Title: Lovely dignified older lady needing a home - HOMED
Post by: JackSpratt on November 15, 2008, 21:19:41 PM
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,19407.0.html (http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,19407.0.html)

The reason Tizer needs a new home is explained here.

Tizer is approximately 12 years old and is not ID chipped. Her current carer is unsure about innoculations and thinks they're likely to have lapsed. She is spayed and is hugely affectionate and definitely likes human company. Has lived with other cats and dogs during her life, so should be fine in an environment with other animals.

She is lovely - and I would love another geriatric to add to the bunch but I have a big holiday coming up next year and I think it would be fairer to wait until that is out of the way - too much upheavel for a new puss!

Plus I am too far away - but she looks adorable!!

Oh don't you just wish you could take them all eh!!

Ahhh, will an email address be sufficient?

Our coordinators would prefer me to put a phone number on as I sometimes use their site and Cat Chat page for other local cats not in their care and it saves them getting calls they can't deal with.

Sorry to be difficult

If beautiful cats like Tizer can't find a home, what hope is there?  :(

Everyone called my dad's mum "Tizer nanny" - she had a hard life with 12  kids but used to go to afternoon cinema with a bottle of Tizer for a break from it all.

I bet it is her age Mark, too many people think that with a 12yo they wont have a lot of time with them. People also think that they will end up with higher vets bills, although she could easily be insured.

12 is young to us! she is half Byron's age, she is lovely and if I was looking to adopt I would love her - is she on Cat Chat?

She's not on CatChat, no. She's on Corporal Smokeys CP page and here. She is apparantly a sweetheart, but there's only been one very vague enquiry unfortunately.

I prefer older cats, the older the better in my books.

Me too, I dont adopt cats under the age of 12, but sadly most people dont think like that, and when 4mo's are too old, then it is no wonder that a 12yo is being overlooked.

She's on our Catchat page too hun. I am updating tomorrow so I'll bump her up again. The vague enquiry involved someone reading her story where it says "do not call the branch as we don't have any further information, call this number instead" and then calling the branch

Its a real shame no one has taken her on - she looks a darling.

My two old boys are 12 - Oscar acts about 20 and Edgar acts about 9 months!

Likewise with vet bills its all the luck of the draw - these two have been to the vet much less than Bertie who I re-homed when he was 7  but I guess people just get it into their heads!

I found it curious they didn't want contact with Tizers current human carer - and so did he. It put him off contacting the person who had enquired. (Quite understandably in my opinion, the decision was difficult enough for him.)

Title: Re: Lovely dignified older lady needing a home - Alfreton
Post by: caledonia on January 05, 2009, 08:54:48 AM
Yes he does have a point - with two wee ones on the way it could be too much to take on !!

In saying that however - it would depend on the character of the little lady. Oscar is 12 and little if no work at all - unlike his demanding 12 year old pal Edgar!!

Oscar literally just eats and sleeps and occasionallly comes up for a cuddle on the couch. The most noise he makes is indignant meows when I am taking too long getting his food open !

If the little lady was this way inclined then not too much work - but then hmmmm making a cup of tea will prob seem like too much work with new born twins!  :wow:

I know. It's a bit upsetting for her carer too I would think. It was a hard decision to make; he loved his parents a lot and is fond of the animals, but had never taken any on himself after moving out due to his lifestyle. (He's very active and goes on activity weekends and the like.) He feels pretty bad that it's not working out but he has tried for a couple of years to make it work, bless him.

aww poor lil lady!

have you tried the free to good home forums? their emphasis is on putting animals that would otherwise be advertised in shop windows etc, through a proper rehoming process. Also dogpages forums is where I found Minkys new family... there was no rescue involved in my case, but as I am a vet nurse, I felt happy to do my own home checks etc....

Just had a quick look on here.
The first 2 i looked at both wanted to rehome un-neutered cats.
the 2nd one was quiet sad as they want to rehome 2 un-neutered boys and the Mother is yet again pregnant.
Someone had advised them to get the cats neutered but it goes to show just how many people dont both with neutering anymore

Yes, I agree its not ideal, but if the cats are in rescue, and have therefore been neutered etc, its another avenue to try maybes????

I hate to see so many animals in need of homes, and if circumstances permitted, would be much more active - I think all you rescue guys do a sterling job, but not everyone looking for a new pet will go down the rescue route... doesnt mean they are bad potential owners - a few i have met prefer to look at the free to good home ads in order to stop animals from going to unsuitable homes... if you know what i mean.. :shy:

OK I have given in. If she can cope with life here in rural Derbyshire she has a home. Hubby said, "if we do not give her a home who will?" provided she can cope with 5 other resident cats and the mad comings and goings of fostering, there is a chair waiting for her!  :Luv2:

So who do I need to speak to then?

Well, I have just phoned him and it does not look too hopeful.  :( He feels that she would not be happy with 5 other resident cats and fosters as she is used to being the centre of attention, which is fine by me as we do need to thiink of the cat. I have told him that she would not want for attention as there is plently of laps to go round, but he did not seem too sure. He has my number and I have left him to think about it and I have told him he is welcome to call me if he wants more details.

Sounds like he wnats her to go to either a smaller feline household or one where she is the only cat.

Oh well, there is a home here if she wants it, it is his call and I respect that.

I would too, she really tugs at my heart.  It's lovely of Debs to offer but I think he's doing the right thing in trying to find her a home like she's used to it must be hard enough having to rehome her as it is and I would do the same if I were him.
Title: Re: Lovely dignified older lady needing a home - Alfreton
Post by: JackSpratt on January 15, 2009, 16:52:44 PM
He sent me a message actually. Said that Dabs sounded really nice but with Tizers age and her limited exposure to other animals he didn't want her to be confused. He also said that she loves being the centre of attention so really felt that a home with less animals to share time with would be better.

I'd love to find somewhere for her soon. It must be difficult enough for him deciding what he has without it being so difficult to find just the right home.

Tizer got a bit of interest today, which was great.....until we established the lady is in Glasgow.  :tired: Bit too far for an older lady to travel I guess, especially seeing as the lady had no transport! (She said she was willing to travel, but it transpires she meant by public transport.)

Well the offer of a home here is still open and we are not too far from him so he could even have visitation rights if he wanted. However I am not going to push the issue with him, it is his call. Tried to reassure him that there would be no lack of fuss and laps in this house, but he did not seem too sure which is fine by me, As we all say, if in doubt don't rehome.

Taking into account her age, she may well be better off in a home that is not as busy as ours, although my old man (cat that is, not the OH!) takes himself off into my study and snores away on the chair to his hearts content and the others have learnt to give him a wide berth.

Pity she has not yet found her new home yet, I wish him and her well in their search.

Thanks Dabs - I think he was just concerned she'd be unable to adjust to the amount of animals she'd be sharing her home with if she lived with you. He did comment that you sounded really nice and he had no doubt she'd be looked after, he was just trying to think about it from her perspective I think. He is fond of Tizer, but is fully aware that his lifestyle doesn't really suit having pets.

Great news. :) I spoke to someone about Tizer yesterday and it transpires she went to live with an ex girlfriend of the young man who had her. The ex has always had cats and was happy to care for Tizer.

Feel free to Janey, or I can do it. I wanted MrsR to see it as I know she has a soft spot for this girl. :)
