Hi Jackie, I do have 2 Siamese but they do have medical problems which we are trying to sort out. They are with Dawn who is kindly fostering them at the moment and they will remain with her until we get them sorted. It may be a long drawn out process, we just don't know but we can keep you informed if you aren't in a hurry.
-
:welcome: to Purrs ;D
Just to clarify D Dawns post, they are with another Dawn ;D
WE have Dawns coming out of our ears hear and they are all great ;)
The two Siamese look wonderful and am sure that if their probs can be sorted they will so loveable........well they are loveable now but just a little ummmmmmmm niffy ;D
-
Fiz and Erick say they are more "fragrant" than niffy :evillaugh:
Yes I am the Dawn fostering the Siamese babes - we aim to confuse ;)
Fiz and Erick are gorgeous and I am hoping we can have their tummy problems sorted soon so they can be homed - just can't say when that will be just yet  - just a case of trial and error with different foods and supplements. I saw your post on Cat Chat and just made a reply - there are some other Siamese kitties looking for a home on the Oriental Planet website - I just happened to go on there and saw them and thought of your post I read earlier (They are in Kent though so its a bit of a trek!)
Welcome to Purrs by the way :Luv: I will no doubt be posting lots of updates on these little ones
-
I've had an email off Jackie about these babes this morning, it seems both Jackie and her hubby are smitten and who can blame them :Luv: I've got her number so I'll be having a chat with her later ;)
-
This could be a match made in heaven? :Luv:
-
oh fingers crossed!
-
We need to get their tummies sorted first so and we're not sure how long this will take but we will keep you posted. I'm going over tonight to see them and I'm going to get lots of piccies in between my cuddles, I can't wait :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
Defo need some more piccies :Luv:
-
ooh Cheese you are lucky having two 'mese's to foster .... they are gorgeous and I love 'mese's.
Fingers crossed you will be able to sort out their dicky tummies soon and they will be able to go and live with Jackie.
I was wondering if you had tried them on Royal Canin "Siamese" food. it's specially developed for the breed.
-
I just mentioned that to Dawn tonight Sam.. mind reader :evillaugh:
I found it on a US site loads cheaper than it is here so I think I will pick some up while I am there for them (of course I will be ending up in a pet store at some point  )
I have taken more "meese" pictures tonight and Dawn has taken some too. I will post them up tomorrow as I am falling asleep at the comp - some lovely ones though. These two are really coming out of their shells - they're so gorgeous!
-
aww, would be lovely to get them a home lined up for when they are ready.
-
I've spoken to Jackie tonight and she sounds perfect :Luv: :Luv: Obviously we want to see what happens with their tummies but watch this space ;)
-
Amazing ;D
-
That would be lovely.
-
I think we've found this duo their forever home :Luv2: Jackie and John both have experience with Siamese cats and wait for it..............Siamese cats with dicky tums  They have a fab vet and are quite happy to give references etc etc. They sound absolutely perfect, John is retired and will be at home in the day to wait on them hand and foot :evillaugh: and Jackie will be working hard to provide them with the life of luxury they deserve ;) Both Dawn and I will be doing the homecheck as I know Dawn would feel more comfortable being involved in the decision as well. This is all to be arranged, so we will keep you posted
-
This is fabulous :Luv:
-
Oh my, what a happy story, I wish they were all like that! :Luv:
-
stunning and gives me a warm glow.....little lucas definately had his paws in this and what a clever boy
-
It does seem like fate really, Dawn is going away next week and I was going to have the pleasure of looking after Fiz and Erick but if they've been offered a home, it may be better rather than all the stress of bringing them up to the mad house to start getting them settled in a new home :) Chances are their tummies will be iffy again once they are rehomed so this way has to be better for them, they will have no more upset as they will go from a fab home into a fab home :Luv2:
-
Woo Hoo so glad the babies have found their forever home :Luv2:
-
i have such a soppy smile on my face reading this!! i cant believe it - this is fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
Dawn and I have discussed this at length and I've spoken to Jackie again. The big day is going to be Sunday evening, I will go over to Dawn's after work and then we'll make our way to Jackie's, we'll be taking Fiz and Erick with us. It's a long journey and although I've only spoken to Jackie and John, I don't think we could find a better home, I'm sooooo pleased for this gorgeous pair and I know Dawn and Phil will miss them but they have a fab future and it's all thanks to my fab fosterers :Luv2: :Luv2: :cuddle: :Flowers: I now need to sort another furbabe out for Dawn and Phil for when they come back from their holidays :evillaugh:
-
:thanks: :thanks: :thanks: ;D ;D :wow: :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
what more can we say. Can't wait until Sunday to get our new babies. I have cried I am so happy.
Thanks to you all soooo much for helping me and John. This is fate..
we are so happy

Sooooooooo happy. Ya right this must be fate. Huge hugs to DD, Dawn, Jackie and John and Sonia for posting on CC.
-
Does Ruthy need the Loo?
Possibly :birth 2: ----------> :need loo: :heeee heeee:
-
I can finally get on purrs after being locked out all last night (withdrawals!!)
Am so glad for these babies, they deserve to be pampered and to get lots of love ;D
Updates are essential of course Jackie... :sneaky:
Phil went in this morning to see Fiz and Erick and this is a new one.. Fiz rubbed up on his leg and gave him a big meow :Luv2: - they haven't meowed at us before (except when being bathed because they dont like that :( ) they are normally a bit scared when you are stood up as they are nervous, so we tend to sit or crouch down when we go into the room, but they are definitely improving ;D
-
Do you still want me to bring some towels up - for your next foster Dawn :naughty:
-
:evillaugh:
Yes please Lesley if you don't mind - I don't think they will be the last poorly tummies we see :evillaugh:
Phil is borrowing a carpet cleaner from a girl in his work who is a volunteer for a local cat rescue so we can clean up after the "meeses" leave - its not too bad but beats me on my hands and knees doing it :evillaugh:
-
I can recommend the Rug Doctor that you can hire from supermarkets etc. I am a regular user
-

thought this might help you:
If you need help resizing your pics the following may help:
http://www.download.com/JPEGCompress/3000-2204_4-10404412.html?tag=lst-0-1
or
Image Resizer for windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
It's the 10th or 11th on the right hand side .. Image resize.
Once installed right click on the photo you want to resize.
Select resize pictures
Select advanced
Select custom
Put in 400 by 300 (sometimes you have to put in smaller figures if it is still too big).
Click ok and it makes a custom photo ready for uploading
You can resize more than one picture at a time by highlighting them all and following the resizing steps above.
The other way is to upload pictures onto www.photobucket.com then just copy the ing code under the pic and paste it into the text box of your thread. If you use this method you don't need to resize the pics ;)

Have they arrived :shify:
-
are they there yet, are they there yet - have patience oh ye waiters...
-
have they arrived, are they settling in .... WHERE ARE THE PICS
-
   I thought we wrer impatient ha ha !! you are all worse than us!! They arrived at nine pm. Boy are they gorgeous!! Yippee, told you santa was coming today. We got them into their bedroom, and settled in, all sat and had some din dins (them included) and kept going up to see if they were ok. Only nervous when you first go in the door, but came and sat on our knees and purring their heads off. Dawn has got some fabby pictures and it seems that little Fiz likes to have her tummy tickled by her new daddy xx. They seem to have given us the seal of approval and we are head over heels in love with them. Dawn left at 11.30 ish and John and I went and sat with them for an hour of rubs, fuss knees and tummy tickles. They were tired so we put them to bed for the night.
As you can see we are still wide awake!!! 0254 pm. Dawn has just phoned me to say she arrived home safely so we are going to have one last cup of tea and then go to bed.
Will update you again in the morning
night night

I arrived home about 2.30 with a numb behind, feeling very tired but over the moon for Fiz and Erick :Luv2: :Luv2: Jackie and John are two of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet and Fiz and Erick are two lucky furbabes to have such a special mum and dad   I know they will give them a fabulous home, I couldn't have asked for anything else for them, they have really landed on their paws ;D They seem to have settled in virtually before we left, Fiz found herself a nice warm spot by the radiator, the heating has been on all day for them so they definitely won't be getting cold tonight ;) Thank you once again for opening your home to this pair of sweethearts, and I hope they give you many years of pleasure, and thank you for making us feel so welcome and the gifts

I meant to post this earlier but forgot with being knackered but thought a few of you would get a chuckle out of it ;) First of all, I need to say a huge thank you to Dawn and Candice as without them, Fiz and Eric may not have arrived in Yorkshire last night :shy: After my trip to Ellesmere Port the other night, my Sat Nav conked out, if anyone knows me, they know I'm useless with directions so doing what I do really does depend on my Sat Nav. I remembered that Candice had one the same as mine and she'd bought a new car with one built in so she was going to sell her other one. Luckily for me she still had it :blow kiss: I rang her up in a panic and big hearted Candice told me I could have it, she is an absolute gem :Luv: The problem was then getting it as I was in work, and Candice was in Preston. Candice arranged with Dawn to meet her in the Trafford Centre to make sure I had it in time to make my journey. Anyway, cutting a long story short, on the way back from Jackie and John's my son put Go home in the Sat Nav forgetting it wasn't my original :evillaugh: All the way home, it gave us different directions to what hubby had given me and we were getting a little peed off with hubby's quotes of "Trust me, I know the roads and where your going", I mean who was I to question him over a Sat Nav ;) We were very tempted to ignore what hubby had told us and were just going to follow the directions we were given.........luckily we didn't :-[ When we were nearly an hour away from home, Craig started laughing and he'd realised the reason we were having to go against where the Sat Nav was telling us is because it was set up to go to Candice's   If we'd have followed the directions, we would have turned up on her doorstep at about 1.45am wondering what the hell we were doing there :evillaugh: :evillaugh: We were glad when we'd sussed it, it gave us a good laugh but made us feel rather stupid
-
  Good morning everyone
day one
Erick and Fiz had a quiet night and we had our last cuddle at 3.30am. Went in at 7 this morning and they both came towards me wanting a fuss. (meanwhile, I was armed with fresh litter, clean towels etc etc. of course I had to fuss first, and then they just watched me as I did their cleaning up. bit runny this morning, but only to be expected after that journey and new home etc etc.)
All clean and freshened up, fed and watered (they are munching away as we speak). I went in on my own while John was having a shower and can you believe it.....Eric was trying to climb on my shoulder!!  me thinks he thinks he's a lion. I wish I was an octapus, I didn't have enough hands!!. blankets and towels in the washer, daddy is on fuss duty while I keep you posted.
I'm a bit pongy now so am going for a shower, so will update you all later in the day.
Thank you so much for allowing us to give these a home.. :thanks:
catch you all later

This is a fantastic ending, makes me smile even at this time of the morning :) Congrats to both Dawns (and Phil of course) and not least to Jackie and John on your new arrivals. What a fantastic ending, can't find a smilie with a big enough grin so this one will have to do ;D
-
This really is fantastic, I'm beaming and for a Monday morning that makes me veeerrrry happy ;D
I'm sure they'll settle down very quickly, and hope their tums settle down soon as well :Luv:
-
All of you involved are wonderful and these two cats have landed on their paws from day one ;D ;D ;D
-
:) here we go then:
Lunch Time Update
Was a weenie bit concerned about Erick (Fiz as well but Erick more) she is a lot stronger than him and has a bit more meat on her (not much on either of them though). every time he moves his bum was running, so just to be on the safe side, I phoned and had a chat with the vet, we are going to take 3 poo samples each into the vets so she can run some tests (just to be on the safe side).. Babies don't have to go see her yet, will wait until we get the results from the poo and then see what she says... chinese laundry is very busy ha ha. BUT.wait for it.........they have both had a little wash (not a bath) and a very light brush and seem happy and purry, and getting nosier by the minute. still keeping them in our smaller bedroom so that they feel safe and while they are still runny. Fiz tries to open the door with her paw and Erick is egging her on from behind . Meanwhile, John and I are on 30 minute guard duty (need to be watched, so we know who's poo is which!!). So its my turn next and just thought I would keep you up to date. Feel very happy and optimistic about these two, so watch this space.
catch you later

