take in all the cats that are in need as, like all rescues, they are overwhelmed - especially at this time of year. They say that where they can't take in a cat it is their practice to advise people of other organisations that may be able to help them and that they constantly review what spaces they have coming up against the cats on their waiting list.
-
If and when she does have the kittens, i might need your help with homing them when they reach 8 weeks.
By the look of the size of her, i wouldn't of thought she will have many, shes tiny..
At the moment shes exploring my room, as my son has her in his room at night, cos the other animals sleep in my room. 8)
-
shes has a much calmer look about her now... :)
-
she has a very pretty face - time to give her a name?
-
Yes, she needs a name. She looks really sweet.
-
well, we are trying to think of some names, but any ideas will be great!!!
-
Tabitha! (cos she's tabby :shy: :innocent:)
-
Randi is an anagram for drain, and she is pregnant :evillaugh:
-
Poor little girl, I wonder how she came to be in the drain :( So glad she has been found by such caring people though :)

Excellent
-
 nice one!!!
-
her new name is Milly... ;D
-
Milly :wow: that suits her. She is a very pretty girl. Are there any kittens in her Tum?.
give her a snuzzle from me. xxxx
-
i cant feel any, but when i take her the vet again, hopefully they will be able to tell me for sure.
But my gut instincts are telling me, that her kittens may of been weaned off of her recently..

:'( If they have i so hope they are somewhere safe. xxxx At lease Mum (Milly) is safe. xxx
-
milly is in season now, so i guess from that shes not pregnant, good news in one sense...im thinking that her kittens were weaned off of her
at there correct time. still no posters of her about reported missing, nothing at all.
now i shall arrange her to be neutered, as she should of been in the first place, as my young cat is trying to mate with her, but his been neutered
so milly is out of luck there... :naughty:
-
Well that's good to know that the chances of her losing young kits is now even less....Good luck with her spay! :Luv:
Any new piccies of the doll herself? ;)
-
What a gorgeous girl
Thank you for taking care of her
-
little Milly at bedtime..
-
:thanks: Aww! What a treasure she is and sooo relaxed in her new home! :Luv2:
-
she is a lovely cat..we have been blessed with her, it does seem strange how we found her outside our home stuck in the
drain, bottom upwards.....She now has found a way to get around the dog, its quite funny in a sense.
my dog is blind and she knows it now... :naughty: but if my dog gets too close, then she smacks him on the nose, and he walks away
as if to say, ok millys there.. :evillaugh:
-
I have a dog and he knows that the cats are Boss! :heeee heeee:
-
Milly as she is now. And we know her true self. She is naughty...but cute with it :naughty:
-
we are in sore need of a happy ending, and this one sure fits the bill
thanks for the update - Milly must have instinctively known who to wag her posterior at ;D
-
Aw bless her, I am so happy with this story its the ones like this that I so like to follow!
Well done you and give Millie a tummy tickle from me! ;) :Luv:
