Title: One year old black and white tom - Derbyshire - needing new home. FAIRLY URGENT
Post by: JackSpratt on April 25, 2009, 20:00:10 PM
Due to a relationship break up. Unfortunately getting information is proving pretty difficult! I know his name is Cosmo, he's one year old. He isn't aggressive but isn't especially a cuddly lap cat either.

Not sure if he's been neutered or id chipped. (I'm thinking not, but am not 100% sure.)

he was put on Freecycle about a week ago and the lady has kept in touch letting me know if he has anywhere or not. He looks a nice cat; but there is a bit of a turf war going on in our house so even fostering is out of the question. (Not between my cats - between my cats and a ginger tom that thinks it lives here!)

I think it's a case of not knowing what to do to find a new home more than not caring in all honesty. ;)

Not sure about other cats, I know he lived with two dogs though. (They were both on Freecycle too.)

Should this puss cat be neutered (if he isnt) before being rehomed!

Possibly so, Sharon. But I figure finding him a safe home via somewhere other than Freecycle should take precedence over that. I can ask the local CP for a voucher when I've got him somewhere I know cares about that kind of thing. ;)

He's snipped. :) Can anyone offer Cosmo a home? He sounds utterly lovely and if my lad would accept another male I'd be offering to take him in myself.

I should also mention he has been reposted on Freecycle, so the sooner I find a safe place the better. ;)

He's been put on Freecycle three times now - this is the latest:

I AM REOFFERING THIS CAT ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND WHO IS GOING THROUGH A SPLIT AND
IS MOVING INTO RENTED ACCOMADATION THIS WEEKEND BUT UNFORTUNATELY SHE IS UNABLE
TO TAKE HIM WITH HER. WE HAVE OPFFERED HIM ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS WITHOUT SUCCESS
(HENCE THE LAST MINUTE ATTEMPT)

HE IS PREDOMINANTLY WHITE WITH BLACK PATCHES  AND IS AN OUTDOOR CAT
WHO GENERALLY GET ON WELL WITH OTHER CATS. HE IS USED TO BEING AROUND CHILDREN
AND ALSO DOGS. HE HAS BEEN SNIPPED.

ALTHOUGH THIS IS A DESPERATE LAST MINUTE ATTEMPT TO REHOME COSMO WE WILL
CONSIDER CAREFULLY WHO HE IS REHOMED WITH AND WILL NOT OFFER TO THE 1ST TO
RESPOND. HE NEEDS TO GO TO AN ANIMAL LOVING HOME WHERE HE WILL BE A BIG PART OF
THE FAMILY AS THIS IS THYE LIFE HE IS ACCUSTOMED TO.

Can anyone help?

He sounds wonderful :Luv2: would get on well with everyone in this house, and he'd make a matching pair with Penguin! :naughty: but he's miles away  :innocent:

Whereabouts are you? Transport requests can be organised. The poor lad keeps getting posted on Freecycle and it's so sad.

I could possibly squeeze him in here as a temporary measure,if Beth wanted him and we could organise transport

I'm in Southampton so it'd be a fair trek, but he does sound like he'd be wonderful. :Luv2:

What do people think? I'm not sure what's meant by "a desperate last minute attempt."

Why 3 times - do they take him off then back on again?

I really hope not - I'll email and ask. They know I'm trying to find somewhere for Cosmo on rehoming sites, so hopefully they'll mean he'll go to a rescue. (People are still reluctant to send animals to rescues around here. And to be honest, with a certain very well publicised one I know why.)

Sorry Janey - no, they've posted him and had no offers of a home so keep "relisting" him.  :tired: He was put on with two dogs; both had gone within days. One of them was listed under a week later by the "new owner" who said their dog decided it didn't like the newcomer. Not really long enough to establish much in all honesty, but there we go!

"It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills."

That's part of the description written by the people that set it up. (Who refuse to respond to my messages....) It's down to moderator discretion which infuriates me, because most of our moderators "mean well" with regards to animal posts and say they've helped in rescue but are clearly fairly clueless as far as I can tell. I have befriended a newbie though, and he emailed me the other day to check if some kittens were old enough to be posted (six weeks) as he felt they weren't. Hurrah for him, he rejected the post!

Beth, the issue with Cosmo travelling for three hours from where he is to you, is that if Penguin and Ginny don't take to him he'd be n the same situation again and would've travelled all that way for it. Difficult, but if the option is "the last ditch attempt" then maybe his chances are better having an adventure!

I know, tis a bit of a lottery, 'specially as he's not been assessed in the same way as a rescue would've been. I know my two would be fine and accept a newcomer, so it'd just be dependant on his personality.

However, there is a space here, which he is more than welcome to fill ;) i've had a look at the route and i'd be able to go about as far as oxford, (wouldn't be able to go farther than that, partly 'cos i've only been driving for 3 weeks, and partly 'cos my son wouldn't cope with being in the car longer than that.) so it'd just be maybe 2 other people needed, and i have another forum i can possibly beg for help on if no one from here could do t'other runs.

Well, it's definitely worth considering. ;) I have contacted the poster and enquired what was meant by "last attempt." She seems a nice lady and I think it will probably mean a rescue - but they won't have taken into account there's waiting lists for rescues.

well done you Beth for thinking of him - he looks a good weight and in excellent condition from that photo, and a cat who will allow you to rub his tummy can't be all bad ;D

Can't stop thinking about this boy... :shy: Would it be possible to ask for some more info on him, how old the kids are that he's used to and how well he got on with the dogs? Whether he's okay using a litter tray 'til he'd be allowed out, and whether he's been jabbed/chipped and any health issues. Not sure if you have a contact number/email for the owner?

Bad news Beth, sorry. Just read the Freecycle updates:

"Thank you for the huge response for the desperate attempt to rehome Cosmo. He has now been taken and rehomed with an animal loving family. Sorry I cant respond to all requests. Thank you for all offers of help to rehome him too."

I hope they are a genuine family.