Loving the updates!
So glad these two have found the best home.
-
Jackie  sounds like they are being pampurrrred which they will enjoy endlessly! ;D
The first day I had these two little visitors they were the same, constantly runny bums (and I had the washer on non-stop  ) but they really settled within a few days to having soft poos but not constantly running - they didn't seem to be aware they were even doing it at first.
I think it is partly nerves but they will come around fast.
I am so pleased for you, and for them - they have the perfect home now
Dawn xxx
-
Hi Dawn,
I'm sure you are right, Fiz....her tummy is much much better than she was (fingers crossed) Erick...has improved ten fold just in the last few hours. My last turn on fur babe watch, I laid on the floor with them and Fiz came and snuggled near my tummy, Eric watched for all of 20 seconds before he joined her  I was tired and John threw a fleece over me and we all fell asleep!!  I've just come down now after a fuss and change of towels etc and left them both curled up together in the bed in front of the radiator(there's a surprise). It resembles a greenhouse here at the mo, but because of the pooey smell we have to have window open slightly and we didn't want them to feel cold (not much chance of that I can tell you).
John said he feels like old mother riley ha ha he's never done as much washing ha ha.
post later

Hi Jackie
I know exactly what you mean with the washing - I have a five month old kitten "Tarka" who has had a runny bum since he was five weeks old, his story is on the health and behviour board. There's always washing on the go, the fire on full blast and the window open to freshen up the aroma., but they are worth it.
-
I couldn't agree more
-
Hi Jackie, I'm so pleased these little darlings are settling down, in a weeks time, I'm sure you'll see a big difference in the pair of them  I'm glad to hear they're keeping John busy as well, we wouldn't wanting him slacking on his housework :evillaugh: Seriously, everyone is over the moon about their new home and I look forward to plenty of updates and piccies  If you have any problems posting any, if you email them to me, I'll put them on for you. Just going to send you a copy of the piccies as well before I forget :shy:

just been up to see the little ones and they are munching away at their dinner. aw, they are lovely, completely lost count of how long we have spent in their today, ha ha its loverly purrrfect yippee. we just going to have our dinner now ( last nights leftovers Dawn) then we will be back upstairs to keep our new lovelies company.
will update again before bed. & thanks for the pikkies, just going to have a look now

Hi Jackie, John, Fiz and Erick,
Only just caught up with all the pics and "updates" I'm not sure who is happiest you and John or Erick and Fiz but it sounds like they have well and truly got their paws under the table and have most definitely wormed their way into your hearts already :Luv2: :Luv2:
I'm sure after a couple of days their runny bums will settle down and hopefully your vet will have a better idea of what the problem is ... I'm not a vet ... but I do know Siamese's and they are sensitive little souls so it may just be stress and upset that is causing the runs!
The fact that they are getting more noisy and Erick has decided your shoulder is "the place to be" is a sign that they are obviously happy with you. I remember our old Siamese used to love draping himself over my dads shoulders and would often jump from a shoulder onto the top of a door whenever my Dad stopped moving .... he would also go the other way from a door onto a passing shoulder which was a bit of a shock if you weren't ready for it!
Lots of love and cuddles to Fiz and Erick and and very big  and thank you to you and John for agreeing to be owned by these two gorgeous furry purries.
-
Its lovely to hear how settled they are and certainly nice to hear of people willing to help cats through their problems ;D
-
Morning everyone,
Well its day 2 and just gets better and better.
Last night before bed, we went back in one last time and had a fuss and a chat. I had some coco with me (thats what you drink before bed when you are the wrong side of 40) in the end I had to come out, it appears that Fiz is rather partial to the smell and wouldn't leave my cup alone!!. I left Erick and John doing the Male bonding bit (Erick seems to like John to lie on the floor so that he can climb all over him). They had a good night and at 6am were bothe desperately ready for a fuss and some food (in that order). still a bit pooey, but much brighter and definately livlier.
We have just had a breakfast meeting (4th of the morning ) family gathering etc and after much deliberation, have all decided, that past bad memories and things should be left just there, in the past. Time for new beginnings and so the vote is.....Erick has a new name SIMBA (had to be, because of his Lion tendancies). Fiz is now to be known as COCO (that had to be aswell after last night). They have given it the lick of approval, and just to prove they agree, we have just finished a game of pyjama cord killing, (my bottoms nearly ended up round my ankles, both cats chewing and clawing at my strings).
We have also had a good game (and they still are playing by the sounds of things) of Killing the Cat nip mouse. 2 mice are being thrashed about as we speak, and cocoa...in her quest for mouse death, managed to clear everything off the windowsill   not that there was much to clear...but all has gone.
SO to sum up,
Eric and Fiz are now Simba and Coco, still have pooey bums, but not continuous runny bums :briggin: and seem a lot happier and brighter this morning. That means I can go to work with a smile on my face, and John is looking forward to some more bonding with babes today.
That's all for now folks, hope you enjoyed our little update, and hope you approve of the new names.
Love & regards to you all.

I love the new names and they sound like they are very happy to be with you and settling in well ;D

so pleased they are settling in, love the new names!
-
that's great news and I approve of the names - much nicer and more appropriate to their cuddly personalities. I adore Siamese but I seriously admire you for taking on ones that have probs - they are quite challenging enough on their own!!
-
It sounds as if they have got their paws firmly under the table. Love the new names - much nicer. I envy you - I'd love to have a Siamese. Well done for giving them a forever home.
-
Hi folks,
just spent 10 minutes typing the days diary and when I tried to post I had timed out and it was gone, so here is a condensed form.....
Simba and Coco, very pooey, but bright and eating & drinking. Enjoying playing and enjoyng being groomed, although it is like brushing a skeleton :' it seems to be working though, as they are now grooming themselves, which is always nice to see. Purring their heads off as usual and Coco is the one who occasionally speaks....but guess what...Simba said hello tonight!!! he sounds like he has a sore throat(not the usual siamese voice). I could have cried.its the first time he has said anything (purrs all the time but no speak). Taking the poo samples to the vets tomorrow, and still keeping very protective eyes oin them (they have coughed a bit today)???
had fun with daddy today, playing and tummy tickling, and he fell asleep on the floor with them earlier aw bless!!
afraid thats it for now (got a lot of work to do, I have been neglecting it lately....I wonder why!!)
will speak to you all again tomorrow. Thanks for your replies and kind words
Glad you like their names

:Luv: :Luv: It's great to hear all the updates Jackie and you all sound besotted with each other ;D I'm really pleased to hear that they've been playing, Dawn and I were wondering whether they actually knew how to. In a couple of weeks, they will finally put the past behind them and start to enjoy their kittenhood
Can't wait for more piccies :gimme: :waiting:
-
:morning:
5.30 am starving hungry  pongy blankets & towels & trays. Looks like they had a dozen guests in that room last night .
All cleaned up, & refreshed and fed and watered. Then settled down for Major fusses and soft head buts!
Simba squeaked again this morning, Coco quiet at the moment. Still coughing a little, so am intrigued to know why. Poo samples going to the vets today and will be 24 hrs before we get the results, think we might take them in for a check up once the results are back.
They look bright enough though, bright eyes and coat looks better. Have been brushing them both this morning and they have moved their purrs up a notch....now resemble a 747 rather than a light aircraft :briggin: :briggin:
just finishing off breakfast (they are I mean) and so will go up and have a play before shower time.
I will let you know how playtime goes (if I have time before work, if not I will do it tonight when I get home) John not so quick with the typing I'm afraid.
They gave daddy a card yesterday and his eyes all welled up BIG softie!!.
Have taken some lovely photo's but I'm afraid you will have to wait until I have time to TRY to put them on (Sunday will be Photo Day) :-: That will be fun
catch you all later

Glad to hear they are settling in so well. Siamese have a way of weaving themselves into your heart don't they! :Luv:

Evening everyone,
poop samples gone to the vets today (so looking forward to see if or what they find) babies pooing a lot today!! poor John, changing towels and blankets every hour!! he doesn't mind tho!. Both very bright and been playing quite a lot today with John, had a game of kill pyjama cord again this morning and climb the highest up mummy tonight!! i kid you not....Simba was sat on my shoulder!! he pushed Coco off my knee tonight and she growled at him!! girl power or what.. Simba speaks now every time I go in the room, I just wish I had a magic wand to stop the poor babies from pooing all the time, then they could have the run of the house. Daren't let them yet though, its easier to contain any mess in one room.but early days yet.
I will have a go at posting some pikkies on Sunday, but meanwhile will update daily.
thanks for all the encouragement
love to you all :Luv2: :Luv2:

   wasn't ready for that this morning. 6am stood outside their bedroom and could hear them both yelling. Went in as usual armed with fresh towels, food, etcetc. Just as I opened the door....only a couple of inches mind....and whoosh!! 2 bodies made the great escape....It was like something from a carry on film  they had obviously been plotting in the night and come up with a great escape plan .
Anyway all secure again now, but I'm not surprised they wanted out...pooey of WHAT!. It seems Simba is dripping again (no change of diet or anything)??? both still bright, wanting fuss and love (and getting plenty of all that). Think we may have a trip to the vets today.
will post later and let you know what happens.
Love to all

:) Hi everyone,
Just got back from Vets, poo results not in yet, but feel better for having them checked over, they both have ear mites :( so got some drops for that and worming them as well, our vet says she doesn't think it is anything sinister....but will have to wait for results to be sure). Our Vet was sad to see them so thin, and she took Simba to weigh him, bless, poor little man only weighs 2 kg (not good for a puss puss at 15 months old really) NO WORRIES, we will soon have him a little bruiser ;D and her ;D.
They were as good as gold in the car and we sang a little song their and back . Happy as larry now, back in their living quarters although Coco pleaded with John to have another little look around the house
going for some more fusses now.
more later
purrs and tummy rubs from

xxxx ;D ;D ;D ;D

I am sure that once their tummies get sorted they will put on weight fine and do hope that will be soon
I know the problem about great escapes after having two birmans shut in various rooms when they first arrived. One of them scratched up the carpet behind the door so I couldnt get in and they yelled all the time........but all they wanted to do was get to the bedroom and they almost live in it now ;D
They had been shut out of the house and lived in a garage before coming here and one lives on my bed and sleeps with me now ;D
I do hope Simba and Coco settle down and once they are happy and well again they are going to be monsters
-
OHhhhhhhhhhh Jackie they sound absolutly adorable.
Have they been on Royal Canin Sensitivity Control food? it sorted Zebedee's tum/bum out. I so hope these little darlings get sorted, and start to put weight on. Poor little mites.
-
Gail, they've been on the James Wellbeloved and the Royal Canin Sensitive that you and Pav kindly sent over  I'd bought them some of the Hill's Recovery food when I first took them over to Dawn's but they did start to go off it a little bit but when I gave them the Royal Canin Sensitive at Jackie's, they went loopy for it :evillaugh: I'm sure they'll get there in the end, they had a lot going on the last couple of weeks so a dicky tummy is to be expected really.
-
Probably best get get them on the sensitivity pouches for 2 or 3 weeks give ther tums time to settle. it is expensieve nearly £6 a box from the vets but if you go on line to the petpharmacy they are a tad cheaper.
Then gradually wean them on to 'normal' food. These babes are stunning, you are so lucky Jackie. I love their faces such pretty babes. xxxxxxxxx
I'll have a look at lunch time and see if I can find the link.
-
;D thanks for that. They have been bouncing around like a couple of loonies today, poor John looks worn out, ( i got the easy part, i been at work all day). When I got home and went upstairs I shouted "mummy's home" and they greeted me with a little chorus :briggin:. They are eating well and pooing well too ha ha, but bright as buttons. No word on samples yet, but will let you now when we do. Still having difficulty finding the right spot to poo in though (not using trays, well, only for wee wees) not to worry though, we will get there ;D
Thanks for the help with food etc.
catch you later

Hi all,
sorry no pikkies yet (dunno what I'm doing). Dim whit or what!!
Simba and Coco are a bit quiet today, too much excitement this week maybe??They are still coughing and pooing though and they do look bright enough. We are monitoring them very closely, and they are very talkative now(its fab).
Hopefully hear some news form the vets regarding their samples tomorrow. (I'm going to phone them in the morning anyway). So will keep you posted ;D

Simba and Coco are still the same, been a bit quiet for last couple of days and no poo results yet. Going for blood tests tomorrow...please keep your fingers and toes crossed for the little cherrubs :Luv:
will keep you posted.

Have you got the results yet?
-
:'( poo results were clear and so they had blood tests on Thursday. They are 2 poorly pussy cats I'm afraid. They had to be given a steroid injection to ease their breathing, and now they are on antibiotics. They are still pooing like crazy and now weeing for England :'( :'(. Poor little babies, heaven knows how long this (whatever it is) has been going on. Unfortunately our vet has told us, that whatever it is, it does not look good. They are excellent at our practice though and always seem to go one step beyond, if you know what I mean. Just waiting for the results of the blood tests. Will let you know as soon as we get it.
Thanks for asking. Please send some healing vibes for them.
Very sad house at present.

Oh dear that is not good news and please lets hope they have just erred on the side of cautionness and that Simba and Coco will be OK with some treatment

:( ahh so sorry to hea Simba and Coco are still poorly and undiagnosed. Fingers crossed they will pull through OK. Sending lots of love, healing vibes and head rubs to the babies and a big  to you and John.

I am very sorry to hear this news but hope that your excellent vets and your loving care will win out
 to Simba, Coco you and your family.

    to you all, from all of us here. We hope so much that they will be ok. We love them so much and it breaks our hearts, they don't deserve this, and all they want is love and fuss, and a good home. We can give them all of that, and we are giving them all of that, I just wish i could find a magic wand and wave it over them to make them better.
can't thank you all enough, and of course we will keep you all updated as soon as we get the results and some sort of news.
When I came home from work today and read your messages, it made me cry (softie or what). It is so nice to know that you are all feeling this with us!
Thank you

I do hope they prove your vet wrong, fingers crossed for them.

Keeping everything crossed for these two

I hope they soon settle down but I still think some of it is stress related. It's still early days, a couple of weeks isn't long and having a visit to the vets is bound to stress them out as well but hopefully the blood tests will show up something and at least then you will know. I mentioned to John today, it may be worth having a word with the vet and asking about getting them on the Hill's a/d along with the James Wellbeloved. This is a convalescing food, is mild on the tummy and will hopefully get some weight on them. Keeping everything crossed that things will improve. Jackie, I mentioned to John today about Lacto B but couldn't remember the name of it :shy: This may be worth trying as well, a lot of people have had a good outcome with using this

Oh My lord, its FIP. I can't believe this has happened. We are completely gutted. I hate this.
Our vet today said a few months ago they had exactly the same thing with exactly the same breed (same colour point and everything, how wierd is that) and they tried out strong steroids, strong antibiotics and a very strict prescription diet, and the two they tried it on are much better. We have had major discussions with our vets (there's three of them) and have decided to try the same. So for the next 7 days we are going to give it our all and obviously if there is any change for the worse we will then take them to be pts. Im gutted and I don't know what to say.
Just wanted you all to know, at least now we know what it is....life is so not fair :'( :'(

I really really hate seeing those three letters, I do hope your vets are wrong, as there is no conclusive test for FIP. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

Very sorry to hear this Jackie - sending very positive vibes for you all xxx
Can anyone also advise me what I can do to make sure my babes are not at risk - they are not allowed in the foster room and did not meet the siamese, but Doc managed to get in there the other night - bowls, trays etc will be thoroughly disinfected - I must admit I don't really know much about FIP :(

Jackie I am so sorry to hear this you will be in my thoughts lets hope this 7 day regime will work for them too

Really sorry to hear this Jackie  I've only just caught up on this thread.
Have they said for definate that it has gone to full blown FIP or just showing signs of exposure to a Coronavirus?
If the poo sample came back clear... ask them to re-test for Trichomonas. (spelling!?!) You have to specifically ask for the test as its not done as standard. Cost for the test is around £40 (well it is up here)
It seems to be rife with certain breeders and can show up no signs on a regular poo test but can be mistaken for FIP / Coronavirus .
Just about every cat probably has a coronavirus antibody level did they tell you what yours were fro the bloody tests?
Treatment for this is Metradizonal (spelling?!!)... but Stomorgyl contains adequate doses for 10-12mg per kg. A 10 day course of this will start to show signs of improvement if it is Trichomonas. Maybe worth speakign to your vet to see if that would help??? could be worth a try?
We've been down this road with rescued pedigrees quite a lot in recent years.
Good Luck with tests, etc. Really hope that they start to show signs of improvement soon.

I think the breeder said they've been tested for Trichomonas (sp) and they came back clear but she did say it's hit and miss whether it show's up or not so it may be worth having done again. I think it sounds like exposure to the Corona Virus more than anything, I know whilst at Dawn's their tummies weren't distended or anything but not sure how the blood test work and whether they can show up definitive of FIP. They've had problems with their tummies from being kittens and the only tests they didn't have done were the blood tests. The breeder has been informed and I've told her I will be having a chat to Sean about it as well. Fingers crossed the treatment will work and that it is exposure to the Corona Virus rather than full blown FIP. I'll speak to you later Jackie
Meant to add Jackie, I've been onto my vets and asked them to fax all the info through onto yours, hopefully this will help
-
This seems to be quite a good article
http://www.moggies.co.uk/articles/fip.html
but I donit like the bit about the FELV vaccination as it is part of the routine kitten vaccination which most cats have.
Sending positive vibes to Coco and Simba and of course to you and John
Take care and good luck
-
I, like Desley, did not think there was a conclusive test for FIP, have your Vets given a definitive diagnosis Jackie.
This link may be of interest to you.
http://www.moggies.co.uk/articles/fip.html
It also seems strange that both of them should contract FIP as most articles states that it is quite rare for a cat to mutate the FIP strain of coronavirus (only 3% according to the above article.) It also states that if it is FIP rather than coronavirus, that FIP is always fatal which seems strange as your Vet says that they have had cats recover.
I have been fortunate in that I have never had to deal with this awful condition, so my comments are all based on articles I have read. With regard to Trichomoniasis, I feel that this is what Tarka has had/has. His symptoms are very similar to this. He was not tested, as at the time he was in hospital he did get stressed; we managed to rule everything else out and my Vet explained that if he did come back positive there is no treatment anyway, just time.
I think MadKittyRescue's comments are very valid and worth acting upon.
So sorry I cannot offer any more help and that you are having such troubles with these two babes; we fall in love with them so quickly and they can break our hearts so easily.
Sending lots of love and positive thoughts to all four of you.
-
To be honest this is rather shocking to me reading through as they never showed any problems when I had them apart from being nervous and having poorly tummies.
They didn't have a cough, or runny eyes and I never noticed them scratching their ears either - they didn't go out of their room or meet my cats so I am certain they did not catch anything from their stay with me.
-
Just out of curiosity... how old are this duo?
If they are over 2 then (IMHO) I think its very unlikely to be FIP and just coronavirus exposure (and if not trichy). The age groups most susceptible to FIP are under 2 yrs and over 10.
If they have FIP then by the sounds of symptoms it would be wet kind which would show distended abdomen and by that stage they only have days / weeks left. There is no definitive test for FIP. Bloods only test for the number of coronavirus anitbodies in the system, which as I mentioned before every cat has. In some cases a very high marker can also be interpreted by vets as FIP but that may not necessarily be the case at all.
The only test that can be 80-90% more helpful is to withdraw fluid from the abdomen to try to identify which strain of the coronavirus was the problem. They check for colour and protein markers amongst other things. This however doesn't help any really as in order to do this test the cat must be showing full blown FIP symtoms by which time they only have days left.
Also as Lesley says it would be very unusual to have them both develop full blown FIP. They could be coronavirus carriers and suffer from bouts of diahhorea throughout their life. Your problem would be if introducing another cat as you wouldn't know when they were 'shedding' or not so therefore (if it were me) I couldn't risk introducing another cat.
It is a really confusing and difficult condition to deal with Jackie and I would try to gather as many facts from your vet as possible and discuss the various options talked about today.
Good luck in the tests and keep us posted. We have all our fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
-
Just about every cat probably has a coronavirus antibody level did they tell you what yours were fro the bloody tests?
Jackie, so sorry, but I agree with Sara (madkitty) - who helped me enormously recently when I had a scare with one of my oldies Zeta and then my kitten Gwynnie, and FIP, who incidentally tested positive for the coronavirus with very high antibodies of 2,500. That was nearly a month ago now and she's doing fine now, not on meds anymore. I have a multicat household and believe that the coronavirus has been through at least 5 of them.
Although I knew a lot of the theory about FIP - when you get the news of these high anitbodies all that goes out the window and you immediately think the worst - I know I did, but when you know that many cats carry the coronavirus with absolutely no symptoms, or mild symptoms, doesnt mean they will develop FIP. So hopefully its just exposure to the coronavirus, and its likely its going back and forth between the two of them as it sounds like they are very close - spend a lot of time washing each other etc?
This is one of the best sites about FIP http://www.dr-addie.com/ - Dr Addie does a lot of research into FIP and her site is really comprehensive.
-

its just one of those circumstances Dawn where I don't think you can blame anyone for anything. Could well just be the stress of the move and all the extra attention is taking some getting used to (Bet they didn't get fussed over at the breeders!) as well as not feeling too hot.
Cough is quite often stress related as is the runny eyes. They probably need time to settle too ;)
-
 Dawn, with most cats, when they are rehomed they do go through a stressful period, whether they show it or not. With Simba and Coco I do think with the runny eyes and coughing, this is going to be stress induced. In their case especially, the fact their immune systems are compromised anyway, they are going to be more susceptable to illness. They are on treatment at the moment which will help with the coughing and runny eyes and fingers crossed will also help with their illness.
-
Keeping everything crossed for Simba and Coco Jackie, sending big hugs and positive vibes to you all

-
Just out of curiosity... how old are this duo?
They are approximately 16 months old now.
-
I hope Jackie doesn't mind me posting this but I know Dawn is worrying herself silly about whether or not her cats will get FIP. I've just spoken to Jackie as I know a few of you, me included were wondering about a definitive diagnosis of the FIP. Apparently the only true test for FIP is usually sadly once the cat has died and this is then usually confirmed through tissue samples, so it does sound as if these two have got the Corona Virus and not actually full blown FIP.
-
Hopefully that is good news :ahh:
-
That would be great news if its the coronavirus...............ironical that happy for them to have this, but FIP is a certain and painful killer, the alternative is so much better!
I am wishing good thoughts for Simba , Coco and you and hope that all these knowledgeable people are right
-
DD yes that is correct the only 100% for sure way is by post mortem. I refused to let them take Beau. But his was FIP his tum was full of fluid. He had wet form.
I am still praying that this is just a virus and it will pass through them, and they will be ok.
Yes the corona virus mutates into FIP. My vet said that all cats come into contact with this virus and most get upset tum, and the poops, this is what gets rid of it. Others it mutats in to FIP, the more the body tries to fight it, the more the virus grows and takes over the immune system.
But this is NOT going to happen to Simba & Coco. xxxxxxx
-
Keeping everything crossed for these little ones x
-
With the way they are, I honestly think they wouldn't be here today if it's FIP, they have no reserves on them and I think anything they get will knock them for six until their immune system builds up. Hopefully now Jackie's vets have got them on different treatment, they will go from strength to strength  Here's another couple of links but there's lots more information on the internet:

Dawn, I've just spoken to Sean and he said Virkon, Bleach, fresh air and sunlight will kill off the Corona Virus, it doesn't live long in the air so you will be okay

Right get them on a sun bed and take them a walk round the garden.
Your right DD is doesn't last long in the open air, it's all coming back to me, the things my vet said. He said the sameas your Shaun.

Yes, sodium hypochlorite (sp?) bleach (like Milton) is best one to use around cats.
-
This is also quite a good link but can be a bit confusing to read.
http://www.vin.com/proceedings/Proceedings.plx?CID=WSAVA2003&PID=6573&O=Generic
Extract as follows. (FCoV is Feline Coronavirus)
Persistently infected, healthy cats play the most important epidemiologic role in FIP, because by harbouring FcoVs in their intestines and blood, they act as a constant source of infection. Today, the amount and frequency of FCoV shed in feces can readily be quantitated by real-time PCR [7]. The shedding pattern of FCoV in cattery cats is a continuum: while few cats hardly every shed, the majority of cats shed low to intermediate amounts and few individual cats have very large amounts of FCoV in their feces. The difference of concentration between low and very high shedders may be as high as a factor of 1 million. Generally, young kittens shed the highest amounts while older cats shed significantly lower concentrations of FCoV. If one or more "high shedders" are living in a group of cats, the air, food containers and especially litter boxes will be heavily contaminated with FCoV. As transmission is via the fecal-oral route, it becomes clear that the viral load in an individual cat may be affected by the infectious pressure that exists in a group of cats living under crowded conditions.
basically its transmitted by the cats sharing litter boxes and them cleaning their paws and ingesting others faeces / virus.
Dawn - If your cats have had no contact whatsoever with these cats or their litter boxes then I wouldn't worry. Yes, have a general gut out and bleach down in their room (Vikron is good or Domestos). do the rest of of the house if it will make you feel more comfortable. Bleach the litter boxes, bedding and bowls. (I say bowls but Litter boxes are the worst culprit although if these cats have been extremely messy as I know some of them can be and it ends up on the food bowls!) :tired:
From what you have said it is highly unlikely for any cross contamination. (IMHO) ;)
-
Sorry to hear the news  i really think your vet shouldnt have mentioned FIP just because of titre levels. It strikes the fear of god into people and most samples sent Glasgow are not FIP.
-

Being fair, I think if this was Sean, he would have mentioned FIP in the same sentance as the Corona Virus, I think most vets will give you the worse case scenario but I think it's the FIP word that sticks in your head and this is the one that's the killer.
-

My vet was also very quick to mention FIP with both Zeta and Gwynnie - she nearly always gives the worst case scenario - scares me half to death most of the time!
-
i am hoping this is just the corona virus they have come into contact with, and that their immune systems can fight it off. I suppose there is a chance they are carriers and it could flare up in stressful times, fingers crossed the meds help them a lot.
-
Hi folks,
the more I read, the more confused I get. Our vet has spoken to DD's vet today and they are both in agreement. The medication they are now on is the best way forward. DD is right and they only saw him once because it was more advisory (due to him not actually seeing them much!) poor fella. Their poo tests were also tested for Trichomonas?? and came back negative.
I feel very overwhelmed at all of this, and poor John is beside himself with worry (about all of us, when I'm upset I can't sleep, not good for somebody recovering from a stroke!!)
We are so very grateful to DD for advice and reassurance, to Dawn & Phil, for fostering them, and so very very grateful that we have been given the chance with these 2. I can say no more than I have already said really, in that we will do our very best ever to get these 2 babies back on track. We are grateful to you all for your support. We will of course keep you up dated and thanks for the healing vibes...please keep sending them.
Our love and gratitude to you all. Don't know what else to say really, we are staying very positive.
Thanks

Yes its the killer but much rarer then people think, and for the cats to have been ill this long is very unlikely. Same as saying about the other 2 cats they said had it but they have treated. There is no treatment so the other 2 cats couldnt have had it.
I just feel sorry for people who get so worried and stressed that their cats have it, all for no reason. :(
-
No, I think you mis understood me. My vets did not say that the other 2 cats had FIP, they had coronavirus and had been treat successfully.

Oh My lord, its FIP. I can't believe this has happened. We are completely gutted. I hate this.
Our vet today said a few months ago they had exactly the same thing with exactly the same breed (same colour point and everything, how wierd is that) and they tried out strong steroids, strong antibiotics and a very strict prescription diet, and the two they tried it on are much better
Easily misread! :naughty:
-
Oh forget it. I;m stressed enough. I dont need this

MM, in your rush to prove your point, you appear to have overlooked that the original purpose of this thread was to provide support for Jackie and her family in taking on the care of these babes. I am sure on reflection, you will do the right thing.
-
How are the two tykes today? Any improvement at all?
-
Not as yet, thanks for asking, but they are loving their new diet! Royal Canin Intestinal. Looks a bit like broken bits of choccie!
I had to really persuade Simba to eat his breakfast this morning (he knows it has medicine in) still coughing...but we live in hope. :-:
Thank you
x
-
Jackie, just to add my love and support to you, Simba and Coco again. Blip, on her adoption day, is hunched over my keyboard as if to add precious feline thoughts to you and the boys.
It would behove us all to remember the stress Jackie is under and to give her support in Simba and Cocos hour of need. Thanks.
-
Glad to hear the babies haven't lost their appetite .... it's always a good sign if they are still stuffing their faces.
Take care of yourself Jackie and try not to worry too much (yes I know that's so easy for me to say) but like BC says you are no good to the furry purries or John if you make yourself ill
Take care hun
<^..^>
-
Only just caught up with this, sending lots of prayers and positive vibes your way.

Hi Jackie, I don't know anything about the conditions that have been discussed so cant offer any advice. I would though like to say I am thinking of you all and sending positive vibes from myself and Leo and Lawrence   hope things improve soon.

Like Sam said Jackie if they are eating that has got to be a good thing, I don't know anything about any of the conditions mentioned so I can't comment but wanted you to know we are all rooting for all four of you!

-
Hi Jackie, hope all is well and that the babes are doing their best to limit their 'creative' efforts to the right place ... Any updates from the vets?
-
Hi all,
medicine going down ok, poo has mainly been in the tray (only twice all over bed, and I think it is Coco) this morning she was paddling about in the trays (now 3 in there!) and Simba shoved her out and did a poo as if to say LOOK this is how you do it   but fell on deaf ears, never mind we will get there hopefully. His eyes are dare I say it...good today, hers not so good, all gued up. both very bloated tummy and still coughing. We are just giving lots of love, grooming and fussing and telling them how loved they are :Luv: it's all we can do, keep them clean and medicated and fed and live with our fingers crossed :) this is the 3rd full day of medication and Rome wasn't built in a day was it? Vets are phoning us tomorrow for an update. That's all I can tell you at the moment. Just taking one day at a time.
As usual, grateful to you all for your support and kind words, can't tell you how much it has helped.
Thanks
If I ever get to grips!! I will post some more pikkies. Haven't a :censored: clue how to do it though, don't even know where to start   :-: :-[

Hi there,
Progress report..........
6am - breakfast and medicine served, litter trays used and NOT ONE accident anywhere. don't know if I want to shout yippee (or more to the point I don't know if I dare!)......AND........poo is definately thicker and not runny and slimey. Perhaps there is lots of help coming from the bridge and our other babies?? I do hope so.
I will email some pictures to cheesecat when I get home from work tonight and she is a darling and going to put them up for me.
Will let you have more progress report tonight.

Lets hope they are on the up now?. We have to say, we are just taking each day as it comes, but do feel quietly hopeful, Lets just hope you are all right and we have turned a corner (in the right direction).
Sorry, not very talkative tonight, not been home that long and am absolutely pooped  no pun intended.

Night Night all  and :thanks: for everything

Hope they will be evn better when I come back on Sunday
-
;D good morning,
We have poo that looks like poo today :cheer: both were crying pitifully at 5.30 obviously starving!! had medicine and I am even going to say their fur feels a lot better. It looks a lot better too and is lying better if you know what I mean ;) John put their stockings under the tree yesterday and that made us both cry, with happiness of course. Will see what today brings, but we are VERY hopefull, we can't believe the difference in just a few days, and bums are still a bit sore looking but no longer look raw.
Now that they have stopped with runny bums, we are going to open their door so that they can have a bit of an explore, and then can go back to the safety whenever they want to. They already have checked out the upstairs rooms though (due to escaping when I go in with the breakfast tray!) this morning Simba was sat on the toiled lid and Coco was thinking of venturing into the bath  (it was empty, I hasten to add).
More later
Love to you all

how exciting!! You must be thrilled!!! :wow:
Glad I am not the only person in Britain awake at this hour
-
Thats grand news :)
You must have an army of folk and furries rooting for you
-
I'm keeping everything crossed over her that this is the positive turning point we've all been praying for
-
What excellent news hopefully they have turned the corner and are on the road to recovery. Personally I think it's a great idea to let them explore the house as this will also help them to feel more settled .... however comfortable they are in their room it must be a bit unerving for them to be able to hear noises from the otherside of the door and not really have any idea of what is going on! I'm sure in no time at all they will have found the best seats in the house (or the bed) and made themselves well and truly at home. :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
That sounds brilliant Jackie! I'm so pleased for you. now they have hopefully got out of the cycle of runny poos I'm sure they will come on in leaps and bounds, and you will able to relax a bit (or possibly collapse with relief LOL! - I know how that feels having gone through a trauma with my kitten recently!!).
-
Am glad to hear a positive outcome, fingers crossed it is the start of their improvement.
Gail - diarrhea is listed as one of the (many) symptoms of FIP, and it was one of my neighbours cats symptoms - although Tig didn't have it either. It is just one of those illnesses that has many symptoms and cats dont have to have them all for it to be that.
-
This sounds good and leyt it continue and get even better
-
Hello folks,
sorry not been in touch for a couple of days, we are completely  busy at home, busy at work!!. Simba and Coco have taken over the house....now there's a surprise  Still got good poos and no more sore bums, not coughing as much now either Thank God!!, pot bellies still. We spoke to our vets again today and we are taking them in for her to check them out and things on Thursday morning, but meanwhile.... they seem happy enough and John woke up in the middle of the night because he said he was in a funny position   Simba was laid at the side of him and Coco was inbetween his legs . They seem very settled and MUCH happier, fur is looking and feeling good and eyes bright (Coco still a bit guey), had to stop Simba from eating the Christmas tree...but they haven't attacked it and that's a good thing .
We are so grateful to each and every one of you for you support. We have found it very stressful and upsetting (obviously), we aren't celebrating yet but we are a lot more optomistic. We couldn't have done it without you all. It is so nice to know that we have a lot of new friends....And on that note,we would like to wish you and your families both furry and human the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER.
Hope Santa Paws is good to you all.
Take care
Love from all at our house

Wishing you John, Coco and Simba a wonderful Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2008.

Simba and Coco have landed on their paws and sound like they are now making the most of it
A very happy Christmas to all of you ;D

so nice they have found electric blankets that sleep in odd positions!
I hope there are many more nights like that for you all and just take a painkiller when the back pain is bad in the morning!
Sleeping with 12 sure means we sleep in odd ways but so long as they are comfortable I hope they keep improving and good luck at the vets!

Here is the picture - sorry for the late arrival... I haven't been online properly for a few days ;D

Aw, they are gorgeous :Luv:
So pleased the progress is still coming, I'm still keeping everything crossed that it continues to them being fully better :Luv2:
Hope you enjoy your first Christmas in your new home Simba and Coco ;D
-
Merry Christmas Jackie and family, hope you continue to enjoy the blessings of the season!!
-
;D ;D Merry Christmas everyone, Simba and Coco have had a great day, their tunnel (bought at auction) never arrived, but they have enjoyed playing in the empty boxes and wrapping paper . They are sleeping just now, think they have worn themselves out today!. John and I have had a fabby day too and we got some fabby presents from them. They have both decided that as much as they like their cat sofa to sleep on, the big bed in the big room with the curtains around it is MUCH more comfy  .
They have been great today, bums good, poo good, eyes bright (both of them) and we even think they are starting to put a bit of weight on.
Yippeeee
bye for now, and thanks to Dawn for putting the pikky on.
more to follow (John got a new camera for Christmas and is going to have a practise)
love John, Jackie, Simba and Coco

That sounds so encouraging, Jackie :wow:

Hi all,
we seem to be having a bit of wobberly leg syndrome today, i first noticed early this afternoon, but I thought they had just lost their footings, but this evening it has progressed into can't quite reach the sofa!! :censored: will see how they are and they are going to the Vets anyway in the morning...PLEASE let me just be being paranoid and it is nothing else.
xxxxx
-
Jackie, Ive been following your story with these 2 beautiful babes.
I was very pleased to hear progress was being made and soo hope everything is ok at the vets tomorrow. Will be thinking of you all x

-
Fingers crossed it is nothing.
-
;D Hi,
Just got back from the Vets and they are thrilled to bits with the babies ;D. Chests are nice and clear, eyes good, and they have both put weight on :cheer: Simba is now 2.9 kilos and Coco is now 2.7 Kilos. Wow thats fantastic. We are to reduce the steroids gradually now and keep them on the antibiotics, then we have to go back next Thursday, when we will reduce the steroids again (gradually). It is looking very positive though (still have quite a way to go with them) but at least we are heading in the right direction.
We also paid the bill OUCH! never mind they are worth it 1000 times.
It pleases us greatly, to share our good news with you all.
Thanks for being there for us
lots of love, from a very happy house
;D ;D ;D ;D

Jackie that is wonderful news, I hope they continue to thrive in your care!

great news - well done all!! ;D
-
Fantastic, I am so pleased ;D
-
So pleased CoCo and Simba have both put on weight and are getting better ... I assume the "wobbly leg syndrome" was nothing serious (sounds to me like they were probably just being "pathetic" so Mummy and Daddy would pick them up :briggin: )
All foreigns can be very manipulative and as you know Siamese's are the master's of getting their slaves well and truly wrapped round their paws
Big hugs to you all
-
 boy you are not kidding.!! Vet said I have to try not to be too paranoid ha ha
They both got into bed with me last night and John got his new camera!!! and took an ace pikky, my new years resolution is to learn how to put pikkies on here

Fantastic news Jackie, I'm really pleased they are getting better each day :) :) Give them both a big cuddle from their Aunty Dawn's and I hope they keep improving  I bet John doesn't know what to do with himself in the day now he's not got all his washing to do :naughty:
-
fantastic news Jackie... sending lots of hugs and purrs from us lot here in Fife.
Long may it continue! :)
-
;D Hello everyone,
thanks for all the messages and support. Just to update you all...Simba and Coco still doing good and we seem to have no problems (so far) in reducing the steroids. They are bouncing around like a couple of nutters at this very moment  John is a bit upset though :'( when I sit down they both jump on my knee and want a hug)...they seem to be avoiding John like the plague though...he said its because they see him as the big bad man that puts them in their basket to go to the vets  poor John.
Can't tell you all how relieved we feel!!
Thanks again for everything
I have been given fool proof instructions on how to put pikkies on, so I will have a go tomorrow.....watch this space

Yes it worked and they look great ;D
-
:Luv2: wow they are gorgeous!!! They really are and what a credit to you after all the medical problems!! I love Siamese cats, my last wee man was Balinese and I would love another Siamese or Balinese once I get over missing him.
Congratulations - they are gorgeous

this was the night we got them
-
Goodness they were all over you from day one - but clearly very bonded to each other as well
:Luv:
-
Dont they just love each other ;D
My birman boys do that and its the blue point who loves the seal point, but the seal point likes to lie on his brother
-
They are just adorable - love them - and they are clealry very close!
-
Morning all,
yes they are very close, it's lovely isn't it? not like our last 2 siamese  Casper was a lilac point MONSTER and little Mishka was seal point little lady. Casper hated her with a vengence!! and she was scared stiff of him, we managed ok though but had to constantly watch them and separate them completely if we went out of the house!!
So seeing Simba and Coco being so close is adorable :Luv2:. We have had a bit of loose poo this morning, so will obviously keep an eye on them and see if we can see who's it is!!. They spent the night tucked up together behind John's legs last night, and when they wanted to get us up they threw themselves at the dressing table and scattered its contents all over  Typical orientals rooling the roost eh?
John's going to do a bit of David Bailey with his new camera today so we will post some decent pikkies later.
Have a good day all and  from all of us here to you and yours
Love Jackie John Simba and Coco

Happy new year to you all

how are they doing Jackie?
-
Hi Dawn and everyone else! ;D
They are not doing bad, but we have had a bit of a relapse :'( poo has got softer and sloppier and we just thought it was the reduction in steroids. Well IT IS the reduction in steroids and so we have had to increase their dose again...We aren't sure really what this means, we will have to keep them on the higher dose again for 10 days and then review it again (unless they get any worse and in that case it will be reviewed much quicker!!). BUT...they are happy enough and bright enough and no more old troubles have reared their ugly heads yet...THINKING POSITIVE ;D. We were due to go to the Vets with them again today but due to the snow we didn't go and just phoned them and told them what was going on and they advised over the phone. Better for the cats anyway not to have to go back in the basket again. So fingers crossed, and we will just have to see how things go. John got some lovely pikkies, and I will put them up at the weekend (he's got to suss out how to put them on computer yet!!).
Keep you posted and thanks for asking
Love Jackie John Simba and Coco
xxxx
-
I hope this is just a temporary relapse and that things will progress to being better again.
I am sure not going to the vets will help cos less stress. Siamese are such sensitive souls and they have been through so much recently
-
Yes, I am sure you are right, so fingers crossed and all that!.
Meanwhile, they have really made themselves at home and both sleep with us each night now. Although they have plenty of other beds (they use them during the day)!! They have both completely taken over the house! aw bless them.
More pikkies soon
have a nice day all

AWWW Bless them, I hope next time the steriods are lowered their little bums stay solid.
can't wait to see the new photos. Yes if you want the best seat in the house move the cat :) it's nice to share your bed with a kitty or two. A bed is not the same without a kitty in it.
-
Aww, fingers crossed for them.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed that they are feeling better soon after their little "blip" xxx

;D Hi all,
todays report is as follows:......Simba and Coco poo is firmer (now steroids incrreased), bright and happy and chasing eachother around constantly....have taken over the house completely   got to go to vets for a check up on the 14th and obviously see what is what with the steroids??? John has got some lovely photos and has now put them on the computer BUT.....I am now having difficulty with photobucket....I can't seem to upload the pikkies...will try again and if I can't do it, then I will ask my faithfull helpful friend Gill sneakyfeline if she can help.
will try in just a minute.

Jackie, is the prob you are having with photobucket that it takes forever to load them? I sometimes find this and if I cancel and start over it goes through much quicker the second time. Fabulous pix btw.
-
Jackie they look absolutely wonderful now they have put on a bit of weight and they look sooo chilled. You and John and your vets have worked wonders on these two special furbabes and they are clearly repaying you with lots and lots of love and cuddles :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

give them snuggle from me. xxxxx
-
Jackie they look fantastic I'm so glad they found you!
-
 thanks all for your kind comments. I am so glad we found THEM!! DD is the star for allowing me and John to be their slaves ....we won a prize on cat chat x mas raffle and it should have been a pop up tent but apparently their is a problem with them so they sent us a donut bed instead.... it arrived today and the babies have tested it out and they aren't sure if they approve or not....need a bit more sleep in it yet!! just needs to be a bit nearer the radiator . They are good again today and we are happy all of us.
more later, take care all of our friends
love from us four
xxxx ;D
-
   ... do they have a radiator hammock? I'm sure they would love that.
-
Have you been sent wrong prize Jackie, please pm me and take it off forum
-
Yes they have 2 radiator hammocks ......but like to lay together in one   which is ok at the moment because they are still lightweights!! . I bought them a crinkle bag today (like an overgrown tea cosy with a mouse in it, makes a crinkly noise). they are both rolling around in it right now ....me thinks I will have to move it before bed time or John and I will not get any sleep!!
-
Jackie I hope they are never as weighty as our Trude (who is only a little bit snugglier than she should be ;) ) she bends the radiator in her bed
-
 oh they are so funny aren't they!!. John nearly had a dicky fit today, Simba and Coco were having a face off, growling and flicking tails at eachother....but they were both perched on the top of the telly!!!! wouldn't mind but it's only about 2 inches wide if that   Both good again today and happy as larry.
which is very pleasing of course ;D

siamese do have a talent for walking around the most fragile things without breaking them. Having said that, most of mine were just incredibly clumsy!!

 yes and the ones we have owned previously have been very clumsy as well,. I like that look they give you as if to say WHAT!! it wasn't me!!
-
I think what they are really saying is, what possessed you to put that where you KNEW I was going to be walking!!   Remember Jackie - it is ALWAYS your fault

 yes and the ones we have owned previously have been very clumsy as well,. I like that look they give you as if to say WHAT!! it wasn't me!!
Oh Jackie, how funny!
I've been following this thread since the start and I must say it's been fantastic to see these two cats end up with their paws firmly under the table. :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:
Never mind the TV or ornaments, Pearl has taken to mincing through my cactus collection. One wrong step and... :awch:

Aww, glad to see them looking well and being so happy - looks liek the vet was definitely wrong about FIP.

Looking forward to lots more positive updates! :)

YESSSSSSSSSSS :Luv: :Luv: and no one could be more please than us who have experienced it.
It was Beau's 4th Anniversary yesterday - 4 years since that disqusting evil virus took him from me. So to hear that these babes are going from strength to strength is fabulous. And that the vet was wrong with his diagnosise is just the best.

Evening everyone,
just to keep you up to date. We have had a real laugh with Simba and Coco today....well we do everyday but today just made us both laugh . Ok call me a saddo...but I really enjoy sunday lunch, and I really enjoy cooking it....so cut a long story short, we were almost ready to put yorkshire puddings in so I got pudding tin out and put some oil in each compartment....thought I would give it 5 minutes and then put oil in the oven to heat up. Went and sat with John for only 3 minutes.......meanwhile, Simba is licking the pudding tins like mad and is all covered in vegetable oil!!!  the little :censored: I heard a noise and John and I looked at eachother  got up and went in the kitchen to find him on the worktop trying to look innocent :innocent: ha ha. It will serve him right tonight if he has a runny tummy little monster ha ha. We are going to the vets for a check up at 4.30 tomorrow. So will post again them and let you know how we got on.
cheers for now

Well done Jackie and John on all the work you've put in with these two.
I love the fact they've taken over your lives so well and truly like they should :Luv2:
This story did make me giggle though. I thank the lord every day that Lexy can't climb high or my kitchen counters would be overrun with little paw prints!

  oh that's the joy of living with such intelligent furbabes ... there's nothing funnier than watching two naughty 'mese's plotting their next campaign of mischief!

Sounds like they are doing well, and good luck for the vet app

At least there is no danger of him having a furball :evillaugh:
Sounds like they are well on the mend :Luv2:

Howdy folks,
vets trip a success. ;D She is very pleased with the two and we are now reducing steroids again (hope it works better this time). Both have gained weight again, Simba weighs in at 3.5 kilos and Coco weighs in at 3.2 kilos. ;D both are very happy and bright....and we didn't have any problems...not even after stealing the cooking oil  .
I would like to share something with you all.....I didn't want to say before as I don't have any experience what so ever in this area......and may still be completely wrong...so if I am then just put it down to being the wrong side of 40 and things  . A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking that Coco wasa looking a little round in the belly department, she is now even rounder in the belly department  but I did say to John that I thought she might be pregnant (never had a cat that was preggy before, previous females have always been spayed). DONT BE SILLY, was Johns reply!!.........so last week when I spoke to Diddy Dawn, I told her...........and today when we went to the vets....as soon as the vet saw her she said.....SHE LOOKS PREGNANT!!!!! anyway she had a feel and can't feel anything.....so called in vet number 2 who also said....OH SHE LOOKS PREGNANT!!!.....she also had a feel and can't feel anything........ they are both (and so are we actually) hoping that she is NOT pregnant...what with all the steroids etc that they have had over the last few weeks.....BUT...we will have to watch this space.....going back to the Vets 2 weeks from today (so they can have another feel|)  oh dear....lets just hope she's having a little phantom pregnancy poor little lady!! what ever next!!
-
My goodness I thought they were boys!
I cant remmber how long you have had them and the two Dawns before you but wouldnt she have been calling at some stage?
Arent they both neutered?
Well I am pleased that they are both doing well and hope that she is not pregnant ;D
-
Simba is the boy and is nutered. Coco is the little lady and she obviously isn't spayed  . We got them on 2nd December and I believe Diddy Dawn took them to the other Dawns and they were there 5 days??...they came straight from whoever to Dawn....so if she is pregnant...it must have happened at her original owners????Oh Heck I hope not!!
xx
-
Glad the vet's visit went went and the babies are gaining weight (let's just hope Coco has been stuffing herself rather then carrying kittens  ).
How do they tell if she has been spayed ... can they shave her and see if she has a scar?
-
Oh well we are going to have to wait and see then ;D
Of course they came from a breeder didnt they?
-
Yes Gill, they came from a breeder. Sam, I am not sure how they tell if she has been spayed or not. Diddy dawn told me that she hadn't been spayed though. So yes you are right, and we will just have to wait and see. ;D
-
Oh dear ... this site might help you: http://www.pusscats.com/Cat_Pregnancy.htm
-
Glad they are both doing well :Luv: After speaking with you last week Jackie, I did have a chat with the breeder again and she said it was impossible that she is pregnant as she hasn't been near any other cats but, I honestly wouldn't want to rely 100% on anything she tells me :sneaky: Hopefully it is just a phantom, if she isn't pregnant which I'm hoping she isn't and she isn't calling, if cats aren't 100% healthwise, not all of them have a season until they are fit and well so I wouldn't worry too much. The chances are if she has been checked and the vets can't feel anything, it will be a phantom as at this stage, they would be easy to feel. She definitely isn't spayed, she wasn't done because of her health problems and for her sake, it was better that she was in better health before going under the knife. I would get her checked again soon and if she's up to it, I would get her booked in........phantom pregnancies can make them ill which is the last thing you need.
-
:thanks: for that. I do hope you are right  will obviously keep you posted though
xx
-
Maybe I being daft but how do you stop em getting a phantom pregnancy?
-
No idea at all
x
-
Before I got involved in rescue, I thought my cat Molly was pregnant and when I took her to the Vet, the Vet said "she should produce kittens in approximately two weeks". Three weeks later we went back to the Vet and she was not pregnant, it was a phantom, so they can fool the experts as well (the vet, not me). Hopefully it is just a phantom Jackie but glad to hear they are doing so well. I'm so happy for you and jealous as well :-[, makes me think of my Pagan :(
-
Maybe I being daft but how do you stop em getting a phantom pregnancy?
Getting them spayed ;)
-
The other thing I was thinking is this could possibly be wind, I know that sounds daft but I had a youngster here that was constantly bloating up and when Sean squeezed his tum, a load of gas came out
-
Fingers crossed she isn't pregnant - phantom pregnancies aren't that common in cats, unlike dogs. If she hasn't shown any signs of being in heat, that could be due to pregnancy.
-
ahhhh right , I wondered if that would Dawn ;D
-
I think with her being underweight and her general health Des, I doubt very much she has ever had a season. When Sophie was really poorly, it took a good 6 months after the illness for her to come into heat, I knew then she was well enough to go through a spay. I would think like humans, they would have to be fit enough to carry babies, when a woman isn't in good health, underweight etc, her periods are likely to stop and this is the bodies way of telling you, your body isn't in good enough shape for pregnancy. You have to remember, these cats have been poorly for the last 15 months, I suggested to Sean about getting Coco done before she went to Dawn's but we decided it was best to wait. Even though I can't say 100% she hasn't been near a tom cat, I really don't think she will be pregnant.........if she is, the tom cat must have had a very strong nose as the smell of these cats when I picked them up was   ;)
-
I'd have thought that of she was 6 weeks or more, the vet would have been able to feel something!
Baggsy a kitten for me if she is - I'd love a siamese!!
-
Baggsy a kitten for me if she is - I'd love a siamese!!
If she is which I'm praying she isn't, there is a good chance these kittens will have problems because of the medication and if they are okay, there's a good chance they will also carry the Corona Virus. We have traced this back to the mum cat of Coco and Simba and it seems poor Pagan also mated with their mum :'( I'm going to have a chat with Sean tomorrow because I do also think if she is, the kittens would easily be felt at this stage. Simba was neutered a good while ago, this was also my concern in case he had mated with her but the breeder assures me he was done a good few months ago, again I'm going to double check with Sean.
Jackie, I would ask the vet to check for gas in her tummy, because of their recent change in food, I would think this is highly likely.
-
Hey Dawn,
If she is which I'm praying she isn't, there is a good chance these kittens will have problems because of the medication and if they are okay, there's a good chance they will also carry the Corona Virus.
Not necessarily. If memory serves me correctly it isn't passed in the womb and the kittens can only be affected with direct contact to mums poo!! If kittens are taken off her after the first few hours they should be fine (obviously to give them time to get the colostrum sp??)
Obviously more work for you as you have to hand rear. THis was the scenario for us when we had issues with the virus in the past.
Great news to hear they are doing so well tho... fingers crossed she isn't preggers tho! :-:
-
oh Jackie! I hope she isn't poor thing must be exhausted from just living - hopefully it is just a bad case of wind!
-
Not necessarily. If memory serves me correctly it isn't passed in the womb and the kittens can only be affected with direct contact to mums poo!!
I had a chat to one of the other vets the other day and he did say it was possible that Simba and Coco had the virus passed on via the placenta. Re handrearing, I wouldn't be into this at all I'm afraid unless the kittens were rejected. I would hate the idea of a mum having to go through all the hassle of giving birth, to have her babies swiped at the end of it, that is my personal opinion, I think where possible, the babies should be reared by mum.
Modified I've just looked at a couple of sites and that's the only way I can see for transmisision is the foecal/oral route :-: It looks like this vet got it wrong :sneaky: This is probably how breeders get away with continuing to breed when the queen is a carrier which just seems totally wrong in my opinion. I think mum's and kittens should be together and if the mum is a carrier, she should be spayed but alot of breeders are just in it for the money :sneaky:
-
;D well we will just have to wait and see won't we. ;D had a good day today again and found some more nice sleeping quarters (wardrobe and airing cupboard). By the Way Diddy Dawn, Simba and Coco resent the fact that you implkied they didn't smell very nice   and challenge you to come and have a sniff for yourself now then......roses spring to mind  .
post some more pikkies at the weekend

I agree Dawn... in a rescue situation tho... I'm sure you know its not always possible but we do try to keep them with mum. The instances that we had we had no choice as they came in preggers and were plastered in poo from one end to the other. We couldn't leave kittens in that... she wasn't cleaning herself let alone the babys. But despite taking the kittens away we lost most of the kittens which was put down to the extremely poor condition of the mothers prior and during pregnancy. It was made worse by the fact that we also nearly lost the mothers after the pregnancy as it all proved too much strain on their systems and were critically ill for several weeks before starting to return to health.
From a breeders stand point I (personally) think it is highly irresponsible to breed from highly infected cats with FCoV and as you say... that is when it seems to be more about the money than anything else. I know of a few breeders who have problems but deny it publicly and probably aren't doing anything about it either!
At the end of the day I think if you have a problem like this you can't realy ignore it... and if you don't notice well then you're in the wrong job!!!
Sadly it is very true that there are a good proportion that are in it just for the money and how they get away with running what are almost kitten farms is beyond me!
Jackie - Great to hear that they are both doing grand. I take it that the vet has confirmed the belly isn't a fluid build up?? (that's what I'd be afraid of).
-
I know the mum of Simba and Coco has just had her last litter, she is being spayed and rehomed and I'm currently trying to find somewhere for her. At least that's one less cat for breeding, just have to work on the others then :tired:
Looking at one of the sites on Corona, it was aimed at breeders and how to overcome the kittens catching it, I think this is totally wrong and bloody annoyed me, what they need to be stressing is getting them done and hopefully eliminating the problem. The breeder I'm dealing with has sort of addressed the problem but only with me drumming it into her, I'm hoping in the future, most of her cats will be done and rehomed ;)
-
Aww hopefully you’ll find a home for the mom cat!
-
I am working on someone at the moment :naughty:
-
I wonder who that could be . I'm in turn working on somebody, but you don't have to do the work I do :naughty:

Poor mum and babies :'( :'( In this situation, you can only do what your best and sometimes that isn't even good enough :'(

There will always be people out there who 'learn' how to 'get round' a disease or situation and share with others. :tired: I think it should be down to the morals of the person to decide whether or not to jeopardise the lives of their cats for 'money' But do agree with you that it is the wrong attitude and more should be done to stop breeding where the problem is severe as in the case of Simba and Coco.
I think though that until that happens folks like us will have to pick up the pieces!! :tired:
-
I hope that means what I think it means lesley!
-
Dawn F, do you mean Dawn working on me, or the work I am having to do
-
I'm assuming she is working on you and you are working on oh, hope I'm right!!!!
-
Mum cat would be a bit of risk to put in a multicat home wouldnt she?
-
In multicat households and especially rescue environments, corona is probably present in about 40% of cats if not more. Unless rescues tested all cats that came in for corona, which in itself is financially limiting, you can never guarantee that it will not be present. I think if everyone tested their own cats, they would be surprised as to how many have actually got it. In most cases it doesn't cause a problem, I think there's a possibility in 3% of cases that it can mutate into FIP.
-
Also, not all cats are shedders of the virus... and you've no real way of knowing who is! If you take a cat on you know to be FCoV positive then I think you just have to be aware of the ins and outs and any risks associated with them. :)
-
I'm in turn working on somebody, but you don't have to do the work I do :naughty:
I think I know what work that involves :oolala: :evillaugh:
-
thank goodness they are that predictable!
-
I know fcov is widespread but to put a cat thats known to be a virus shedder (different to the average cat who encounter the corona virus and become immune to it) into a home that has vunerable cats and kittens seems riskier than average.
From Dr Addie:
If you have kept a kitten in isolation for many weeks and his or her antibody titre has not decreased and you are absolutely unable to keep the kitten, he or she should only be rehomed to a household with NO OTHER CATS (although one could rehome two antibody positive kittens together). The new owner should be fully informed that the kitten might be shedding FCoV and so could be infectious to other cats, and carries about a one in ten risk of developing FIP, which the stress of rehoming could precipitate. Encourage the new owner not to stress the kitten unduly (see also the Prevention of FIP section). For example, it would be best if neutering were left until the kitten's antibody titre has considerably decreased; get the new owners to get the kitten fed in his or her home rather than being put into a cattery; don't give a lot of vaccines at one time.
It also mentions that breeders can and have been prosectued for selling kittens infected with fcov, may be worth telling Simbas/Cocos breeder this to help encourage her to get her cats sorted out. ;)
-

Does this mean that all breeders have to have their studs and queens checked for this before breeding? With any adults she knows have problems, these are the ones I'm helping with so she's not actually selling them. There are a couple of others there that I'm getting spayed for her and apparently no problems with them so I'm hoping all her cats will be done by the time I've finished, and rehomed as pets.
-
MM in a perfect world it would be lovely to re-home an FCoV cat in a sole environment but, unfortunately, most people in rescue do not work in a perfect world.
Dawn works harder than ANYONE I know in rescue and deals with far more cats than I could ever cope with. She struggles every day to find any homes for these furbabes let alone perfect ones. Plus, when dealing with rescue, one day you can take in a stray cat that you have no history of whatsoever. Why does this cat get more of a chance because you know nothing about it, than one that you actually have some history of.
If I can help her in someway by taking one cat into our home to ease the pressure on her, I will endeavour to do it. I do not put my cats at unnecessary risk, all precautions are taken with regard to isolation and hygiene. But when you get into the world of rescue, life becomes 100% cat and whether the cats are found on the streets or you are dealing with a less than perfect breeder, the cats are one and the same and need help. Dawn NEVER says no, she helps anyone and everyone. If I could be 10% of what she is, it would not be enough so, please do not have a go at us rescues if we cannot always place the cat in the most perfect home, at least we are trying.
-

It didnt elaborate any further than saying there have been successful prosecutions under trade acts and prevention of cruelty acts :-:
Google may hold the answer to that one.
Good luck, i hope you manage stop these lines soon :luck:
Lesley it wasnt a dig at rescues efforts, i was just mentioning my concern at placing a known risk in a multicat home. I wouldnt do it with a flu carrier or felv, these are as contagious as fcov.
A siamese will always find it easier to get a single home than a mog because of their wow factor, look how lucky simba and coco have been with their new owners. They got chose cos of their breed so i dont think Dawn would particularly struggle in placing mum cat :shy:
-
Plus, when dealing with rescue, one day you can take in a stray cat that you have no history of whatsoever. Why does this cat get more of a chance because you know nothing about it, than one that you actually have some history of.
Thanks for the lovely comments Lesley  I would agree that it is difficult and these cats have given me sleepless nights, I didn't go to sleep until about 7 this morning worrying about them and then I had to go to work :tired: Most of the cats that come in, have at some stage been in contact with Cat flu and are more than likely to have the Corona Virus. Without testing all of them, I really wouldn't have a clue who has had what and being honest, how many people with just 2 cats can honestly say, their cats haven't been in contact with either? Both of these conditions are mainly brought out in stressful situations such as rehoming, going into a cattery etc. and I really haven't got the funding to test each and every one. The only times mine are tested for anything are if I suspect they are carrying something, ie if they are constantly snotty or whatever, and they are then also tested for FIV/FeLV, or if I get an older unneutered tom in, then he would also be tested. In the ideal world, there would be more homes than cats but sadly that isn't the case. Most cats do build up an immunity to the Flu Virus and Corona but chances are most would have had it anyway unless they have come from a family home where they have been indoor cats. Most rescue cats do not come from these sorts of environments, and I know my vet would be happier with me if I only took in nice healthy cats/kittens and turned down the snotty unhealthy types of cats but if I only did that, how can I be doing rescue? Whether these are from a breeder or off the street, I am not going to differentiate, in my eyes they all need help and as Lesley said, the strays etc we have no way of knowing of their history. These cats need to be sorted asap, and if Lesley does decide to take one on, she is aware of what it involves and will take whatever precautions are needed. When you take any cat on, vets and rescues usually advise keeping them separate for a couple of weeks in case of illness, what they don't say is test them for anything and everything. I would be interested to know if anyone has had their cats tested for the Corona virus before introducing them to their own or is it a test that most rescues test for? Regarding finding the ideal homes, yes Coco and Simba dropped lucky and with someone who not only adored the breed but had experience of dicky tums, I couldn't be happier for them but a lot of people also run a mile when they may have a problem. I have one I need to find a home for at the moment, she is absolutely beautiful but does suffer from IBS, she is from a very loving home but because of her problem and the fact they have kids coming over to stay, the cat sadly has to go :'( :'( I have got a week to find her a home, otherwise she is going back to her breeder :(
-
Whats IBS and what breed?
-
IBS - irritable bowel syndrome
-
I realized as soon as I pressed the button :-:
-
Yep strays are unknown quantities, but in mum cats case shes a known dealing.
If you have a cat that doesnt like other cats, it gets homed on its own.
If you have a cat with FIV it goes to a home alone or with other FIV cats.
So i also think that a cat shedding coronavirus should also go it alone.
Whether these are from a breeder or off the street, I am not going to differentiate, in my eyes they all need help and as Lesley said, the strays etc we have no way of knowing of their history
In no way did i mean you shouldnt help these cats but home them sensibley knowing their health conditions.
I remember reading a few days ago that you found out that pagan had also had contact with this mum cat.
-
We mixed an FIV feral with ours and all ours were fine, I would do it again as it gave Holly somewhere safe for the last 8 months of her life and although she hated humans she died loved and wanted and is missed for the dynamic she added to our mob.
Both Dawn and lesley do this to help and whilst in an ideal worls everything would be tested and the like its just not possible but they do help what ever comes their way find devoted families and in some cases just somewhere warm to have a final few days but they leave a gaping gap whatever way it is
I love all mine but would help with another FIV if we could as its a roll of the dice and they need lady luck to!
-
FIV is different though Liz, as it is a lot harder to transmit than FCOV.
-
FIV is different though Liz, as it is a lot harder to transmit than FCOV.
I take it yours are tested Des? With FCOV, you can't determine who is a shedder and who isn't. And out of interest, those that are commenting, have any of you had your cats tested for it??
-
In no way did i mean you shouldnt help these cats but home them sensibley knowing their health conditions.
If I wasn't going to home sensibly, do you think I would be wasting my time finding out as much history as I can about them and being honest with people about what I'm dealing with. I have got a foster home lined up for Vita, if I didn't care, I would have just taken her but as soon as I found out about the Corona Virus, I decided I was going to get her tested first. Anyone who takes on any of these cats, will be told about the Corona Virus, it's not something I'm going to pretend isn't there because I know it is. With these cats, sometimes I wish I hadn't got involved but god knows why I did, I have had numerous arguments with my vet about them and sleepless nights, at the end of the day, all I want to do is stop them from breeding and get them into family environments. If I had to have each and every one tested, sadly they will just have to stay where they are and just pray that the temptation to breed doesn't overcome common sense. If Lesley has one, that is one less to worry about and if Lesley's cats haven't already got Corona, it would be a damn miracle as it would be if all mine were clear, so where is the problem?
-
With FCOV, you can't determine who is a shedder and who isn't. And out of interest, those that are commenting, have any of you had your cats tested for it??
I hadnt until Gwynnie got ill and was tested. To be honest although I knew a bit about fcov I hadnt realised it was so profilic in the general cat population. It would be hard for any cat establishment, breeding or rescue, to ensure an entirely fcov free environment.

Hi all,
just thought we would drop in and let you know how we are today. ;D It has been almost a week of reduced steroids now and we still have good poo!! ;D. The plan is to reduce the steroids again and also finish the antibiotics. The antibiotics finish tomorrow....then the steroids will be reduced again on Thursday, so keep your paws crossed that all remains well. We have 2 happy puss cats and 2 extremely happy slaves ;D. Hope you have all had a good weekend.
Jackie, John Simba and Coco
xxxx ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
That's great news :Luv: Will be keeping fingers and toes crossed ;D
I'm so pleased these babes are with you guys, and its fabulous to hear how they are progressing
-
Hi Millys mum. We would just like to say, yes Simba anbd Coco were lucky because we were looking for siamese.....but there are a lot of siamese who find it difficult to find a new home because of their demanding and noisy nature. Not everyone likes them, they think they are evil/naughty/whatever. We have had a lot of years experience with siamese and with dicky tummies as well . So...we think we were all lucky to have found eachother really ;D ;D ;D ;D.
wish every cat could be matched with new owners so happily.
xx

Ahhh what wonderful news Jackie. It certainly sounds like
tubby Coco and Simba have turned the final corner and are well and truly on the road to complete recovery. It's been a long few months but your perseverance and persistence combined with lots of love and care have paid off and you now have two gorgeous, affectionate little troublemakers to keep you on your toes for a long time! :naughty: ;)
-
The news just gets better ;D
-
fantastic news Jackie - hope they continue to thrive

Cos most cats shirk it off and become immune a persistantly infectious cat is different.
I would move the earth for someone not to have to go through what i did with George.
Anyway i tried.
Im glad your steroid regime is going to plan Jackie ;D
-
So far so good, all paws crossed. They finished their antibiotics today and the steroids will be reduced again from Thurs....will keep all posted.
xxxx ;D
-
;D Hi there all,
well, so far so good, steroids reduced again and all ok so far....ooh I hope this is going to continue, I am so pleased for these 2. I phoned the vet today to make an appointment for Tuesday and even the young receptionist asked me how Simba and Coco were. aw bless. :Luv:
:Luv:
Running around up and down stairs right now this minute and both sound like they have got clogs on ha ha. John has almost finished the downstairs loo and so he said will put some pikkies on computer for me tomorrow, so I will be able to share them with you on Sunday hopefully. ;)
meanwhile, have a nice weekend all you lucky people that don't have to work Saturdays

-
Great news Jackie .... any more updates on whether Lady CoCo is in the family way?
-
This is sounding so good ;D
-
;D Hi all,
No more news as yet, she is still tubby and round  but that's it!. The Vets will have another "FEEL" on Tuesday, but to be honest I think she's just having a little phanton pregnancy aw bless her :shy: Think she's just a bit confused, put it this way....I hope it is just a phantom   but she is sure doing a good impression,  will let you know what they say on Tuesday. Obviously we are wanting to have her spayed and hopefully if the vet says she's well enough, we will be able to get something sorted out. There is jabs to be had as well, but all in good time. I just want them fit first, but they are desperate to go in the garden!! they try to escape everytime you go near a door, and coco is very good at standing on her back legs to reach the door handle :naughty:
-
I will get John to put the pikkies on the computer for me tomorrow so I will be able to show you her fat belly
-
Poor little Coco, it does sound like a phantom pregnancy bless her but if it is, she must be feeling a lot better in herself :Luv: I'm glad things are still going okay with them and reducing the steroids hasn't caused any problems, well done on a fab job  Don't forget to get John to send me some piccies so I can send some to Sean ;)
-
Be great to see some pictures ;D
-
Well I have seen all the pictures
Would you like to see them?

-
:thanks: ooh can't thank you enough Gill, what would we do without you. xx The red bed was one that we won on Cat Chat Christmas raffle ;D they love it. What about the fat belly then folks???ha ha  . We are now on a quarter of a steroid each per day, and have no adverse effects (thank god). Going to the Vets on Tuesday, so will let you all know what they say.
We are so very happy to be the proud Slaves of these 2. Just goes to show what a bit of patience, and a good Vet can achieve ha ha
thanks again for the pikkies Gill.
xx ;D
-
Fab piccies, every time I see these two it really warms my heart :Luv:
-
Hey, what cool pics! ;D They do look like nosey, willful and classy Siamese. ;D
Jackie, regarding Madam Coco, check her nipples. If they're very pink and prominent, then you've got a pregnancy, either phantom or real.
-
Jackie, regarding Madam Coco, check her nipples. If they're very pink and prominent, then you've got a pregnancy, either phantom or real.
She definitely won't be pregnant, if she is, she will be over 9 weeks now or the breeder was lying about having Simba done. If I remember, I will ask the vets tomorrow when he was neutered as I've got Vita in for spaying.
-
OMG :wow: :wow: :wow: How fantastic do those two look.
Jackie they are a credit to you and John, you have two fabulous cats. I love the photo of Simba lying on the reclining chair, now that is what I call spoilt and knowing you are in charge.
I am thrilled to bits that they are doing so well :yesss:
give them giant cuddles from me xxxxx
-
Oh Jackie, they are sooo scrumptious!!!! :Luv2: :Luv2:
-
 giant cuddles from all of you duly given  Dawn, there is no need to check Simba neutered...HE HAS DEFINATELY BEEN  nipples are pink but not dropped if you know what I mean. It MUST be a phantom, we have had them here for 8 weeks!! and they have never been out of the house (and no other cat been in either) ha ha  I'm going to ask the vet tomorrow to see about getting her booked in for spaying. bless :Luv: :Luv:
will keep you posted, and thanks for the lovely comments about them....of course we think they are the best thing since sliced bread...but then again we would
 :thanks: to you all
xxxx
-
Oh Jackie they look so happy and healthy .... You'd think they had lived with you for years not months from the way they have so obviously taken over the enitre house
-
;D
Hi folks,
been to the Vets today and they are thrilled to bits with the little ones. They haven't gained any more weight, or at least we don't think they have, neither of them would stand still enough to be weighed properly :naughty: :sneaky:. We have to reduce steroids again on Friday and just continue like this until hopefully we can get them off all together. I asked about having Coco spayed, and the vet agrees it does need to be done BUT not while she is still on steroids..... so we will have to see how the weaning off goes, if we can't get them off completely...then the vet will do it...but for now there is no rush and we just want to get everything settled down first. ;D Meanwhile, the phantom pregnancy seems to be subsiding   the boobies have gone down and she isn't as round as she was last week ha ha
Simba is looking good, and Coco is looking good and they are both happy bunnies and that's all that matters isn't it. ;D ;D They dont have to go back now for a month, we will obviously keep in touch via telephone and see how they are, but unless it is necessary we will not take them back until we get them off the steroids and they can have a monthly weigh in ha ha ;D f they will stand still and be good :P
-
Jackie thats great news
-
What can i say but.........Purrrrrrrrrrrrr ;D ;D
Such good news, Jackie
-
  thanks to you all for your continued support. Must say John and I are thrilled to bits with them and thank heavens they have pulled through and have obviously turned a HUGE corner. ;D
Very relieved household!!

