Title: Appeal for 10 extremely ill cats
Post by: RACR on February 05, 2009, 13:12:46 PM
As you may remember the story of Anya and leo, well we have managed to get the woman to hand over the remaining 10 cats and kittens and they will be coming to us on the 11th feb weather permitting.

All 10 cats and kittens have the flu virus, one badly ulcerated eyes and blind, 1 apperently with 3 legs and another stunted growth. The out look for some isnt looking good and we think we may have a possible few PTS :(

My main concern at moment is the urgent vet care they will need asap. With such a large amount of extremely ill cats and kittens this is going to completely drain the funds and still not cover the costs.

An example, Anya and leo came from same place, just these 2 have cost over £300!! Leo's costs more due to re accuring respitiry problems from the flu.

Please if you can help at all, even a small amount it helps alot towards these cats and kittens.

You can donate online on the RACR website. There is a donation button on the bottom of the main page

Or if you prefer a more trusted form of donating you can donate through this forum and say who the donations are for :)

No, she thought it was 11 but had so many with out interest she didnt even know herself, turns out 10. The lady collecting them will be checking just incase one is being hidden away and removing them all.

Im so worried and anxious for these with the condition there in. Apperently the little blind girl has a leader who is a male, so they will be kept together after nuetering.

Im so glad she has agreed to hand all over, we have such a hard time with her trying to get these out etc..

Just to update. Carma the black bigger female has been spayed today and ID chipped, will be innoculated tomorrow. 3 boys hopefuly will be done next week providing we get the funds back up and the big boys respitory infection clears up, which did but is resurfacing again. Lola's eye hasnt cleared up enough yet for the vet to be able to decide what to do , she is still receiving treatment for her eye. Both Charlie and Lola are not fit enough yet to be neutered/spayed so will continue there treatment of anti biotics and creams. Serenity and Hope are settling into their foster home, they still need to gain some weight before being able to be spayed etc..

Lolas fosterer has taken Lola back to vets as she isnt responding to the eye treatment very well. The other eye is starting to get sore also. Fingers crossed the treatment will work for her.

Well, Carma was rushed in yesterday morning as extremely ill after spay, turned out a massive infection had kicked in real fast. She was admitted in to stay. They have flushed the wound out and re stitched and she is on strong anti biotics, can come back later.

I am extremely angry with Lolas vets. The operations yesterday was to spay and possible eye removal if it is real bad. After she had come round from GA they called the fosterer and said the eye is real bad and cannot be saved, she will need it removed asap  Why on earht didnt they do it yesterday whilst under, the whole point of it!!  Now she will have under go surgery again to get the eye removed asap as the infection is so bad its eating away the eye, also putting her at risk. I have told the fosterer not to go back there and use another vet as they are also real expensive, so far outstanding cost for lola and charlie is £391 for anti biotics, eye ointment, pwder stuff for in the food to help with snotty nose and a spay  I will be calling them later to send me a invoice so i can clear the account there on monday, great seeing as funds are now left at £128, but I will pay the rest anyway out my money to clear and close account there. I personaly feel they did this to get extra money for doing another operation? I will also be asking them why they didnt remove the eye there and then!!

Poor babies  :'( :'(

How can people let them get in to this state? - and some vets are in it solely for money not the welfare of animals   >:( >:(
Thankfully mine arent one of them, the practise owners have animals of their own.

We are really struggling at the moment to the degree I have had to close rescue doors to any more animals coming in and turn away :(

Charlie and Lola really are struggling and constantly at the vets, Charlie more so as we cannot get his infections under control. We have had several tests done, they are FIV clear and nothing is showing is the tests. Charlie is currently on a  course of injections dailey to help fight infection and viruses, so far no improvement and he only has 2 days left on the course. I am not sure where we go from here, will have to see what the vet suggests, but things really are not looking good for Charlie at all :(

Carma has fully recovered after 3 operations and has a nice clear scar. Milly is slowley improving on trusting humans and finaly her infection has stayed at bay, will now be spayed, innoculated and ID chipped for homing.

2 ofthe 3 boys have been homed, sadly one has yet again come back down with respitiry problems and runny eyes again so isnt ready yet.  Hope and serenity are on the look for a new home now also :)

Anya and Leo, the 1st 2 we took from the caravan back in december have settle into there new home lovely xx

We are still needing desperate help for some of these cats. 2 are still extremely poorly.

Here is latest update from Chalrie and Lolas fosterer.

Quote
Hi
Have just got back from the vets, so coincidentally was going to email you anyway...!

Well to update:

Charlie seems slightly better on the homeopathic stuff - still snuffly and occasional cough but no huge mucal discharge and the bleeding has stopped. :)

Lola - not good news.  Her eye has deteriorated a lot and the lower eyelid has now turned in on itself (entropia it's called). There are inflamed lumps on the surface of the cornea and I think we have reached the end of the road for possible treatments, especially as the infection is at risk of spreading to the other eye.   :Crying:   She is booked in to have the eye removed next Wednesday....  Cost wise it could be about £250.

So far, the caravan cats vet costs are well over a £1,000.

If charlie stops responding to homapathic remedies there is nothing for left for him to try :(

Just to update. Lolas op went well, but when she got home and the buster collar on she went into a manic frenzy and wouldnt stop. They tried caming her down but she wouldnt. In the process of banging about her eye, face and nose started bleeding and she was rushed in again over night. They managed to settle her and nicky collected her again this afternoon. She is on cage rest now also, so we are hoping she settles down and heals fast and doesnt get to stressed being locked in a cage ontop of the buster collar and such.

Poor girl is real going through it :(

We have some great news with these 2. We changed vets due to a problem with them. The new vets have case history and did thouragh examination. Both cats are doing just great. Charlie is now well enough to neuter and is being done next week :) he will always have weak chest and may suffer on and off through out his life with respitory problems which can be cleared up quickly with treatment, same as Leo, one of the 1st caravan cats we removed. Lolas eye is healing fine great. In a couple of weeks both will be ready for rehoming  ;D
