I am feeling a tad helpless tonight and this case has got the better of me. :'(
I took a call from a really nice, genuine man from London who is clearing out his mother's house down this way near Whitstable. You get an instinct for when you are being played and this man is really feeling lost. :( She had 4 cats. He has managed to home 2 himself but can't home the other 2 - both male, 1 black persian and 1 tabby both aged 4. He's got one more week to find placements before he has to hand back the keys to the council.
All of which I can take, just, but he said his mother adored her cats and asked that instead of funeral flowers, friends and relatives should donate to CP. He asked how he could get the money to me. :'( :'(
How can I tell him there's no room for his mum's beloved cats? :'( :'(

I'm going to do all I can for this bloke because I feel for him. I'll help him phone around the nearby rescues. We can't accept his mum's funeral flowers money without doing something to help her cats - I really would quit if we did. >:(
Our welfare officer said she hopes we can help in a few days. In depends on one of our fosterers who is due to go into hospital for surgery. If the date of her operation is after next week, we can squeeze them in somehow and delay a less urgent one coming in. But we really, really need a rehoming or 2 right now as it's so near Christmas, things have dried up. :scared:

Mindst you, they probably would end up staying here as i would be reluctant to part with them :rofl:
Maybe i could just have a cats home - its a bit like a drop-in centre for cats as it is !!
There is a persian recue in Bristol - my geography is really pretty bad ,so not sure if thats a long way from you as well ??

He's trying Foal Farm tomorrow so is prepared to drive them a distance. There's a few smaller places down here I'm going to try as well. I think he wouldn't mind taking them as far as London. He just doesn't want them falling into the wrong hands - if you know what I mean? ;) They are both described as initially timid but affectionate once they settle.
Of course, we all know cats will fly out the door after the first week of January so it's just a case of juggling cats and fosterers until then. Trouble is most rescues are in the same boat so I'm expecting a lot of rejections tomorrow. :innocent: We would make these cats next on the list, probably accept them within a couple of weeks but the one week deadline is the problem here. :(

Dawn, do you think Josie in London might be able to help, if the guy is prepare to drive them to London then i can help to get them to her, or even keep them for few days till a place is sorted.

I have spoken to this man again this morning. He says we have until Monday latest. He has to return to work then or faces getting in trouble. Also the council want the house back. :(
Our welfare officer, Caroline, is trying all avenues as we really can't walk away.
But it keeps getting tougher - today a new report of a puss we rehomed a while back is now attacking its kitten and they want to return it before real damage is done. Another for the list... :tired:

I can now say how we did it, because all parties with a right to know have been informed.
The man in deperation last night did call a 'certain other rescue'. He was told the kindest thing to do was PTS his mother's cats. >:( When he told me this morning, I called Caroline, our welfare officer, as it is ultimately she who says which cats we admit - although I knew we were packed full. :scared: Caroline then told a few of our fosterers this man's story. A very kind lady fosterer called Sue roped in her daughter as a temporary fosterer to take over her present foster case, and Sue will have these 2 until decks are cleared. :briggin:
I think the folks here involved felt that it comes to us all and we want our cats taken proper care of after we go. We realised this man was desperate to do right by his mum's beloved cats and was genuine. And of course it is so near Christmas and he must have felt his world was ending. When I told him we could take his cats, he cried with relief. I must confess I had a cry too. :innocent: He said his mother can now rest in peace. 8)
So... we are now officially extremely packed with cats and very definitely closed until further rehomings happen, which probably means until after Christmas now. :innocent: But there was no way I was going to abandon this man. :shy: :evillaugh:

I am so pleased for the gentleman.
He was told the kindest thing to do was PTS his mother's cats.
Sadly I hear this often and even more sad is when I hear all the different rescues or branches of different rescues who say this. I posted not to long ago about a man who was advised his 14. 15 & 16 year old cats would be better of PTS, otherwise they would be put in a pen and run up the sides until; it drove them mad, or be put in a shed until they died. After being told that he decided that PTS was the kindest thing. However, I heard and after a bit of a long story and a few white lies (I had to do it to save their lives) , he brought the cats to me and we found them lovely homes very quickly. We did need to split them into a two and a one but that was because one of the cats did not like the other two anyway and used to lead them a ‘merry dance’.
I am sure many of you know that the oldest cat Cats Protection took in and re-homed after their owner died was 32.