-
This is just fabulous ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Jackie I am so happy for these two ;D ;D ;D. Nothing could of made me happier than the vet being wrong with his first diagnoises. :wow: :wow: Thank heaven all our prayers were answered.
They are two stunning babes, I am such a softy that I have watery eyes just thinknig about them.
Give them a snuggle from me & mine. xxxx

-
Hi everyone,
sorry not posted for a while, I was away on a course last week and John won't type!!
We reduced the babies steroids again at the beginning of last week....but had to put it back up because we were runny bums again....luckily only on the kitchen floor this time....we had noticed it getting a bit softer but thought we had to try and when we went on to every other day...thats when the runs came back :'(. Coco is now in full swing in season!! and Simba keeps trying to oblige...OMG I thought once he had been neutered he wasn't interested?? oh dear....so we are having fun in our house as you can imagine.......They seem to have developed a cough again this week too, so keeping a very beady eye on them and will take them back to the lady with needles if deemed necessary. I spoke to them yesterday when I picked up the food and they want us to go back next week....so will obviously keep you posted. We are beginning to think that we will never get them off medication....then what happens??
keep you all posted anyway
Jackie, John Simba and rampant Coco
-
AWww Jackie sorry to hear they have had a hiccup - but the main thing is they are doing well, one day they will be off the steriods complety.
hugs a plenty to those two and one for yourselves
NEED MORE PHOTOS :Luv: xxxxxx
-
Am glad Coco is in season, at least it means she isn't pregnant!! Simba will probably be showing interest due to being neutered so late. Hope you can get the meds sorted though.
-
Aw, sorry to hear they're a little of colour, hopefully a trip to the lady with needles won't be necessary until you need to go back next week
Hope the runny bums sort themselves out again soon, and glad that Coco is not pregnant, even if you do have a rampant Simba running around the place now :evillaugh:
-
sorry they aren't too good at the mo Jackie - hope they perk up soon - glad you're not going to be a grandma!
-
Glad to hear Coco's finally in season and hopefully you'll eventually get them off the steroids. I've had a few of mine that have still got the urge, Dylan and Sooty were both done at 6 months and Dylan used to take great delight in entertaining Sally, and Sooty still tries to get a grip of her when he's feeling amorous. I think you will find regardless of when they are done, some cats, as the same with dogs, the urge will still be there. Zak my shepherd cross again was done at 6 months, he still has his daily romp with Kara, I do think with him though he has excess hormone or something has been left behind, because a chemical castration stopped him in his tracks for a while ;)
-
Meant to ask Jackie, has Coco's tummy gone down now?
-
I wonder if it is worth you trying the slippery elm for the runny bums. It seems to have worked wonders for Tarka and because it is a herbal supplement it should not affect their medication.
-
Lesley , I am intrigued, what is the slippery elm?
Dawn....yes Coco has lost her tummy  and her boobies   and it is quite amusing to see rampant Simba the hot man!! I keep telling him to stop it and he looks very guilty ;D little :censored:
How long does the season go on for??
It seems strange to see her, as we have had female cats before but they have always been spayed....aw bless her I feel quite sorry for her....she is deperado!!!
-
How long does the season go on for??
If your lucky days if your unlucky they can have heat after heat and you'll end up
-
 ooh thank you for that Millys Mum, how kind.........
-
Hi Jackie
Slippery elm is my new wonder herbal supplement, together with Eagle Pack Holistic anchovy flavoured dry food. I discovered it when I was researching into IBD when we were considering taking Beanie on. Quite a few sites suggested it for cats with the runs and so I though I would try it on Tarka. It was like a miracle with him. I started with the slippery elm and it honestly worked within 12 hours. After spending his entire 7 month life with a constantly runny bum, he is now 98% of the time dry. I think the only time we have lapses is when he manages to get some food he should not have, or manages to hide the fact that he has not had his tablet.
I get mine from Petmeds.co.uk and if you quote promotion code "8lives" with them you can get 5% discount.
-
It seems strange to see her, as we have had female cats before but they have always been spayed....aw bless her I feel quite sorry for her....she is deperado!!!
Ooooer, Siamese are notoriously loud and raucous when calling... You have my sympathies Jackie, I'm sure that Coco is doing your head in... :evillaugh:
BTW, Toby sometimes gets amorous with Pearl - though they've both been sorted. :shify: She'll tolerate it up to a point, but then when she's fed up, will grab Toby in a headlock and chew his whiskers off!
-
Slippery elm is my new wonder herbal supplement,
Yes, I can vouch for SEB too, that, and a raw diet if your'e game for that! :evillaugh:
-
;D Hi all,
just to say we are doing fine and have firmed up a bit again  ;) you know what I mean .
Going to try to reduce again tomorrow, back down to quarter of a tablet a day for a week then try every other day again......keep fingers crossed.
keep you posted

Good luck ;D
-
good luck Jackie, all fingers and paws crossed here that it goes well.
xx
-
good luck Jackie!
-
;D Howdy all,
Simba and Coco doing great, just thought we would let you all know. Still on steroids, but a very very low dose and just taking it really slow, bouncing around the house like they have lived here forever, Coco had another season!!! poor little love  .
Just wanted to say hello to you all
xxxxx ;D
-

That's brilliant news!
-
Will Coco be able to be neutered soon ?
-
;D Hi,
no Coco won't be able to be spayed for a bit yet....we need to try to get her off the steroids before they will do it. They said that if it turns out that we can't get them off, then they will do it, but are very reluctant to spey her until she's off steroids. ;D she will be at a much greater risk of infection etc if they do it while on steroids....and she's been through enough already so we will just have to see how she goes. They are both very happy and very settled now though and it is lovely ;D. Fantastic to see them, doing what they want, when they want, and snuggling daddy and following me.....spoilt rotten.
-
have they considered putting her on the pill in the interim? Not sure if that would be contra-indicated with the steroids, but it would save her the stress of constant calling which may be counter-productive to curing her more 'basic' problems. Good to hear they are going well though, you must be so pleased!! :Luv:
-
Aww, poor Coco - do make sure you do regular breast examinations on her (just means rubbing your hands along them), as she will be at more risk of mammary cancer, and by picking up on it early, you really could save her life, so many cases dont get picked up until it is too late, as it is one of the cancers that spreads quite easily. Hope you can get her off the steroids soon.
-
 OMG..... :scared: I will make sure I examine her closely, thanks for that I didn;t know she is more at risk of mammary cancer!! whatever next!! and to answer your question Blackcat...nothing has been said yet about putting her on the pill, I suppose they are just tring to do a bit at a time (with them being poorly for such a long time) that is!
will keep you all posted anyway
they send you purrs and headbuts  and so do we
-
SAdly, yes, it is more common in unspayed cats who aren't allowed to have kittens. I wrote an article on it which is a sticky on here, the average age for it developing is 10, but best to do monthly checks.
-
As things are going here!!!!! it will probably be a twice/more daily checks   as it seems that Coco is rather partial to having tummy rubs anyway ;D
but thanks for that
xx
-
Aww, bless her.
-
Hi Jackie,
How are our 2 favourite little 'mese's. We must be due some new pics ;)
Hope you all had a lovely Easter.
-
 ;D Hi Sam,
had a lovely Easter thank you, hope you did too and hope you got lots of easter eggs..
Our beautiful meses are doing great.....John took them for a little check up last Thursday and everyone is soooo pleased with them. They have gained a little more weight each and are looking much much healthier...thank heavens!!
Chasing around their house!! doing what they want when they want to do it!! can't be bad eh? I'm coming back as a cat in my next life....but I want to live in a house like this one  .
Still on steroids, but it seems that at the moment we can't get them off....so be it....at least they have some quality of life now, and that is very important for them. Both spoilt rotten and fastly becoming Daddy cats ha ha which I am very pleased about because poor John was getting a bit upset....it took a while for them to sit on him for a fuss (he said it is because he was the one to put them in the basket and take them to the lady with the needles  )
will post you some more pikkies at the weekend when I have a little more time.
Thank you for asking
love to you and yours
from us and ours ;D ;D ;D ;D

;D Hi Folks,
To all of Simba and Coco's friends.....................................
Just to keep you posted.....they are doing fabby and happy and health issues under control nicely. Coco is going to be spayed next Tues :'( and of course we will worry about her....it's only natural.......we have reduced her steroids again this week in prep for the operation....she will also be put on antibiotics (before and after) starting Sunday, to try to be prepared kind of thing :( and they will leave her stitches in for two weeks rather than one and she will be closely monitored ;) and is in the best hands ;) sooooooooooo
then she can go out to play in the garden and so can Simba....They are so desperate to go and play out now (constantly sitting near the patio doors/dining room french windows) talking and chattering at the birdies!! but they have owned us now for 6 months (how time flies) and we have to pander to their every whim  or else we will be in trouble.
Sorry no photo's, we have got loads....but they are just the same as the other ones really.
will keep you posted....24th June is her operaton...so will let you know how she gets on.
Meanwhile, thank you to everyone who has PM'd us and have become our friends.
You are all super
xxxx
-
:censored: hell ... 6 months already! You're right time does fly doesn't it.
I'm so pleased Coco and Simba are continuing to do well and I'm sure CoCo will be fine next week.
It's lovely to hear from and please give your two babies a cuddle from me and my lot.
Sam, Foxy, Zephyr and Rossi xxxx
BTW ... have you voted in the catshow yet? http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php/topic,15536.0.html
-
Aww, glad she can finally be spayed, although I wonder why they are putting her on ab's? STitches are normally 10 days, so an extra 4 shouldnt be too hard, unless she has to wear a cone.
-
Great news Jackie... pleased to hear the duo are doing well. :)
Good luck for the spay! I'm sure that all will go well hun let us know how things pan out and look forward to more piccies when you can :)
-
Hi Jackie, I can't believe its 6 months already!!!!!
Glad they can have their ops now, and I'm sure everything will be just fine
Still need to see more pics lol, we need our fix ;D

Hi Jackie,
How's CoCo ... was it yesterday that she went for her spay? Hope it all went well and Madam is doing OK.
-
:thanks: for asking Sam, yes it was Tues she went in and she's absolutely fine. She's got 3 little stitches and is taking her antibiotics like a good girl ;D. Stitches come out in 10 days time.
Simba is a bit sicky today though, I think it is the upset with Coco, because he was clucking around like a mother hen when she came back from the vets. (they obviously did not enjoy being separated!!) aw bless. So am keeping a beedy eye on them both  .
Thanks for asking, will keep you posted.

Coco is absolutely great, no problems at all thank heavens........Had to take Simba to the Vets on Thurs night....not a well boy at all...we were really worried about him, he was very sick through the night and wouldn't even come out of his doughnut bed on Thurs morning...no breakfast...(no steroids)! no drinks, no toilet, no NOTHING!!!!!we took him to vets and she gave him his steroid by injection and said she wanted to see him again this morning (because if he hadn't had anything to drink we would have to put him on a drip) poor lad looked awful.....so brought him home and he went straight back to the donut again.....5am today he was jumping around like a good un ;D little monkey....scaring us like that :naughty: :naughty: had his brekky, went to the toilet and I caught him sniggering at us behind our backs!!!  so he hasn't been back to the vets today (not needed, Thank heavens)....poor John I feel sorry for....Coco spayed Tuesday....Me in hospital for operation on Weds.....Simba at vets Thurs...whatever next

Simba and Coco are doing great too, bouncing around as usual, don't cats seem to heal quickly??....if it wasn't for the missing fur on her side, the way she's acting you would never think she'd had anything done.....aw she's a good girl (proud miowmy and daddy)
