Title: Lucas - Rest easy sweetheart
Post by: Tan on November 22, 2007, 11:17:44 AM
For DD & Dawn.

Rest easy Darlin Lucas

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

The bridge babes looked around their garden and found an empty place,
Then they looked down upon this earth and saw your loving face,
they put their paws around you and lifted you to rest,
their garden must be beautiful;  because they always takes the best.

They knew that you were suffering;
they knew you were in pain,
And knew that you would never get well on earth again,
they saw your path was difficult;  and closed your tired eyes.
Then whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.

When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
we would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories;  your love will be our guide.
You live on through your family,  you're always by our side.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you the day the Bridge called you home.

RIP Lucas, I think you've left a pawprint in each and every one of our collective hearts.

Play hard on the Bridge sweetheart, and send Dawn a rainbow when you've learned how xxxx

RIP, Lucas.

You deserved so much better than the start you had in life and finally got what you deserved with your foster mum and dad.

Send them a sign to let them know you arrived safely - they'll worry otherwise.

:RIP:

Oh no... our sweet darling Lucas.. :'( I was wishing my heart out for the best for this honey, because he deserved it... :'(  :'( he always tugged at my heart every time I saw his pic, in a way like Oliver did when I first found him on the internet notice, and I am sure he did it to plenty of others here

But at least he is in a better place, his suffering ended for good.  Have tons of fun with all the other Bridge babies Lucas, you will be so heartily welcomed I am sure!
You are now a sweet angel in the heart of many of us.  RIP darling, we will remember you.

I haven't followed his story but I'm still very sorry to hear of his demise. If anyone can point me to some links on Purrs, I would be grateful as there is obviously a  story to be told

Lovely words from Tan. One of my favourite poems.

Pete, Lucas was a stray I captured a couple of months ago.  He was approx 10 years old and from what I could make out from neighbours, he'd been a stray for years.  He was very skinny and had a few scars on him so I had him neutered and blood tested and sadly he came back as FIV.  He was the most gorgeous cat anyone could ever meet, he could easily wrap anyone round his little paws  :Luv2:  :Luv2:  Dawn and Phil wanted to help out a rescue and they very kindly offered to foster Lucas for me.  He was doing really well, loved his new mummy and daddy and got lots of love and cuddles and we were going to try and find him a forever home, if Dawn would have parted with him that is.  Yesterday, he wasn't feeling too good and lost the use of his back end, he was very wobbly and Dawn phoned me up.  I spoke to Sean and made my way to Manchester, and after seeing Lucas, phoned Sean back and explained his condition.  He agreed with me to get him back to Wales and for me to take him in.  Sadly I got him in the vets and he was found to be full of tumours  :'(  :'(  Basically his body was overrun with them and they were growing at a rapid rate, he had 2 checkups when he was first caught and there was none apparent at that time.  Whatever the cancer was, it was very aggressive but he didn't suffer and he was loved til the end.

RIP poor Lucas.  :'(

He probably knew more love in his last few months than the rest of his life and was spared any suffering  :Luv2:

So sorry to hear this sad news  :'(

I'm glad he found some love and people who cared for him at he end of his life and he did not die alone, but surrounded by people who cared for him.

He is free from any pain and harm the world can cause him, free to play at the bridge untill his Mummy and Daddy can come and get him.

I had followed his story and grew to love this spirited little boy.

Rest in Peace Lucas and God Bless.

Remember Our Love

I was chosen that day
I'm learning to fly
the world took me away,
but please don't you cry

And I chose you today
to try and be strong
so please don't you cry
and don't say that I'm gone

When you're feeling alone
just remember our love,
I'm up near the stars
looking down from above.

Remember our love
In a moment you'll see
that I'm still here beside you
when you're thinking of me.

Hi DiddyDawn,

Thank you so much for telling that story. Little guys like that provide more love than anyone can ever give in return; I'm sure that you know what I mean. Margaret and I can never fully repay our guys.

We will never know some of the traumatic lives that some cats have been subjected to and we can only provide care, warmth, love and understanding of their needs and reactions. If some of them could tell their life stories it would shock many of us, tug at our heartstrings further but strengthen the resolve even more.

When I have a few moments I will relay a story on Purrs which will shock some on here unite and echo, only too sadly, the disposable society mentality who I loathe with a passion. It is life through the eyes of a dog which a few may have seen. It is equally true of cats. I believe that it originated in the USA.  The lesson is there however owners want to dress it up to hide their shame.

Anyway, my apoilogies for going off tack. This thread is about Lucas.

One last thing, which I think you know goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. Thank you, Dawn & Phil for caring enough and bringing some love and comfort into the life of what was so obviosly a beautiful little guy.

What lovely poems, and it is so wonderful that he has made Dawn and Phil want to help more, not everyone would want to continue after such a sad end to a first foster. He will certainly be proud of you. RIP little one.

I know the tale you mean Pete, it has me in tears. I think I posted it on CC but not here.

I still really feel sad about Lucas but talking to Pav earlier, it makes you think that these things do happen for a reason.  I don't normally test the cats that I trap unless obviously there are concerns about their health.  With Lucas, I'm not even sure why I had him tested, possibly with him being an older cat, and the fact I knew he'd come to blows with one of the local cats  :Dont know:  It was just one of those things where you have an inkling that it had to be done.  Normally, they are neutered and released but in Lucas's case, it just didn't happen, maybe he was meant to come into our lives to help Erick and Fiz  :)  But whatever the reason, these babes have now got the best chance they're going to get and I know Lucas will be chuffed to bits that his room is being put to good use and helping another couple of special babes

It was such a good thing you did test him Dawn, at least this way he got love and attention, and more importantly, he was allowed to go peacefully and painlessly. Plus, others have also benefited from it.
