I have two friendly dogs and an animal obsessed 18 month old son. I would like to add a kitten to my family, preferably via a rescue.
If anyone knows of any currently available i'd be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction. :)

Hi. Glad you're wanting to enter the wonderful world of cat ownership. There are lots of rescues all over the country who are overflowing with cats and kittens at the moment. Either check the CP website or look at the rescue pages on Catchat.
Just to warn you, you may have some problems... As standard, most rescues don't rehome cats to homes with children under 5 although I always find it depends on the individual family. From my point of view, it can work well with level headed, calm people but would definately recommend that you go for a cat who is used to children rather than a kitten for a number of reasons. Kittens can be very playful which means scratchy and bitey especially when they are going through the stage of testing out their teeth and strength so even though they may be very gentle, they may well end up injuring your baby. Kittens can also develop stress and behaviour problems when around loud noises and would get very upset and fed up with even the most animal- friendly child grabbing them which as someone who loves both children and cats, I know that is a natural thing for a child to do. The other thing is, a kitten takes up A LOT of time, they need lots of attention, training and care and can be like having another baby in the house when they are young.
Bringing an adult cat who is used to children into your home could be a wonderful thing for you and the cat. I hope you find something suitable :)

Beth has been in contact with me, but unfortunately I do not have any suitable kittens at the moment. The ones I have are too timid to go with dogs and the one thing my lot are not used to is children (nor am I to be honest :rofl:)and one pair have just returned from a marriage breakup and are slightly traumatised so I do not think it fair to re-home them again at present; they need some stability in their lifes at the moment.

I do keep looking on there, 'tis just finding one okay with dogs/toddlers which is proving a problem. :( shall have a search through a few more pages tonight! :)

Its a shame you're not closer to me, I have 2 large dogs so know which cats are ok and most of mine are great with kids.

Tis a shame, i don't yet drive either, if i did i'd happily plan a trip to wales! :innocent:

I have homed cats further afield but I think you're about 200 miles away from me :tired: Only thing you can do is move closer :evillaugh:

I know.... you think i'd have had loads to choose from, but so far nothing. :shocked: Most of the rescues i've emailed haven't replied, and those i've phoned haven't answered. :( I've been looking at "free to good home" type ads, but i would really prefer rescue back up, at least with a rescue involved if things didn't work out then you've got support.

It wouldnt hurt to visit a few rescues, sometimes emails are genuinely missed due to lack of staff :(
The other problem at the moment will be all the emails that are generated from the "i want a kitten for xmas" crowd

We may have some progress! :wow: I have an email from MT saying they've been trying to ring me (typically on the one day of the year i'm out all day! :innocent:) So i shall be on the phone to them tomorrow. ;D

Don't tell me where in Wales your located because we've moving down early next year.......a big house.....with a big garden.....i wouldn't want to come and visit you just incase :briggin: :rofl:
